A sneak preview of “Going Rogue”

By Marjorie Kehe | 11.12.09

Can’t wait till Nov. 17 to find out what Sarah Palin is going to include in her memoir “Going Rogue”? Time magazine’s Mark Halperin can offer you a few tantalizing hints, such as the fact that Palin does some serious score-settling with the McCain campaign and that (despite the presence of a collaborator) the book really sounds like Palin (meaning that it has “a warm and personal tone.”)More...

Early copies of the book (which will be officially released on the 17th) are already being shipped and Halperin says sources of his have either seen it or been briefed on its contents. Writing on Time magazine’s website, Halperin also says that the book includes five long chapters, heartily trounces the national media, and emphasizes the importance of faith in Palin’s life.

What it does not do, says Halperin, is offer “hefty policy prescriptions” or include an index (unusual for a political book – in Washington the real-life characters included in such books appreciate the ability to quickly check the back to find out where they’re mentioned).

Palin’s book tour (which she will make by bus, accompanied by members of her family), kicks off on Nov. 18 in Grand Rapid. But Halperin, who saw her return to public speaking on Nov. 6 outside Milwaukee, say that two things are already clear: “Palin is now a thoroughly professional rogue — and she is going to sell a ton of books.”

Despite occasional instances of misspeaking, Halperin says that Palin was easily able to energize her audience with lines like: “Don’t let anyone ever tell you to sit down and shut up.”

But is she acting like a candidate? Halperin says no. “For now,” he writes, “she’s all about polishing her brand for its purchasing — not its political — power.”

So, in the end is the book just about making money or part of a set up for another political run? I am going to guess setup for another political run considering the title - “Going Rogue”. Considering how painstaking they were to make her mainstream during the run and considering she lost to a guy considered more ‘Rogue’ seems they are looking to widen her appeal.

2. Robert | 11.12.09

The mesmerized idiots projecting the “wonder woman” complex onto Palin will buy this useless book in droves. The media created Sarah Palin despite her attempts to portray herself as a victim of the national media. When interviewed she blew it..plain and simple. She displayed gross incompetence and a complete lack of knowledge of the issues. Furthermore, she quit her only viable political office after less than 2 years as governor of Alaska. Why is this woman still in the news? Why? because she sells newspapers. Her inflammatory rhetoric and fundamentalist insanity scare the pants off democrats and liberals and moderate republicans alike. Yet not to worry as Palin will never step foot in the White House. Her “huge following” is perhaps 1-2 million people. Big deal. Her following are the same shallow consumers of Fox “news”. The people that do support her are either too stupid to know better (Carrie Prejean) or blinded by their obsessive extreme right wind conservatism and fundamentalist religious views. Sooner or later…We the People will make Sarah go away…just like we made Lou Dobbs go away when he got too inflammatory and began lying about The President’s American birth and citizenry and other nonsensical garbage.

3. Smerritt | 11.12.09

Only in America can a moron receive so much attention and wealth. Indeed, one might realize the true genius in her motives, after all, they’re the same as FoxOpinion: fabricate and shock as loudly and obnoxiously as possible, while at the same time accusing the media as an enemy who pays too close attention to her many, many misleading intentions. The denial of attention draws even more (exponential) attention from every angle, such to the point that the moron can toss out a book hastily written by someone else in her name and retain the absolute knowledge that, without question, people will buy it, obsess over it, and make her a very rich moron indeed. Ingenious.

4. Rich | 11.12.09

Wait a minute! Prior to the end of August 2008 no one outside of Alaska had ever heard of Sarh Palin and now she has a memoir? Memoir of what; the past year? Thats more of a journal if you ask me.

Spencer and Heidi is to reality TV what Sarah Palin is to politics.

5. Jon Dipenno | 11.12.09

So she’s an author. Big deal. Why do so many people crave the words of someone so cynical towards the hand that feeds her as Palin? And how so many reasonable people continue to select personality over ability as the criteria for leadership selection remain a mystery of the human condition.

6. Robert Otis | 11.12.09

Sarah Palin, like the far right currently co-opting the Republican party — comes across to reasonable people as shallow, demagogic, toxic, greedy, calculating… She has helped lowered the collective discourse to the level of personal, ad hominem, so-called “good Christian people vs. the rest of us”.

Then she and her ilk complain when the media follows the same path. Fox news is the best example of this kind of toxic discourse… but they’re just biased against everyone who thinks differently from Hannity, Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, Bachmann et al.

