The Age of American Unreason

I’m reading The Age of American Unreason by Susan Jacoby at the recommendation of a librarian with whom I discussed the functional illiteracy of a high percentage of our county, state, and country. I have been a literacy volunteer for almost 30 years, and I feel that the problem is worse now than when I started. Many do not believe it exists in this land of  vaunted opportunity and public education.
