The new Monitor: Who we are, what we stand for
By John Yemma | 04.02.09
Here’s a video we’ve just produced that gives you a look inside our newsroom, introduces you to Monitor correspondents around the world, and touches on the goal of our website and our new print weekly. The first edition of the weekly is just closing and will be in mailboxes next week. We’re focusing in this issue on the new economy that is emerging from the recessionary wreckage. What a great overview of the Monitor and its mission. I especially enjoyed seeing some of your correspondents in their part of the world.
A few years ago my wife and I visited the Monitor and toured the marvelous Mapparium. What a revolutionary way to view the globe.
This week I am trying to get my “web legs” by visiting the Monitor each day on the internet. I do miss the feel of the paper but I am coming to see some of the advantages of the Web site. I eagerly look forward to your new weekly.
Thank you for your marvelous news organization.

The leadership the monitor is showing in its transition to an electronic format is a tremendous leveraging of its charitable/nonprofit status. Few other news organizations have the flexibility to experiment this way, and what the Monitor learns is likely to influence the entire journalism industry. What an excellent way to carry on the 100 year mission.

Very, very good video. I’ll share it with the Head Librarian at my school. Looking forward to seeing the print weekly. Would like there to be a larger Monitor staff. 11 sounded like a small. Is it? Or is it common to have a staff that size and to pick up articles from freelancers? Separately, I like seeing new info almost every time I go to the homepage. Good work everyone!

Wow !! Terrific !!
How much our family has and continues to enjoy the Monitor’s quality presentation of the news- in every new format.
From my earliest days when the Monitor was 6 dailies, full size newspaper format with magazine week-end insert, to this newest internet format, the Monitor has always been a trusted source to find our food for inquiry - helping us become informed citizens with fully valued worldwide facts. Thank you !! Don & family, Columbus, In

A reassuring video, especially in this crucial time of transition for the Monitor. The world is watching how the Monitor does this because hundreds of still-newsprint users must eventually take this big step into the world of the Internet. One advantage of this great undertaking is the less reliance upon trees–who must give their lives for us to read via newsprint. Can you just imagine the trees now rejoicing that their lives will be spared, and our global warming may not be as great because there will be more carbon-dioxide removers at work to stabilize our planet.

Wow, what a dynamic video! I love the concept of being “inside the world.” The in-depth reporting of the Monitor certainly enables the reader to feel that he is getting the “inside scoop” on global issues, as well as things right in our own backyards. Carry on!

I love the feeling of vitality and the recognition of good being projected in the video about our world. Thanks for all the effort from the Monitor staff to bring this to the readers. I’m looking forward to the first weekend print paper.

What a great video to get me excited about the Monitor and its future plans. The weekly Monitor looks interesting and the daily will be the latest up to date news. I can’t wait to forward it to several friends looking for a great newspaper sources. I enjoyed putting a face to the correspondants’ names too.
Thanks!

Well done video. Thanks for posting it. “Content and clarity” certainly are hallmarks of Monitor reporting. The Weekly looks to be a keeper, much like the Life and Look magazines used to be. Very much looking forward to the first issue in a week or so.
