Modern Warfare 2 review roundup
Sales soar as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 reviews pour in.
By Chris Gaylord | 11.10.09
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,” likely the biggest video game of the year, went on sale at midnight Tuesday. And hype has hit a fever pitch. Analysts expect the mature-rated title to become the most successful entertainment launch ever – demolishing sales records for movies and video games. Several Innovation commenters told us they plan to skip work today (or all week) to play the game. And finally, the embargo on reviews has lifted, letting loose a torrent of praise.
If you haven’t purchased the game yet – and its 96 percent Metacritic rating isn’t motivation enough – here’s what reviewers are saying about the blockbuster release.
Opening shot
While the story in the first Modern Warfare surprised many with its power and depth – moving deftly from explosive to disturbingly quiet moments – the game’s multiplayer was what made it a blockbuster. Jeff Gerstmann at Giant Bomb says that both aspects are back, even if the single-player parts try a little too hard.
Rather than taking a ton of huge big-budget risks, Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer carefully builds upon the developer’s previous success in ways that will astound people who have spent the last two years learning every corner of every map in the previous game. Instead, the risky stuff is saved for the single-player campaign, which offers tightly packed thrills and rock-solid gameplay, though the narrative is so wild it can get exhausting. [Giant Bomb, 5 out of 5]
The atmosphere
Many reviewers agree that the game’s action and pacing set Modern Warfare 2 apart from most other first-person shooters.
The player is both thrilled and disorientated by the constant pace of the action which comes so thick and fast that the player really does feel that death (or at least game over) could come at any second. It’s in this way that Modern Warfare 2, more than any other shooter in the market, both challenges the player’s reflexes and accuracy while at the same time engaging their primal need for survival. It all adds up to some of the best shooter action money can buy. [The Telegraph, 10 out of 10.]
Single-player story
If you’re not interested in playing this game online, be forewarned: IGN was far more excited about the game’s mulitplayer mode than its five-or-six-hour campaign.
For the strictly single player crowd, however, Modern Warfare 2 is surprisingly short, and doesn’t live up to the standard set by previous Call of Duty games. The campaign can be completed in as little as four and a half hours, and the missions make better scenarios and moment-to-moment adrenaline rushes than they do a cohesive, well-told story. [IGN, 9.5 out of 10]
Multiplayer
This is where the game really sparkles, according to most reviewers.
Multiplayer is every bit as good as you’d expect. Infinity Ward has refined rather than revolutionised the Call of Duty 4 formula, but the key here is customisation. You can create a personalised profile with your own emblem and call sign, unlock your own killstreaks and even unlock ‘pro’ versions of perks if you want to push your character as far as possible. It’s polished, smooth and leagues ahead of almost every other FPS on Xbox 360. [Offical Xbox Magazine UK, 10 out of 10]
New Spec-Ops cooperative mode
The new game adds two-player co-op scenarios. Much like another recent blockbuster, “Uncharted 2,” MW2 places these battles in familiar locations, but outside of the normal storyline.
You and a buddy can battle through a series of bite-sized challenges; borrowing scenarios and locations from the single-player story, each mission has you and a partner completing tasks together (like surviving an enemy onslaught in a shopping center or racing against one another in snowmobiles). Spec-Ops is more than the usual “battle against waves of enemies” but not quite a full, stand-alone story. Instead, it sits in a middle space that’s surprisingly fun and engaging. [1Up.com, A+]
Final words
To add a little “balance” to this applause, we turned to the publication that gave the game its lowest rating thus far: the thoughtful UK mag Edge, which gave the game a 9 out of 10. (That alone should say something about the caliber of Modern Warfare 2.)
As an experience, it is occasionally undone by a tension torn between being serious and being Clancy, being massmarket and being complex. War games aren’t funny, it says, then starts a war against ‘Ivan’ that’s straight from Red Dawn…. So which game is Modern Warfare 2? Is it that mechanic-defining, comprehensively structured and plainly excellent shooter with the best multiplayer in the genre, or a game that entirely fetishes its subject while being mock-serious about it, with the best multiplayer in the genre? We’re not sure it’s either, or neither. Modern Warfare 2 is brilliant, and just a little bit dumb. [Edge, 9 out of 10]

3. Sasuke Uchiha | 11.10.09
My xbox is broken but i cant wait to play this game this game is really going to be one of the best games out to date.
4. Nate | 11.10.09
Are you serious with the Kingdom Hearts thing bro? I think you might be exaggerating how anticipated that game was by, well, a lot. I can think of a couple dozen other series that have been more anticipated. Maybe not by you. But seriously, if you never played the first Modern Warfare, then you cannot possibly imagine how they could improve on it, and yet, they have. Stunning graphics, stunning attention to detail…. in short, it’s extremely addictive.

