Thousands of Facebook users are giving the thumbs down to a recent redesign.
Update: Our readers weigh in.
On Friday, Facebook rolled out a minor redesign of its status feed, which allows users to toggle between two filtering options. As we noted at the time, the new “Live Feed” is like an open faucet – the status updates, photos, and links come spilling out at a rapid clip. The “News Feed,” on the other hand, chews through information posted by your friends and family, and spits out only the stuff Facebook thinks you’ll find interesting.
“Some of you may ask why we are changing the home page again,” Facebook staffer Raylene Yung noted in a post on the Facebook blog. “Like you, we know it can be disruptive when things are moved around, but we hope that these changes make Facebook a more valuable experience for you. We put a lot of thought into all the changes we make to the site and do a lot of testing before releasing anything.”
Yung obviously knew that not everyone would love the changes. But we wonder if Facebook staffers anticipated how vociferous the opposition would get. Less than a week after the news feed redesign, hundreds of thousands of users have taken to Twitter, the blogs, and their own Facebook feeds to protest the recent changes.
Meanwhile, Facebook groups such as “Change Facebook back to normal” and “Members want the old Facebook format back” have watched their numbers swell above the one million user mark. “I read a news article that said fb changed it due to ‘user feedback.’ I am member #1,227,578 of this group so I do not believe users want this,” a member of the first group wrote today. “I know I don’t. At least give us an option between what we had and this.”
Much of the criticism of the redesign has centered on the functionality of the new filtering options. Writing in the comments section of this blog, for instance, one reader noted the following:
I’d rather look for myself to figure out what I might enjoy, rather than them deciding for me. The Live [F]eed for some odd reason chooses to publish every random detail that my friends change or do on their profile which I really don’t care about and didn’t have to see before. Why should I care that one of my friends is now friends with a person I don’t even know? I don’t know. Facebook and its blatant disregard for what its users want astounds me.
Of course Facebook redesigns aren’t exactly infrequent. (Among the most recent updates is Facebook Lite, a pared-down interface aimed at social networking newbies.) And with every new redesign comes a raft of new complaints. In fact, the irascible nature of Facebook users is so well known that a couple jokers have even started a group called “I AUTOMATICALLY HATE THE NEW FACEBOOK HOME PAGE.” It has close to 20,000 members.

<< NASA’s Ares 1-X launch postponed until Wednesday morning | MainThere is always something going on that’s special with Facebook. Who could resist not going on there everyday, just to talk to friend and what not? But, with the new feed, alot of ppl are complaining about it
If I want to know what’s going on with my friends (a new friend that they added & etc) I will take the time to look on their profile but I DO NOT want to have someone else decide for me what I want to see or read. Facebook needs to change it back to the old way. Plus I don’t like the way that they’ve changed some of the games that alot of us play. If they keep this up, another social networking site that will pop up & people will switch to them because they won’t have these problems. That’s what happened to alot of the MySpace people who are now on Facebook.
Facebook new maintenance bugs no log ons for days with maintenance msgs, lost friends (or friends dropped but still on their friends list), and Inbox errors. This is worldwide. RandomIntention has been documenting on twitter.com since happening to them. He and others on twitter are alerting press to these bugs. We may not like the look, but the media is unaware of the serious bugs to even access account for small businesses and others. I see tweets in german, spanish, english, etc. of more and more from people who can’t log on (including myself going on day four). All facebook says is look at the help prompts online, which we follow to no use.
i too do not like the new home page on facebook it’s taken all the pleasure out of being on facebook i hope that you will bring the old home page back soon thank you!
To put it back to the old FB with just status updates go to the upper left hand corner and click “more”, then click and drag “status updates” to the top. Wha-la! Its back to the old FB.
GERI IS RIGHT! i have/had 2285+ friends page and other business fan page..for about 10 days i have been unable to do almost anything..i am unable to chat all my friends are gone! i am not able to use the message box.error. error .bugs .misery. no answers. no help. facebook changes are not allowing me to log on(2 wholes day) and hardly at all the past week..i have family member call me ask why i deleted them..i have also missed business oppurtunities as i interface my fb with my website
i miss the old facebook and hope this doesnt end my fb affair it was grand….
