Shocker: Madonna not endorsing McCain

By Jimmy Orr | 08.25.08

Who would have thought it? Pop singer Madonna is not a fan of John McCain. The British press (and plenty of US, news outlets, too) is reporting that Madonna is bringing the US presidential campaign into her new tour.

McCain appeared at the kick-off of her “Sweet and Sticky” tour last night. Well, kinda. His photo was presented. Trouble is, it appeared with Adolf Hitler and Robert Mugabe, (Zimbabwe’s dictator) in video footage filled with images of destruction.

On the other hand, Barack Obama was presented alongside of Mahatma Ghandi, Al Gore ,and John Lennon - which probably tips her hand on who she is supporting.

The photo collages ran during her song, “Get Stupid.”

The rest of the show, according to the San Francisco Chronicle was vintage Madonna:

Sequins, fishnets, and bondage-style outfits drawn from the 3,500 items of clothing reportedly whipped together by 36 designers specifically for the tour.

The response from the McCain team? Spokesman Taylor Griffin simply said, “Celebrities stick together.”

Late yesterday, another McCain spokesman was a little more heated in his response.

“The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time,” said Tucker Bounds. “It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits.”

I guess the truth hurts.

Really Tucker Bounds? What about the trash-and-burn ADs you and McCain’s other campaign members? They are not outrageous, unacceptable, and crudely divisive all at the same time??? Your ADs clearly show that when it comesto supporting John McCain, his fellow Republicans naionwide refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits! What’s the matter, Tucker Bounds, McCain and you guys love to dish it out and you cannot take it when it is dished out at McCain?? McCain and gang are really hypocrites, slanderers, and liars! Madonna is calling it RIGHT!

3. joann | 08.25.08

Who care what Madonna thinks? Will she even bother to vote, seeing as how she lives in England and has for some time.

4. wolf | 08.25.08

Actually, they’re not so far off on one respect: Adolf Hitler once said, ‘The bigger the lie, the more people will believe it.’ Considering all the junk being thrown at Obama - That he’s a closet-Muslim, terrorist, not a natural citizen, etc. - well, one tends to wonder.

5. Elaine | 08.25.08

Oh boo hoo, McCain doesn’t have celebrity followers, that a lot of crap, he has celeb’s who are supporting him as well. i am tired of the smears from both sides, how about telling me what you are going to do when u get into office, like the war, the econmomy, how am i gonna save my house, my job, my car, stuff like that, and what about these so call rebates, if you owe any money you don’t get those checks, tell me something good for a change of pace.

6. evan | 08.25.08

pardon my french, but madonna is a *****. there’s no way i’m voting for mccain, but he was tortured serving our country. how about a little respect? if mccain is hitler, she’s mrs. hitler.

7. Mr. Mike | 08.25.08

“It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits.”

But Corsi’s book of lies and innuendo against Obama are perfectly acceptable to Mr. Bounds, I’m sure. What comes around goes around, Tucker.

8. jake longhorn | 08.25.08

maddona is really a class act like most of her lefty celebrity friends.
god help is if obama gets into office. tax, tax, tax, spend, spend, spend
and put in great healthcare system like canada:)

9. US Voter | 08.25.08

Who cares about a 50-year-old hagster ?

No one !

Show us some young things, not Cher - botox, lipo’ed has-beens.

10. PFJ | 08.25.08

This is hillarious after watching slander ad after slander ad that McCain has put out. We now see conservatives crying foul?! LOL!!! And again today the big news is that some Reggaton star is backing McCain yet the conservatives are complaining about Madonna?! where were the conservatives to whine about celebrities when they were election Reagan, Schwarzenneger, Clint Eastwood, Sonny Bono and even Gopher of the love boat to office?! what is it the conservatives say again? WHERE’S THE OUTRAGE! LOL!!! These people felt it was no problem Slandering JOhn Kerry and attacking his service record but cry foul when it happens to McCain. the conservatives attack Kerry for having a wealthy Wife, but find it offensive when similar attacks are made about McCain being married to a beer heiress?!!

Sorry people the Conservative movement has become a laughing stock of never ending hypocrisy!!!

11. mbrane | 08.25.08

“You need to have a sense of humor.” This is what McCain said on Corsi’s book of lie… on Obama. We are back a full circle…

Even though I do not agree with Madonna’s message, McCain is a war monger and he wants more war. Iraq, Iran and now with Russia. The comparison with Robert Mugabe is not far off.

12. johnk | 08.25.08

I thought I did have a sense of humor. What does this mindless pig know anyway?

13. …….. | 08.25.08

Anyone who thinks that McCain comparing Obama to Paris Hilton is the same as Madonna comparing McCain to someone who murdered over 6 million people is an idiot, plain and simple. Anyone who compares someone to Hitler loses all credibility (or in Madonna’s case, demonstrates that they never had any in the first place).