(By the way the rest of us also happen in many cases to be Christian, but just not morally bankrupt far-right ideologues at the same time)

7. Lorraine | 11.12.09

She is laughable, in my book. I wish she could get her facts correct.

8. Paul Olson | 11.12.09

So the book does not include an index? Not surprising. How could you prepare an index of the swirling cacophony that is the mind of Sarah Palin?

9. Alaskan Cop | 11.12.09

LOL…look at you all…scared little left wing liberal sheep……got news for you….say buh-bye to the “messiah” in 2012 and hello to the former beauty queen from Wasilla. Hope equaled nope!

10. Tonka | 11.12.09

If this person is a christian shame on her.

11. Mary - MI | 11.12.09

Excuse me, but wasn’t Sarah Palin the Governor of Alaska who managed to bring alot of big spenders to their knee’s, which helped the Alaskan economy? She more than proved herself well capable in that position.

I very much support her Limited (Republic) government ideology, which happens to be exactly what our Founding Fathers’ bestowed on us. Anyone who will help undo the “Nanny State” I am for.

So all you fascist/socialist can take a hike, because anything that Sarah Palin endeavors to do there are many of us who will lend her our support.

12. Vickie | 11.12.09

Soooo, has this woman suddenly grown an intellect and has something interesting to say?

13. Patrick | 11.12.09

That’s great. “Don’t let anyone ever tell you to sit down and shut up.”

How about ‘Don’t force your allies to tell you to sit down and shut up when you make fools of both them and yourself. Be a better, more competent politician.’

I’ll cheer for that.

14. Dr. G | 11.12.09

I am totally unimpressed with those here who can only argue by insulting others. It only yells, “No substance!”
Palin is a successful Governor, prominent political figure, and (soon to be) successful author. Whether you like her or not, that is what she is and it takes alot of brains and talent to achieve these goals.
Consider this, if you operate your personal budget as a liberal you will go bankrupt; if you operate as a fiscal conservative you will be self-supporting. At the very least, fiscal conservatism is the only common sense route for government economics. Social issues can be solved through diplomacy and compromise.

15. Karl | 11.12.09

She’s not notable…………..oops!

16. max | 11.12.09

Save yourself some time and read the definition of rogue in the dictionary. Enough said/read.

17. George | 11.12.09

Like the other commentators I also cannot understand why she is in the spotlight now..Her only purpose is to make money and from what I saw during the campaign she is definitely not qualified to give guidance to anyone. Hopefully everyone will see through the fluff and NOT buy any books.

18. Reasonable | 11.12.09

All of you commentators must enjoy your intellectual superiority. What will we do unless you tell us what medical care to receive, how to spend… wait, you all would like to spend our money, how to raise our children, etc. At least her her is Mao Tse-tung. President Obama continues to plug his literary adventures. Give me a break.

I didn’t realize that disagreeing with your ideology makes me a backwards, greedy, shallow and demagogic.

I guess I’d better go watch Fox news now. Wait! That news network isn’t approved by big brother……

19. Norm | 11.12.09

The best thing that ever happened to the Democratic party short and long term is Sarah Palin and her “friends” at Fox who are hijacking the Republican Party — and probably casting it off to oblivion. They’ll have their “brand” and 10% of the people voting for them. She really is a joke being played on all of us. And please stop with the argument that people like ME dislike her because she is a woman, or a down-home mom, or a religious zealot — I dislike her because she is incompetent and totally not capable of being the leader of the free world (I almost choke just saying that). And, my opinion is she is really a fraud but about to cash in on what the media has made her >>> that same media she despises.

20. Sean Powell | 11.12.09

As an Alaskan, I just wish she would go away. She has made us all sound like fringe lunatics! There’s a reason she doesn’t talk about policy: she doesn’t KNOW ANYTHING about it. And no, I’m not questioning her convictions; she’s entitled to her opinions, I just wish she would stop weighing in on things she knows NOTHING ABOUT, like health care. I also wish the media would stop giving her a stage (runway?) to parade around on. Perhaps, once the excitement from Going Vogue… uh, Rogue dies down, everyone will just ignore her. And then Publisher’s Clearinghouse will call… and my Lotto ticket will win…

21. Jeff Griffith | 11.12.09

The intolerance expressed in the postings on this page regarding someone with a different point of view frightens me. As for profiting from writing a book - Isn’t that the whole reason all books are published?

