McCain - Palin: Don’t stick a fork in us yet!
By Jimmy Orr | 10.06.08
The McCain campaign received some good news today. The study released this morning that showed one in four mammals are in danger of becoming extinct did not include the McCain-Palin ticket.
Despite low polling numbers, no one is yet sticking a fork in the duo. In fact, the Obama campaign would say the most prominent fork on the campaign trail today is Sarah Palin’s tongue.
Overdrive
The Republican nominee for vice president was on full throttle in Florida on Monday, making it a three-day assault on Barack Obama’s character.
Some would argue that Palin’s new stump speech is basically a noun, a verb, and a “Barack hangs out with terrorists.”
If that’s the case, she revised it today to add in a “he’s not telling the truth,” as Palin amped up her already incendiary speech.
“Barack Obama says that Ayers was just someone in the neighborhood,” Palin said. “But that’s less than truthful. His own top advisor said that they were, quote, ‘certainly friendly.’ In fact, Obama held one of the first meetings of his political career in Bill Ayers’s living room. And they’ve worked together on various projects in Chicago.”
Weathermen
Palin was, of course, discussing former Weather Underground co-founder Bill Ayers. Ayers held a fundraiser for Obama back in 1995 and served on a board with him. The Obama campaign continues to deny any significant relationship between their candidate and Ayers – always including a list of media outlets which have concluded their affiliation was slight.
No matter. The strategy is to attack. And to cast doubt in the minds of the undecideds.
Bad polls
But according to a new CNN poll, the Republican ticket is going to have to sway some already-decideds as well.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Monday afternoon shows 53 percent of likely voters will support Obama while 45 percent prefer John McCain.
According to the poll, McCain’s Achilles heel appears to be plural, as both President Bush and his running mate are bringing him down.
Only 24 percent polled approve of President Bush’s performance. If that sounds low – it is. Think Nixon low.
“Bush has now tied Richard Nixon’s worst rating ever, taken in a poll just before he resigned in 1975, and is only 2 points higher than the worst presidential approval rating in history, Harry Truman’s 22 percent mark in February 1952,” said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
Moose hunt
As for Palin, 40 percent of those polled have an unfavorable view of the vice presidential nominee and a majority do not believe she is qualified for the office of the presidency, if needed.
Unfortunately for the McCain campaign, the polling was done after the vice presidential debate.
Nothing to see here
No need to panic, say many Republicans. The campaign is not an out-of-control train. Rather, they have a two-pronged strategy to win over voters.
GOP strategist Rob Stutzman told The Vote that the McCain campaign is doing what they have to do to get the polls to swing back in their favor – put Palin on the attack while allowing McCain to “connect.”
“Using Palin to deliver the cultural attacks is perfectly sensible,” he said. “But while she’s hunting for voters who will have doubts bout Obama and his friends, McCain needs to be truly connecting with swing voters over their economic anxiety. They need to look at him and see someone who is relentless in defining a pro-growth, tax-cutting, and job-creating agenda and create an alternative to an all-liberal-all-the-time power structure in Washington.”

McCain’s friend, unrepentant G. Gordon Liddy spent more than 4 years in prison for the 72 Watergate burglary. Far from repudiating him, McCain has embraced him.
In 1998, Liddy’s home was the site of a McCain fundraiser. He has made at least 4 contributions totaling $5,000 to the McCain’s campaigns, including $1,000 this year.
Nov 07, McCain went on his radio show. Liddy greeted him as “an old friend” McCain said. “I’m proud of you, I’m proud of your family,” he gushed. “It’s always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.”
Liddy proposed to kidnap anti-war activists so they couldn’t disrupt the 1972 RNC. He planned the murder (never carried out) of an unfriendly newspaper columnist

Sarah Palin and ‘first dudes’ political alliance with a terrorist who was murdered in 1993 during “a plastic explosives sale gone bad.”
“The fires of **** are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government… And I won’t be buried under their damn flag,” - Joe Vogler in 1991, Founder of the Alaska Independence Party.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwvPNXYrIyI
Sarah congratulates the secession party only 6 months ago on their political gains.
Her husband, Todd, was a member the Alaskan Independence Party working for Alaska to secede from the United States. The director of Division of Elections in Alaska reported that Todd Palin registered in October 1995 to the Alaska Independence Party, a radical group that advocates for Alaskan secession from the United States, and remained a member until 2002, when he registered as undeclared while his wife ran for office.

I’m confused. The economy goes bad and that INCREASES Obama’s chances to win??? Why - during such critical changes - would we vote for an inexperienced, JUNIOR senator who has voted “present” most of his career and gives new meaning to “flip-flop”? Give me the older, stable, decisive, wiser guy anyday (and I’m a lifelong gay Democrat!)!

As someone who has written critically of John McCain on a host of issues, including the Keating Five, none of it compares to the life that Barack Obama has led and his belief system. Obama is not merely associated with domestic terrorists, Palestinian radicals, Marxists, and black liberation ideologues — he was their favorite candidate. They groomed him. They befriended him. He befriended them. He socialized with them. In other words, these people saw Obama as representing their views and aspirations and he saw them the same way. I am not among those who raise Obama’s associations but add “of course, it doesn’t mean Obama shares their views.” Oh really? These miscreants include Obama’s former pastor, political mentors and allies, and friends. Obama attempts to downplay and distance himself from his own circle of allies now that he is running for president. But he is one of them. Obama is getting a pass that no other candidate in my memory has ever received.
If John McCain had belonged to a church for 20 years and that church advocated white supremacy and the pastor of the church spewed racist propaganda wrapped in Biblical verses — much of which was caught on video-tape — what would we say? If McCain’s good friends included people involved in blowing up abortion clinics instead of the Capitol Building, the Pentagon, and police stations, what would we say? If McCain was socially close to a professor with ties to neo-Nazi groups in Berlin, as opposed to a professor who had ties to the PLO, what would we say? If McCain spent his formative years schooled in fascism as opposed to Marxism, what would we say?
Every time Obama’s life experiences and character are raised, the response is a diversionary tactic. Today, we’re supposed to be impressed with the moral equivalency argument (Ayers = Keating Five), or Obama’s associations and friendships aren’t what they appear to be, or Obama really isn’t like all those people he drew around him, or those raising these issues are guilty of McCarthyism. There are 30 days left in this election. It’s high time the Obama fan-dance ended.
Instead of addressing the accusations of associating with terrorist,
Obama reacts like a terrorist by threatening all who dare to criticize or challenge him.

Most people I know, who may even like McCain, cannot stomach this Palin character. She was a terrible, terrible choice for John to make. Even if an American wants McCain, voting for him means supporting this Palin person, who no one really believes has the brains or class to run this country should McCain die in office. I think that’s where he made his mistake, and I think it will cost him the election. This latest attack by Palin, who accuses Obama of being a terrorist, is truly disgusting and divisive. No one is going to believe that, and it just makes McCain look desperate. When Obama wins, everyone will know he did it by overcoming such nasty personal attacks. He will be greatly admired and respected here, just like he is admired and respected all over the world. I’m voting Obama/Biden. I wouldn’t waste my vote on McCain/Palin. Voting for them is cynical and sad.

Casting doubts about Palin seems to the the media’s main intent. with the exception og Fox news and a very few news mags the entire media seems to be on the obama payroll and currently only Palin seems to be the thorn in their side.
As for these polls in which 700 democrats held (Usually black communities)and 250 republicans who they are voting for is not any indication of who is ahead.
9. Edie | 10.06.08
McCain is out of control and desperate to do anything. He largely disqualified himself when he picked Palin as his VP. He has been known to say that he likes to make quick decisions and live with it if it’s the wrong one. We’ll that’s fine for your own decisons but not one that would affect the country and 300 million Americans!!

McCain/Palin ticket Created the mess they are in right now. Reading hundreds of comments on several blogs, I have concluded that I am not alone in believing that McCain’s tactics and erratic behavior erased all the lead he had after his convention. Today republicans wish he had picked Mitt Romney as a running mate. In these economic times he would have bolstered the ticket way more than Sarah Palin, who in fact with all her good intentions is not what the Americans want in the white house during this crisis. Panic or not John McCain has only 12.5% chance of winning this race based on all the calculations I have been able to find.
11. Darby O’Gill | 10.06.08
Gov. Palin will have some explaining to do later this week instead of pitbull trash-talking about future President Obama. The Alaska legislature’s Troopergate Probe report is due to be released. I am guessing it will contain a few things for her to explain such as: witness tampering, illegal use of state funds, violation of state personnel privacy laws, misuse of state employees, and even obstruction of justice. Wink your way out of this one cutesy Sarah. You betcha !!
12. JawDropping | 10.06.08
I cannot believe the anti-Obama comments here, these are the most ridiculous, ludicrous, paranoid fear mongering claims I have ever read. If these things are so terrifying, so threatening to our lives as Americans, how come no respected news outlet has commented on them? How come even McSame hasn’t called on them? How about the fact that every fact check done about Ayers-Obama has come back reading, “they are not even friends?”
Scared much, Republicans?

Give me the guy who loves America over the “Alaska should secede from the Union” America HATERS any day!
Give me the guy who disassociates from questionable characters over the guy who deals with (Keating) and hugs it out with (Libby) any day!
I say, vote for the ticket that LOVES America. Vote for the ticket that’s for the PEOPLE, not special interest groups like BIG OIL. Vote for the ticket that’s not in the early stages of dementia (McCain) or completely demented (Palin).
VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN!

I’m sick of hearing about Obama’s inexperience.
He spent 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, became the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, created a voter registration drive that registered 150,000 new voters, spent 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spent 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, became chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spent 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 152 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees.
HE HAS EXPERIENCE…if you’re going to vote, base your decisions on their policies…not on all these smears back and forth.
15. Martin Willis | 10.06.08
The liberal press has not been telling us the truth about Obama because they are in bed with him. Obama’s most troubling connection is with Acorn, who he used to work for. Acorn is part of the financial mess because they pressured (an understatement) banks to make risky loans. Also, they have been accused of voter fraud in sevreal states.
16. IIell | 10.06.08
Thomas Powell wrote, “There is a lawsuit that challenges Obama’s eligibility to be president, he will not provide the needed papers to prove he is eligible, thus the reason for the lawsuit. Why has not Senator McCain challenged this,it seems pretty important.I have other paperwork that list his connections with Muslims some radicals, why is this not being discussed? This is not a personal attack on Obama, but a concern for our country as his allegiance is called into question in his various writings.
Thomas Powell”
Sir, you are an idiot. Barak Obama has all the documents to show he was born in America and has citizenship.

Dear gaypastor, AMEN to you!
I am also gay and Christian but have never voted gay issues exclusively. But, ya know, after learning that neither Obama or Mccain support gay marriage (which I only half heartedly support myself-but don’t want to deny others of their happiness) I am giving my vote to McCain.

Let’s see, Palin is linking Obama to terrorists while she willingly associates with war criminals from the same era and is even giddy about meeting Kissenger? Palin - dumber than Bush and as for McCain he’s against the government but his family has been feeding at the public teat for four generations - talk about hipocrasy!

Stable?!? Decisive?!? Maybe you should come out of the closet more often. Here we are again stuck choosing between the lesser of two evils to run our country. Neither are a good choice. But “Maverick” is far from stable, as witnessed by his numerous poor choices.

While it’s true he’s older, I’m going to have to call BS on the stable (snort!!), decisive and finally, wiser (??!?!!?) labels.
Have you been out of town for the last 3 months? Have you not seen the depths to which this McCain fraud is willing to sink to get himself elected. Please, girlfriend. Just, please.
Oh, I know now!!!! You must have a “Daddy” thing going on!! How could I not have seen that? Nevermind. Carry on.

I’m amazed at the vitriol of the McCain supporters. They hav enoting, nada to say in support of Sen. McCain, just lots of rumor and inuendo about Sen. Obama. The typical Republican smear campaign, only this time they are trying to climb out of a huge and growing electoral college deficit. Even Ohio, whcih any Republican candidate needs to win, is tied and moving toward Obama.
gaypastor writes: “The economy goes bad and that INCREASES Obama’s chances to win???” You betcha!! More and more intelligent, smart americans are realizing that Sen. McCain and the Republican philosophy of constant de-regulation is exactly what created today’s financial meltdown and pending world-wide recession. If that weren’t bad enough, Sen. McCains health plan, tax employer provided benefits and provide a voucher, will bring ther same chaos to health care that we are seeing in the banking industry.
Every day’s bad financial news just creates more votes for Sen. Obama.