To us old is gold, please we need back the design we are used to and cherished.
I am just not happy with this at all. There was absolutely nothing wrong with how it was before and it just makes no sense at all as to why they wasted time and money to change it this way. I don’t need to know when my friend Felicia’s friend Astrid (a friend of Felicia’s that I’ve never met) makes friends with Joe Blow! I could care less!!! I don’t want it on my feed! Who knows if they will ever change it back…..(fume)
#6 Stir Fry A lot-
That little trick dosen’t make it go back to normal or to the way it was. It only shows your friend’s status updates. It will not show fan page updates and so on. Also the right side used to show recently uploaded pix, people tagged and other things. Those other things are now displayed in the live feed and bog it up. If I check my live feed once or so a day I have to go through pages and pages of updates. I too don’t care who is now friends with whoever and want the old FB back now!!!
The new design is great!!! People need to stop complaining about these changes. In my opinion, the only reason people complain is the same reason why they constantly tweet, myspace, and facebook; because they want to feel important in the ever growing population of online use, they basically want to know that someone is listening. To those people I suggest that you take the changes for what they are worth and quit over-analyzing every little change Facebook makes. It’s just not healthy for you to stress over something so mundane. If more people only has as much passion for real issues, the world would be a better place. But who am I to criticize? As far as I’m concerned I just another one of the people whom want to heard, which is exactly why I am typing up this ridiculous objection to an even more ridiculous topic.
Remember when the “New Coke” came on the market ? Everyone wondered what bozo came up with that idea and now we know that he is working for FB. Coca Cola had the good sense to yank that product off the market….hmmm…what will FB do ? How many loyal FB fans will now take a second look at My Space ?
You’ve got to give us a simple way to delete each post we don’t want to keep (like and instant “delete”option ??!!). Now we have a million hits piling up to clog the memory………. that should be a simple fix, yes??
I’ll give you one major reason why they’ve redesigned it: because scads of people were complaining about all the people posting Mafia Wars spam all over their profile. The new filters let you weed all of that out (or focus on it if you play MW). With the old ones, you were stuck wading through a million game updates that drown out people’s statuses. They new filters let you get around this.
This article and the people at facebook are acting as this is just another run of the mill wave of complainers that are in the minority. This is not the case. The fact is that quite the opposite, this update will lead to people leaving facebook in droves if it is not reversed and reversed immediately. The bottom line is that things I used to like and look up are now hopelessly buried under an avalanche of useless and unsolicited information. This is, as one poster I read said, “utter garbage”.
Since the fb update, at least one of my friends has lost access to my profile (there may well be more, but I don’t communicate regularly with all my fb friends, so I don’t know). We both checked our settings & she ought to be able to see everything, but - nope. Very annoying, since it was all working ok before.
Also, stop telling me to post on various friends’ profiles or suggest images for their profile photo. I don’t need those prompts, & frankly I can’t imagine who would. Is fb under the impression that it knows better than I do how I should interact with my fb friends? It’s like having an annoying, invasive relative peering over my shoulder & making unhelpful comments.
All the crying about the change is unnecessary. Since it’s a filtering option, it can be changed back to the “old” way in a matter of seconds.
If you don’t like the “new” facebook, simply look to the top left menu and click on MORE. Then drag STATUS UPDATES to the top. After dragging to top, click on it. That becomes your default and it is like before. Easy as pie.
I agree, most users are ready to complain and start or join a group that is essentially about nothing just to feel accepted or noticed. It’s too bad the general public doesn’t take a more analytical approach to the issue rather than just make noise about it.
All this “news,” for nothing.
FB you have mess with your site.why do you not just fix all the bugs it has.
I would like you to delete all the info you have on me as of today send a note when your have done that to Mule@extreme-golf-course.com
Not thank you Chip Garrett
Wow,
I haven’t used Facebook in so long I didn’t even know. A year ago, I got at least one message a day, now it’s about one a week.