22. Ralph | 11.12.09

How can you be a successful Governor if you can’t even finish out your term?

23. William Post | 11.12.09

I can think of noone in recent history who frightened the American left as much as Palin did & does. The myth persists that she was McCain’s undoing when in fact her addition to the ticket kept the McCain campaign alive.
I continue to marvel at the left’s attempts to marginalize Palin & other conservatives with the absolute certenty that only stupidity keeps some people from being leftists. I’m reminded of Winston Churchill’s well known quote: “If you’re not a liberal at 20 you don’t havea heart. If you’re not a conservative at 40 you don’t have a brain.”

24. guitar414 | 11.12.09

This is one book I will NEVER buy!!! The woman is a loon!!!

Peace!

25. S Dakota | 11.12.09

I’m sure her memoir will be better then the Balloon Boy’s when it come out.

26. DL13 | 11.12.09

Since she has been demonized by her political opponents this is at least her opportunity for her to have her say. Much of what the Democrat leaning mainstream media has said about her has been fabricated for the political gain of the Democrats, who fear her. I wish her well.

27. Jeff | 11.12.09

I predict the book will sell well to Palin’s (not so bright) conservative followers for a few weeks, and then we’ll be seeing mountains of them piling up Dollar Stores all across the country.

Save your money if you’re just curious and want to read it for laughs - Pick it up for a buck in a couple of months!

28. Steve | 11.12.09

Palin attracts such interest because she is authentic and says what she really believes based on values and a belief in individual rights. Our country is slowly comprehending that Obama believes in himself and thinks he needs to decide for everyone because he is above us. Unfortunately we now must suffer as he shows that he does not have the skill to manage a flower shop let alone a country. He portayed himself as something different in order to be elected. Palin is authentic and no matter what her flaws that is why people are interested.

29. David | 11.12.09

All of these early responses are obviously part of the FAR left mentality, and can’t get through thier heads that you do not have to fit the media expectations of a Woman politician, to be a Free thinking, Christain,
Family oriented, and Action focused leader. So just relax, sit back and watch the fire owrks. Congratulations to Palin to taking all of you on.

30. Ann | 11.12.09

Prejean gives me a hindsight on who the real Palin is…God is invisible, so as some wrong deeds are out of sight, until proven by a photo or video… The real Palin is not in the book….

31. Ding Dong | 11.12.09

Exactly what about Sarah Palin is “rogue”? ..in all aspects of policy she’s as conservative as they get!

32. paul | 11.12.09

why are you people so afraid oh her? could it be she is talking common sense and is a genuine person unlike someone who currently lives at 1600 pennsylvania ave?

33. Mr J | 11.12.09

Who is this book about?!

34. Ricky Oh | 11.12.09

Finally, George W. has a book for his new library!
The first (and last) with a hard cover.

35. Jack | 11.12.09

Sarah Palin will become a brand, much like Ann Coulter, Dr. Laura..etc. Carrie Prejean is hoping to follow in Sarah’s footsteps. They represent the money that is the far right wing of the Republican party, much as the left wing of the Democratic Party has its celebrities that its uses. The Republicans realized that having old white men as the face of the party wasn’t helping it expand or pick up mindshare. Putting young(er) women out there expressing the same ideas allows the party to attempt to expand in the female gender demographic. It may even be enough to pick up some election wins.
I think Sarah’s done with being a poltician but she’s realized she can make quite alot of $$$$ by being a politico. It’s probably alot more fun and family life friendly too. She doesn’t have to worry about getting that 3am phone call! Now she’s the ‘Rachel Ray’ of the Republican Party.

Perhaps we can look forward to a next book that offers her political insight mixed with recipes for cooking moose roasts, quick and easy tips for field dressing your aerial gunned wolf or common household items you can use for cleaning your snowmachine.

36. Selwyn D,Goodwin | 11.12.09

I refer to Robert’s letter. People are not stupid or blinded by their religious beliefs any more than he or I are. We all think we are right because that’s the way we’re made. We can come with all the logic we want, even scientifically proved, and even accepted by people with whom we disagree, but logic vanishes in the bright light of belief. The religious right is as sure that they are as correct as we of the religious wrong are. It’s sad, I think, and leads to the problems we have, but that’s the way it is. It leads also to might taking charge, leading all countries to wars with the pomp pagentry power patriotism and persecution, things that I, and I assume Robert and many others, would like to avoid, but we have to live with it and die knowing it. Flaubert had it right: “We malign our own times. People were always like this.”