When will the media start talking about McCain being a traitor and committing treason against the USS Liberty and the sailors who were willfully and brutally attacked and murdered by Israel. McCain steps way aside when it is mentioned. His father, Admiral McCain, turned his back on those U.S. men. McCain, himself, admitted in his own book that he had talked to the Vietcong during his imprisonment and received medical care that no other soldier would have been permitted because the VC recognized who McCain’s father was. John McCain talks about honor, but has shown a dark side when it comes to honoring true heroes. John McCain voted against U.S. soldiers receiving supplies and equipment. He voted against entering Afghanistan, where the true enemy was and is. John McCain is no friend to the U.S. military.
31. Spencer | 10.06.08
So every person Obama has served on a board with, shared a common interest with or lived near is now a “close friend” and he must share their views on everything, no matter what he has said or how his actions back up his words?
Get real people. I serve on a volunteer board with a number of people whose political views I do not share - that does not make them great influences on my personal views of political, moral or policy matters. In the Senate over the past 26 years, McCain has served on a number of different committees with a wide variety of Democrats - does that make him a Democrat? Hardly.
Check your facts on Ayers - Obama has attended some board meetings at which Ayers was either a speaker or member of the board, and he attended a function at Ayers house with a number of other Democrats. That’s not exactly the same as McCain’s stepping over the line for Charles Keating. Once again, when the Republicans find themselves behind in the polls, fear mongering becomes the favored path.
32. Ejidatario | 10.06.08
Creeps come in all flavors and all backgrounds. OJ Simpson was a great athlete and a sports hero that does not make him a good guy today.
Same as McCain was a “war hero” that does not make him a good guy today.
All politicians say half truths, McCain lies directly from his straight Talk Express.
It amazes me when I see people that I think are smart support such busload of B.S.
33. Just the facts | 10.06.08
@gaypastor. Keep in mind, those votes for ‘most of his career’ were in the IL state senate, and amounted to 3% of his total votes. You can’t vote present in the US senate.
That’s neither most of his career, nor most of his votes. Get your facts straight, before voting. Source: http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/how_many_times_did_obama_vote_present.html
He is preferred on economic matters as McCain admittedly doesn’t understand the economy, and has made many mis-steps already (Said it was sound while it was plummeting amongst many other blunders). More importantly, Democrats in general are preferred for economic matters, remember Clinton, the greatest economic growth in world history…
That, and when you take McCain’s ‘trickle down’ tax plan, which is similar to Bush’s, along with the Economic plan that even Greenspan (a McCain supporter) disagrees with, things don’t look good. McCain’s plan for the economy plans lots of tax cuts with little revenue increases (taxes), the only way to achieve that is to lower spending, drastically (15%+ again if I’m not mistaken). We’re not talking about his $18B earmarks here (he mis-stated them at near $100B, another boo-boo), were talking wide sweeping cuts across the board in the discretionary budget, unfortunately he’s not commenting on the specifics, but this could include highway improvement, veterans affairs, as well as educational spending, or severe cuts to select few of this budgets.
Did I mention the richest man in America, Warren Buffet is an Obama supporter, and supports raising taxes on the Rich?
35. Matt | 10.06.08
You know, you really can tell a lot more about people when you see them under stress. And Republicans everywhere are definitely under stress - and their response is a descent into small mindedness, lack of principal, lies, bigotry, religious charlatanism, a morbid fascination with reproductive issues, hysteria and endless blaming and whining about how nothing’s their fault even though they’ve held a majority in Congress for ten years and the presidency for eight (so much for personal responsibility!!!)
Fortunately, the majority of voters are having none of it. Though truly, the only way we could ever be truly sure this party which has devolved into nothing less than a vast criminal conspiracy disappears onto the ash heap of history is if Sarah Palin becomes President. Because nothing, but nothing has exposed their dishonesty more than looking the voters in the face and declaring that this woman is fit to be President of the United States.
The sooner these awful people are gone, the sooner we can start to live again like normal people, instead of having our national discourse dominated by these bigoted, mean spirited crooks.
36. Dave | 10.06.08
Darlene: it’s still false, even if you believe it. Obama was a constitutional law professor at CHICAGO - the most conservative law school in the country. His colleagues admire and support him. He has Goolsbee as his chief economic advisor. We know that Obama is a thoughtful liberal. Unlike what passes for thought in the Republican party, Obama seeks out contrary opinions and tries to find the right path. I am moderately conservative and I think that some of Obama’s policies are wrong. but I’m more than happy to have him as my leader and Commander in Chief - he has demonstrated the capacity for good judgment. I’d rather have a President who makes good calls and looks back on them with pride than a risky choice like McCain, who can fly off into an emotionally driven mistake, and look back on it with regret.

The McCain and Palin strategy? Attack and defame rather than talk about plans or progress. Republicans fail to realize this is why he is losing the election…independents are tired of fear tactics. Right or wrong, the strategy of name-dropping and accusations are too reminiscent of the Bush campaign strategy in 2000 and 2004, especially so late in the election. Calling Obama’s patriotism into question is ridiculous and eerily similar to the swiftboating and “patriotic?” attacks of John Kerry.
No matter what your allegiance, it was a bad idea for McCain to replicate the Bush campaign in this time of crisis…virtually every recent poll will back me up on this. Instead of distancing himself from the Bush “attack his patriotism” strategy, McCain’s moves are looking more and more similar every day. And now it’s too late to reverse course.
If attack-dog Republicans wonder why they are losing the election, they need only to look in a mirror. No more of the same for me…and no, no matter what links you post, I do not believe this sitting US Senator is a terrorist or would ever support the ideals of terrorism, just as I will never believe John Kerry fighting along the rivers in Viet Nam was unpatriotic. Bigots beware, you are only serving to increase and solidify Obama support…keep up the fantastic work.

Senator McCain has demonstrated clearly during this campaign that he would not be the same as 4 more years of President Bush. He would be worse, much much worse. He’s proven to be rash, erratic and impulsive– something this Country definitely does NOT need right now. He’s shown to be “Country First” is a mere slogan when in fact, “Campaign First” is much more accurate.

McCain’s choice of strategy is very bizarre and looks like a recipe for complete defeat. However, Americans need to make him the next president because he is the most viable of the two big candidates. Obama’s supporters insist that he is the best candidate but have no factual reasons to back up their assertions. Truth be known, Obama is a Marxist. Again, McCain’s entire political career’s trackrecord is very bizarre and has looked like a recipe for wipeout. But in hindsight, he has actually been quite correct a good fraction of the time. The line-item veto was declared unconstitutional in 1998, but it needs to be tried again. The goal must be met; and there is no doubt a genuinely constitutional manner to get that goal. It has been the best chance in the history of the US to minimize pork. If anyone will push for that, it will be McCain not Obama. Obama, like Pelosi and Bush continue to accept, to uncomfortable degrees, bills that include all sorts of garbage regardless of how bad the budgeting is.

Mr. McCain and Mrs. Palin are losing the election. They have a choice of losing this election dishonorably or not. It is clear they are taking the lowest of the low roads with lies and dirty tricks. It is sad.
It is a bad strategy because the majority of Americans know these are lies and dirty smears and now it becomes not only immoral behavior, but also pathetic.
It is a bad strategy because people want to hear something substantive like how to deal with the economy and this financial tumble. People are worried and their retirement accounts are melting away. This petty behavior shows the self-absorbtion of the two players. Not good from any standpoint. It looks shrill and erratic.
It is a bad strategy because the language of lies that they are using provoke the worst in the human spirit. A meanness that evokes the worst of our culture. A meanness that evokes prejudice on a deep and nasty level with “otherness”, “fear”, and “racism”. This worse type of behavior in our American society given our history. It divides everyone with hate. This is in front of our children and in front of the world. It is dirty and it is being done by people who call themselves born again Christians. The implications are shocking.
It is a bad strategy because these lies will not help Mr. McCain and Mrs. McCain win. The country has already turned and turned enough so. They are losing and will lose with dishonor. Their bad behavior increases the honor of their foes and increases the honor of all of us who will not vote for them. We will feel cleaner and better about ourselves to look forward to those that inspire.

If a adulterer and confessed criminal has to “turn the page” on issues, and attack a guy like Obama on character…. well, you know that is desperation.
If Obama is such a bad guy, why is the only thing they could dig up on him so far-fetched?
Go read about Bill Ayers. Why isn’t he in prison?
Doesn’t it seem weird that a vehement anti-american “terrorist” would live in your average neighborhood on the nice side of town?

Our retirement plans are going down the drain and all McCain/Palin come up with are desperate lies, smears and hate speech. People need to know, for example, what McCain is going to do to Medicare. That is more important for the country
From the Wall St. Journal Oct. 6, 2008
McCain would pay for his health plan with major reductions to Medicare and Medicaid, a top aide said, in a move that independent analysts estimate could result in cuts of $1.3 trillion over 10 years to the government programs. The Republican presidential nominee has said little about the proposed cuts, but they are needed to keep his health-care plan “budget neutral,” as he has promised. The McCain campaign hasn’t given a specific figure for the cuts, but didn’t dispute the analysts’ estimate.
Furthermore McCain’s plan will tax employee health care benefits, deregulate the insurance industry guaranteeing that only wealthy and health people can get coverage.
44. Ron | 10.06.08
Funny thing about this whole character issue… you can’t find anyone who has actually worked with Senator Obama that has anything bad to say about his character. Quite the contrary, actually.
From his peers and professors of Harvard Law who chose him as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review to those worked with him on the Illinois Senate to those who work with him in the US Senate, the resounding opinion is that Senator Obama is an intelligent, compassionate, hard-working man with exceptional problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. These opinions are echoed by individuals of all political persuasions that have worked with the Senator.
What a shame then that this country is facing some of its largest challenges ever, and yet month away from the election, we’re allowing ourselves to be led along by partisan garbage designed to our eye off the ball.

“..the McCain campaign is doing what it has to do in order to..[regain] favor, put Palin on the attack, [etc.]..” So Palin today roused a crowd in FL by linking Obama to Ayers,a former domestic terrorist, as more than a past acquaintance, and someone called out “Kill him!” Gov. Palin didn’t counter either the speaker or the sentiment. I have no doubt that Obama, Biden or McCain would have stopped everything and immediately reprimanded such a borderline political-terrorist outcry. Pit bulls can kill, and if pit-bull-Palin’s attacks cause people to get so negatively charged they propose killing an opponent, she should be muzzled, or keep her fellow pit bulls in her audiences in check. Such hyper-negativity is not only irresponsible and unacceptable, it reflects badly on all Republicans.

Ask yourself this question…
If your mother, sister, wife, girlfriend, daughter, best friend, auntie or cousin was violently raped and became pregnant would you tell them to go through with the pregnancy and maybe even say because it’s God’s will? That’s what Sarah Palin and John McCain would want to have you do.
Sarah Palin opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest.
Sarah Palin even made women who were raped pay for their own test kits while she was Mayor of Wasilla. She even did it against Alaska law.
John McCain’s website says he “believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned.”
Both John McCain and Sarah Palin have demonstrated views that could cause them to make ALL abortions illegal.
That’s not the “Government get out of my way” that Sarah Palin talks about. That’s not being a maverick. That’s not real Christianity.
That’s called forcing your own judgment on people and telling people what to do. Even Jesus Christ would have never judged women like that.
Yes she has moxie and because of her blind ambition she will hurt women in general because she doesn’t care about women in general.
Sarah Palin’s extremely intolerant right wing views are a detriment to women and will put the women’s movement backwards by 40 years.

In One Lifetime
As a boy I had to wonder why people would risk death for the right to vote. And though I protested, my father exercised his good judgment forcing me to abandon my friends to watch the evening news whenever he knew a civil rights event would be the focus of the nightly broadcast. On non-eventful nights I was allowed to enjoy the careless responsibility of youth and play with my friends.
As an adult now, I am witness to history. In one lifetime I have witnessed the growth of this country as it tries to put into practice that old cliché, “anyone can be president”.
As a child anyone meant white men, But for the first time, as this country attempts to live up to its promise that all people are created equal, even a Black man or a woman can be president. Now times are different, and for every person that old cliché and the American promise are real.
The effects are everywhere. For the first time in 14 years of teaching inner city mostly African American youth, my students do not feel the nation needs to apologize for slavery. They don’t desire to hold my generation captive for the sins of those I have grown to despise. I suspect I, a white guy, am angrier than they are.

Obama is known BS. It’s just unfortunate that Obama’s intoxicated support base refuses to realize that he is very unknown to them. Oh well. If Obama loses in November, there will be race riots across the country. If he wins in November, he will be a single-term’r even though the liberal politicians and media will continue blaming an ever-growing disaster on Bush. This is unfortunate because at this time, the United States is in dire need of post-partisan behavior. Obama is far too extreme to provide that relief. McCain is so liberal, he would actually accomplish that relief. Without that relief, solid improvements in anything else do not look promising.

When you are drowning you do a couple things…
1st: You get paranoid and see and hear and think funny things!
2nd: You start to take in water and gag and choke and thrash about aimlessly!
3rd: You start to bob up and down in the water and Gulp and Gasp for air!
4th: You become desperate, and do anything to survive!
I think we can obviously see the signs of a candidate drowning! My guess is this is the reason why McFailin team is doing this. So just to make sure we keep things in perspective, GW Bush has with his radical actions become the single biggest terrorist in the world… So is Mccains association with him better of worse then some guy who dropped an M-80 in front of the US government building, that killed no one and did about 500 dollars of damage? My guess is most people in Iraq have felt brutally terrorised!

Gaypastor:
Because the older candidate is a member of a party with a poor economic track record over the last few decades.
Reagan, Bush Sr., Bush Jr. they all tried the same thing: deregulate the economy. The concept sounds pretty, but in reality: if you deregulate corporations, they will stomp on the consumer (that is the first goal of business after all–to make money–everything else comes second); if you deregulate the housing and banking market, it will most likely collapse.
The regulations that conservatives oppose are there to make sure our food is safe; allow us to return faulty merchandise (there are no Lemon Laws for cars in most other countries =); prevent corporate monopoly on our lives (AT&T, anyone?) and overall, decrease wealth disparity (larger middle class) which is a very big problems in countries ruled by businesses.
By all means, allow corporations to thrive, but don’t let them trample the commonwealth.

Got to give the McCain campaign some credit.
The trolls they are hiring are better quality than the ones from a few weeks ago. “Lifelong gay democrat” — that’s a good one. The McCain campaign must have gotten an influx of unemployed college grads from the meltdown on Wall Street.
However a troll is still a troll. Astroturf is still fake, even though the artificial coloring is now a slightly bluer shade than the toxic red.