I’m sick of musicians who think that people want to come to their concerts to be told who they should vote for. If I want a political lecture I’ll go listen to someone who has the qualifications to give such a lecture, not some AARP card-toting pop star who is so full of plastic that she’d melt if she got too close to a radiator.

14. foyhasi | 08.25.08

im tired of hearing about how he was a POW…

and I’m also tired of people saying (no offense) “i am tired of the smears from both sides, how about telling me what you are going to do when u get into office, like the war, the econmomy, how am i gonna save my house, my job, my car, stuff like that”.

If you have been paying attention, these questions have been covered by both candidates:

Basically, if you like war and make over $250,000/year, if you enjoy spending $5/gallon for gas and dont care about the environment, you would likely vote for McCain.

If you make less than $250,000/year and are for peace talks before war, and ending the wars were in, and you’d rather be running your car on windpower than padding the pockets of big oil, you should vote for Obama.

its really very simple, the two men are like night and day on their policies and qualities as people.

15. Jason | 08.25.08

This is Madonna, the Long Island born woman who, in the course of a few months, developed and started speaking with a British accent. Of course, it miraculously disappeared when she was ridiculed for it in the press. Celebrity endorsements mean squat - look at who Hollywood supports. With very few exceptions all are in vocal support of the left. Big surprise - all those multi-millionaires who fly around in private jets and live in 10,000 sq ft homes cry about Joe everyman who drives an SUV with his family instead of in a Prius. They all pretend to represent the average American all the while complaining that the color of the M&Ms in their bowl at the concert were not all green so they throw a hissy fit. The general populace knows this and couldn’t give a rat’s ass as to who they are supporting. Madonna sings, and lately that has been questionable, her opinions concerning elections mean nothing and just symbolize her ignorance and outright stupidity when she compares the right to the likes of Hitler. The woman just made it through high school, she has no education. Her success comes from her voice, nothing else.

16. Johannes | 08.25.08

Obama and McCain are both as bad as each other, just in different ways. I have nothing good to say about either of them. At least Hitler loved dogs.

17. tammons | 08.25.08

Is there anyone out there who doesn’t realize what a train wreck Madonna is? What she did was tacky, crude, unacceptable–more of the same from her, right? She’s much like a young child–act out as much as you can for attention. Maybe if we ignore her, she will stop the madness. I for one refuse to pay her one bit of attention. She is a disgrace to which ever candidate she chooses to support–so, is McCain really upset that she’s not on his side?? The absolute best thing for this country is for each individual to do their homework, find out all the facts–the true facts–you can about the person you want to vote for. Don’t be swayed by stupid celebrities or pretty political speeches. Know the facts–it’s your responsiblity to know the facts. Would you really let the likes of Madonna choose our next president?

18. Scott | 08.25.08

Madonna is old waste. If she were supporting McCain I would have to take a double take. I am glad the all the fake thin people who have no ability to think for themselves are flocking to Obama and they will lose with Obama. Obama is owned by these people he might as well put on his French Maid costume and get on his knees.

All you people hooting for someone like Madonna who left this country and hates it? I am sure England will take more of you. Good bye you will not be missed at all.

19. Joe | 08.25.08

As McCain said “gotta have a sense of humor”!

I don’t like the insinuation that he’s Obama is a know-nothing while McCain is “old and wise” when he’s not. McCain was nearly a drop-out in the military (bottom 5 of a class of about 900), he crashed 5 planes (only one of them in combat) and made his fortune by marrying rich and saying “I was a POW!” to anyone who questioned his political credentials (especially back when he joined the Senate).

Obama was the child of a poor, single mother. He managed to work his way through Harvard. He didn’t put his race on his application because he didn’t want to be chosen because of Affirmative Action. He was near the top of his class and president of the Harvard Law Review.

Obama worked his way up. McCain clung to his parents’ coattails (daddy was an Admiral).

20. Ivan Boatwright Jr. | 08.25.08

In war and politics truth is always the first casulity. I do not remember who said it but he is right. Bush and his people have elevated lies to a new high.

21. Joe | 08.25.08

> Anyone who compares someone to Hitler loses all credibility

I hope you said that when that book of lies about Obama came out, too. Remember how McCain said “gotta keep your sense of humor!”

But McCain “didn’t hear” the question. Even when it was repeated back to him. And answered it anyhow.

22. reniam | 08.25.08

Madonna. She’s so washed up she should be doing Tide commercials.

23. Mike | 08.25.08

Madonna? Could there be anyone more irrelevant? She, and her fake British accent hold absolutely no meaning to the American elections. Forget her, most of the world has.