37. Ricky Oh | 11.12.09

Dr. G, how can you say she was a ’successful governor’? “She quit half way through her term!”
Successful author? She had a ghost writer for cripes sake. “She didn’t write the book!!!”
Are you on drugs?

38. Mike Mulligan | 11.12.09

Tina Faye and Saturday Night Live are in business again. It’s been a quiet six or so months but the fun is on again. For all of you dreaming Palin fans; you need to find another hero. I don’t think Sarah Palin will ever get a shot in politics now that we know her well.

39. John | 11.12.09

Alaskan Cop: Thanks for staying relevant. We “scared little left wing liberal sheep” didn’t like Palin in 2008 when she had job, but she quit that and now she’s promoting her book and herself. Such an inspiration to us all.

Mary- MI- What does fascist/socialist mean? Fascists think that those with the most resources should thrive independently of the welfare of the country, while Socialists think that resources should be distributed fairly… both far left and far right. I’m glad Palin supporters understand the subtleties of politics.

40. nicholas mcgill | 11.12.09

No one though the Anti-Christ would be a woman! lol. Seriously though, more pap for the masses, while the fabric of the real world continues to crumble. Real solutions for real problems will have to be based on the reality of an ecologically damaged world sustaining ever more humanity while heartless corporate capitalism continues eating it way across and through every ecosystem on earth. Since politicians can’t win votes on this platform, we are in for a few hard decades, at least.

41. Typical GOP Wingnut | 11.12.09

I can’t wait for the book to come out. I have a new box of crayolas to color it with

42. John | 11.12.09

Christopher Rose said:

> So basically this article is a summary of an article someone else wrote for Time
> so why should we waste time reading your summary?

Isn’t that what all blog posts pretty much are?

43. A Bookworm | 11.12.09

I want to know if I can quit reading her book half way and then get a refund.

44. pat | 11.12.09

You better watch out the right wing of America is feed up with the small minority left running this country into the ground. Higher Taxes , High unemployment then anything seen for the last 30 years.

The majority has been silent long enough. I lived through Jimmy Carter, gas lines, and 21% interest rate and we made a change. We are awaken once again! The conservative movement is BACK!

45. Hither | 11.12.09

Do you think Sarah ever sat down and read her own book? I don’t.

46. Keith | 11.12.09

Wasn’t her husband, just a couple years ago, an active member of a political party that sought the secession of their state from the union?
Her family and the “pals” she runs with don’t even want to be a part of the US. GO REPUBLICANS!!

47. CPH | 11.12.09

I bet no one commenting including myself really know her and is basing their perception on mass media sound bites and biased agendas of campaign rhetoric or your own political preferences. If you guys are so smart get involved and help fix the country and please don’t expect to do it by printing more money and looking to the other guy to pay for it….people need to be empowered not entitled.

48. Mr. Brady D. Jackson, III | 11.12.09

My only question is why would she title her book “going rogue”??
The word “Rogue” according to Webster’s New Dictionary,is described as:dishonest or mischievous person. And from Dictionary.Com..dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel ..a tramp or vagabond, to cheat, to uproot or destroy, having an abnormally savage or unpredictable disposition. Synonyms:villain, trickster, swindler, cheat, mountebank, and quack. I think that maybe, “Going Independent” or “Going Alone” might have been more appropiate.

49. Incredulous | 11.12.09

Wow, Dr G - interesting point. “Successful governor”. Does that not mean actually staying in office and completing your term of office rather than saying that it is far better effecting change outside of the system??? You guys certainly have a lot of faith in someone who finds it so difficult to finish the job she was elected to do. I have tried to find other governors that have just quit in the past few years and would like a list of those if anyone could enlighten me.

As for the prominent political figure - well, yes that stands to reason. She is as prominent as Michelle Bachman who still makes ridiculously judgemental statements about those who do not believe as she does and finds half of the American population offensive and worthy of investigation for not being “real” and “patriotic” enough. In fact they are both equally toxic, except now Sarah chooses to do so where the media is banned - the same media that created her!