I’m really sick and tired of people bringing up the Rev. Wright thing,”much of it caught on tape,” as one poster has said. Really? In the 20 years that the Obamas were members of that church, Wright gave — conservatively — 1040 sermons (20 years x 52 weeks = 1040 for those who can’t do the math). That does not include special services or holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. And exactly how many clips have you seen from those 1040 sermons???? ONE! YES ONE! The same 60 second clip that has been shown over and over, given on a day WHEN OBAMA WASN’T EVEN PRESENT — he was campaigning (which can easily be verified). Therefore, how can anyone claim to know that this was typical of all 1040 sermons? They can’t. Just another Repug tactic to discredit the man. What you all need to be fearful of is McInsane with is hot temper and Failin’ with her ignorance of world affairs with the fingers on the nuclear (not nukular as they would like to say) button. Be very afraid.
Ayers and his wife turned themselves into the authorities in the 1980s and nothing was done. If they are so awful, why aren’t they behind bars? Being “friendly” with someone doesn’t connote “friendship.” I’m friendly with the people on my street, but most are not among my circle of friends. But obviously someone who can’t put a decent sentence together would miss this semantical distinction. When you sit on boards with others, do you make them fill out a questionnaire on their past life? Get real.
And Obama has posted his birth records on his website. He was born in Hawaii. If he were born elsewhere, don’t you think that the McCain campaign would have ferreted this out by now? And McCain was born in Central America. It took a bill SPONSORED BY OBAMA to clarify that anyone born on a military base was a natural born citizen. It has been supposed to be the case, but the bill decided the issue. Now that is class on the part of Barack. Do you really think the old man would have done the same had the shoe been on the other foot? NOT!

I’m a small business owner. My business grosses about $250,000 a year and employs six personnel in the most depressed county in Oregon. We net about $30,000 per year depending on a variety of factors. We didn’t get a kick-back this year, we can’t get food stamps, nor do we get tax credits for our two children and we have no access to government housing or health care given to those who don’t work. Obama wants to tax us yet more and on top of all the permits, licenses and employee tax that we already pay. If Obama becomes president we will be out of business our employees will be out of a job and I’ll be on welfare where I’ll collectively making more than I do now. Multiply that by thousands of other small businesses. Welcome to the Un-united Socialist States of America Obama supporters.

Just vote for who you think the next best presidential candidate will be.
Familiarize yourself with facts, not fiction.
Check other peoples’ facts through reliable sources and not just the internet.
Be happy knowing you familiarized yourself to make an informed decision.
Listen to both sides with an open mind and realize that we are screwed no matter who gets into office.
I myself am remembering who voted in the bailout package and voting them out because now we have come up to 1 trillion dollars with money going to people and places that never needed this to begin with… I blame both sides… I still have not heard from either party as to what they will do specifically for our country.

Darlene says “Obama is not merely associated with domestic terrorists, Palestinian radicals, Marxists, and black liberation ideologues — he was their favorite candidate.”.
Who taught you that? Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter? Shame on your fear mongering. This is the basic difference between Democrats and Republicans. One thrives on hope and the other feeds off fear and paranoia.
McCain could associate with criminals from Nixon era but Obama shouldn’t get together with one for school fund raising? Never mind the fact that this ex-criminal is now a University Professor?
Palin could associate with secessionists and America Haters but Obama cannot disassociate himself from a rabid pastor who went out of control? Shame on you right wing hypocrites.

McCain made a risky move selecting Sarah Palin. We are starting to see the consequence of that. From personal experience, I have many republican friends who changed their mind after hearing Palin talk in the few interviews she has given.

Continuing Visitor’s point on Ayers…he is now a respected professor among his students and colleagues at a distinguished university, working for righteous causes such as the underprivileged and poverty. Is this the America of second chances? Not according to Repbulicans, who believe a single soundbyte or mistakes of youth should condemn someone for life. Maybe we ought to throw the entire staff of the University of Chicago in jail for supporting a “terrorist”. No, not in my America.

After reading some of the strange comments from gay pastors (what is the relevance); claims about Obama’s citizenship, I rejoice in the fact that we don’t have direct democracy. We will survive the election of either Obama or McCain. Both are good Americans and will govern well whichever one wins. Will we survive the continuing incivility of our political discourse. Shame on you, Steve, for saying McCain lied about his POW experience. How many other men who served in the POW camp have verified his story? Many have, all except one as I recall. Steve, I am sorry for your anger. Now what do your have to say for Obama who thinks there are 57 states in the U. S.? Of course that isn’t lying, that’s being dumb. What 8 year old doesn’t know there are not 57 states? Tell us about Obama’s time in college, will you? He won’t release his thesis, his grades or tell us anything about his college days except that he used cocaine. Perhaps he can’t remember those days. So, you want a cocaine using man, who is married to a woman who has hated the U. S. until this year, as our president? Again, why are you so bitter? If you served in our military I am pretty sure you volunteered to serve so you got what you were due. At least McCaine was imprisoned for you and for the rest of us and held his head high. All of you Obama supporters will see your mistake if he is elected. You will wish you could take back your vote, trust me.

May I suggest that we behave and with sympathy and compassion in our hearts and send the ‘poor’, tired and clearly PTSD addled senator towards his so well deserved retirement in one or more of his seven, eight or nine owned residences.
By the same token, may we hope Governor Palin be blissfully re-united with her loving family in Palingrad where adulation in her as per the cult of her personality most probably will dull the agony of being once and for all deprived of any office higher than her present one. Courtesy of the Republican party of course.

The attack strategy is typical Republican. Since they have no ideas, no sense of genuine responsibility to the nation, they just get ugly and petty. It’s demeaning and contemptuous of the nation. Unfortunately, some people will buy into their negativity. But unless the nation rises above this sort of thing, the US will remain mired in government that fails on all counts. The nation faces enormous problems. Only intelligent, thoughtful, and creative leadership will lift the nation out of the very dark abyss created by the last eight years of inept and wrong-minded government. Every action has its consequences, and we as a nation are feeling those consequences quite acutely.

Bottom of the barrel desperation tactics at best.
McCain’s people are looking at 8-point deficits in the polls and electoral maps showing an impending Obama landslide, and know they have no choice but to take the campaign to the gutter.
Yes, you can stick a fork in this one. No candidate has ever blown a lead this big this late in the campaign. Personal attacks don’t work at this point. This might have worked back in June, but it’s too late now.

It’s bad enough that Mr. McCain and Mrs. Palin are lying about Senator Obama, but many posts here are bold-faced lies and myth mongering, too. These silly lies were thrown out during the primary and were vetted over and over again by well-respected journalists, academics, government officials, and people involved. Any well informed intelligent person wouldn’t give these credence. It isn’t even funny. It just something out of the McCarthy era.
We are in a time of crises where people are losing their jobs and retirement and people get onto this blog to tell outrageous lies about Senator Obama. Just today the stock market dropped 800pts. If you can’t have a dialogue based on Senator McCain’s policies and plans, then it shows how wanting they actually are. If you can’t articulate why Senator McCain is in the election, then this may explain why you are using lies. However, why you are using lies that are for fearmongering, race mongering, and evoking hate, is beyond me.
Just check out Wikipedia.com for Senator Obama to even get the basics right. The information about Senator Obama gets a “star” grade by being highly vetted by thousands and thousands of people and respected references. Check out FactCheck.com to get the basics right. It is mind boggling how people tell lies and repeat rumors- they are either stupid, or dishonest with and agenda, lazy at getting the real facts.

What’s amazing to me is that there remains an audience who will spend time listening to ads and speeches that do not explain what the McCain & Palin (or Obama & Biden for that matter) will do for you, me and every other America tax paying citizen.
What are they saying they will do to stop the destruction of the American economy (Dow under 10,000 today!), the destruction of our reputation and moral high ground around the world (we torture prisoners just like any run of the mill dictator), the massive spending deficit and bloated government that Bush has created and is leaving us with, the terrible state of our nation’s schools (great news for the kids), and our massive dependence (and enrichment of) the oil barons of the world - most of whom are loyal friends of the Bushes and the Carlyle Group - whose illustrious senior advisors include George Bush Sr, George W (tho he quit) James Baker, Donald Rumsfeld, Frank Carlucci, Richard Darman, Randal Quarles, John Major, and even Shafig bin Laden (Osama’s older brother).
So - we should all do a little research before casting our votes this time around - and make sure that you’re holding onto your wallet when you do.

There is a lawsuit that challenges McCain’s eligibility to be president, he will not provide the needed papers to prove he is eligible, thus the reason for the lawsuit. Why has not Senator Obama challenged this,it seems pretty important.I have other paperwork that list his connections with some radicals, why is this not being discussed? This is not a personal attack on McCain, but a concern for our country as his allegiance is called into question in his various writings.

Gay Pastor: The reason why Barack Obama is gaining on McCain in this economic crisis is that he has a real plan he developed with the top economists and financial minds in our country including Robert Rubin, Larry Summers (of MIT and Harvard), Laura Tyson, Robert Reich, and former Commerce Secretary Bill Daley. McCain’s economic plan developed by “de-regulator extraordinaire” former Senator Phil Gramm, a lobbyist for UBS, can fit on a 3 x 5 note card. If you are gay and a pastor, you may want to investigate Sarah Palin’s association with the voodoo pastor Thomas Muthee who Palin described as “And I’m thinking, this guy’s really bold, he doesn’t even know what I’m going to do, he doesn’t know what my plans are. And he’s praying not “Oh Lord, if it be your will may she become governor,” no, he just prayed for it. He said, “Lord make a way and let her do this next step. And that’s exactly what happened.” and her relationship with David Brickner, the executive director of Jews for Jesus. Brickner also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God’s “judgment of unbelief” of Jews who haven’t embraced Christianity. As a gay man you may be interested in Palin’s comment “You’ll be encouraged by the power of God’s love and his desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality,” Just how is your life impacted by your homosexuality? Maybe Sarah can pray over you!

It is well documented that the reason for the financial meltdown was with the vehement support of the DEMOCRATS in the house and Senate. Waters/Frank are prime examples. Republicans lets us down by letting them get away with it. Even Bill Clinton said recently he saw this coming during his term in office.
If Obama/Biden do in fact win the White House it will not be without the full support of the media. Even then it is still very questionable whether it has been enough.
By the way Steve, Mccain’s service to this country has been vetted over and over again. It is more than common knowledge he was in fact a prisoner of war for five years, and was offered release, but refused.

McCain claims his first (of several) airplane crashes as a pilot was caused by mechanical failure. But it sounds just like his campaign!
The official Navy report into the Corpus Christi accident on March 12, 1960, concludes that the AD-6 Skyraider trainer crashed because McCain failed to “maintain an airspeed above the stall speed.” It attributed the accident to “the preoccupation of the pilot coupled with a power setting too low to maintain level flight.” The single-engine prop plane sank to the bottom of Corpus Christi Bay. McCain was rescued by a helicopter after swimming to the surface.
After he “stalls” and “sinks” from being too preoccupied and running on too little juice will McCain blame mechanical failure for his upcoming loss in the election!?

Steve Zabriskie , I’m sorry to hear your business is having problems. Obviously, no plan is perfect. But I would rather see the tax cut given to the hundreds of thousands that fall into the under $250,000 tax bracket, rather than businesses earning $250,000 plus, as this would include far more individual homeowners, government employees, and even less fortunate small businesses than yourself who aren’t making as much. Your six employees would still be receiving individual tax cuts themselves under this plan. McCain has no plan for relief for these individuals, while even the most stringent analysis of Obama’s plan would cut taxes for 81% of the absolute lowest wage earners in America. With all due respect, I think these people are the ones that need the tax cut the most.

What you don’t expect, is millions of dollars that SEC found from foreign countries to Obama and the FBI will not investigate “because it would affect the elections.” The things that my gut and people say about Obama’s associations are VERY DANGEROUS. I’m all for women running for high office. I’m a woman who was very lucky in the job market in a major US city for a long time. But I think the first requirement in order to hold office, certainly one of the highest offices in the country, is to have a functional brain. Sen. McCain clearly isn’t aware of that and thinks that just wearing an expensive well-tailored suit is the only thing that matters. This woman couldn’t put an intelligent sentence together if her life depended on it.
Tina Fey’s SNL impersonation of her is dead-on. I guess Palin is still waiting for the “talent portion” to be called. I sure haven’t seen the part that requires any thinking. Every time she winks at the camera she loses another ten IQ points. She insults my intelligence and Joe-six-packs’s too.

Well, McCain has to be my choice. Barrack’s plan to help the middle class in the long term won’t help us. Where is he going to create millions of jobs? Solar energy? Well, that thing didn’t pass through congress due to the cost of starting such a program. How is he going to help cut down the cost of warfare by letting our enemies have the freedom to surpress our allies? I don’t want him to just ignore his friend when the time calls for it. It’d be like ignoring us like he’s already done. Right now, he’s just watching how America is doing and blaming it on our votes. None of us voted for this, it wasn’t anyone’s fault. He’s just pointing the finger to make sure that he isn’t blamed for this because “America had made its shares mistake” too. As an American, he’s part of that if he said that we made our mistakes except that we’re not in his picture except for the white house.

We hit it in 1970, see McCamey, TX if you would like to see what that looks like. Saudi Arabia hit peak in 2006, and we didn’t stop. Matter of fact we started burning the candle brighter at both ends. The older wiser guy and his new sidekick batgirl, seriously I want to see what she looks like in neoprene tights, don’t have any tools in the toolbox for this situation, except to do the same thing over and over that we have been doing for the last 50 years. Being a pastor, I am sure you are well aware of one of the definitions of insanity, which is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. This countries economy works with cheap energy and unlimited growth. Take either of those out of the equation and it is a bust. Obama, so far is the only one who has even entertained the idea of “thinking outside the box” on this one. Sure there are those that yell Bob Barr or Ron Paul and that is all fine and dandy, but let’s deal with political reality on this one. If McCain, and I checked the above posts, has a 12.5% chance of winning this thing, according to overseas online betting sites, what do you think Barr and Paul have? The correct answer would be less then 12.5%. In a nutshell, what we have coming down the pike at us, is gonna make the Great Depression look like a bad day at the dog track. Remember the crash of ‘29. It still took about 2 years for the country to really start feeling it. It will happen faster this time, there are just so many more people frolicking about then there were in ‘29. Growth rate was doubling ever seven years so figure the Great Depression to the 8th power to start and go from there.