I along with many other MW fans queued at Midnight at one of many GAME stores opening. I waited an hour in the freezing cold to get the game early and saying it was more than worth it is the understatement of the century. MW2 is everything I expected it to be and so much more.
I also am a fan of the multiplayer side of COD franchise and MW2 does not disappoint, I especially love the varied Kill Streaks and was over joyed a moment ago when I launched my first AC30…Oh its good.
I cant wait to unlock and use the tactical nuke for 25 kills.
All in all this game has changed my life, its incredible. Thank you Infinity Ward and Thank you SONY…..
p.s. thanks for my girlfriend for remaining interested over the last 4 weeks of me going on and on about the release

Man-o-man…I can’t wait to receive this game in the mail. I have school so I preordered it. I ordered it through buy.com and got 1 day shipping. I hope I get it tomorrow….I have tomorrow off of school.
8. tonbetter | 11.10.09
This game is more than what was advertised. It has so many ups and downs and twists and turns that you can’t keep your head on strait. The multiplayer is something that a casual gamer as myself can enjoy for many months unlocking the 22 pages of call signs or the 10 pages of Titles. This will with out a doubt be the Game Of the Year.
9. modernwarfare_junkie | 11.10.09
by far the most entertaining fps game…
this is a must-have guys. Dont even contemplate on getting it. Just get it!!
10. james456 | 11.10.09
I’m with you on the Kingdom Hearts thing! Way better game than COD4 in terms of story and emotional depth yet wasnt really that highly anticipated… doesn’t stop it from being amazing though. Oh yeah and MW2 is good too I guess
11. snowpony | 11.10.09
You’ve gotta be joking about the Kingdom of Hearts reference.
I’ve been to quite a few midnight launches, and the launch of MW2 was by far the most anticipated and most successful. The GameStop I went to had about 300+ people in line by 11:30, and I had heard that Best Buy had about the same. Luckily my boyfriend who was waiting since 9 pm was #5 or 6 in line and got his pre-ordered Prestige Edition within the first 10 minutes of midnight.
When it comes to anticipation, I can say that GTA IV comes close to MW2. When the #’s came in for GTA IV, it had sold $500+ million the first few days and was the biggest entertainment launch. I honestly think MW2 is going to surpass that and become the new record.
12. Bill | 11.10.09
This game is the very definition of awsome. I might as well go ahead and plan to fail school this year because this game is going to eat up all my time.
14. Bruce | 11.10.09
This game is amazing!!!! After eventually canceling my preorder through HMV who messed it up sooo many times, i went and picked it on the midnight launch. I was lucky enough to pick up the Prestige Edition. The NVG’s are wicked!!!!! the game is sick in the head, i took the whole day off work and uni to play. I would imagine most of the men in the western world would be doing the same!
15. millzee | 11.10.09
Single player = great but short
multi player = pants.
overall 2/10
dvd going back to shop for my money back
16. Dara | 11.10.09
I dunno. I got the origional mw quite late, around when cod 5 came out. I thought the campaign was to short and to easy (it took me less than a weekends gaming to do it on veteran) and that most of the players online were way to serious for me. I’ll probably get assasins creed 2 though.
17. Jay | 11.10.09
MW2 bloody epic game, 10/10 all round, love the new xp point system online and the broad range of things to customize online, shame single players short, but the russian slaughter mission can be played over and over again! infinity ward and activation have done us proud!
18. GDawg | 11.10.09
Easily the best FPS ever to hit the shelves. Throw away you crappy 360’s and get a decent console to play it on….PS3 of course!!!!
19. wes | 11.10.09