This is almost the same sound that I heard with the last FB change. Some people will leave, some will not, and everybody will get used to the new version then want IT back next time FB changes their interface…
Is FB annoying? Yes. Was it annoying before they changed the front page? Yes. Will it be after the next inexplicable update? Yes, almost certainly. Is it as annoying as MySpace? No. And certainly not as annoying as Twitter. (Remember Twitter. Not many do.) But it’s annoying, with flurries of invitations to idiotic non-events that apparently pass for entertainment for various Facebookians. And all the add-ons and plug ins — and yet it’s still *really, really boring.*
Bring back Mp3.com.
I’m with all of you. The Live Feed is just too darned much info, and the News Feed doesn’t even show me MY OWN posts! So the choice is between knowing every move my friends make, or not even being interested in my own stuff?
I don’t use Facebook and I never will. But unfortunately, I’ve been inundated with these ‘news’ items about FB user complaints for over a year. Is there a way to turn off FB complaints in the news? Could the news pay closer attention to something more important? boo hoo.
Guys and gals, why complain? Apparently they feel that us upset people only make up small percentage of users. Isn’t that peachy? So many anti-change groups with people joining in boat loads every day mean nothing to them.
A Havranek, you adjust your page however you like. But the rest of us wouldn’t like to have to “fix” everything the FB creators move out of place every few months.
Lastly, don’t get me wrong, some of the updates are quite nice, but most are just a nuisance. At the very least we should be able to vote on certain changes.
I do not understand why someone else gets to chose what we view on OUR facebook page. Why would anyone be really interested in who’s friends with who, if we wanted to know that information we would visit their profile, But no, now we are forced to witness these friendships on OUR facebook page with no choice what so ever. I also really dislike the new filter options. There is way to much stuff being posted on my facebook page all the time and with no option to turn it off, i have lost the disire to actually read any of it, which is sad. Its to complicated and theres to much boring stuff being posted like Whos friends with who and who joined what group, who cares, and do we actually need to know this! I dont think so. CHANGE FACEBOOK BACK!
when the groups like “Change Facebook back to normal” and “Members want the old Facebook format back” have million of users…cant facebook see that people are hating their new design and revert back to old design ? they claim they do this for much better improved user experience, but the number of users in such community clearly indicate that its not working!!
Bring back the old facebook! Now i have to keep clicking on live feed to be up to date, and still see thing I’m not interested. If you really want to redesign it would be nice if we could choose the background color. And if anyone like games on FB well they need some redesign as most of the time they need refreshing while playing, or you loose items etc.
#14 Jon- There was already a way to filter out content like Mafia Wars. Under the previous design, hovering the mouse over a status update caused a contextual menu to appear at the upper right side of the status update. There was always a “hide this user” option, and if the post was generated by an app (like Mafia Wars) there was also a “Hide [app]” option.
I don’t mind having options, I just wish facebook hadn’t forced everyone to change. The trick of dragging “Status Updates” to the top of the list on the upper left of the page in the new design helps, but it doesn’t give exactly the same results as the previous design. Why not let users pick which design they wish to use? It’s all electronic, so it’s not like there’s a lot of wasted paper or resources involved in offering users different display formats.
Change it back…It’s ridiculous. Why don’t facebook focus on updating something that actually needs updating for once.
Hey! out of all that facebook does do for us e.g. reuniting us with friends and family that we have lost contact with over the years or because they have immigrated to another country, school friends that don’t live in our home towns anymore etc. People can really be ungrateful when facebook is just trying to make life easier for us and it is. If anything i hate it when i’m trying to read the news feed and my page hops back to the beginning now i’ve got to get back to where i was reading, now they have changed it so that it doesn’t hop while you reading and when you finished then you can go back to the top and read the new stuff. Simple. There will always be people that don’t like change, all you complaining about is that it was difficult for you to learn how to use facebook to start with and now that facebook is updating with new stuff coming out you have to learn how to use that, and it happens just as you were getting used to facebook. So stop moaning.