Barak Hussein Obama -Osama- is a disguise IslamoMarxist. This musslin hates our country. He plans to destroy our wonderful Republic handed to us by our founding fathers.

Politics, Politics, Politics.
Obama or McCain does not matter.
“One in four mammals are in danger of becoming extinct” that’s a serious warning for mankind and earth.
Why nobody cares about ecosystem and earth?
The next mammal will be human if we keep destroying environment much sooner that you think.

I was going to vote for Obama until he started bringing up this Keating 5 stuff. Apparently, McCain was acquitted of any wrong doing by a committee run by democrats.
You almost had me Barack. I wanted to believe you were something new.
97. Ed | 10.06.08
Hey Gloria, if you really believe Obama thinks there are 57 states than I don’t know what to say. Both candidates have made mistakes in terms of speech. I also like how you allude to the idea that Obama may not have done well in school. I think you should do a little more research on his time at Harvard Law School or when he taught law at U Chicago.
As for the cocaine thing…what do you think has a more lasting presence in someone’s life, trying cocaine, or being in a small box where you are being beaten for 5 years?
I also think it is highly inappropriate for you to attempt to guilt people by telling them that John McCain was imprisoned for them. If McCain is a hero can’t we please talk specifically about all those other heroes out there who fought and potentially died? Servicemen don’t fight for this country in order to rub it in the face of those who didn’t.
Furthermore, you end your post by saying “trust me.” Are you serious?
And lastly, the first nutjob post about Obama being influenced by Muslim terrorists? I guess the only people who will listen to your bs is the post a comment section of the CSM.
98. jbrinkmeyer | 10.06.08
What we are witnessing here, not only in the desperate attacks of McCain and Palin, but the comments found here is what pundits noted long before this campaign began - the Republican party is in disarray, a sinking ship manned by a cadre of true believers who haven’t yet realized that they are toast.
Paranoid is a word that come most easily to mind here. Obama being put on trial? For what? For serving on a committee with a person who went off the deep end during the Vietnam War? The only reason Sarah Palin can make these ludicrous claims is because she’s too young to remember the war and what it did to people. As is Obama. If Ayers is the dangerous terrorist she claims he is, then why isn’t he in jail? And why does he keep getting high marks from his students at one of the top, and certainly not liberal, universities in the country?
I sometimes get the sense that McCain and Palin have stepped through a time warp. At the very least they have not yet caught on that Karl Rove is no longer king and Bush is the least appreciated president in history. Pathetic is the other word that comes to mind here. Pathetic.

I have to agree with #50 and re-post #3 comment from above [below].
The fact that someone who probably did not know of Barak Obama prior to being ‘plucked’ from obscurity to represent our country along with Mr. Obama himself truly forgiving his country for the injustices done to African-Americans to this very day (y’know, the only race who did not choose to immigrate to the USA, BTW), both with the hope of changing the face that Bush and the Republicans have smeared onto the USA, tells me that we should not only individually vote for Barak Obama, we should all head to Washington to shake his hand for standing up to all the rhetoric and assination attempts on both his life and character.
I may not be a PhD but I did get a Bachelors in Sociology AND Psychology and I can see when I’m being bamboozled. The broadcasting of ‘turning the page’, etc by the Republicans does let me know that the tide has turned and the money has run out on the Republican campaign. No doubt they’ll tie Obama’s hands as president with tons of inquiries as to how this happened, unfortunately. At least we’ll have someone who is actually of the people, by the people and for the people in our highest office.
“Sarah Palin and ‘first dudes’ political alliance with a terrorist who was murdered in 1993 during “a plastic explosives sale gone bad.”

Sarah congratulates the secession party only 6 months ago on their political gains.
Her husband, Todd, was a member the Alaskan Independence Party working for Alaska to secede from the United States. The director of Division of Elections in Alaska reported that Todd Palin registered in October 1995 to the Alaska Independence Party, a radical group that advocates for Alaskan secession from the United States, and remained a member until 2002, when he registered as undeclared while his wife ran for office.”

Last time Democrats ran on a ticket it was to ‘Bring the troops back home’. That is how they got control of the senate. That turned out to be lies. As a favor for voting Democrat, the senate kept giving Bush money for the war. As a favor for them going back on their promise I’m voting Republican.

What a witch hunt. Millions have been spent pursuing the BIG SECRET OF OBAMA’S and nothing to show for it.
The world is laughing so hard at the conspiracy theory. HOW HAS OBAMA MANAGED MIND CONTROL OVER THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE? How has he force them to stay mum over THE BIG SECRET?
Can you even begin to imagine how much RNC and others have spent to ferret out this BIG SECRET?
It seems beyond all imagination that this continues. Did Obama make mistakes as a youth? Probably, as did mccain, palin, clinton, abe lincoln, etc. If the secret is so incredible and horrible, why can’t someone be paid to spill it??? where are the photos, memories, witnesses???? Is he that omnipotent that he can make it all disappear? Isn’t that kind of crazy to believe.
How could a young child, then boy, then teen hide all of this enormous stuff you all suspect? Just think it over.
You all have spent so many hours of your precious life seething over this and imagining the secret, and projecting that onto someone you have never met.
Is it really worth it? It is certainly your right to continue, but we gotta tell you , it seems like the x-files conspiracy thing here. Whatever…..

To the small business owner making $250,000. You are forgetting that you do not pay income tax on your GROSS income, only your ADJUSTED NET INCOME. Therefore you do you think you will pay higher taxes? And Obama’s policy re the $250,000 is for INDIVIDUALS. Since you are netting only $30,000 a year, you will probably have more in your pocket than you do now. There was a link in the New York Times in the past of couple weeks that takes you to a nonpartisan calculator that shows what your taxes would be under each candidate’s plan. I urge you to seek it out.

William Ayers supported militant black panthers. As a member of the Woods Fund they raised campaign money for Obama.
Reverend Wright - For twenty years Obama sat in his church while he spewed his anti-white rhetoric. Obama disagreed with Wright’s views so much that he kept going to his sermon for twenty years. In fact they disagreed so much that he chose Wright to marry him. Wright also shares the same views as Farakhan.
Obama worked to train ACORN activists who pressured banks into giving mortgages to low income minorities.
Obama schooled in an Indonesian Madrassa -why does he lie about it?
Obama is supported by the PLO-
Obama- wants to increase taxes on anyone making over $250,000 so he can give it back to the poor inner city trash. Time to wake up America!

The Communist News Network (CNN) and other ideological communist, radical Muslim, liberal news organizations are in love with Obama. Obama is a dangerous choice and will lead to no good for our country and our American way of life. Democracy has taken a big hit because of the greed of a few with this financial crisis, the Democrat lead Congress not Bush are at fault for this. They make the laws the Executive branch caries out the laws that are made and is ham strung until the laws are made. Yea Bush made a few bad choice in his presidency, but going into Iraq when we did was not one of them, he and his advisors biggest mistake was to not commit to more force and getting it done quicker. What they needed was to treat this like a WWII type war and eradicate the fire before it spread. I remember that President Bush said that it would be a long haul and that the resolve of the American people would be tested. Yes that test is what the “Radical Muslims” were counting on, that if they hung long enough that we would eventually get a new president like Obama so that they could recharge and take their “Holy War” to America. This time with Nuclear weapons instead of knifes and planes. We have not had a major attack on our soil because of the security of the Executive branch of Government i.e. President Bush. That is the legacy that Bush leaves and McCain would hopefully continue if elected. Obama like Clinton before him would hand the keys over to the very people that want to see America destroyed.

Angry and disgruntled are the Republicans two
Surpassed each day by the better you know who
Victory for them seems a certainty quite slim
Final moments displaying their qualities dim
Until this battle is over are weeks only four
The young Senator a game changer, maybe more
Brings back decency to the House that is White
History will judge whether the choice was right

Are you better off now after 8 years of Republican rule? Compare and contrast the results of 8 years with a democratic president. That’s the bottom line here: Do we need a change or not? You answer this question yourself! And when you go into the election booth vote your conscience. Do you want a smart man and his well informed running mate or do you want the old man and the pit bull?

In all your diatribe to suggest you had LINKS to PROVE Obama was unpatriotic, you included links from Snopes whice was explaining your reason for not liking him was FICTION.

109. John Lincoln | 10.06.08
Mr. Obama is a natural POTUS. He is precisely what America and the world need in this unusual time. The perfect opposite of John McCain.
W and Co. have put in some solid, hard work destroying this country. Can anybody still be in denial about that? McCain is not the one to rebuild it. He is an angry little armadillo, beaten up by years of politicking, and doing that not very well. He cannot connect with the public mind. Even if he could, he has no real solutions to communicate. This is obvious. A war hero yes. But so was George Patton. So was Audy Murphy. So were thousands of Americans throughout the history of American wars. Very few of them would have made good presidents, or even senators or aldermen. A good politician sees the people as a continuous dynamic, always in need of various solutions to divert disaster, and pursue the positive. Obama sees this. His thoughts spring from this vision. He is sincere. McCain fights to win power. Obama fights to win the people!
110. AY_Lamb | 10.06.08
The McCain Campaign will not question the legal qualifications of Sen. Obama because under the constitution Sen. McCain is not qualified to run for President of the United States (see US Constitution and various court precedents about “Natural Born Citizen” and the status of the US possession of the Panama Canal Zone) in which John McCain was born. More importantly, the latest attack by Governor Palin on Barak Obama’s connection to the Annenberg Foundation is yet again another blatant example of Anti-Semitism by the Xian Evangelical dominated Republican Party. I thought G.W. Bush, grandson of Prescott Bush the WWII associate and business partner of German Steele Magnate Fritz Thyssen and Adolf Hitler was the pinnacle of avarice from the Xian evangelical American establishment. However, alas with my third deployment to Iraq I have witnessed yet another progression by the US military establishment going beyond covert subterfuge and animus towards the Medinat Yehudit and moving right into overt and outright open belligerency. John McCain (if elected) will be the Pentagon’s man in Washington and with him at the helm they will establish conditions and criteria to see the fruition of the Xian eschatological aspirations and expand combat operation across the full spectrum of what the view as the “promised land” which is almost entirely the whole of the Earths equatorial region. Please see all data available about Sen. McCain’s activity in the World League for Freedom and Democracy (World Anti-Communist League) and the Anti-Defamation Leagues analysis of there activities. See McCain’s activities in the Council on Foreign Relations and involvement with Rick Davis and Raffaello Follieri and Vatican complicity in the Reich’s Concordat please also read the book End Game that is widely touted by Military commanders and the Evangelical establishment.

Also, with McCain’s tax cut, the only jobs that are created will be shipped over seas.

It might be pertinent to mention the Pastor, Rod Parsley, who John McCain referred to as his “spiritual guide” (Parsley says, regarding Islam, “The fact is that America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion destroyed.”) and the Pastor, John Hagee, who blamed Katrina on the “immorality” in New Orleans. Both of these men were high-profile endorsers of the John McCain. And, as mentioned elsewhere in these comments, Sarah Palin is —– MARRIED TO —– a secessionist who’s leader is an admitted, and very outspoken America Hater.

I am a Republican. I am very disappointed in the Republican Party. I think that it is time for a real change. I don’t think the McCain/Palin canidates will do the job. McCain’s track record proves otherwise.
Our economy really needs new blood in leadership. We need change in more than the Presidency. Let destroy the lobbyist. They are distorting what our elected officials should do. I have heard that candidates should be paid better, be on a one time 6 year term,(only) and outlaw lobbyist and the American people who vote would see real change in our country. I’m beginning to like that idea.
115. Graniteman | 10.06.08
Thank you, Gov. Palin. Senator Obama has been treated with kid gloves by the media ever since his contest with Hillary Clinton began. It’s about time that a candidate or network TV anchor started asking tough questions about Barack Obama’s ties to corrupt politicians, convicted felons and unrepentant SDS bombers in Chicago. If he can’t take a little heat, how can Obama stand up to thugs like Hugo Chavez, Vlad Putin and the mullahs of Teheran? A commander in chief needs b*lls, not just pretty rhetoric. Hillary and Sarah both have more guts than Barack ever will. That’s why I’m a centrist Democrat voting for McCain/Palin. (I would have voted for Clinton/Biden but….)
116. kenny hott | 10.06.08
The liberal media is pro Barack Obama and they seem to be proud of it. To vote for Barack Obama is to vote for someone who has close ties to Planned Parenthood who having endorsed him and who are the major baby killers in the world and Barack Obama approves of them killing the babies of America, the future citizens who did not have a chance to live in this great country.
Sarah Palin was raised up by God to be nominated as the next vice president.
She was also raised up by God to speak out against abortion and corruption in goverment. when Barack Obama approves of abortion which is one of the greatest sins of the US. Many men in office had the opportunity to speak out against abortion but did not. A baby is made in the image of God and abortion is destroying that one made in the image of God. Just because the US laws says abortion is legal does not make it legal in the sight of God. The US is being judged by God for this sin of murdering innocent babies. I wonder how many people who are pro-choice would have wanted their mother to have aborted them. I would think not many yes to that question. Faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only hope for all people in regards to the judgment of sin that must be dealt with to be able to enter into Heaven. Aborted babies are issued directly into Heaven for they are not able to hear the gospel of the Jesus Christ but are covered by His shed blood on the cross. Because of God’s mercy, grace and love for those created in His image, helpless aborted babies are saved into heaven.
No matter how many lies and how many ways the liberal media tries to tear down Sarah Palin a born again Christian led by the Spirit of God and because of the Spirit of God in her, she doesn’t have to fight the battle alone and further more Barack Obama is no match for anyone filled with the Holy Spirit of God.

