Blackwater

I read Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army by Jeremy Scahill in one day. The book reveals actions taken by this paramilitary group in the United States and in many other countries. Each page held my total interest. I highly recommend it.

Interesting choice as a reader’s pick - reader beware. Despite more than a dozen mentions in his book (and a whole section in his new paperback version), and frequent mention in his articles and media appearances, ‘award winning’ author Jeremy Scahill has never bothered to interview me or anyone at IPOA. On the contrary, we made numerous efforts to meet and talk with him over the past 18 months, all have been rebuffed or ignored. Even if he fundamentally disagrees with the use of the private sector in support of stability and peace operations, considering the focus of his book, wouldn’t a chat with the primary industry trade association have made at least a wee bit of sense? Take his book with a grain of salt . . .