Then, the successful writer - good for her if she does this and if the book is well written I congratulate her. I have respect for someone who can write a good book and even though I am very obviously not conservative, I might take a stab at reading this book and forming my own opinion of her prowess as an author. I do have to add though that many successful authors cannot always be accused of being literary giants either … I wonder how well this book would have been written if someone had not actually tried to correct some of the ummm more creative ways she has of expressing herself like writing very very long sentences that in the end do not make a whole lot of sense as they start off with one idea and then diverge in to several other ideas etc - see something like this sentence in fact!

I have considered your ideas on budgeting and yes, of course, being fiscally conservative is probably much better than just spending money based on morally justifiable causes such as health care reform right now. Yes, there is a huge deficit that certainly will cause problems for our children and grandchildren, but how much of the hidden costs of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have been considered by conservatives when they compare these costs.

I am a legal resident of this country and it amazes me that so many are so deeply divided about something as simple as taking care of your own …

Sarah probably has a lot to say about that seeing that she is such a model citizen in every way that everything she does could be forgiven or distorted (both ways - liberal and conservative).

50. Martinator | 11.12.09

@Dr. G: ” if you operate as a fiscal conservative you will be self-supporting”

So… where were the fiscal conservatives during 2000-2008? Spending shot up, the “Pay-Go” rule was allowed to expire (BTW: Best idea George Sr. had…), the largest social welfare program (to date) was implemented (That Medicare Prescription program that just added to future debt,…)

Where were you guys? What were you doing?

The “fiscal conservatives” were the only thing that I, as a left leaning independent voter, could admire about the GOP.

What happened?

Seriously?

51. David Abrams | 11.12.09

Sarah Palin I am not sure why she is such a big topic for discussion. She was an unknown governor of one of the smallest states (in terms of population and infrastructure) in the country. Not only was she an unknown governor she resigned the post before the end of the term. Orange County, Florida has more schools, roads, and population than Alaska. Mrs. Palin has also proven her limited intellect to the majority of us. Mrs. Palin is many things and currently a pop star who in not only incapable of holding national political office but is alos unelectable to national political office. Sarah like Rush has a very limited unelectable following. As long as people show up at public appearances for Mrs Palin she will continue to be a rock star. I think this is all very short lived popularity. The bottom line is she is just not very smart. We just had a not very smart President in Mr. Bush and look where that got us. The largest recession since the great depression, and 2 wars that we have no business in. We don’t need and won’t vote for another “good ole boy (girl)”.

52. Rich | 11.12.09

It is easy to criticize her.

True she is not the almighty, all powerful all self-righteous Obama. He certainly hasn’t lied, avoided the truth, speculated, misspoke, changed his mind or said stupid things. …wait that applies to all of his voters too.
Why do you ignore Obama’s daily, blatant incompetence and lies? Is it so you can pick on someone who you is unpolished and stumbles on some questions?

I regret(for our country) that many conservatives and non-Obama fan club members are turning out to be right

53. Jay | 11.12.09

I hate to break it to ya……but Sarah Palin is no dummy…..and is JUST AS EQUIPPED TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT AS THE CURRENT OCCUPANT OF THE WHITE HOUSE!!!
What a mess he’s made….Sarah Palin, nor anybody else, could do no worse….and after the trashing she has received, she is entitled to vindicate herself and make money with a book……everyone else writes a book….liberals..get over it……Sarah knows what she’s doing…..unlike the lemmings of the current administration….Power to Sarah and Power to the Conservatives, the Independents, and the Republicans, who will restore some sanity to our government in 2010……Obama & the liberal Democrats 15-minutes of fame is going to be over soon!!!!!

54. John Frum | 11.12.09

“…the book really sounds like Palin (meaning that it has ‘a warm and personal tone.’)”

Implying what? That only Sarah Palin has a “warm and personal tone”?

Nice setup, Mark. The only people who can have a “warm and personal tone” in responding to this are people who agree with what you’re implying.
__________

“…heartily trounces the national media…”

How about that? Without their even having a chance to respond, much less defend themselves, members of the national media are “trounced.” Apparently Ms. Palin scored so many runs in the top half of the first inning, there’s no point in continuing the game. Need we remind you, Mark: the “national media” would include…you?
__________

“Halperin says that Palin was easily able to energize her audience with lines like: ‘Don’t let anyone ever tell you to sit down and shut up.’

Can’t wait to tell her to sit down and shut up, then. Just try to stop me, Sarah!

55. Annalyn Caras | 11.12.09

Let me get this straight. You can fail or quit at everything you do. You can outright lie and demonize people you don’t like. You can be a total hypocrite when it comes to abstinence and teen pregnancy. You can align yourself with withcraft and secessionist and still sell books and make a million $$$. Wow, what a country!!!!