Palin was the worse choice McCain could of made. I am pretty tired of hearing about the terrorist theory. You all have some intelligence so read both sides before you start sling the BS out. McCain is too old to run the country. He looks like he is on deaths door already. What a scary thought to think Palin then would take over.
119. rr | 10.06.08
McCain and Palin are liars plain and simple. Since April, McCain has showed me that he really is another Bush–with attacks that prey on the ignorance of his fellow countrymen. Shameful and sick–yes!
Necessary? Not entirely, as the Obama campaign has had a different tone and cadence from the start. What an ugly and sad path the Republican candidate chose to take. And I would have backed him, if not for this…
120. Peggy | 10.06.08
Obama is scary. He associates with racitsts, terrorists and helped organize “community groups” that teaches hate and rioting. This man wants to be president? For all of you voting for him, if he wins, you did it. In a couple years, we will be looking at a different country….a communist one. Make everyone “equal”. Income redistribution. Forget about the free market. The government will run everything. Look at people like Ayres playing major rolls in government.
Our founders are rolling over in their graves. God help the USA if this man gets elected.

Obama’s plan on fixing the economy -raise taxes on corporations and businesses. Lower taxes on poor people who already don’t pay any taxes.Let me ask you if you owned a business and you had to pay higher taxes what could you possibly do to make up for the tax increase? How about raising prices? How about not investing in new equipment? How about cutting jobs?
Obama has taken more campaign Money from Freddie and Fannie than almost every other politician except for Dodd. What legislation has Obama ever fought his party on? Produce one… I challenge anyone. MCain co-authored legislation to impose tighter regulations on the GSEs. Black Dems blocked it!Obama- worked for ACORN to get more loans for Afro-Americans without jobs, and got rewarded for it.

My family also runs a small business that has been hard hit by these difficult economic times. As stated in other posts, I share the concerns that if elected, Obama will raise our taxes above and beyond to those we already are required to pay and that we will be out of business. Small businesses are the backbone of America, and dissolution of them will have a devastating effect on everyone……you think things are bad now, I can’t imagine how difficult times will get if Obama is actually elected and our taxes are raised. It is a trickle down effect that will not only hit the business owners, but their employees, their vendors, their customers…..the list is endless. Think long and hard before voting before Obama, I see a disaster in the making with him in office.

That is what I prey for. It has been very very entertaining to have her around this campaign season and I will miss her dearly when she is not in the headlights… um, sorry… headlines. I hope we get a Sarah Palin sequel in four years! That would be a gift!

During the vice presidential debate last week, Palin said that McCain will be tapping into her experience working in Energy. Biden said that Obama wants him in the room every time that he (Obama)makes a decision! DUH! Because Obama cannot make a decision by himself! We know that from him voting “present” and waffling on his opinions. If Obama wins, be afraid, America! Be very, very afraid. The old saying, “You better watch what you wish for, you might get it!” will come back to haunt you Obama supporters. He will be looking at all his advisors and saying ,”What do I do? What do I do now? I don’t know what to do!!!” He doesn’t have the network or the relationships that McCain has developed over the past 26 years!! Who will be in Obama’s ear? And if he pulls out of Iraq without a plan, he might as well tell the parents that their son/daughter DIED FOR NOTHING!!!!! It will be chaos especially after their elections in 2009. I could go on and on, but how much time do you have?

Instead acting like stateswoman, Palin behaves like an old next door lady crying and yelling the neighbor, just unbelievable.. If she could be a president, all of us can. Just for such deadly decision of choosing such VP, Mccain shows his fatal off line judgment.. so bound to lose. Romie and Hagabee etc are at least the serious ones.
128. jeff | 10.06.08
Still don’t understand, if Mccain wants the job, why does he not tell people what he plans to do. All he talks about is Obama, he needs to tell what his ideas are, does he have any, or are the dems correct and he will continue the failed policies? Also if you are so conservative and wanting to be the one to stop all the pork spending should you have not set the example and vote against the bail out? One idea for Mccain to save your election and get you elected, get rid of Palin show you can work with the other party and place Hillary on the ticket with you. This is just not the republican party of Ronald Reagan, he would be turning over in his grave with the scandals that Palin has brought along with her. Please stop telling the beacon on the hill story, you should not be trying to use Reagan to get elected, you nor GW deserve that.

It is obvious to me that the Republican/McCain campaign is employing the same tactics that gave us the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz administration, much to this country’s demise. Curiously, McCain has allowed this same Rovian/Republican strategy into his quest for the Presidency. I am so glad that events have transpired, events that made main stream Americans wake up, and now many of us see just what the politics-as-usual really is. Lies.
Concommitant with this realization is the fact that we’ve been offered a candidate that offers hope for our future. What a concept. Hope v. fear and continuous smears. Gosh, as a true American, what would you choose? Me, I’m going for solutions; I’m going for intelligence and steady discernment. I’m going for Obama for eventhought one man can’t make everything right, he is the right man for this job now.
133. Nick | 10.06.08
Don’t forget McCain’s “take the lead” farce: vowing to shut down his campaign and cancel the debate to return to Washington to deal with the financial crises. Then realizing Obama was not going to fall for it, did a U-turn and appeared at the scheduled debate.
Now personal attacks by both McCain and Palin are gearing up. Is this how you inform the voting public of how you will lead the country if elected? Sad and desperate.

To answer Darlene Stevonson:
Well maybe Obama grew up in the social/ideological circles you listed, not by choice but by the mere fact that he was born to a family with ties to Marxism, Palestinian ‘radicals’ (not that I see how you can ever associate radical and Palestinian when compared to extremism of Israelis and their daily torture of Palestinians) but regardless, the point is, even if he was raised in this circle, he does not support them by choice. As he grew up, I would assume, his American belonging grew stronger and so did his support of American ideology, which sometimes is more harmful than not. I do not know how anyone can associate him to Muslims and Arabs after the speech he gave showing his unconditional support to Israel. Muslims and Arabs may have supported him at first, being from a minority circles and identifying more closely with him but it is def. not the case anymore.
As for Marxism, his policies and program clearly show the path he will follow and it is not even close to Marxism. He is a moderate socialist, of as any democrat.
Why do you dig in the past instead of looking at the facts and at what he advocates (and has been advocating all of his adult life) and is clearly outlined in his plan.
Other point (unrelated but I had to make it as a back up to the idea of “Palestinian radicals” you made):
It is not the issue in question but I would like to raise a point about the position of the US towards Palestine and Israel. It is just appalling! Whether democrat or republican, they’re both as bad. I do not understand how a country that claims to fight for human rights and democracy, give a ‘carte blanche’ to Israelis to kill Palestinians on a daily basis, putting thousands of check points all over the Palestinian territory, not allowing kids to go to schools or elderly to go to hospitals. You should check the number of people who die on a daily basis waiting for Israel’s IDF to allow them to go to hospitals (that are within the Palestinian territory).

All of the theorizing, conclusions, postulating, and thinking that there are “papers” to prove your point that Obama is anything other than what he presents himself as is just that: theories, personal conclusions, postures, and buying into what you need in order to justify your positions and to influence others. It isn’t necessary. Your GOP base is committed to the vote; the Democrats are, too; and the Independents do not like this kind of stuff because they use their intellect, not their party loyalty or their fears with which to make a decision.
The “associations” of Obama to Ayers was not involvement in The Weathermen when Obama was 8 yrs old. They were both asked to serve on a Committee in Chicago of civil involvement to improve the city’s educational system, funded by a grant from the Annenberg Foundation, a pretty up-front organization. Ayers, as well as others involved in local civic organizations of community service, did host a coffee for Obama, so did the Rabbi who lives across the street from Obama. He did not “pal around” with him or participate in activities when he was 8 yrs old or later. By the time Obama met the man who was on the same committee with him, the man had been vindicated by society before Obama’s time, whether rightly or wrongly. This is hardly the same kind of “association” that McCain has had throughout his political career with lobbyists, gamblers, Liddy, et al.
Obama has been through this vetting inside and out for almost 4 years, intensely over the past 2 years. The only unknown here is Sarah Palin—”Who Is Sarah Palin?” is the more appropriate question for the last 4 weeks of this campaign. Her intellectual deficiencies are well known by now. Her “experience” as an “executive”, mayor, oil and gas regulator, hockey mom, et al, is dubious and should be better publicized than it has been.
An article in The New York Times yesterday relates the living conditions of the Yup’ik natives on the tundra who have neither running water nor sewage and who must pay $8 for a box of Cheerios. With all that windfall from her oil and gas industry and all the wealth of revenues into that state and all the earmarks for bridges and roads to nowhere and pipelines for which she still does not have a contract with Canada, one would think that this governor would have at least done something to improve the living conditions of these native Alaskans. Her own Pastor Moofrey, or whatever his name is, surely should be scrutinized…witchcraft? That’s pretty mavericky, ya bet’cha!

I read somewhere that this election will also be an intelligence test for our nation. Although that really scares me (look at the peach we have had in there for 8 years) I really believe that this is true. There appears to be a lot of people still cowering under their blankets. I’ve got to tell you that while you are all freaking out about silly, made up conspiracies that play up perfectly to your fear and unease at the prospect of voting for a man of color, the foxes came in and stole all of our eggs and oh my golly they went ahead and ate all the chickens too! Wake up and smell the coffee. Oh wait, they took that too.

“He spent 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, became the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, created a voter registration drive that registered 150,000 new voters, spent 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spent 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, became chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spent 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 152 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees.”
He did this ? Yes, this is his “Resume” to some degree - He just leaves out the part that it was all funded by his TERRIORST Friends and business partners. He leaves out that he was organizer of radical groups. The main reason he even got into Harvard was his “connections” with the radicals who want to destroy the country ! They paid for him to get in ! Open your eyes people !
Mc Cain and Palin are not “attacking” Obama, they are simply trying to inform the American people of what kind of person he is. It’s not like Obama is running for student council here ! ANY person - McCain or Obama or any other person wanting to run our country and be our leader should be made to “tell it all” ! There should be no secrets at all ! The American people have the right to know every bit of information about any canidate in order to vote for the best person ! If Obama has nothing to hide then he should quit hiding things from the people. He won’t even let Harvard release his Thesis paper entitled “Soviet Nuclear Disarmament”. And this is just one of them ! Why the secrets ??? This ought to be something that alarms every American. Instead everyone is blinded by his smooth talk. I’d rather ended up with some of the same than with no country at all.

McCain would continue Bush’s economic policies that do NOT work.
Look at our economy now. Our economy sucks!
Every time our economy tanks, a Repubican is President!
Herbert Hoover - Great Depression
Dwight Eisenhower - 1957 Recession
Richard Nixon - 1971 Recession
Gerald Ford - stagflation in 1973
Ronald Reagan - “Black Monday,” Oct. 19, 1987
George H. W. Bush - 1991 Recession
George W. Bush - right now!
We deserve a change.
Vote Barack Obama.

Darlene presented a series of intelligent questions and the best an Obama supporter can do is to tell her that he will be the next POTUS whether she likes it or not? And to say that those who support McCain/Palin are fear-mongering — well, why be such a coward? why not come right out and accuse them of having their fears grounded in racism?
Why not take out a minute, instead, to check out the ties between Obama and a man who is (per article in link below) ” well known within the black community as a lawyer, an orthodox Muslim, a black nationalist, an author, an international deal-maker, an educator, and an outspoken enemy of Israel”
Did Obama pay his own way through law school with loans, as he claims? or did he receive support from a known Islamist? and if so, and if there is no harm in that, then why lie outright?

I cannot listen to Republicans talk about Obama and Ayers.
The Obama-Ayers relationship was insignificant compared to the ongoing relationship between McCain and Liddy.
Liddy advocated the murder of federal agents on his radio show… and shortly after, Oklahoma City happened.
Now, I know many Conservatives who think that there was some justification for OKC because of the incident at Ruby Ridge. Liddy is one of these people. And I cannot see how Republicans can trump up all this false outrage over Obama’s distant associations with a reformed sixties militant….
Meanwhile McCain accepts money from and does talks for Liddy.
(Not to mention Palin’s ongoing ties with armed separatists in Alaska).
You cannot even call it a double standard… because Obama’s associations are weak tea compared to McCain’s associations which are like amphetamines in comparison.
I cannot wait to send McCain back to Arizona. His campaign has become a joke.

For mr. gaypastor, of course Obama is increasing to win! Inexperianced and too young? LOL
The same was said about Bill Clinton AND John F Kennedy!
The McCain and Palin have no integrity. If Obama doesn’t win it is simply because of the color of his skin, and America continues to go down the drain because of it..
McCain said, what less than a month ago… that the economy is in great shape. Must be easy to say that when you own so many houses. He hasn’t a clue, nor CARE how YOU are doing.
So..Do you want the truth, or a President who will only stick his head in the sand??? Well??? Republicans hate change, and we are SUFFERING because of it!

Re: Obama’s present response. Here in Illinois it is a common practice to say Present when one is for the bill ,b ut there have been add ons that one opposes. Evidently they do this in several states. I copied this from Eric Zorn’s column in the Tribune. So Please Stop spreading falsehoods!
From The Tribune:
Because bills need “yes” votes to pass, “present” translates to “a soft no,” as Deputy Republican Senate Leader Christine Radogno of Lemont put it.
“One use for it is when you favor an idea, but you think the bill has a fatal flaw of some sort,” she said. “Another is when you have a conflict of interest. And another is when you want to play both sides of the fence . . . or to avoid casting a vote that your next opponent will try to take out of context.”
Across the aisle, Sen. John Cullerton, a Chicago Democrat, defined “present” as “no with an explanation.”
Cullerton said another use of the seemingly squirrelly vote is to “signify displeasure with the process, but not the concept.” He added that you’d be hard-pressed to find members of the General Assembly—including key allies of John McCain—who don’t use it from time to time for various reasons.
Illinois legislators have been casting “present” votes since at least 1931, according to the House clerk’s office. But the idea hasn’t swept the nation.
A recent survey by the National Conference of State Legislatures found that only Colorado, Delaware, Massachusetts, Missouri and Texas allow similar options in at least one chamber.