20. Sheetmetalbrakeman | 11.10.09
Just got it in the mail. Can’t wait to try it. I just got to level 65 in cod5 so timing was perfect. TEAM DEATHMATCH!!!!!
21. Cerulean | 11.10.09
He’s not wrong about the Kingdom Hearts reference, I think it was just misplaced with the typical type of “gamer” that xbox live/psn network and Modern Warefare draws. Kingdom hearts -was- a shocking annoucement to gamers because of the awkward marriage of two legendary companies among other things.
At any rate he meant well so rather than hitting on him simply because you don’t understand it (or don’t know anything other than fps games or other shiney games) just do yourself a favor and move on.
Now, on topic, Modern Warefare 2 is an amazing game on it’s own with or without the first serving as a backdrop. It has a bit of everything for any type of gamer with its extreme customizability and myriad of different game types. Honestly, and this comes from a person that rolls his eyes at over hyped games and their “gamer” fanboys, Modern Warfare two is easily the best FPS out there right now.. for multiplayer. You simpy will be hard pressed to find a more fullfilling experience. It’s not perfect by any means, but you won’t be upset with what you end up on.
Even I enjoy it and for once I believe all those reviewers truly did their job right (happens every so often) and gave the game a fair and honest review.
23. phenox 7 | 11.10.09
This game as absolutely set the standard to an all time high for first person shooters! Never before have i fell in love with any game like this one, enough said.
24. michael | 11.10.09
to be honest there isn’t anything like Nazi Zombies so I’m pissed. The game actually feels more like an arcade game than the real thing. WOrld at War is amazing and I personally think Modern Warfare 2 doesn’t compare. I’ll be selling my copy for a loss on Ebay real soon.
25. random reviewer | 11.10.09
The plot in the single player of COD 4 was at least somewhat plausible. The plot for the long-awaited sequel, MW2 is absolutely ludicrous. Most of the narratives just had me laughing aloud at how ridiculous they were. The snowmobile part also had me laughing. (home-boy shooting stance over the windscreen)
However, I’m very happy with the new firearms that were added to the game as well as the core firearms that remained available in the game. It’s great to see things like the FN FAL alongside FN’s newer F2000 and the newest SCAR-L and SCAR-H. It was nice to see the Remington 870 and the SPAS-12 added. I liked seeing the Steyr AUG and the as well as some of the more recently released (or still prototyped) firearms like the KRISS. The Desert Eagle can go hang itself, but I’m glad the 1911 and the USP’s are in. Having a Glock in there doesn’t hurt either. Yay for snow camo and snow missions! Hooray for the return of the MP5 and the P90.
The multi-player is top-notch, as I would expect from Infinity Ward.
Single player: 7/10 -3 for the laughable plot, ridiculously overpowered riot-shields (sorry, you can’t stop rifle rounds with a riot shield… whoever coded riot shield defense should be forced to stand behind one while rifle rounds are coming at them…) and the heartbeat sensors. (The heartbeat sensor is just retarded, whoever thought of that should be fired. Then again, it’s probably the same person who coded the riot shields, and we already solved their problem.)
Multi player: 9/10 (-1 for no dedicated servers on the PC edition)
Co-Op / Spec Ops play: Untested
Overall: 8/10 a few misses on realism with plot and body armor/riot shields, but still a great multi-player FPS)

no no no game lies. aint buyin it. game lies running around like clowns to get stalked from behind and killed. EPIC FAIL Game.
27. Spence | 11.10.09
I had the game before it came out and played through it. I thought it was the best story line for a video game in years. the game play was as realistic as a video game can get (thus far). The attention to detail was amazing with the weapons and areas. and you cant beat the Red Dawn references!
28. Slinky Six | 11.11.09
I just finished the campaign and I agree that it tries so hard to out-do itself and the last game that it become stupid on almost an insane level. That said, there are so many “THAT WAS AWESOME!” moments that ultimately it’s the best single-player experience I’ve had in a while. And unlike most people, I would prefer the campaign stay short but be of the utmost quality than be dragged out and slowly become annoying, repetitive, and frustratingly stupid (cough…HALO 3…cough).
What’s amazing about MW2 and Infinity Ward as a developer is that they’ve made a game of such quality that it utterly owns and destroys exclusives like Halo: ODST or KillZone 2, yet it’s available on every system and rocks just as much on the PS3, Xbox 360 or PC. Granted, the PC will have the best visuals and controls thanks to the mouse, but the fact that the game runs at a solid 60-fps on all three is a testament to some hard work and outstanding programming.