I’m sorry- have i missed something? I’ve been on facebook for over a year now- with the last change to the design that everyone complained about- i actually preffered it- and this noew one i dont have a problem with either. Yeah- sometimes i’m not bothered about the quizzes my friends have taken- but then all i do is ignore the post- whats hard about that?
I think some people have too much time on their hands and need to just change the feed back to how it was before via the status updates tool- as mentioned before.
If it was up to me i’d just see peoples status updates- but thats just my preference!
i did prefer the old layout so that down the side you could see whether a friend has new pics or new groups suggestions etc… plus it was all on one page so i could find things a bit easily instead of having to go between 2 pages all the time, lol im still trying to get used to it , but the main problem is now things like farmville and other applications wont always load.
Am I the only one who doesn’t mind the slightly changeD Facebook? To be honested I haven’t even noticed the new changes!
I hate the new facebook. I preferred the way it was before, it was so simple to use. If I want to see who is friends with who, and what their groups/interests/causes are, I will visit their page, thats what the info tab is for. It’s difficult to understand too, my news feed is 14 hours behind! Live feed builds up, and I am unable to read past posts. I haven’t been able to go to my inbox, and for the past 2 hours, log in at all! Facebook is being ruined.
CHANGE IT BACK!
This totally uneeded new redesign is really annoying me now and it is irritating. Flicking between news and live (stupid)!!! i think.
Facebook is now very confusing please change the new redesign and put it back to the old one.
this is a rubbish new design and it needs to be changed!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, i think we should have the opertunity to re-arange our facebook homepage, do what we want, and show what we want, it sucks that facebook have all control over what can or can’t be shown for us, i do like the old facebook look better, i hate the new look, i hate that there are continous error masseges popping up all the time, things like “oops, a error accured”, why is there a error, the chat box keeps clearing out, you have a friend write to you, and you open the chat box up and there is nothing there, and when sending masseges it just will not send, and, then it for some reason just goes back to my home page and i loose the massege i have wrote,
Please solve these problems or i will find other means of social networking, i have already MySpace, and i will stick to that if these matters are not solved, give us, ASAP,the facebook comunity the rights to decide if they want the old or new, and what and where we want to put things on our homepage..
thank you
FB….take a lesson from ‘vegemite’. Like the old saying goes……
“If it aint broken, dont try n fix it!”
“Some of you may ask why we are changing the home page again,” Facebook staffer Raylene Yung noted in a post on the Facebook blog. “Like you, we know it can be disruptive when things are moved around, but we hope that these changes make Facebook a more valuable experience for you. We put a lot of thought into all the changes we make to the site and do a lot of testing before releasing anything.” - This has to be the LAMEST excuse. What facebook did was make more room to add more sponsors. Facebook is so short sighted that they don’t realize cranky people = less people that use the sight=less people the sponsors reach. Raylene Yung needs to get a clue, listen to the people that are signing your paycheck.
if it continue to change or dont change back im goin to cancel my ac conut because its startin to suck and i found a newsite
I don’t like the new FB Homepage either, but I have, at the suggestion of a couple of friends, made changes to my settings that have helped the “new” look. First, choose the “View Live Feed” option and go all the way to the bottom to edit options. Click edit options and change the default of 250 to 5000. The 250 is the default amount of your friends that FB randomly decides from to display their friend updates etc. The limit for FB friends is 5000, so that solves FB picking and choosing what you see. Second, all those friend connections that no one really cares about, that clog up your homepage, can be removed if only that person they are about goes to their “Settings”, then “My Account”, then “News Reel and Walls”, and UNCHECKS “Add a Friend”. If everyone unchecks their own, then their info won’t go out there to clog up everyone’s homepage. So at your Homepage choose “View Live Feed”, update the edit options at the bottom of your screen from 250 to 5000… and then uncheck your “Add a Friend” under “News Reel and Walls” and you know that YOUR info. won’t be everywhere with every change you make. You will still see other’s info. pop up on the homepage until they UNCHECK their own settings. Please give these two tweaks a try and pass them on if they work well for you.
yeah change the old facebook back!!! i hate the new, i don’t know how to use it >:(
I also experience problems with facebook, at least 2x a week where I cannot sign on due to “account maintenance”! It is very frustrating and I e-mailed them the problem but they said they cannot answer each problem individually but that it should be resolved soon! yeah Right!!!!! NOT!!!! I am not happy at all with FACEBOOK right now!