I hope Obama wins the election and his ties to terrorists, hate-groups, and his foreign influences are brought to the surface. We can then impeach him and that will be the end of the Democratic party. We almost did it when skirt-chasing Bill was impeached, but somehow he survived to chase another’s wife. Anyway, Obama will be good for the nation, waking up all of the blind. We will then start to realise how careful we need to be in choosing a President. Vote for Obama.
Future history books will list the Presidents in order, ….Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama?, …….and teachers will deliver a lesson to all of the youngsters about the importance of not repeating your mistakes, how America stood up and exposed it’s own weaknesses and our ability to be deceived. Electing Obama will make the USA stronger and wiser. I really wanted Hillary just so I would have something to laugh at.

Why wont Palin not testify for Troopergate? Palin’s taxes look fishy? If she was working from home so much why was she getting a per diem? Why were her kids traveling so much on govt money? Cut Medicare and social security but not cut her kids travel? Why did she hire her unqualified high school friends to top jobs in Alaska with top pay? Why did she make rape victims pay for their rape kits and medical tests?

Liddy paid his debt to society, Ayres slipped thru the cracks on a fruit of the poison tree technicality,ie, 4th ammendment wire tapping. In vetting Palin, the left has done everything but sniff her panties on the clothes line.Obama started his political career in the Ayres/Dorn living room.Obama distributed millions for Ayres’ Annenberg challenge and those files are now i lcok down at Illinois Universtiy.Once the Clintons’ were shouted down there was no way and never will be a proper vetting of the extrme left wing gay mafia, moveondotorg Obama.Once those two groups jumped on the Obama bandwagon it provided cover for the monolithic black vote to melt away on the Clinton’s , leaving Hilary with the femeoinist vote and the last vestiges ofmoderate democrats aka Reagan Democrats.Lastly, now that Congress has successfully scapegoated Wall St for the economy, when it was CONGRESSIONAL MANDATES that forced Wall Street to relax lending standards, lend to deadbeats who should have been renters, LAY OFF THE RISK by bundlong the FNMA/Freddie paper which accounts for 50% of mortgage money we finally will have a Marxist dream come true with Obama, Pelosi, and Reid at the helm.PEACEFUL Secession from the NORTH EAST and the West Coast with the great lakes states choosing where they want to be is our nation’s last best hope.

This Ayres smear is a ridiculous red herring meant to distract us from real issues, like, oh, a trillion dollar war, a trillion dollar financial collapse, an oil shortage and climate crisis that will ravage the world, and unemployment rates that are only going to get worse, and worse, and worse. As for Ayres, not only did these events take place 40 years ago, but Ayres turned himself in in 1980 and wrote letters of apology to the man he wounded expressing his remorse. All of this was still fifteen years before he ever met Obama! Since then Ayres became a distinguished university professor writing books on youth education and on the social and psychological factors that lead young people to commit violent crime, obviously an attempt to address and understand his own troubled past. If Ayres was ever a criminal, he is certainly not one now and hasn’t been for decades. Either way, it has nothing to do with Obama.

I’m not an US citizen yet. I was born in India and have been in US for 10+ years. I love this country deeply as it truly is one of the very few that stands for decency, mutual respect, hardwork, intellect, reason and most of all, liberty. You may be voting for the president of united states, come november but remember the whole world is watching as we near the polls. There is a good reason why US is a towering lighthouse around the world and everyone in pursuit of liberty tries to get here. This is a country, that against overwhelming odds and majority, passed the civil rights act, women’s right to vote etc. Americans are known to do what is right rather than what is popular.
I’m personally attracted to the liberatarian and conservative principles (as would most from the developing nations) and may pretty much qualify me as a republican. However, the party of lincoln has become a joke now. Sarah palin is not qualified by any standards and john mccain has pushed himself to the newest low. Sen. McCain, in my opinion, has some of the dumbest strategists in his campaign. It is pathetic that they have not been able to take McCain’s veteran record and experience to a winning strategy. They have run the most confusing campaign that i’ve ever seen - Experience, Change, personality-contests, Mavericks… I doubt that even if sen. Mccain would know where he stands or what his campaign strategy is anymore.
Irrespective of the outcome in this election, Republicans need to wake up. You need to go back to your principles and become the party of lincoln - Again - If you ever want to win the hearts and minds of the americans and people around the world.

Obama the reformer. Just take a look at the opportunities he’s had to truly help reform the Chicago Machine. Believe it or not there are facts and dates of votes betraying the poor people of Chicago to the thugs who have taxed that city to death to line their own pockets and those of their relatives. Just look up his supporting role of John Stroger only back in 2006, the scandalous former Pres. of the Cook County Board of Commissioners and how Obama had the chance to support a true reformer,Forrest Claypool, intent on ridding the county of the Stroger machine when Strogers son mysteriously ended up on the ballot upon his fathers debilitating stroke. Even the Republican Politicians were voting for the Democratic reformer, Claypool to unit for change. Obama has already shown his true reforming colors. Not a word did he speak on behalf of Claypool, his personal friend! He did write a letter before the November election: “Today we write to urge your attention to one race in particular. Our friend, Todd Stroger, former state representative and alderman, is candidate for pres. of the Cook County Board Please consider voting for Todd…Todd is a good progressive Democrat who will bring those values and sensibilities to the job.” A symbol of corruption is what the Stroger name has stood for for 2 generations thanks to Obamas endorsement. President Stroger, after his death, it was written, has also been accused of padding the county payroll with polictical cronies and relatives, being more open to tax increases than cutting waste and installing polictical pals in high-paying jobs in the Cook County Forest Preserve District while laying off the people responsible for picking up the garbage and cleaning the toilets. And then there’s his support of the Chicago Daly machine……Daly’s aids Robert Sorich and Timothy McCarthy were indicted in 2005 and convicted in 2006 on mail fraud charges related to the patronage hiring routinely done by Daley. Obama still endorsed Daly in 2007. He’s not for reform, he’s for whatever will bring power his way regardless to whom he owes promises. Sounds like an upstanding young man to me. Time to reform America! You can be sure to trust Obama. His record of compassionate reform is something to behold.

I wonder who people like Roddy think they’re fooling with their specious little posts in comment threads.
Then again, maybe you have a good explanation for what he once considered “the worst mistake of [his] life,” is something his campaign now claims he has done absolutely nothing wrong on. Perhaps you can explain why the Senate held he displayed a “lack of judgment,” something we all love to see in a President, during these events. Perhaps you can explain how having charges dropped due to “lack of jurisdiction” (McCain was in the House rather than the Senate during some of this fiasco) is the same thing as being cleared of wrongdoing.

But by his voting record and what he stands for today. Rolling Stone . . In fact, his own statements show that he has been on both sides of a host of vital issues: the Bush tax cuts, the estate tax, waterboarding, hunting down terrorists in Pakistan, kicking Russia out of the G-8, a surge of troops into Afghanistan, the GI Bill, storing nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain, teaching intelligent design, fully funding No Child Left Behind, offshore drilling, his own immigration policy and withdrawal timelines for Iraq. Have you learned nothing in life? Obama CANNOT say he supports gay marraige because it would mobilize the right’s whacko christionists and leave his Democratic butt on the curb in November, as gay issues have in the last 4 elections. By saying he’s against it, the issue is mercifully off the table. Do you really believe after 8 years of Bush pretending to be pious, patriotic and strong that honestly presenting your beliefs would get a Democrat into the White House? You can’t govern or lead people to an enlightened view of gay rights if you don’t win the election. I applaud a democratic party that’s learning to play as underhanded as the right, which would sell out this country for a few bucks, without giving you a second thought. But good luck with your empty-headed motivation.

The very things that made McCain a successful fighter pilot make him unsuited to be presidemt. A fighter pilot must make split second decisions. There is no time for thoughtful planning. There is a reason why the previous military presidents were generals. Generals are thoughtful planners. John McCain has run his campaign just like a fighter pilot - moving quickly from one instant decision to the next. This is not what I want leading our country. I want someone capable of looking thoughfully at the future, taking in alturnative ideas and proceeding with the best plan. That is why I want Obama - a thoughtful man in the top office. I think you idiots are gonna have to steal this election as well if you want mccain to win.
188. Andrew | 10.06.08
None of you Republitools have the slightest idea how government works. You all put Bush in office because he told you he’d clean up Washington. Clean up what? Oh, that’s right. He cleaned up nothing, he just tried to circumvent our Constitution and the checks and balances it has (checks and balances that are necessary to prevent anyone from turning this democracy into a dictatorship).
WE CAN’T DO THIS AGAIN!
You all need to realize that McCain is Bush III. This can’t happen again. Does anyone really think that this smear campaign can last for the next 29 days? People will be over it tomorrow, and then worried about their finances again. McCain will have no answers for them, only fingers to point at Obama.
Remember, when you point your finger at someone else, there are always three pointing back at you.
189. Ed | 10.06.08
Steve (# 9), you are an idiot. Keep your thoughtless comments to yourself. Thanks.
190. Michael | 10.06.08
John McCain and Sarah Palin have the most integrity, experience and focus to get the country back on track. Obama and his cronies will certainly make things worse. If you think the House and Senate are out of control now, you’ll really get a shock if the Democratic ticket gets elected and they control it all. Terrorists around the world will rejoice, knowing that they can plan and carry out more attacks like 9/11. Is this what you want?
Answer these questions:
Do you want your life and the lives of your children and grandchildren adversely affected by liberal Supreme Court judges, a liberal president and a liberal congress?
I urge you to realize the consequences of your vote, as all votes will count this year.
191. Kevin | 10.06.08
How long have we known Obama? one year. There is a lot about him we have not known. People get frustrated because of the war and economy and look for another option which is Obama. What many people don’t want to know is McCain is not Bush.
192. Gabe | 10.06.08
I think the republican party has something up its sleeve. It better. I dont think Obama is a terrorist blah blah he is just a socialist. Also the fact that our enemies around the world want to see him elected scares me. I am worried that he would be indecisive in a crisis due to his inexperience and to easily swayed by the bad people he has surrounded himself with - much like Dubya was. Palin was a terrible choice so I hope the Rebuplican party has something devastating on Obama because I believe Obama will make people beg for the days of Jimmy Carter
Our enemies? so you base your vote on what our enemies think? maybe they realize that Obama is a level headed person who will listen to people instead of dropping bombs on people for oil. You do realize that we MADE enemies they dont “hate our freedom” maybe if we could reason with people instead of kill them we would be more liked around the world. maybe that’s why “our enemies” like Obama. Guess what? so do all our allies. Maybe Obama is just a far better person than Bush and maybe other people realize that Mccain is just like bush.
maybe they know more about the candidates than you do? they say if you want to know about america ask a foreigner

To Steve Zabriskie–
I too am a small business owner. About double the gross and employee 5 part time people. Everything I’ve read says my taxes will go down as well as my employees! When you speak, speak intelligently. Name calling is like shouting, both are employed when the substance of your arguement is thin. I suggest you just say, “Hey I’m a lifelong republican,” or “I can’t vote for a black man” at least you would say this quietly and be on point.
Let’s face it, the republican party has been in complete charge for 6 of the last 8 years and occupied the white house for the last 8. Judging from how you described your business, I don’t see the republicans doing you any great favors. WAKE UP, GET PAST YOUR INABILITY TO SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY! (There might be more profit in your business if you do). This country –and the world–is a mess right now, in so many ways. It’s time for a change, you’ve been sold out by your own party.
194. Jim Daugherty | 10.06.08
Why the Republicans afraid that Obama will become President?
1. A blackperson will become president.
2. Bush/Cheney will be exposed and sent to prison for High Treason.
3. The xenophobia that has been fed to the country will be exposed and people will know the real reason for all the fake terror alerts, namely to create fear, uncertainty and doubt while raping the economy and the poor.
4. Where does it say in the constitution that a muslim cannot be president? Obama’s middle name happens to be Hussain that does not make him Saddam’s next of kin.
Palin is archetypal of Christians out there, They have a one on one relationship with Christ and myopic view of the world,” I love you Jesus, but I hate all these colored people and muslims, make them go away Jesus!
They tithe because it makes them feel good they are supporting their pastor and by extension Jesus, and then all that money get them tax reductions, it is a win win situation, you win temporally and you win eternally.
195. joan | 10.06.08
I just heard Mccain wants to cut medicare to help pay for his health care plan. Look out grandma he coming after you. Oh he wants to up the age too.
196. Indy-pendent | 10.06.08
Steve Zabriskie, you do realize that your taxes are based on your net not on your gross right? Under Obama’s plan I believe your taxes will actually stay the same or decrease. If McCain wins ,hopefully your employees don’t receive medical benefits from you. If they do, however, your employees will really take it in the rear. His grand plan is to take money from your right hand and stick it in your left hand on the condition that you give it to his buddies in the insurance industry.