24. Been there | 08.25.08

I can’t believe all you folks who don’t have lives. Learn to read.

25. PFJ | 08.25.08

LOL its sad to see the pathetic Conservative activists here trying to defend the McCain Hypocrisy. But its even funnier to see them on a name callin marathon of Madonna. I lawyer friend once told me that if you have no real arguments Attack Character. I guess that’s why the Conservative Mantra Is “Character Matters”

26. johnk | 08.25.08

When these Hollywood types get together and smoke their pot and crack and snort their nose candy, they dream about a one world government with one leader (Obama maybe?). They hate the traditional middle class America, it’s morals, it’s traditions and everything it and conservatives stand for. And when I say conservatives I am talking about both Republican and Democrat. They hate them too. They want a socialist system like the Europeans, or the Russians. And don’t think for one minute that Communism in the United States is dead. It’s capital is right in California. Where is McCarthy when you need him. Someday people will realize he wasn’t so wrong. Too many people are afraid to say that. I’m not. Given the opportunity, they will destroy the U.S. Government as it currently exists and impliment a communist, socialist system. I, by the way am a very everyday down to earth working American. I blog very little and am not the slighest bit radical.
JohnK Ormond Fl

27. Sarah | 08.25.08

You go Elaine! THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT! I’m definately conservative but McCain’s got to quit with all the slandering,

I don’t care to hear about what a horrible person Obama is, I want to know what he’ll be doing if he gets into office, not that I’m old enough to vote anyway.

Mudslinging doesnt work, why cant polititions pull their heads out?

28. Deaner | 08.25.08

Think about it, would you want the endorsement of a pathetic,50 year old teen idol wannabe?
What else can she do to try and stay in the public eye?
She tried to latch onto Britney Spears’ star a few years back(disgusting), and even now a married baseball player. Pretty soon she’ll be faking her own illness or kidnapping just for attention.
Better she’s in the Barry Obama camp.

29. Stephen | 08.25.08

The definition of washed up does not include an artist who has toured and played to full houses and stadiums for a quarter century now. Republicans are all about money being power, well, Madonna should be their dream girl. I know she’s mine, calling an old war monger out for what he is, a war monger oblvious to, and obstinante about, all the innocent Iraquis whose lives have been lost. More like Hitler than anyone will admit to, except Madonna.

30. Matt | 08.25.08

LOL the world has not forgotten about Madonna. Her single “4 MInutes” was #1 in over 20 counties just a few weeks ago! Plus, her concert before this one was the highest grossing female concert of all time!

She’s totally relevant and she still has tons of fans and is still making #1 hits!

31. JS | 08.25.08

>>>”Obama is owned by these people”
Close, Obama is owned by THE people; at least more so than McSame who is owned by the lobbyists, big money, all the New World Order people [Rothschilds, Bildebergers, Trilats, etc.] and those like Bush who believe the Constitution is just an inconvenient “piece of paper”. McSame, it seems, has also learned all to well to lie - from the Bush administration - based on the campaign ads I have seen which are in direct conflict with any truth. The bottom line, IMHO, is that anyone who has to run on the negatives of an opponent rather than the positives of what they have to offer has nothing of any value to offer in the first place and is undeserving of any vote. That’s just for those of you people out there who have really not quite had enough over the last 8 years.

32. Haniel | 08.25.08

The funniest comment I have read here is the one about Joe McCarthy. Wow, McCain drags them ALL out of their holes, doesn’t he?! Hilarious!

33. George Edward | 08.25.08

Two tickets ($350.00) to Madonna concert; shredded; and flushed down the toilet.

Made me feel better than I’ve felt in a long time!

34. Dave | 08.25.08

People still listen to Madonna?

35. Shelly | 08.25.08

Jason - Madonna was born in Michigan not Long Island.

I agree, McCain’s military record has been questioned. Some of you should research that. He’s playing the “I am a tortured POW act”. That’s really sad b/c how does that help our country in the long run.

36. rick | 08.25.08

Madonna is a waste of oxygen, as are quite a few entertainers. Neither candidate is up to the task of bringing the US out of its hole. I’d rather see Ron Paul as President. Social medical care will bankrupt the US. The UK and Canada prove that issue. Put welfare recipients to work, stop social security and welfare payments to those who haven’t paid into the system, make English the official language, outlaw the flying of any other flag than the American flag, no amnesty to illegals, bring our troops home, start spending on education and not corporate bailouts and war, get over the abortion issue, enact extremely harsh punishments for white collar criminals.