I got my copy which I pre-ordered today via USPS. Why people wait in line is beyond me but I will say the game is pretty incredible with amazing realism. The SP Campaign is not as Cohesive as the previous one and is only around 5 hours long. The Story is more like a bunch of action chapters from a movie that jumps from one area of the world to another . But those action moments will really make you feel the intense action of battle no matter where you jump to. MP Is much like the previous version with newer weapons/maps and added elements where you get streak kills and the ability to huke the map if your good enough to get a 25 kill streak.
I really don’t play MP Alot but will end up giving this one a bit more time once I am done with the story.

Where do i start i spent 3 hrs tracking this bad boy release down yesterday.. I got in from work at 8pm and put the game on(XBOX 360) of which was sold out in the mixture of 22 shops/supermarkets i visited in a 8 mile radius. They had a few copies on PS3 here and there but the good old XBOX360 sold out … Just to clarify i do have PS3 and XBOX360 and the online NETWORK IS LIGHT YEARS BETTER THAN PS3 PERIOD,,,I own both so have no need to defend either.
Back to the game switched it on and thought i will do the story first or at least start it… What can i say it blew my breath away to say the least the graphics the realism the content the action the gameplay..I could not take my eye off it the attention to detail surpassed my ever imagination.. I got to the 3rd mission in ACT 3,,, 1.am decided to go to bed, but just before,,i thought i will just have a little butchers on multiplayer,,,WOWWWWWWWWW it was everything i expected and more , there is just so much added and so much more to do . ITS EXACTLY WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED AS THEY SAY!! I ended going to Bed at 3am although i was that enlightened to stay up around the clock and stay off work as i was hypnotised with passion and excitement every second i glared at the 50inch LCD, The time just flew by as if everything had slowed down during gaming , where the rest of racers was continuing to age at the normal rate…. To sum up the game its one word IMMENSE, it truly is a game for the ultimate gamers , now 30 years old ive been gaming since 5 years old been through all the pc’s and consoles and this is right at the top of oblivion just like the makers Infinity , can.t see anyone matching this sort of quality for a long long time its the absolute GODFATHER OF GAMES …IF YOU HAVE NOT GOT IT GET IT BUT JUST DO WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO SELL A EYE OR A LIMB , just make sure you own this truly amazing game which again and i can.t stress,,stretches my whole imagination ten fold..So much more to add but work must god dam prevail!!!
XBOX 360 My Gamer tag is: salfordscally

I got the prestige Edition, I pre-ordered it back in August and have patiently (barely) waited for 12 weeks plus. The NVGs work suprisingly well and the game itself kicks so much ass it is hard to comprehend.
What do you expect from a game that is selling 150 preorders per minute in peak sale times?
33. Gatekeeper | 11.11.09
This game is a disgrace to PC users. With lack of dedicated servers, the ability to mod it to your taste, only 9 vs 9, steam, admin support and many more reasons why PC gamers are taking a back seat in Infinity Ward’s eyes. Does Infinity know PC gamers are the ones who kept this game alive so long with the ability to make it their own? Console gamers have no clue what clans are all about. This game kills clans and their ability to play as a group (unless you have only 18 members). Will this game set a trend for all PC games? If so, it can affect more than your clan, what about all those server companys who rent space. What about all those websites that are dedicated to the support/maps/skins/mods? This game just may be the beginning to the end of what a clan stands for! Unite PCers and fight for your existence!