56. The Sculpin | 11.12.09

Dr. G - George Soros, Warren Buffet are Bill Gates seem to be very accomplished money managers, yet they are liberal. Please explain!

57. RB | 11.12.09

I agree that arguing by insulting is based on “no substance” I disagree that it takes a lot of brains and talent to achieve goals. All it takes is drive, brains or no brains. I operate my personal budget as a liberal (with only a slight lean to the left) and I’m doing just fine. Fiscal conservatism (or liberalism) can lead to many economic problems and is not the only common sense route for government economics. Economics is too complex to predict based on conservative or liberal ideals.

58. rjflorida | 11.12.09

What is it with Liberals and Palin? To conservatives she is a promising newcomer; Someone who will be watched for the future for potential but who has a lot of proving to do before she moves up. We don’t look at her like she is the second coming of Reagan; Only that she has the *potential*.

Liberals however attack her like they know something that we don’t and that is what puzzles me. Is she really that great? She must be or Liberals wouldn’t hate her so much.

Liberals are in fact creating a career for her that probably would take a lot more work on her to do by herself.

59. sad state of affairs | 11.12.09

Looks like it is leading to 2012 Palin and Kate Gosslin ticket.

60. RWG | 11.12.09

As a hardcore conservative and 30+ year Republican voter, “Going Rogue” is what we did during the 2008 election by NOT voting for the Republican candidates. Why is woman still around. Did the Republicans not get the clue when so many of us jumped ship in 2008. Many of us would have voted for Hillary over Pallin. Wake up Republicans and dump this woman now before you end up losing another presidential election…

61. Steve89 | 11.12.09

Palin is not perfect but she did something most were afraid to — she called Obama for what he is. Obama is slowly but surely showing his true colors and will continue to sink like a rock. He is not a true American and never planned to be — this is just a phase we must endure. This country is not about movie stars, ivy league college professors or more government.

62. Robert | 11.12.09

She already wrote a book? She was only a candidate for VP. Maybe someone needs to tell her this?

63. ZERO COOL | 11.12.09

Alaskan Cop – You’re more or less name calling. What good does that do? True, there are a good number of people that look at BO as the messiah, and will blindly support anything he says or does. However, there are also a good number of people who actually analyze the facts and form their own, educated opinions. Besides, it’s not like SP supporters aren’t guilty of the same thing… Just take a look at what Mary – MI wrote “anything that Sarah Palin endeavors to do there are many of us who will lend her our support” Pledging blind support for anyone is just silly. SP did manage to do a few good things for Alaska. However, she did her fair share of unethical things as well. Lets be honest, the main reason she was nominated for VP wasn’t because she was a great Governor… It was because the JM camp needed to make a last ditch effort, and thought that by nominating a female they could attract HC supporters to their side. Dr. G – Although I disagree with SP being a successful Governor (after all, she completely abandoned her state) I do think that you make some good, educated points. Everyone else – I know blogs are all about expressing your feelings. Some people like to blog simply because they like to argue. Let’s try and refrain from name calling though. You can make your points without resorting to grade school level antics.

64. Ding Dong | 11.12.09

Well, Annalyn Caras, everybody has a right to spend their money on whatever they want. It doesn’t mean that what they spend it on has any value.

Same with voting. Everybody has a right to cast their vote for whoever they want. It doesn’t mean that person is worth a hill of beans - take the infamous George W. for instance.

65. Pedro Gonzalez | 11.12.09

It is great to see how the self-proclaimed intelligent liberals are threatened by the woman from Alaska.
The true shame is that between the two major parties Obama and McCain is the best they could muster. The eloquent-sounding community agitator is equally unqualified for presidency as Palin. Yes, I know he is an expert teleprompter-reader, and he plays a decent game of golf, in fact by now he played more golf than Bush did over 8 years.
No decision still on Afghanistan. We abandoned Israel. The borders are still inviting as ever. Unemployment is over 10%. The dollar is on it’s way out as the dominant currency in the world due to our out of control deficit/borrowing.
Fort Hood was the first muslim terrorist attack since 9-11 but we are too PC to recognize it.
Obama is a sad joke, and our grandchildren will pay the price for our stupidity in putting him in office.

