Bert and Ernie grace the Google Sesame Street logo today. Who should be next?

Which Sesame Street character should Google use tomorrow?
Bert and Ernie give a big smile for the Google Sesame Street logo today. This trend may run until Nov. 10, the TV show's birthday.
By Chris Gaylord | 11.06.09
Sesame Street has gotten some serious Google love this week. On Wednesday, Google swapped out its usual kindergarten-colored logo for Big Bird’s happy feet, in honor of Sesame Street’s 40th anniversary. (His foreign friends Chamki and Boombah smiled for the Google India homepage. Their clay cousins Wallace and Gromit spruced up the UK Google site that day for their 20th anniversary).
But the festival didn’t end there. Cookie Monster gobbled his way onto the homepage worldwide Thursday – munching on Google’s name in Australia, France, and here in the states. Today, Google-logo duty fell to Bert and Ernie, who made our list of favorite Sesame Street moments of all time.
Sesame Street’s official birthday is Nov. 10, so Google may keep this trend going all week. If they do, whom should the spotlight hit tomorrow? Around the office, we’re rooting for Mr. Aloysius Snuffleupagus, or “Snuffy” to his friends. Submit your nomination in the comments section below.

Google should have snuffy tomorrow and sunday should be elmo. Then Monday should be Abbie Cadabbie or Zoey!
5. Donna Byrd | 11.06.09
I grew up watching Sesame Street, as I was born in 1971. I think Oscar the Grouch deserves recognition. Would be great if his little worm pal was with him.
6. Lorenzo de Squamish | 11.06.09
Yes!! Snuffleupagus er Snuffy however you spell it! He’s my fave, and he should be on the Google page.
8. Mike | 11.06.09
I am predicting Oscar the Grouch will be soon. As for how the doodle could look, I predict his trash can from a side view being the “G” (lid up) and Oscar popping out of it with one of his signature grouch looks.
10. justin | 11.06.09
GROVER!!!! Especially super grover. Character gets NO love. if it is elmo, im switching to bing…
16. Angel | 11.06.09
Snuffy should be next (he was my favorite). Then Oscar the Grouch. Since they are celebrating the 40th anniversary, I think they should stick with the early characters not the new ones like Elmo (I love him…but he’s just a baby compared to Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Bert and Ernie. I also think that Mr. Hooper would be nice…and it would be a fitting tribute.
19. chole | 11.06.09

i want telly and baby bear to be on google! By the way my birthday is on Nov. 13!
36. Michelle | 11.06.09
It should be one of the original characters. I vote for Oscar (w/pet worm!) and Grover.
37. Meagan | 11.06.09
My vote is for Snuffy, too! He was always my favorite! They could have his eyes be the “O”s and his nose be the “L”. :o)
42. Chunderbus | 11.06.09
Wallace and Gromit were on the Google front page because it was their twentieth anniversary. They have absolutely nothing to do with Sesame Street!
I vote for Elmo!
51. JlG | 11.06.09
OmG I was too excited to see Bert and Ernie up today.. I logged into google purposely to see who would be up.. I’m Ernie’s #1 fan.. I’m also rooting for Oscar the grouch and wormie, I mean who keeps it more real than a lil man that lives in a trash can.. Big ups to Oscar the grouch!!!
52. Toby | 11.06.09
Barkley!! I loved Barkley when I was a kid watching the show, and as an adult, have dog that reminds me so much of him!! ![]()
53. K-ber | 11.06.09
It’s gotta be Oscar the Grouch . . . with his trash can taking up half the page. Haha. Oh, and the Count deserves props, as well!
55. Stelo8 | 11.06.09
Folks,
I think it’s time to give the credit to the real stars of the show… the puppetteers and writers and staff (with a special frame for the late Jim Henson)… just one big group shot of the geniuses at Seseme Street.
Happy Birthday everyone! You definitely deserve this honour!
65. Anne | 11.06.09
SNUFFY for sure! Super Grover, Elmo, the Count, and a combo of Oscar with Slimy would really make me smile! I loved those characters growing up!
66. Mom of a elmo lover | 11.06.09
ELMO ELMO we have come to Google since we found out about the diff characters being up and so far everyday my 2 year old waits and waits and then goes oh its not Elmo, so our VOTE IS ELMO!!!!

My boys are all grown now but our favorites were OSCAR and the COUNT. I agree with Angel above and think fitting MR. HOOPER into a Google loge would be a wonderful tribute.
106. Kristen | 11.06.09
YIP YIP YIP YIP YIP YIP…I walk around to this day saying that! LOL everyone loves (and knows how to get to) sesame street!!!!!!!!!!
110. JARED BELL | 11.06.09
OOOOOOSSSSSSSCCCCCCCCCAAAARRRRRRRRRR he is awsome you better use oscar the grouch
117. Joan | 11.06.09
Grover or the Count. Definately one of the originals until nearer the 10th. Then it should be the entire first year Sesame Street Gang!
118. Jerry | 11.06.09
Oscar the Grouch (altho Cookie Monster is my all time favourite)…despite the fact that I am looking for my Ernie
126. Anne | 11.06.09
I’m with Ken S. It’s got to be the so, so, cute Super Grover! He is by far the most lovable, enthusiastic and the quirkiest character ever to have taught me life’s little lessons on Sesame Street!
127. Kristy | 11.06.09
Google should run this all month long. That way all the characters could have a day ![]()
130. Elizabeth | 11.06.09
I miss Herry!! I wish there he was around more. http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Herry