Who is this Barack Obama his rivals scream
Who is this man that represents the American dream

I hope Bill Ayers decides to file a defamation and slander lawsuit against Palin, and McCain. He was never convicted of any terrorist acts, and is now a respected professor at a respected college. For Palin, and McCain to talk about him the present tense as to being a terrorist, Ayers needs to take them to court, and I will gladly send $100 bucks to Ayers legal fund, if he does it.
199. Joe | 10.06.08
In response to Mr Powell.
Sir? If you would take a few minutes to fact check any of the charges you assume are true regarding Senator Obama , you would see its all part of a smear campaign. { I know , there is always a way to justify/qualify these statements by just spinning words.}
Unsubstantiated allegations put forth by a Presidential candidate are unacceptable… Sorta reminds me of GW’s “Swift Boat” tingie. I can’t vote for McCain/Palin. And I’m a 21 year registered Republican. I just make my own decisions… I don’t follow the flock :}

Sarah Palin is not only the sleaziest politician I can remember in my 47 years, she is also one of the most dangerous. I was lukewarm on Obama-Biden until this piranha came along. She and her husband “pal around” with Alaska Indepence Party secessionists and she incites violence against Obama at her rallies. Someone yelled out “Kill him” at a rally after she railed and railed about Obama, all the while smiling and winking. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/10/06/in_fla_palin_goes_for_the_roug.html

And by the way, Senator Obama was born in Hawaii. I can’t for the life of me figure out why people are questioning his citizenship. Take a gander at McCain. He was born in Panama. I wonder how he got around that. I guess cause they say he was born on a US military base, even though it was in Panama.
202. Wayne | 10.06.08
For any of you McCain supporters who think he is “stable and decisive” and a”maverick” should read Tim Dickinson’s article in Rolling Stone Magazine titled “Make Believe Maverick”. It reveals his record of recklessness and dishonesty as no other material I have read. It especially has some revealing insights into his Navy career and POW experience. McCain’s military record is less than “heroic”. He put John McCain first and his comrades second, just as he will with the American people if we fall for his
“Maverick” ****. His life after his miltary service follows the same pattern, McCain first, eveything else second, accoding to the article. He is an angry and erratic man, and makes irrational decisons. Read the article and decide if you still want to vote for this dangerous man. He will do great harm to America. His choice of Palin shows his irrational decision making process. Vote Obama/Biden!!

Hmmmm Christian. Do the rest of your links call your statements FALSE as does the link to Snopes? Shame on you, is Sarah’s bad manner and faulty information catching?
Everyone, be sure to go to the snopes link on Christian’s multiple posts and see what it really says.
The more the McCainites and Palinites lie, the more it’s obvious they are running scared. Trying to turn a page and stop talking about the economy only indicates how little John McCain understands the concerns of the citizens of this country.
And someone sent Palin the wrong vetting questionaire and she thought she was auditioning for Saturday Night Live. Nope, Ms. Fey already got that job, Gal. But you could have it when she retires, you’re good at being over the top silly. Of course you’ll have to wipe that smirk off your face. Can you pronounce s-e-r-i-o-u-s? Well, with the economy in the tank, you should learn.

MkKKain is driving his “Lying with a Straight Face” Express, with Palin as the hood ornament. Over the bridge to nowhere…..
Only a fool would throw stones from a glass house. I don’t know how to describe a man who throws stones from about a dozen glass houses…. Needs a reality check.
And Palin, what is she going to do when she has lawsuits and investigations underway on her? In this case - SHE is under investigation and might end up charged and convicted. Not someone that was an acquaintance or someone that lived in the neighborhood.
And it is Palin whose husband was part of an organization, at which she spoke and seemed to support, for the cessation of Alaska from the United States. Now Palin might be excused ’cause cessation is a big word - you can betcha she did not understand it. But she is married to her husband and that is more than an acquaintance - we know, just look at the litter they produced.
In the end, if MkKKain really pursues his usual form of “change” - which is changing the subject so no one can see that he has no clothes, the MkKKain / Palin ticket, will become a joke. And the American cannot afford a ticket with two clowns on it. The clown in office is enough.

Plain and simple liberal media is pathetic and democratic views only work on paper, kind of like communism. Getting government involve in to much doesn’t work. example, housing market, and here in the corrupt state of taxachusetts excuse me Massachusetts Welfare, it’s a joke. And for any lazy liberal, aka anyone who gets their information from the media and soaks it up believing every lie pumped into their face, your wrong. Getting involved in the Freddy and Fanny couldn’t be a more left winged idea. With left wing lies and deception it was able to be pulled off during a republican congress. For the lazy man who wants government to run their life for them vote democrat, give up more of your rights and money to the government…
Take note at how much federal money you get back in taxes this year. If Obama wins, take note of how much you owe…
Joe Biden is a good man just not very educated of facts. Half his debate was based on lies, but you wouldn’t get that from the media. If the lovely Palin told half the ridiculous lies that Biden did she would have been crucified. It’s really sad to see how ill informed most of the US is.

Get REAL people…………….McCain-Palin campaign is undermining peoples’ intellect and making American people look stupid by stirring non-substantial claims and decisions!!!!! I’m an independent voter and NOT voting for these “Mavericks”
1) making stupid decisions
2) not dealing with real crisis in hand (financial meltdown)
3) desperate and hungry for power
4) liars
5) less interest in US economy and hungry for war

I marvel at how embittered Republicans are blaming the current financial crisis on Clinton, and are already trying to pin any future financial troubles we might have on Obama. What about this trillion-dollar war we didn’t need? What about the last eight years of failed economic policy? The fact of the matter is, the Reagan days are over: tax cuts for the wealthy don’t work. Bush has tried, and tried, and look where we are now: the gap between rich and poor in this country has never been greater. The rich are astronomically wealthy (this explains McCain’s comment that anyone who makes less than $5 million is “middle class”), and middle-class families are going bankrupt over mortgages they can’t pay and medical bills they can’t afford, even WITH health insurance. If we continue to neglect less fortunate Americans with an elitist Republican platform, just wait and see: we will be back to the state of the 1970s, when urban crime was out of control and whole cities were going bankrupt.

McCain makes the cover of the Rolling Stone! Unfortunately for him, it’s in relation to this month’s feature article “The Real John McCain.” The article really connects the dots on all the things we’ve heard about McCains unsavory past, including interviews with his fellow prisoners of war. Being a rich spoiled brat who has under achieved his way to the top is just one more connection to his George Bush.
212. smearspotter | 10.06.08
I think it is “highsterical” (as my kids would say)that McCain is saying we don’t know who Obama is. This is the same McCain who two months ago picked a person nobody in this country had ever heard of (even Fox was supposedly was having to look her up on Wikipedia)to be next in line to run the country, Sarah -I-dont-read-I-retaliate-against-people-who-won’t-do- my-illegal-bidding-including-the-town-librarian-who-didn’t-want-to-ban-books-I-am married-to-a-sucessionist-Palin.
Ayers was on the board of the Annenberg foundation whose founders were friends Nancy and Ron Reagan. I think we better check into who Reagan was paling around with. We know that McCain regualarly vacationed with Keating. Americans are not as stupid as Karl Rove and his surrogates might think. The days of the $60 billion in tax-free bonuses for people who don’t do anything more than churn money for themselves and their cronies are over.
213. Joan Butterworth | 10.06.08
Given the tack that John McCain and Sarah Palin have taken today (Monday, Oct. 6th), I’m truly embarrassed and deeply ashamed on behalf of the “old John McCain.” I voted for the man in the 2000 primaries. He was completely sandbagged by just the sort of behavior he’s perpetrating now, but he condemned it strongly when it was perpetrated by George W. Bush.
John McCain swore he’d never sink that low.
Something has happened to him. I believe there was a time that he wanted to be honorable more than he wanted to “win.” He once was a man of courage and honor who spoke truth, and was willing to be honest about what was best for America, even when it didn’t advance his party’s interests. (Which is why it’s now hard for him to work with the party, despite his recent conversion.)
I feel such grief, at the loss of that person, the old, mythical John McCain. Has he developed some kind of savior complex and think he’s the only one on the planet who can possibly serve as president, thereby somehow justifying this behavior? I just don’t understand.
I particularly don’t understand how he could betray us all, every citizen and soldier in the United States, by choosing Sarah Palin to potentially succeed him. It’s his obligation, as a presidential candidate, to choose someone able to lead us both as the chief executive and as commander-in-chief should he be unable to. At the age of 72, and having had several very serious incidences of melanoma… he must surely know that he can’t count on living 8 years, 4 years, or even 1 year. (None of us can, but even less so in his case.)
How… how could he DO this to us? To himself? To his reputation? To the country? It’s so very, very wrong.

We are not better off today than we were eight years ago. For the last eight years the republicans controled the executive branch and the congress. In the first four years the president never even gave one veto of any republican bill. Look around, have your neighbors lost their job, their house, their retirement, their health insurance. Everyone has lost 35% of the dollar value when compared to the world market.

A Freddie Mac Money Trail Catches Up With McCain
“Rick is a friend, and I trust him,” McCain told NEWSWEEK last year.
Last week, though, McCain’s trust in Davis was tested again amid disclosures that Freddie Mac, the troubled mortgage giant that was recently placed under federal conservatorship, paid his campaign manager’s firm $15,000 a month between 2006 and August 2008.

For those right wing rants that are worried about parents of kids who have died in Iraq, please note, no matter how the war ends, the unfortunate part is that they died. Of course in valor, but unfortunately, and without their knowledge, they fought for the big shots in Republican machinery that won war contracts without bids, for cronies who made money out of the deals. There are no WMD, there WAS no Al Qaeda until the invasion, and all the 3950 that died, died AFTER Saddam was captured. The big pigs will still come out smelling of roses, but parents across the country that had their lives shattered by their losses, will never have their lives repaired back. The pigs will still keep talking about patriotism.

Which of us can say we have no skeletons? An affiliation with someone does not make them evil and incapable of being a leader. I suppose one could argue that McCain spent years living with Communists. No I wouldn’t make such an argument, but it serves to point out that digging deep into someones past to find a piece of dirt does not help anyone, especially when it is a distortion of the truth. McCain got trashed by Rove the same way last time he ran, one would think he would be above it; it’s disappointing. What I really want is to hear real things: issues, platforms, intelligent discussion, instead it’s like listening to my 4 year call other kids names on the playground. I suppose that McCain and Obama will start pushing each other next. Can everyone just take a time out?

palin is herself a very close friend of people she would label as domestic terrorists:
her witch doctor was exactly that in kenya as he terrorized others whom he judged to be “unders spells” and drove them from the cities they lived in and
her husband who belonged to an extremist terrorist group who hates the US and wants Alaska to declare its independence from the US . Recently, she made a speech praising this domestic terrorist group.
Palini is a traitor to this country for her allegiance to these terrorists, adn should be asked to either denounce BOTH of them…or resign. She cannot take an oath of office while palin around with known terrorists.

Just heard that McCain wants to cut medicare by over one trillions dollars; he made this “announcement” today in Florida. Watch for his poll numbers to go down by a good-sized margin. He is messing with something older people have paid into for years and who have worked hard to get these benefits during their golden years. Unbelievable!! I am a life long democrat and have worked hard for this party in past elections. I just can’t pull that lever for Obama. The man speaks eloquently but I can’t see any substance or integrity. He may be the lesser of two evils but America we are in for one **** of a bumpy ride. Please don’t believe it will be smooth sailing with this man. The flood gates will be open and watch out because we may fall deeper into a pit. A congress, senate and white house democratic will not be in the best interest of this country. The democrats are apart of the financial mess we are all facing. America wake up and realize we are all to blame.

Whatever you think of Obama on the issues, he loves America. He is a good man. What an absolute joke the McCain campaign has become. We don’t need this junk in American politics. As bad as campaigns have been in the past, Palin has taken the lies and mud-slinging to a new low. She is disgusting. Americans can agree to disagree. We don’t need to start accusing our political opponents of sympathizing with terrorists. Grow-up Ms. Palin.

Our founding fathers would be very angry at McCain and at you. Weren’t they they very founding fathers who declared that all people in our United States are equal and that we all have the same freedoms and opportunities? Give up on your Muslim crapola!! Muslim is a religion and Muslims are good people with the exception of the radicals, you know, people like you who are way out in left field?? I have heard that Obama has secret connections with people from Mars (the planet, that is), and that he has been paid to sell the country to them (remember that big house he is living in?) Why is this not being discussed? He is clearly not a good earthling and therefore should not be president of our great nation!
So tell your friends! Write it on your wall! Call your senator! Or better: call 911!

I served from 91-98 in the US military under Bill Clinton my CIC. Did I like his views.no..did it matter ..no. He was My CIC (commander in chief). I rejoined in a reserve unit in 2007 at the ripe old age of 36 on the condition they deploy me because I am so sick of seeing 19 year old marines coming home in flag draped boxes on the news and I wanted, honestly, revenge. I am deploying in January and I want to tell the arguing factions out there that we need to come together. America is tearing itself apart while our enemies sit back and laugh. I am not asking ALL to come together not the Right wing nuts and the code pink morons but the 90% in between. The corrupt politicians have divided and conquered us. “The fires of **** are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government… And I won’t be buried under their damn flag,” - Joe Vogler in 1991, Founder of the Alaska Independence Party.
Now we know haw Sarah feel about the US….She pals around with terrorists.
236. willie in Kansas | 10.07.08
So Sarah goes and tries to make Barack Obama a terrorist. Well using the same analogy I guess since I served in Desert Storm in the 16th Infantry Regiment and exchange words with Tim McVeigh I would be unqualified to be President. You know getting kids their education was the issue Obama took on for the children of Chicago. Sometimes, we cross paths with individuals who don’t share our values, but we deal with them professionally to reach our goal. When I went to Desert Storm my goal was to bring all my soldiers home. Obama was to bring education to the children of Chicago. So, once again McCain and Palin makes themselves hollowed with their deception. What matters is the economy, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, breast cancer research, AIDS research, creating competition in the energy market place. Sarah Palin is just a distraction and I’m not buying it. The reason she doesn’t talk to the media is because half the media has figured out she simply does not have the foresight and the judgement to be VP, much less be President. She’s not a pitbull, she is more like a chihuahua, barks a lot and then goes and hides and shivers in fear at the same time. Sure she makes her stump speeches and she is as popular as the Grand Master Dragon at a *** Rally. This election is not about McCain nor Obama it is about me the American citizen, family man, blue collar, and a proud veteran. McCain and Palin like to talk a lot of trash. I know they and their GOP friends talk about pro life. So, how can a party who is pro-life picked a person who is ready to go to war, even before getting to the White House? What has the GOP done to stop abortions? Have they even supported a program to give mothers other options to abortion? The answer is NO. Is is just an empty promise. I don’t understand anyone who think McCain and Palin really offer a bright future. They just don’t have a clue. Reform, reform, change, change, real change….uhumm…how, who, what, where, why. McCain has had 30 years to show leadership. He said he tried to stop the mortgage debacle and he simply failed. Need I say more. He is no leader. His is just a white hair guy, who doesn’t know me, what I go thru, what my aspirations are. Sarah is pretty, I value her faith, and her family. However, these attacks on Obama, and the way the GOP and their propagandistas operate, shows a clear lack of integrity on McCain and Palin. I stick to my values honor, integrity, and patriotism. I’m voting for Obama. I’m a US War Veteran, and I approve this message.