If I wanted to see every pointless update for every friend, I’d be on Twitter. One of the great benefits of Facebook used to be the control I had over both my page and incoming information. Facebook doesn’t seem to get this. The new format is messy. If FB gets any more like Twitter, I’m out.
You know, I am not thrilled about some of the changes, BUT PEOPLE….STOP COMPLAINING, this is a free service provided to us, as much as I am sure that the creators are doing their best to listen to the users; with the mass amounts of info being posted to this site every second, they have to try to weed some things out. I love facebook and am always on it. I don’t feel I have a right to BI^*H about anything usless I am paying for it!
SO THINK ABOUT THAT!! ![]()
yeah change the old facebook back!!!
If I want to see who is friends with who, and what their groups/interests/causes are, I will visit their page, thats what the info tab is for
I applaud Facebook for trying to make it more “user friendly” and exciting, but COME ON PEOPLE!! If there is this much opposition, then the higher ups should be looking to change it back…I really do like Facebook, and like about a billion other people I’m on it all the time.
I JUST WISH FACEBOOK WOULD ACTUALLY LISTEN TO IT’S USERS!! WE DON’T LIKE IT! SO CHANGE IT BACK! THE MILLION + PEOPLE IN THESE GROUPS SAYS THAT WE ARE NOT HAPPY!
When I played Farkle, I liked to be able to increase the size of the screen
(ctrl +), but now I can’t do this, and the playing area is too small for these old eyes of mine. Please change it back to where I can increase the size of the playing area.
I had a lot of friends deleted from my facebook. I felt that A lot of work went into it for nothing. At this point I have lost interest in considering this place safe, secure, and or stable……. I now think of Facebook as an unnecessary play toy rather than a serious networking tool. I don’t think I will use Facebook that much anymore.
Hello I am a relatively new FB use but know enough that I
find the new change very confusing. also maybe this was
done before but when i put down some interests and so forth
that would be vague enough to show what I wanted to show to whoever was looking it up. these were questions like
what are your favorite movies, books, hobbies etc. even
religion and political views which I answered as desired.
Little did I know that whoever clicks on this can also
see MY EMAIL ADDRESS!. That was never in any questions on
that page. On a page perhaps it was settings I specifically click on option to never share my email address. So why do I now see it on an page obviously meant to be seen publicly? I answered questions as non personally or unpersonally I wanted to but they inserted
something that leaves vulnerable to anyone, even strangers, to email me! Especially when I told them I never wanted my email shared. This is over the edge.
I liked FB and playing the game FARMTOWN on there. I suppose if I leave FACEBOOK I will no longer be able to
play this game. So at this point in my mind I am playing
but saying in my mind good bye to the social game that i loved. I will not associate myself with an application that does not respect my privacy and now will have to change my email address as well. It is like changing locks on your house when you know people out there might have picked up your keys and know your address now. to
say the least I am UPSET not irritated, not annoyed,
feeling my privace has been violated without a way to change. It is like closing the barn doors after the horse
has escaped. I was very careful but FB was deceitful.
having been using FB for a while now, about six monthes.
Now I feel that my personal information that i specifically
told them not to reveal was then displayed in the page
listing innocuous things like about me: what is your
favorite movie? what is your favorite book? what are your
interests? I was careful enough about what I revealed to my satisfaction. But when I went back and read it right there in the middle they exposed my email address. Now I do not trust them at all with my personal information..
Just thought others might like to know. I made this same commment just before now and it was not published hhmm wonder why ?. I will look and if it is not published again I will KNOW why myself. And will tell people another way like in emails to friends. Perhaps this will get around. Say AROUND THE WORLD.
yeah change the old facebook back!!! i hate the new, i don’t know how to use it >:
Its easy to complain that they would like the option of whether to have the new layout or the old one. What the people quoted in the article obviously dont realise is that you do have the option!
