Gary Condit said to be considering a book

By Marjorie Kehe | 02.21.09

Even as police prepare to seek a warrant for the arrest of a convicted felon in the 2001 murder case of Washington intern Chandra Levy, former California Congressman Gary Condit is reported to be interested in writing a book.

Levy was working as an intern at the Bureau of Prisons when she became romantically involved with Condit, who was the congressman from her home district in California. Condit was never named a suspect in the case but he was aggressively pursued by the press for some time after. When he lost his bid for reelection, many blamed it on the scandal.

Today he told ABC affiliate WJLA, “I had always hoped to have my opportunity to tell this side of the story, but too many were not prepared to listen. Now I plan to do so, but I will have no further comments on this story at this time.”

So why are the police targeting somebody they have already cleared?

Good for Condit. He may have done the wrong thing personally by engaging in an affair with an intern, but the media grilled him and condemned him as a killer — simply because they could. I hope he responds to some of them.

Don’t bother Conduit. Nobody cares!

4. Larry Wolford | 02.21.09

Only in America could a man write a book about using his office of Public trust and Personal power to brag(ahem ,explain) about Banging a niave young Intern. Kind of reminds me of the Banks being rewarded with Bailout money for their bad behavior, at the tax payers expense. My suggestion: Have Condit run naked down main street with the Levi family watind at the end with Willow switches. Does this image make sense? How/when did we become so so forgiving of the unrepentant?

Now what on earth would gary condit have to say that would be of any interest to anyone? You got to be kidding! Mr. condit should squirm back under the rock he came from. He is only one good example of many as to pervasive and pathetic sickness that pervades DC. He deserved what ever he got.

Outrageous!!!!!

Guess it’s too much to hope for that no publisher would be interested in paying this guy for anything. If they do, I hope they eat their investment and sell zero books.

He has no shame. Have the decency to go away……….

Maybe after all this time, Gary has the right to tell his story in a book. After all, the world thought he had killed Chandra. His life and career was over as he knew it. The affair was their business, and not the worlds. I say good luck to Gary.

Condit is more pathetic then I gave him credit for.
It’s been great not having to see or listen to him or his family for awhile now.
Please, go crawl under a rock and spare us all.
Tell me his wife dumped him please?
Chandra’s family doesn’t need your side of anything, now or ever.
You’re a pathetic excuse for a man.

so does this mean the jerks in washington are going to say sorry ( not likely)i never thught you did it anyway.

Hopefully he won’t make money from this “book.” There are certainly so many unanswered questions and many, many issues that need “clarifying” from Gary Conduit. Remember, for many of us, lying is not condoned. And, again, for many of us, his initial denial of the affair and the subsequent hindering of any investigation work, is a shame that he and his family should never live down.

As far as I know his family supports him–most of us in the real world not condone infedelity–shame on his wife and kids for accepting this.

Nailing a poor immigrant sounds a little convenient. I’m interested to see the evidence.

12. cjjoy | 02.22.09

So when all is said and done Condit is completely innocent of the murder , no more suspicions hanging over his head. Of course his career is finished but that now will be attributed to the price paid for his adultery . Do the Levy’s owe him anything ?

13. depper | 02.22.09

He may want to tell what he knows and how it felt (but perhaps out of respect for the deceased and her family plus his own family, he may omit some details if non pertinent , I hope) look if he makes money it will only be because readers will pay for it. He should have a chance to speak without fearing police will run in cuff him. If he does not make any money, so be it. He may very well have cared for her a lot but how could he ever ever admit that or even allow himself to admit it. then again he probably is just a ***** advantage taking kind of guy but I bet , not so anymore. He really learned a lesson the hard way - so did Chandra , unfortunately . Never jog alone in an isolated area especially when you are an attractive young girl .

I have to wonder why after all this time they decide to arrest this guy who, by the way, far from being just a “poor immigrant”, is guilty of assaulting two women in Rock Creek Park, for which he is now actually already in prison. Still, he earlier passed a lie-detector test over the Levy case. I never believed Condit was guilty either, but somebody sure is, and the timing of this impending arrest looks strange. Somebody in the Bureau of Prisons is breathing a big sigh of relief, and who knows, maybe Condit’s book might well shed some light on some of Chandra’s other associations.

15. Rick A Hyatt | 02.22.09

They’re saying they’re about to arrest Chandra’s murderer, but they’re NOT saying it’s NOT the Gary Condits. Go to http://picasaweb.google.com/RickAHyatt/GaryConditSLongListOfVictimsAndIVeKnownManyOfThem# to see why I am able to say that. He just is trying to make out that he’s been successful, once again, in doing what he always does, that is to say, utilize government data bases (His high-level police and political connections and protection) to find the perfect patsy to frame for the event, in advance, like the Salvadoran guy.

16. KAY | 02.22.09

My favorite pet theory:
I always figured it was a murder for hire - to keep Chaundra from blabbing, which backfired because she had already blabbed about the affair to her parents - so when she disappeared the finger went right to Condit. Nothing I’ve seen of his character to rule it out.

17. Shane Jones | 02.22.09

Everyone saying “There isn’t any interest/ No one cares..”

Sure, and you cared so little about it that you neither clicked on the article to read it, nor wrote out a reponse.

It will be a best seller.

18. Patsy | 02.23.09

The Washington PD botched the case big time. That’s why it took so long to get enough evidence to charge the guy. He did not pass the polygraph test years ago. There was a language barrier and the test was inconclusive.

19. Rod Fry | 02.23.09

Make sure nobody mentions the fact that Condit who was having an affair is a DEMOCRAT .

20. Billy | 02.23.09

This is soo interesting, how people who have written here have invested so much time listening and discussing the Condit/Levy story proporting his guilt that they can’t accept that it might not have been true.. It’s another case like poor Richard Jewel who most people arn’t willing to believe was inocent either. Human nature is to find a reason to justify our position even in the face of evidence to the contrary because we don’t like to be thought of as wrong.
Also interesting is the reluctance of most blogers to accept that the guy in prison might be guilty …notice how everybody soft peddles him or just doesn’t mention him at all? Again, nobody wants to bring him up and be wrong. Facts:
1) Police are going to arrest the prisoner, they must believe they have the right man. We believed the police when they questioned Condit why arn’t we believing them now?
2) Writers suggest Condit didn’t provide information about Levy’s dissappearance, what information? he didn’t do it…if they had grabbed some poor schlep walking down the street and demanded info from him we wouldn’t have demanded he tell us about something he knew nothing of but we want poor schlep Condit to do it.., that’s nuts.
3) So he had an affair…and we want to send him to prison for that?