Poor Sarah Palin, shoutin’ and flailin’, flingin’ some old moose doo-doo. She don’t have to read, she don’t have to think, and she’s got her sights set on you. Please Mrs. Dude, don’t be so darned rude, don’t stoop to those old Karl Rove tricks! If you’re gonna run, put down that big gun, put away all the stones and the sticks. Remember Old McCain, who’s now such a pain, the way he once talked straight and true? C’mon, Sarah Palin, this tactic is failin’, let’s hear somethin’ honest from you. (GObama!)

I suggest that Sarah spend some time on the PUMA website: http://www.justsaynodeal.com to get some information about Obama that needs to be brought to the public’s attention.

Obama/Biden have got restraint, class and finesse. They are extremely intellegent and are for the people. The young voters of today are not tainted by the old politics and negativity and know that Obama is the right choice. My nephew is a medic in Iraq and he recently saw his best friend blown to pieces in front of him. He tried his best to put his friend back together however he could not and this friend was sent home in a body bag instead. My nephew is going to have to live with this the rest of his life. He is a true hero not a psuedo, self proclaimed hero who fudged his military record’s as McCain did. This would never have happened if it were not for the war mongers in government right now, the republicans. Shame On You!!!!!!! Obama/Biden have my vote! They are for the REAL CHANGE.

Hello America!
I must tell you that watching the media ochestrate
this American Election has embarrassed me on your
part.
Never have I seen such hatred, bigotry, and
blatant partisanship in my life.
The rest of the world are laughing at you.
I apologise for saying this, but it is true.
Your candidates for this election are all liars
and if I may say, ‘messiah Obama’, has the press in the tank.
Intelligent minds at work indeed.
Obama’s lofty rhetoric will not save you,
nor will McCain’s erratic ‘maverick’ stance.
I support a free, fair, and democratic society.
Thank God I live in South Africa.
I wish you all the best.

McCain / Palin are giving up on the “Country first” theme. The new push is “If I can’t have it nobody will” They are fomenting hate. They are spreading lies. They are trying to divide people, make them suspect one another, tempt them to destruction through fear of their neighbors. They are plotting the debilitation of an Obama / Biden administration. They are trying to sabotage any effort to right this country.

ToTo 252, your Nephew is a “real hero” and unfortunately his situation isn’t really the exception but, it isn’t really the “the rule” either let the ultra-rightwing elements install their team of McCain-Palin at 1600 P. Ave. in Washington and I assure you they and the Pentagon will make your nephew’s unfortunate situation become the rule. I am taking the “gloves off” so to speak. This last deployment in Iraq I attended a class that is mandatory for Field Grade Commanders deploying into Iraq. The Class is called the Phoenix Academy; proctored by one self-acclaimed “Dr. Chin; DoD career and tenured psychological profiler for the SF community. Dr. Chin’s assistant instructor was someone claiming to be a former Israel citizen purportedly from the Tiberius region but, when I tested him with a cordial greeting in Hebrew I soon discovered that he was unable to speak Hebrew which in my mind seriously casts doubt on his assumed persona and credentials. Instead of teaching these leaders more efficient techniques for saving lives and bringing closure to the US and Iraqi people in this War situation, they instead focused on condemning the state of Israel and engaged in gross speculation about the conspiratorial and evil activities of the Jewish State. Do not let yourself be misled; these guys are caught in a violent cycle of hate that originates in their self-constructed, primal fear originated, “Book of Revelations” which validates their innate desire to escalate violence. In short, our country for the last eight years and quite possibly 20 years has been in the grips of zealots. All the adherents of the religions of Abraham must be able to understand the dangers of zealotry. I will just simply quote Sinclair Lewis “When Fascism comes to America it will be draped in the Flag and carrying the Cross” A McCain-Palin executive branch will end the democratic system in America and will force other nations “out of a sense of survival” to deal with America differently. You must acknowledge that the slogans embraced and promulgated by the Republican Party i.e. “My country right or wrong” are not new, repeatedly, and factually, this sort of thought has been the catalyst for unprecedented tragedy and misfortune throughout World history.

I liked John McCain before he picked Sarah Palin as a running mate. I was an undecided voter. After seeing Sarah Palin speak and learning more about her I am appalled at his choice. She is in no way qualified to be in the White House. I doubt she is qualified to be the governor of the great state of Alaska. I lost a tremendous amount of respect for John McCain for choosing someone so ignorant and divisive. If he wanted a woman to be his running mate there were many well qualified alternatives that I would have voted for. As it stands, I will be voting for Obama/Biden in November. It is a sad day when a man like John McCain turns into someone so mean spirited and shows such a lack of respect for this country. Choosing her as a running mate proves that he has lost all respect for America. No one in their right mind would put this woman near the white house.

Alfonso @ 63 said: “Best line I’ve heard so far…”Sarah Palin should be reminded that Jesus Christ was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a Governor.””
Great point Alfonso. And remember those dudes who signed that declaration of independence thing? You know, the ones who told the English to shove off: Another bunch of community organizers.
246. KJeanne | 10.07.08
I agree with Kimberly about McCain…how could any thinking person, and most especially a man hoping to be our next president, put a person like Palin in the second highest office of our country? How could he believe she is qualified to be President??? Doesn’t he feel any responsibility to this Nation that he claims to love so much??? If he feels he gave everything in the POW camps where he learned to love American, where has that love gone????

Can someone confirm if this is true about Palin?
As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a city administrator, as Salon wrote:
When Palin ran for mayor, she dismissed concerns about her lack of managerial expertise by saying the job was “not rocket science.” But after a tumultuous start, marked by controversial firings and lawsuits against the city, Palin felt compelled to hire a city manager named John Cramer to steady the ship.“After all her boasting about her executive experience, what did she do?” asks a longtime borough official, who, like many in local circles, requested anonymity because of Palin’s reputation for vengeance. ..“The borough takes care of most of the planning, the fire, the ambulance, collecting the property taxes. And on top of that she brought in a city manager to actually run the city day to day.”
The Anchorage Daily News reported about the city administrator position:
(Palin was) reworking the city budget to find money for the $50,000-a-year position, which had been empty for several years. Critics said it showed she wasn’t up to the job, but Palin defended it as necessary for the fast-growing city.
The Washington Post reported more on Wasilla’s government:
The universe of the mayor of Wasilla is sharply circumscribed even by the standards of small towns, which limited Palin’s exposure to issues such as health care, social services, the environment and education.

At this time during the Gore/Bush campaign, Gore was ahead by 11 points. So “don’t stick a fork in the turkey, yet”.
If the electoral vote ends in a tie, then the election is sent to the Senate. It is entirely possible for the Senate to go for a Obama/Palin combination. It could all be very freaky. It is still possible for the speaker of the house to call for martial law to be imposed, as she has mentioned it recently.
These are strange times that we are living in, right now!!!!
The debate, tonight is critical to each candidates campaign, and the topic that most voters want to be addressed is the credit crisis.

Elect Obama! And hope he does as he promises, which is to emulate Hoover and FDR, both of whom taxed the very devil out of people well enough off to provide jobs for the unemployed and making it impossible for them to expand, and putting many others out of business, thereby prolonging a depression that would have cured itself if those two characters had stayed out of it. Anyway, we could probably use another Great Depression. Maybe people will start smoking again.

FACT: McCain cheated on, then left his wife after she had waited for him as a POW and had a terrbile car accident.
FACT: McCain was admonished by Congress for his inappropriate involvement with the Keating 5.
FACT: McCain’s choice to replace his wife became a multi-millionair heiress.
FACT; McCain tried to create a legistative group in Congress to monitor BOXING, the most corrupt sport on the planet and tried to drive Mixed Martial Arts and the UFC out of business — all the while receiving FREE TICKETS worth thousands of dollars to a boxing match where a boxer was killed.
FACT: McCain consfuses Shiites and Sunni. McCain confused Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Iran doesn’t know the geography of the region.
FACT: McCain ignores all reasonable studies and past history that show that the way to deal with an insurgency terror movement is through mostly police work or police work done by the military, not big clumsy military invasions.
FACT: McCain again showed a terrible misunderstanding of geography when he decried meeting the leaders of SPAIN. the question was about SPAIN, he started talking about South America.
OPINION: McCain is out of touch with modern warfare, geopolitics, and a strategy to defeat Islamic Terrorists. I’ll take SMARTS over damaged, tired, old, jaded, corrupt life-long politicans anyday.

I just don’t get why middle america vote Republican. The average income of middle america is much lower in comparison to the coast line states yet most states along the coast line are democrate. States in the heartland benefit way more from Democrate originated programs that lower taxes for the poor and tax the rich in terms of income and investment tax. How many people who live in the heart land can actually say the GOP has done them some good other than give them some feel good words? I mean Democrate started teach for america to get teachers into the rural area. Democrates who want to put more support for early education so our kids have a chance in this fast moving global economy. GOP only care about the rich. They don’t care about the lower to middle class who won’t gain much from lower investment tax and corporate tax.
So basically GOP has done is I will say whatever it takes to get elected but you know the people I serve are rich people.

Why are people stupid enough to vote for McCain on the basis of Palin? She is just another right wing extremist who makes vicious, sociopathic hate mongers like Hannity, Coulter & Limbaugh look downright liberal. Her views are way to the right of Atila the Hun and her Assembly of God Church seems to have no problems with the gross lies and half truths that Palin preaches when she speaks to crowds. She is not someone of substance and she has no problem compromising her so called Christian principles for the cause of helping her GOP masters to gain political power. This is the kind of person who conveniently mixes their religious views with their political views and the end result is never decision making that is based on sound personal judgement. Sound personal judgement and a moral compass is a serious deficit with both McCain and Palin.

Good article, right on. I just don’t get why middle America would vote for Obama. He does NOT represent middle America, he represents, “the World”. I for one want a Pres who LOVES America, faults and all. Not someone who hangs with an unrepentent terrorist.

What is with people and the “friends with terrorist” theme? I mean.. come on people… is it really so easy to tell you “his name sounds like Osama so he MUST be a terrorist!” -cuz by golly! iff’n your name sound kinda funny you must be one a them terrorist!

I too was a McCain supporter-however, after he caved and chose Sarah Palin instead of Joe Lieberman, started acting like George Bush’s “mini-me” by using exactly the same tactics they used against him when he ran against Bush, etc., I can no longer support him. He may have been a Maverick in the beginning of his campaign but now he’s just another Bush/GOP crony.

Dear gaypastor, AMEN to you!
I am also gay and Christian but have never voted gay issues exclusively. But, ya know, after learning that neither Obama or Mccain support gay marriage (which I only half heartedly support myself-but don’t want to deny others of their happiness) I am giving my vote to McCain.______________________________________________________________________
Hello! hate to bust your bubble Gay woman but McCrazy is against Gay marriage too. He is also against a women’s right to her own body…but you go ahead and vote for him…and watch what rights you do have disappear! This from another Gay woman, who unlike you, can think for herself!

Thank you 255. My heart is truely broken because of the pain inflicted on the innocent at the hands of these horrible leaders. I have to find something to believe in and Obama/Biden is the choice for me. I am a disabled 53 year old woman who has worked professionally in the Social Services field for 35+ years. I have worked with veterans who’s minds, hearts and spirits were destroyed because of the selfishness of our gonvernment leaders. I fear for my nephew and for others who have to go back, yet again, and report to Afghanistan for another tour (as ordered by the government). We need change. Not corrupted change which would come, without a doubt, with the McCain/Palin ticket. I apologise for sounding so passionate about this but ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!!! Vincent Buliosi (not sure about the spelling) is a master of the law. His recent book, “The Prosecution Of George W. Bush for Murder” tells it all. I would recommend this book to anyone. This is the same attorney who prosecuted Charles Manson and his followers for the Sharon Tate and many other murders during the 60’s. He also authored the book “Helter Skelter” which was the story of the murders and trials. Oh, by the way, I just finished watching the debate tonight and Obama obviously won based on all the numbers coming in. Again,we need change, REAL CHANGE!!!!
261. Ay_Lamb | 10.08.08
Merf-1 truly I feel for your sufferings and particularly for those of your nephew and your gratitude to me isn’t required I will just keep you in my thoughts and hope for improvement in your situation.
As I wrote, earlier this was my third deployment to Iraq and I found a measure of solace prior to departure in the thought that this time nothing would surprise me. Well I soon discovered I was wrong and again I learned those in authority will stop at nothing to validate their own insatiable appetites to dominate all those they perceive as opponents, competitors or those they feel are weaker.
They completely fear, despise and attack anything that is different; anything that does not fall within their parameters of normalcy. This is not a unique American attribute but rather a characteristic of humanity. We all have essential basic human needs correct? i.e. “Maslow’s hierarchy” but there is those among us that actually have needs far beyond food, water, shelter etc.

There is a lawsuit that challenges Obama’s eligibility to be president, he will not provide the needed papers to prove he is eligible, thus the reason for the lawsuit. Why has not Senator McCain challenged this,it seems pretty important.I have other paperwork that list his connections with Muslims some radicals, why is this not being discussed? This is not a personal attack on Obama, but a concern for our country as his allegiance is called into question in his various writings.