On the homepage, just go to more, click and drag status updates to the top, abnove news feeds, and select it. Quite simple really!!
Is it really that hard to just click on “status updates” - if you do then you will see what you saw before the change. I like to make my own “list” and control what I look at. And btw - facebook has more than 65 million “active” users across the world so even if a million complain it is a minority and every company expects a certain amount of people to be unhappy with any change they make.
My group is looking for alternatives. We are so sick of the changes. Not sure they can change it back fast enough. I’m really disappointed that FB doesn’t listen to the millions that are disappointed.
Cry babbys. Change good for all. Make Facebook in control of you sheep. You no lik , move to new supplier. Feel sorry for all you social miss fits.
I didn’t even notice it changed, so it couldn’t have been that big of a deal. You all just need to get over it and deal with it, you’re obviously not doing enough with your life if this slight change is this detrimental to your day/week/life.
the new FB layout sucks!!
all those, who say that choosing the “Status Update” option will bring back the old layout, do not know what they are talking about! the status update only gives you a small portion of the updates and than it’s hours old. plus, one cannot see any game updates on that function. to see game updates one will have to choose the “Live Feed” and then get spammed to death! if anybody was unhappy about game updates such as Mafia Wars all they had to do is to hide the application!
people, we’re not talking politcal misconduct or healthcare prevention. it’s FACEBOOK!
I’m also not a big fan of the recent changes overall, but come one…let’s be honest the changes aren’t exactly a threat to your way of life! So stop whining and go write about a worthier cause!!!
Now I know (I think) why I can no longer use the Standard Uploader for photos to an album - a design change! What happened? Why the red X instead of the photo file matrix? Why should that very useful capability disappear at the same time that the newfeed change was made. Not a coincidence. Please, FB, allow us to once again post photo albums with actual photos in them!
Since the change facebook keeps crashing my browser.(Safari) anyone else having this problem?
i havent seen the new changes yet, seeing as i havent been able to log in for ages, and when i do it takes loads of clicking and fuming and refreshing for me to even get a glimpse of the homepage [which is always in basic format, no facebook’s colour codes].
Also, all my friend’s updates are hours and hours behind, and often theyre all jumbled up; ill get a 14 hours ago, then a 2 mins ago then a ‘from yesterday at…’
Now i dont know if all this is down to the new updates, but since ive heard about it i cannot get onto facebook at all. Im not too fussed since i have a life, but most of my friends get hold of me through facebook and i talk to people i havent seen since school.
Sort it out facebook.
I am older than some and had a hard time figuring out facebook the first time, now I am totally lost. I think the biggest part of the game I play has been affected also. we are hoping the “bugs” get cleared out soon.
Many FB users came here to get away from the TMI of Myspace, now the creators have gone to the darkside with this newest change.
I have recommended FB to several organizations that I belong to in order to reach are larger membership but with all this new non stop posting, its not an effective tool anymore.
But much like Myspace, someone will build at better mousetrap and FB will lose its appeal to the public if they don’t wake up and pay attention to its users.
yeah and all of the time it wont let me click on my notifications but it doesnt work and says i have no recent posts and ever since it changed i my fb is always messed up
People need to chill out and go with the flow, redesigns are NOT the end of the world and they aren’t going to stop either. Like it or don’t, but quit complaining cause now Facebook is just going to change again even more to try and make people happy. JUST GET OVER IT!!!
I will look at a friend’s profile if I want to know what she is doing with regard to who her friends are. It’s junking up my mail feed to see all her little changes.
Trying to be like twitter…which if I wanted to do, I would be a member there, not facebook.
This is annoying and I want the old facebook back.
Clicking on status updates does not allow you to see pics people post.. you only see their status updates.. some people like to combine a status update with a corresponding pic.. now to see pics you have to go to News feed or photos..
People complain every single time Facebook changes anything. I’m happy with it. They’re going to whine no matter what; at least Facebook is still innovating.