I got COD4 MW late in the game and was instantly hooked. I played through it on the PS3 and thought it was awesome. For my birthday the wife got me the XBOX 360 (I think she got it because one of my neighbors mentioned how many more kid friendly games there are for 360 than ps3)
So having said that, I must say that I found the graphics on the 360 version of MW2 to be outstanding! The game is phenomenal as well, I’m working my way through on Veteran and find it to be challenging but not overwhelming.
I did go ahead and play online a bit and I like the environment there as well. So it looks like the PS3 will be relegated to a blueray player and I’ll come creaping out of the basement all pasty white from time to time when the wife forces me to take a break from MW2!
35. Armedbronco | 11.11.09
I just beat the campaign… and wtf? a cliffhanger come on now give us some closure!!!!!
36. The_bighouse | 11.11.09
I am in my 40s, previously military trained, and professionally employed. I am married, have children, and do not live in my parents basement.
That being said…
I am a PS3 owner. I play all of the military style shooters. I enjoyed the first Modern Warfare to some extent. I enjoyed the World at War. I enjoyed SOCOM. But what most of these games lack is the real military experience of combat.
Running around with a banana clip full of rounds spraying them while bunny hopping all over the screen, isn’t combat, at least no where near real combat. If real combat were truly like this, there would be body bags coming back from Iraq and Afganastan by the hundreds daily. No offense to our veterans and soldiers, thank you for your service….
But these games are just not tactical, nor are they realistic. The graphics are superior however, sound, light, etc… And it even looks as though MW2 is making a better attempt at destructable environments, something that was embarrassingly missing from the last versions… I mean really, if you shoot a rocket round at a wall, it is going to do some damage. Hell if you shoot a .50 cal sniper round at a wall it is going to do some damage, but yet, little appears in those incarnations.
I have found that Operation Flashpoint has a much more realistic approach to combat, forces opposing each other from covered or distant positions. MW of the past has felt like the Redcoats of the Revolutionary war in comparison. Two sides standing on either side of a battle field and shooting until one side falls, breaks, or wins…
So I have reserved my copy of MW2. I will pick it up on Friday, and over the weekend I will bask in the glory of it all. But if it remains a point and spray game, where two sides just hack at each other aimlessly, I will be going back to gamestop to trade it in for something more challenging, like Tetris…..
So here is to hoping…
37. Brian | 11.11.09
Kingdom hearts? nah…I’d say its the most anticipated game since battle toads for the Wii
38. TH3 FUTURE | 11.11.09
The PS3 is pure FAIL! They didn’t even get the download map pack on COD4! Everyone gets this game for the multiplayer, you can only play the campaign a few times before it gets boring. As far as PC,who cares there’s clans on 360 and PS3.It’s not DOOM! those days are long gone,i wanna sit in front of my big ass TV and enjoy the game not stare and click a mouse. The Xbox 360 will be first to get the map pack for MW2, and will continue to WIN the war over the PS3. The game is amazing and I will never go back to COD4 again, probaly because I traded that worthless thing in for like $5 bucks towards my Prestige Edition MW2.
39. wizardman824 | 11.11.09
I got my copy on tuesday night so I only got to play 1 MP game, but that one was freakin’ awesome!!!! I love how you get experience for doing this such as blocking bullets. The best gun that I found so far was the spas 12. One hit kills all around ftw. As for tinight, I hope to do absolutely nothing except eat and play MW2
40. PC Whiners | 11.11.09
I’m really sick of hearing the PC whiners cry about this game and how IW screwed them over. Sorry, but consoles are winning the war over PCs, and the developers are going to make games for the dominant platforms. M comp is set for gaming, I own all the consoles (home and handheld) so I’ve got my bases covered whenever a game comes out. I don’t see why these PC users spend money to buy/upgrade their PC gaming machines, but refuse to shell out the money for a $300 console and then whine and cry when the PC version lacks something the console version has. It sounds like they just refuse to change with the times and technology. Are these PC users the same people who still use cassette tapes and laser disc players?
41. Really People? | 11.11.09
People really skipped work and school to play such a DUMB game?
Wow.. show’s how lazy Americans are really getting.
43. Lewis | 11.11.09
I’ve played a little more than halfway through. It seems to be faster paced than the first MW. The plot is far fetched but I did notice that it was a video game… I am enjoying the plot thus far. I’m glad to see the voice of Gaz return to play the part of Ghost. Also glad to see Soap as Captain.
I only did one multiplayer round. It was insane… The predator strike, Pave Low and Harrier all in a row… wow. We lost fast, haha. I SUCK at MP but I play it anyway. At least I have death streak perks…
Get the game if you liked the first Modern Warfare. That’s the bottom line.
44. Mario | 11.11.09
I don’t know about office productivity but I can see why you would not want to stop playing until the game is finished! This game is awesome! The only problem I can find is that I can’t have multiple profiles, my grandson uses my computer and I don’t want him using my profile.
46. TH3 FUTURE | 11.11.09
Xbox 360 comes with a warranty same as PS3. It’s a technical device that will always encounter problems. Winning the war yes, there’s so many people that bought 360 over PS3 so you will have more warranty work. PS3 fails as well,I have had my 360 for about 4 years, and microsoft fixed the problem faster than I expected. Customers Service also up sold me a warranty for $20 for an extra 3yrs. And told me no repair to the 360 would ever cost anyone over $90,even if people drop it and send it in!
47. Foxyroxy419 | 11.11.09

