Okay, so this isn't a scene from the opera, but I couldn't resist using this image. This is actually Al speaking during a business conference in Tel Aviv on May 20. (REUTERS/Gil Cohen Magen)

From slideshow to opera

The Associated Press is reporting that La Scala, one of the world’s most famous opera houses, will be staging an operatic rendition of “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Officials from the Milan opera house say that composer Giorgio Battistelli has been commissioned to produce an opera based on Al Gore’s 2006 documentary, which will premiere in the 2011 season.

I hope composer Batistelli doesn’t succumb to CO2 emissions (if he lives in Milano) while working on his opera. Seriously, the more exposure the state of our imperiled planet gets–in all media–the better. Perhaps Al Gore could devise a low carbon footprint way to get to Milano in 2011.