I like change. The change that FB has inflicted on us is not fun or better. It is a pain in the arse and takes away the fun and ease of being on FB. Give us back the option to keep the old style page if we want to.
I have had a facebook for a few years and this is rediculeous! there are so many stupid changes jjust make up your mind!!!
I don’t like the new design for privacy reasons. It makes me uncomfortable that now every little move I make will be visible to all, not just my friends but friends of friends. If I comment on someones else’s personal family photos, then all my ‘friends’ including those who have never met that family, receive the photos and my comments in their newsfeeds. Likewise, I do not appreciate seeing all sorts of photos of people I don’t know just because so-and-so commented on it. I now feel uncomfortable to post or comment on anything at all.
Well, I’ve had enough of FaceBook. I believe that I’ll just wander on, and look for something else. Then they can change it all they want, and I won’t be bothered.
I agree with the compaints about the new facebook!! Do change it back… It’s a mess now. I look for things that were posted a few hours earlier and they are gone. I too don’t want to know who is a new friend of a friend of mine. I also have some of my friends postings not show up!! It’s becoming no fun anymore…… Why ruin a good thing???
Man, this reminds me of when they first added the “news feed”. And then when they opened it up to the public from only being College and HS students allowed on the site. And then when they added applications to the site. And then when they made the first major re-design to the site with having the tabs for your “Info” and “Photos” and “Boxes”.
Everybody here is a crybaby who complains about the new re-design. It lets you see events, birthdays, and pokes now instead of having to scroll down. You can reset the live feed to “status updates” but personally I don’t feel like seeing a twitter-book homepage with bloody status updates only is why I go to facebook. Frankly, I don’t give a **** what half my friends type in their status update. I want to see what they’ve DONE, not what they think about their toilet.
Change it back!!!! I don’t need you to decide what I think is important on my page.
The new one is better. Just tell us how to make the stuff it chooses for us more accurate.
I actually like the new Facebook redesign. It is a lot easier to use and i enjoy how it automatically refreshes and updates for you. I assume most of the people that complain are the ones who sit there and read everything that is published to their news feed. I think its better, because id like to know if someone that i lost contact to has a Facebook and i see one of my friends add them. Or id like to see an event that one of my friends is attending, because maybe I am interested in attending also.
People are always going to resist change because they want to keep things the way they feel most comfortable in. Step out of the box people.
Oh and no one says that you have to stay on Facebook. If you don’t like the changes, no one is stopping you from deleting your Facebook account.
Hundreds of thousands out of 100 million + is hardly a noteworthy statistic. If they just took a moment, people would realize that the Live Feed option is EXACTLY THE SAME as the feed was before the change. Is there nothing more important with which to concern ourselves?
even if you move status updates to the top, it doesn’t go back to like before. it ONLY shows you status updates, which means none of their posts or notes or game messages show up, but if you choose news or live feed it’s a bunch of really annoying messages and mostly the same things over and over. it’s a lose-lose option.
I also hate the redesign. I can’t stand all the trivia that I now have to wade through on both the “live feed” and the “news feed.” I don’t want to know every time a “friend” makes another “friend” or “updates his status.” PLEASE, MAKE IT STOP!!!!
I hate the new Facebook home page!
Er, actually, I’m not on Facebook and will never be, I just thought I’d join in with the other FB sheep here ![]()
I don’t like the new feed because I have noticed that I “talk” less with “all my friends”. In other words, I am busy answering ONLY the minority that post. I don’t mind talking to them, it’s just that… there is a lot more friends than that the ones who usually publish.

I’m one of the hundreds of thousands of Facebook users who hates the redesigned newsfeed. Like the reader quoted in the story, I don’t want to know about every (or any) friend who is now friends with somebody else, nor do I care if somebody is a fan of something. If I want to know who somebody’s friends are or what causes they support, I’ll look at their profile. Why the heck isn’t there an option to selectively turn off notifications for these broad categories? It’s yet another example of Facebook trying to control what they display, rather than allowing users to have that control. This is not what I look for in a social networking site, and like many others, I’m suddenly exploring alternatives.