being a die hard fan of call of duty, i was patiently waiting for the release of MW 2. i have played all versions of call of duty, from
“call of duty” to “call of duty: world at war” time and again, and i never get tired of it. waiting for this baby to be loaded into my system.
Hail! Cpt. Price.
51. Captain Jack | 11.11.09
I bought the game for the online multiplayer features. The game is wrought with server issues and it is almost impossible to play in multi player mode. you are left in the lobby waiting to join a game and nothing and I mean nothing happens. Special Op’s is the same issue. Error connecting…..
so yes this game has raked in big bucks but the developers don’t know how to deliver a complete issue free game.

Picked this up early Tuesday, blew through the campaign in 5 hours (satisfying, though) then hopped into multiplayer.
(Oh, 360 btw)
Zero issues getting into a game, little/low latency. My only complaint so far is I think the killstreaks may be a little too op. And I’m saying that not as the victim but the guy using them. I had both a Pave Low and Harrier in the air simultaneously thanks to a lucky carepackage and a little streak of my own, and it was just murder. I know these can be shot down but it’s such a risk to take the time to do so I don’t even blame players for not trying.
I’m amazed by the number of highly ranked players already as well; people have too much time on their hands.
55. C.J. | 11.12.09
Great game thus far. Why did IW not include all of the Multiplayer Stats from WaW. Niemisis, # of UAV, Harrier, Carepackage ect. Great game.
56. DOA | 11.12.09
Bought the game at the new Tasco 15 hours after launch. Nobody thought to look there apparently. All my friends had to go to gamestop and either stand in line or show up the next day to here them say their out of stock haha.
Anyway,
Single Player 7/10
2 player offline is 6/10
Multiplayer 2/10
I reserve the right to change this rating!
Somebody is getting fired at IW. The game servers have been down all day today. The 1.02 PATCH made things worse for online play.
My friends and I cannot get in the same room without going through a strange work around of deleting friends then re-friending so we can get into a party and go play. The lag is horrible, worse than COD WaW.
The new way of inviting friends is clicking invite which brings up the PS3 friends list then you choose to send them a message asking them to join your party. Yup, a horrible way to invite friends. (Hey IW, FIRE THE IDEAL MAN ON THIS). I will feel better about the money I spent.
There is one thing that MW2 does setup for very well: CAMPERS.
Most people in a match is forced to do this. Each team will have 1 or 2 players that can kill everyone else.
I find it hard to believe with all the reviews for this game and all overwhelming that no one found out the Multiplayer system is so screwed up.
Things that make you go hmmmmm. Can I get a job reviewing so I won’t have to use my brain anymore? Nevermind, I will get a job talking politics on cnn or fox. No brains allowed.
DOA

To the guy who made the Kingdom Hearts comparison: You have to be on some heavy crystals to say that. I could understand if you said Halo or GTA but come on dude LoL. Nonetheless, I was engaged with the campaign. Now ppl complain about the story being too short. Let’s get real guys, none of you actually brought it to play thru the story, you wanted to shoot or shoot with your friends online and that’s what’s been pulling you guys in to buy this game. IW has really upped the ante and made the multiplayer even more addicting. The Spec-ops mode is pretty sweet too. A mix of challenges to test your mettle (and your friends as well). I truly feel that this game will be….wait let me correct myself: I KNOW this game will be spinning in every 360 and PS3 console for months on end.
58. shadowsprite | 11.12.09
“The campaign can be completed in as little as four and a half hours, and the missions make better scenarios and moment-to-moment adrenaline rushes than they do a cohesive, well-told story”.
If you want an adrenaline rush just go to Palestine,or Iraq, or Afganistan for a week. Knowing you could be shot at a check point or blown up by a real bomb or caught in friendly fire will really be a challenge to test your mettle. Is war ever a chesive, well-told story?