37. John | 08.25.08

Yeah, truth hurts. The truth about celebrities is that yes, they do stick together but they are also extremely wealthy people. So why wouldn’t they vote Republican? The answer is because they are the most traveled people in society and they are out there seeing the world as a whole, not just one little tiny community. John McCain…great guy 50 years ago but not suitable as president now. He’s an old rich white guy. Are you an old rich white guy? If so, you should vote for him. If you are anything else, you should vote for Barack. We will get the change our sad country needs.

38. Rob | 08.25.08

Nobama is as empty and worthless as the ENTERTAINERS that support him, which include most. These ENTERTAINERS have been trying with all their might over the past two elections to get a democrat elected to the White House, and they are trying once again. I can only pray that these socialist zealots will once again lose, as America can not afford the taxes to be levied against her should Nobama take office. If you uninformed lemmings are worried about your jobs, house payments, and credit cards now, what are you going to do when your taxes go up? Rejoice? Deposit a smaller paycheck with a smile?

What are your priorities? Education? Healthcare? National security? Giving Nobama a chance is giving a fence-riding, Congress-absent senator the green light to change the United States of America into the UASR - the Union of American Socialist Republic. No thanks, no how, no way.

BTW, Nobama’s veep is a war mongerer who believed in the re-upping the Patriot Act. Heaven forbid Nobama get elected, as we will not only continue our battles around the world, but make more war. A lack of Democratic-led intelligence resulted in 09/11/2001, and more of the same will do worse. Get real, or get lost.

39. john noonan | 08.25.08

Regardless of who you support, I doubt too many people with an IQ worth mentioning really care who Madonna supports.

40. rob | 08.26.08

Fact is that whenever celebrities get involved in politics working class Americans get screwed over. There needs to be a law banning celebs from participating in politics and to ban them from endorsing anyone. They are only for people who are rich just like them.

41. John | 08.26.08

This has been taken out of context.Madonna’s images were a montage conveying an overall point of view. It wasn’t a personal attack on John McCain.

42. Eric | 08.26.08

Well the name of the song in question i assume is Give It To Me, which has an interlude part that goes Get Stupid. Also assume most outlets reporting on the story haven’t seen the show.

43. david | 08.26.08

american politics has certainly devolved. all about advertising and slander, it is surreal and should no longer be taken seriously by anyone. it is best ignored.

does anyone in america really feel like their one vote counts toward any one concrete and signficant change they would like to see occur? …no chance.

throw out the entire electoral system and replace it with something serious.

44. Tom | 08.26.08

My god she looks more old everytime I see a picture of her

45. Susha | 08.26.08

I have never voted for a republican in my life (22 years of voting). But since his video “The One”, I’ve gained a whole new respect for McCain. He’s a freakin’ genius. Anyone who could turn an almost “Messiah” into an “Antichrist”, has some seriously DEEP political experience, just think about that… That, more than anything revealed one thing to me, this man KNOWS Americans. He knows how we think and more than that, what makes us STOP and think. If America can’t deal that he is actually more in tune with us than his younger opponent, that’s fine. But for the first time, I am backing a republican, that to me means one thing, the democrats voted in “The Wrong One”. Now if only Daddy Yankee could actually VOTE, then we’d be getting somewhere.

46. Susha | 08.26.08

John McCain just struck back twice. He is far more in tuned of young Americans than his opponent.

1) Internet as opposed to TV paid advertisement:

It displays an ability to save money and yet get your message across by the MODERN means of communication.

2) Was able to kill 2 birds with one stone by acknowledging a Latino and getting major press while the democrats were busy “doing their thing”.

The man must be a chess player. He is able to allow his opponent to move, then he (with the strategic thought a president should have) is able to top his opponents last move.

Sorry, he is more experienced and in tune with the American people on all levels than his opponent.

“What?!”
“WHAT?!”
“Daddy Yankee, yo’”

Need I say more.

ROTFLOL…Madonna?! Now THAT’S OLD!

McCain 1, Obama 0

2)McCain displays hi

47. C. Casperson | 08.26.08

Madonna has no morals whatsoever so go figure…

48. Anlala | 08.26.08

Madonna is a performer, just like Rush Limbaugh. They each get one vote, just like each American gets one vote. They can say (evidently) whatever they want, but that doesn’t mean we have to follow like sheep. Not sure why we insist on giving celebrities power they wouldn’t otherwise have. And just to clarify, neither Obama nor McCain are “celebrities;” they are politicians. It’s our responsibility as voters to get all the facts and make intelligent choices as to who best will serve us, not react with emotion to performers who are making artistic (yes, I realize that’s up for debate) or biased personal statements.

49. dragonfly777 | 08.26.08

LOL! Who cares what Madonna thinks. This a woman who wears her underwear on the outside, slinks an slimes her #ss and T#ts, T#ts and #ss. Her sticky and sweet should be called slimy and sour.