66. junglelisa | 11.12.09

It seems that all those that are against Sara are just afraid and have not ven done have half what she has a complished. It is easy to do a monday morning quarter back when you are on the side lines. Try it first and see if you can do better before you judge her. Others in DC are now facing the same problem after they crictize the previous president.

67. Jerseygal | 11.12.09

We always need something new to feed our excitement, and now we have Sarah Palin!!! - Good heavens…. We are all either outdated or dumb.

It seems that all those that are against Sara are just afraid and have not even done have half of what she has acomplished. It is easy to do a monday morning quarterback when you are on the side lines. Try it first and see if you can do better before you judge her. It seems she has done better than most of us. Others in DC are now facing the same problem after they crictize the previous president.

Successful governor? Somewhat popular yes - successful? Don’t know as she never finished even a single term in that position. Fiscally conservative - not too hard in Alaska when you are awash in Federal earmark funds.

70. busterboy | 11.12.09

I would suggest that the majority of your commentators find new writers for their stuff. You folks must all read the same Liberal Handbook complete with a real index…

It seems hard to believe that some people can think Palin did a good job in Alaska, or that she’s intelligent and/or knowledgeable… but then I remember that Fox News is quite popular in this country and it all fits together so perfectly… it’s sad.

73. naturcynic | 11.12.09

It is amusing that all these folks making comments are quick to judge, and yet none of them has read the book. Sounds like Democratic congressmen passing a bill, doesn’t it?

For Sculpin…they are idiot savants.

Go Sarah Go! Go Sarah Go! I hope she runs for president. She would not bankrupt the country. She has learned alot by supporting her husband in the fishing business. She knows how to spend money wisely which is not being done at this time by the Liberal Left. They wouldn’t know how to make a buck unless its tax payers money or they write a book. They can’t stand the fact that Sarah knows how to run a profitable business and also write a book. I hope she makes multi-millions from this book. I would rather see the money go through her hands than the hands of the left where it is just wasted. Go Sarah Go!

GO SARAH!!!

76. Dirk | 11.12.09

The hypocrisy of the liberals here is almost as large as the rage they spew in their comments:

Q: “How can you be a successful Governor if you can’t even finish out your term?”

A: Your Almighty Dear Leader, the Most Holy Barack Hussein Obama (PBUH), had barely served 1/3rd of his term as a Senator before he shirked his duties to his constituents and ran for President. His victory meant ditching his Senate gig with less than 2/3rds of it served and left his seat to be sold off by Illinois corrupt Governor and filled by another corrupt pol.

Q: “Prior to the end of August 2008 no one outside of Alaska had ever heard of Sarh (sic) Palin and now she has a memoir? Memoir of what; the past year?”

A: Your Almighty Dear Leader, the Most Holy Barack Hussein Obama (PBUH), had his first book (likely ghostwritten by domestic terrorist and Obama pal William Ayers), “Dreams from My Father”, published two years before he was even a lowly State Legislator. Why did anyone need that book and who was trying to groom this unaccomplished nobody whose college academic records remain sealed to this day?

His second book, “The Audacity of Hope”, which takes its title from the sermons of the black surpremicist and anti-Semite Jeremiah Wright, whose pews your Almighty Dear Leader, the Most Holy Barack Hussein Obama (PBUH) sat for 20 years, absorbing the racist conspiracy theories and bitter hatred toward America.

If Sarah Palin had a (D) after her name, the same people who are tearing her to pieces would be hailing her as a modern Horatio Alger story who overcame meager beginnings to ascend to the pinnacles of power, while managing a special needs child and a teenager with poor sexual partner choice and birth control skills. Oprah would be producing the Lifetime TV movie and Julia Roberts would star as the spunky Sarah.

But Palin has an (R) after her name and doesn’t sing from the extreme leftist hymnal and thus the jihad that’s been declared upon her beginning the moment the hapless John McCain’s sidekick. The same people who had a conniption over Rush Limbaugh’s idle musing over whether the public wanted to watch Hillary Clintion aging in office gleefully tore into Palin with a fury that would’ve been offputting if a man was the target.

The arguments that Palin is unqualified for power collapse when you honestly admit that the Ditherer-in-Chief currently diving the ship of state into the abyss is even less qualified to wield the levers of power. This isn’t to say that Palin IS qualified; just that she’s as equally under-credentialed as the current empty suit in the Big Chair.