Ok. I am a huge fan of Modern Warfare 1. So i was equally anticipating modern warfare 2! The Campaign part was excellent the story telling kept me on the edge of my seat. The Special Ops is a great addition to play with friends not necessarily online and they are a challenge on their own.
It is however the online multiplayer part of the game that hugely dissapointed me. The GRAPHICS! The graphics make me feel like i was using a Nintendo 64! or whatever the name of that was. Too cartoon like for me and the maps had only one good thing about them… some of them were huge! That’s a plus but at the same time the Favela map i think that’s its name was too crowded and all maps were set up for snipers.
I bought MW2 and found myself play MW1 the next day.

Just to show you how substandard critical journalism in gaming is:
ALL of these pre-release reviews were done in an environment paid for by the publisher, on provided hardware in a setting created to maximize how positively they viewed the game experience. All on XBox360s.
For an actual critical review of the flaws of the game, particularly the PC release and a comparison to the multiplayer of its predecessor on that platform, try Ars Technica’s review. It’s a weekend rental on the 360, great single player fun for 7 hours then you’re done. Anyone used to the multiplayer experience of MW1 on PC doesn’t need to bother actually buying the thing. MW1 MP is still better in every regard.

What a disapointing game for the single player………Compleated in 5 hours and left think ‘Why all the hype’ …..If you don’t play on line it’s not worth the cost.

The game is good, but it’s not quite as good as World at War. This game’s multiplayer mode is pretty good as well, but there are a few maps that aren’t really up to par. The worst map, without a doubt, is Afghan. And there is nothing even comparable to Nazi Zombies. The Special Ops mode is alright i guess, but it isnt really all that fun. A lot of the scenarios are very unrealistic, not to say Nazi Zombies is realistic, but at least Nazi Zombies was extremely fun and pretty intense. The Special Ops mode was somewhat of a disappointment. The campaign, well it was exciting, but very short. And online, its alright but it is basically a bunch of people running around firing fully auto weapons. Basically whoever starts shooting first gets the kill, there’s no challenge as with the wide range of weapons like in World at War. It’s like all of the weapons in MW2 are the same thing, with a different look. Maybe Call of Duty should stick to WWII based games. Although, if the rumored Vietnam game came out as COD7, that would be pretty insane. One last thing, the NVG’s that came with the prestige edition.. well i dont care if they came from Jakk’s Pacific, they are some sweet goggles, and you can see very well out of them. Impressive. Overall i would give this game an 8/10.

unfortunately, no matter how much of an amazing game this is, they’ve taken down the multiplayer max players to 18, which is a console thing. so i dont think ill be playing this at the next i series, also i don’t think that it will even touch Cs source. As counterstrike is still the worlds largest online FPS.
Overall what i’ve seen and played, an immense game it indeed is. But only going to be the second best game ![]()

Captain jack, I have the same problem getting MP to work. Do you hughsnet?
If so, it wont work at all, you might be able to start a madden game but it will lag horribly. You need a cable or dsl connection. satellite internet connections dont work.

By far the best game i’ve ever played. People say this is a nice military game and I say BS, I am in the military and have been deployed to IRAQ and let me tell you it is nothing like this game but I simply dont care because yes it is just a game and to all you PC haters shut up and go play WOW or something, im sick and tired of seeing PC whiners in every MW2 review…I give it a 10/10 hands down. Thanx Infinity Ward

Modern warfare 2 seems to be the most anticipated game since Kingdom Hearts. Truly, i must say, i’ve dabbled in the Modern warfare community, but never actually managed to get myself a copy. I have yet to own a ps3 or a 360 being a strict PC fan. I am currently in the progress of funding the PS3 im getting, and to pay for Kingdom Hearts 3. This game looks as though it will be come a must have though. Besides the unique experiences, how is the in game feel? Cool environments? No pixels showing?