136. Kathy Sturm | 11.06.09
Oscar THE Grouch, Jim Henson, The Sesame Street sign, Animal, Elmo, Snuffy, Barkley, The Count. Seriously, 40 years!
137. Angel | 11.06.09
Oscar should DEFINITELY be the next one; he’s a Sesame Street O.G. as well! I’d like to take this opportunity to come to Oscar’s defense as to why he’s so mean. He’s not mean, he’s misunderstood. Sesame Street has been on for 40 years. Imagine living in a trash can for that long while little kids eating ice cream and playing and laughing come near your trash can; you’d tell them to scram too, right? In all the 40 years, no one has offered Oscar an ice cream cone or a makeover or some new digs for him. I truly believe that if Oscar were included in more activities and he got cleaned up, he’d get a new lease on life, he’d have more confidence, and he would be a little less grouchy ![]()
138. Steve | 11.06.09
One… ha, ha, ha…. Two… ha, ha, ha… The count rocks. He should do the countdown to the birthday.
141. Serena | 11.06.09
It should be C00KIE MONSTER because i love when he eat’s a lot of cookies and also have a pit bull that is2 weeks old and i named it after cookie monster lol
143. Sharon McEachern | 11.06.09
How about the Muppet character introduced seven years ago — the little girl who was HIV-positive. Ethic Soup blog tells how conservative Congressional members threatened the funding of Public Broadcasting System (PBS) and warned them (read blackmail)not to allow this new Muppet character in shows aired in the U.S. This post is at:

I love it,
Oscar the Grouch, Grover/Super Grover, Kermit The Frog, Snuffy would be great with big Bird again, Count would be funn too, he could count all the “O”s. I don’t think it matters which character they use. All of them are important and they all teach or taught something to almost all of us.
“B is for Bubble. B is for Bubble, B is for Bubble in Bubble and B is for Brother who Bought me some, and B is Better than Any letter in Bubble gum.”
151. Devon | 11.06.09
I think that video had nothing to do with Brent and Erine when I typed in the charector like the cookie monster ther was a video about the cookie monster saying google over and over again
152. PantherPage | 11.06.09
We should stick with the classics.
Elmo just has to much attention and is a newer memeber.
Not at all discounting his validity as king of the muppets, but this is an OLD SKOOL celebration.
We had Wed-BigBird
Thur-Cookie Monster
Fri-Ernie and Bert
Sat-Kermit the Frog
Sun-Grover (Super Grover)
Mon-The Count
Snuffy is an important part of BigBird’s life and would make a great Google, but, for me he’s gonna have ta’ wait.
I’d like to see one for the man that nearly everyone has forgotten.
I remember that tragic day, in my young 10 year old life, when on the network news the message of the passing of Mr. Hooper was announced.
Now we have Hooper’s store, but no Harold Hooper (Will Lee).
Google would do well to have Monday’s picture as all the members past and present with the “living” letters spelling Google.
hek just make Monday “Hooper day”

I vote Super Grover! He has always been my hero. Everything I have ever needed to know in life I’ve learned on Sesame Street!
167. Joyce | 11.07.09
Grover - the role model for all of us who love the street. Sweet, kind, generous, enthusiastic
169. Sharon | 11.07.09
I was born the day before Sesame Street came on the air, so I literally grew up with it. I think the show has grown with the times, and is still fabulous and relevant today.
As for my vote, since my fav, Cookie monster, already had his day, I’ll have to vote for Super Grover, or “the number eight”, as in, “psst! hey! wanna buy an 8?”
those were the days. ![]()

It’s gotta be Oscar the Grouch . . . with his trash can taking up half the page. Haha. Oh, and the Count deserves props, as well!
OH! You’re my new favorite blogger fyi
172. Chris | 11.07.09
I think we could see an Elmo one being made. That would be funny…maybe you could also do Count the Vampire.
174. tea partygoer | 11.07.09
All these people, with their fond memories of Sesame Street, have been brainwashed by the mainstream media. The characters on the program — all the characters — are part of a liberal conspiracy to bring socialism and pollution-control to the our beloved country. As Glenn Beck says “Isn’t it interesting, isn’t it fascinating that Kermit JUST HAPPENS to be green?…a coincidence?…uh-huh, uh-huh…I DON’T THINK SO!!!”
I agree with all my partygoing friends — PBS will never get a dime from a single one of us!
175. Warbooze | 11.07.09
Put the YIPS YIPS on Google. The aliens that come from space and are amused by things. But you can also put up Elmo, Grover, and Oscar.
177. Maria | 11.07.09
GROVER!! He is the hardest working muppet, he is a superhero and his best friend is his mommy.
GROVER GROVER GROVER!!!!
189. Kyle | 11.08.09
How about the 20th anniversary of the fall of the berlin wall. Might just be considered a little more important in the number of lives it changed for the better than Sesame St. Enough is enough.
190. ShAron D | 11.08.09
I think it should b all of the sesame street characters so it is even, or zoe and Elmo together
193. Me | 11.09.09
NONE! This is so freaking ridiculous. Real people get one day of rememberance for discovering cures for diseases and Sesame Street gets this? Priorities? Wake up America.
197. Adam G. Neville | 11.09.09
22. jim | 11.06.09