You can tell just how terrified the liberals are of Palin by their hysterical and over the top attacks on her. If she was truly a joke; if she truly spelled doom for the GOP; then why are the Dems sitting back, stifling their laughter and waiting for the predicted final implosion of the Republicans to occur. When your foes are self-destructing, who rushes in with helpful advice about what they need to do to save themselves? If Palin, Rush, etc. were really sinking conservative fortunes, wouldn’t the Dems/libs be cheering them on and hoping they’d stay around? That’s what sane people would do, but judging from the comments here that are in denial of what the devastating Dem losses in Virginia and New Jersey mean, it’s questionable how much sanity resides on the Left.

Frankly, I think Palin is angling for her own TV show. With Oprah quitting broadcast TV for her cable channel, there’s a big opening with plenty of money and influence to be had and I think Palin will go the Rush route as a voice for her values untrammeled by the petty scrumming of politics. We’ll see.

As usual, a comment thread ends up going off the tracks. A discussion about Palin’s book descends into ideological squabbles and name calling. I’ve got news for all of you: Ideology can only exist in a vacuum; no world, country, community, town, or family will ever be like-minded. This bull-headed stubborn refusal to cooperate/understand one another frustrates me beyond belief. It is the very reason why I, like more and more Americans, claim allegiance to no party.

Lastly, I need to ask “Reasonable” this: what makes you think that you have any control over your health care now? You pay a third party who decides who you see–if your family doctor is not in your insurer’s network, too bad–what care they are willing to let you receive, who you can be referred to. And if they decide you are likely to cost them too much, say goodbye to your “coverage” altogether. This is the business model you want to defend?

Other countries have lost respect for the USA. We, to some degree, have no respect for ourselves anymore. In my own small way, I’m trying to live a noble life to represent the highest form of humanity I can. I am a woman, I have a lot to learn, but there are great role models from history to guide me: Eleanor Roosevelt, Jane Goodall, Madeleine Albright, etc.
I can truly without a doubt say that Sarah Palin will NEVER be in this category. I don’t mean to bash her personally, but good heavens, where does this woman get such a colossal ego? She has incredible self-ignorance when we need leaders with incredible self-knowledge, humility, dignity, intelligence, the ability to think and reason in depth, and SANITY.

79. ken | 11.12.09

Don’t believe anyone who says they are a conservative who voted for Obama. Obama is the antithesis of a conservative. A conservative believes in capitalism not socialism!!

80. Mickey | 11.12.09

Sarah Palin, always a victim.

81. Hilary | 11.12.09

Sarah Palin is proof that our public schools are underfunded.

82. John | 11.13.09

This discussion is both very sad and very scary.

Why would anyone, and I really mean anyone, let someone do something that they simply cannot do at the risk of someone getting hurt. Would you let a person that is not a pilot and does not know how to fly, fly a 747 with several hundred humans on board. I assume not, as it would literally end up being a “train wreck”.

So my question is why anyone in their right mind would consider letting Ms. Palin “fly” 300 million Americans. She herself realized that she was not fit for the job of governing people, which is why she stepped down as governor. A responsible thing to do. Props to Ms. Palin for this realization and doing the right/ patriotic thing.

There are many well educated, intelligent, and reasonable Republicans. So my question remains, how any American could want Ms. Palin to be president.

Frankly, I am not sure why there even is a discussion

a scared and sad John

83. Marie O’Donnell | 11.13.09

I’ll watch her on Oprah, and not read the book. She’s not worth more than an hour of my time, and only to satisfy my curiosity. As far as I’m concerned, she’s not qualified for any Federal office. She knows how to rally a certain ultra right-wing segment of the republican party. The majority of others, including most republicans, know that she isn’t qualified to lead this country. The best candidate is in the White House, and we need to support and respect him. He’s just what this country needs, and everyone will know it at the end of his 8 years in office.

84. Archivist1000 | 11.15.09

Despite Palin’s words: “Don’t let anyone tell you to sit down and shut up” .. Sarah and her Publishers are trying to ’shut up’ a blog that has quoted her from her book …

To all you Palin haters, she certainly has more experience than the man ACORN got elected. He was not even a cub scout before becoming president of this enormous country. He knocked on doors to tell people what the gov’t will buy for them. Remember, the got’t has NO money except what they take from those of us who WORK. The math is pretty simple: if you overdraw your checking acct. by $12 Trillion, where would you be today………prison. The gov’t programs being proposed are a large Ponsi scheme…your great-greats will pay for this ineptness. See why experience helps?
