Problems with Palin? “Pure, unadulterated baloney,” says McCain
By Jimmy Orr | 10.27.08
Rumblings of an out-of-control, renegade, rogue Sarah Palin surfaced again today when an unidentified source told a CNN reporter that the Republican vice presidential nominee went off message again.
CNN reported that unnamed McCain staffers were not pleased that Palin “went off script Sunday and turned attention back to the controversy over her wardrobe.”
What’s she doing?
The Alaska Governor has received criticism recently for other episodes where she appeared out of joint with the campaign from holding her own press availability with reporters (her own staff tried to shut it down), disagreeing with the campaign’s decision to pull out of Michigan (she offered up husband Todd to campaign there), and her voiced opposition to campaign “robo-calls” (she called the pre-recorded messages irritating).
All is well
When asked about the staff grumblings McCain told an Orlando anchorwoman everything was cool.
“That’s pure baloney; we get along fine,” McCain said. “There’s always a little infighting among staffs. That goes on. It always has.”
“Sarah and I could not be working more closely together,” he continued. “We’re on the same team. A couple of mavericks aren’t going to agree on everything.”
Looking out for #1
But grumbles of an off-message candidate grew to accusations of not quite mutiny but certainly self-serving, if not self-saving behavior, according to yet another CNN report yesterday.
A second McCain source says she appears to be looking out for herself more than the McCain campaign.
“She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone,” said this McCain adviser. “She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.”
Not so
But McCain is not buying into any of it.
“It is pure, unadulterated baloney that there is any problem,” he said. “You’ll always get unnamed staffers and will say things that reporters want to hear from time to time.”
What an anchor
The anchor went from this issue to praising Barack Obama’s campaign organization before telling him “your campaign seems to be still trying to get itself organized.”
“Really?” McCain harrumphed.
If there in any solace for McCain, it’s the same cranky anchor that Joe Biden had troubles with as well.
Not believing her line of questioning last week, Biden stopped the interview momentarily asking, “Are you joking?”
Biden’s wife later cancelled her appearance on the television station.

Can an anchor get a break. “How dare you ask me questions.” I guess these pols are so used to not doing their jobs that they take umbrage at anyone that does.
4. Jim | 10.27.08
Don’t these news organizations have a responsibility to at least name their source when accusations of this level are launched? Who are these so-called high-level McCain advisors? Are they official advisors? former advisors? In my 40 years of voting, I have never seen such outright fraud by both sides but especially by the Dems.

McCain-Palin Hypocracy
1. Judgement / Experience/ Country First claims of McCain: Sarah Palin for VP !! Gimme a break. The country cannot afford a dumb and crooked/cult character in White House
2. Reform: Sarah Palin was found guilty of Ethics Violation. She is still supporting Ted Stevens who is found guilty in criminal investigation. In fact Sarah used the same contractor as Stevens
3. Hockey Mom: $150,000 dress material from RNC a/c . Laughable. She is now trying to claim the jacket & is hers. What about the rest of hers and Todd?
4. USA First: Todd Palin belongs to a radical group claiming independence for Alaska from USA. How is Sarah any different? We will have broken America and NOT USA
5. Moral/Christian values: Sarah eloped and had a kid out of wedlock. Her daughter did the same. Is this conservative value? Sarah is opposed to abortion even in rape cases!!!
6. Eligibility for VP position: National Joke, Republican Curse; clueless of job requirements
7. NOPALIN | 10.27.08
Funny choice of words by McCain- “unadulterated.” Immediately reminded me of McCain’s past marital behavior. But that’s beside the point….Palin is saying what she wants, when she wants to. She clearly has no problem doing things exactly as SHE sees fit, which will certainly lead to abuse of power–something we already know she has been guilty of.
8. C Nelson | 10.27.08
Having finally exhausted the subject of Sarah Palin’s wardrobe, CNN now seems determined to beat this latest non-issue to death, even though unable to credit even one of its claims to any person other than “unnamed staffers”. Mainstream media efforts to campaign for Barack Obama have reached extreme proportions. Cooler heads in the media, if any remain, need to prevail.
9. ryan | 10.27.08
Why do you quote CNN? They are by far the worst network out there for the bias they project.
Why don’t you write your own opinion - if you are not going to get the facts - and stop quoting “unnamed” and probably fake sources.
There is another VEEP candidate by the name of Joe Biden and for all his “experience” I wonder how much he really knows too.

Senator McCain you had better choices than Sarah Palin - Country First - are you kiddihng me???
When will Sarah Palin release her medical records???
21. History Buff | 10.27.08
Palin is for Palin. She reminds me of a black widow spider who consumes her lover when he has satisfied her needs. She did it when she ran for Mayor and when she ran for Governor. Why should anyone be surprised that she is doing it to the national Republican Party now?
It’s time for the real Republicans to take back their party from the radical and religious right of Ronald Reagan, George Bush and Sarah Palin. The 25% fringe elements do not represent the ideals of most Republicans, who are fiscal conservatives looking to lead this nation without running up huge deficits.
Democrats have successfully pre-emted the mantle of fiscal responsibility the Republicans abandoned when Reagan came into office. The Reagan Republicans took our national debt from less than 1$ trillion to $4.5 trillion. Bush raised that to $10.7 trillion. In between those Republican spending sprees, the Democrats were able not only to run the government without increasing the National Debt but in fact reduced it!
If the Republican Party moved more to the political center, abandoning the radical right elements, they would be embraced by Independents who left because the party strayed from their centrist beliefs. The mainstream Republicans need to dump Palin and her radicals, forcing them to become a third party who would have to come begging for a piece of the political pie.
22. Douglas | 10.27.08
I see the usual “suspects” are out and about, dropping the usual talking points, making the usual insults, ignoring reality in favor of their candidates. I’ve been observing this campaign for a couple of years and see nothing but media manipulation, lies and hate, and emotion over knowledge and common sense. Obama will probably win and, like Jimmy Carter in the 670s, we will come to regret it.
23. Nick | 10.27.08
Tony,
did you just say Fox News is balanced? Lol ok I will give you the fact that many of the networks are unbalanced but Fox is the worst. I am actually a republican but even I can see that. Hannity speaks so much vile and lies I can’t believe anybody can listen to him with out laughing. I havn’t heard Fox say one good thing about the democrats at least CNN try and offer both sides with the likes of Lou Dobbs etc
Sorry I just found your quote the most hilarious I have read all day.
24. Tom Mariner | 10.27.08
The second that the Governor of Alaska became a threat to the charisma prize that had long sat in the Obama trophy cabinet, she became the target of the “media” who are a part of the Obama Campaign. The Obama handlers demanded, “stop that woman” and all stops were pulled out of the smear campaign. And the pseudo journalists and the psuedo comedians shelved every other issue in favor of making Sarah Palin look like a clown rather than an one of the most effective administrators in state government.
The one thing you can be sure of is that the same folks who are now running the most effective lie machine in US history will be running the government. You can expect not only a total rewrite of history, but a violent supression of any dissenting voices.
In the years to come, even those of the dishonest press who survive their liberal capitulation will understand that the attack on Governor Palin was just the “canary in the coal mine” and foreshadowed a dramatic conversion of our democracy.

Look, by the average behavior of the people in Washington, Sarah Palin is a role model in the highest level. I truly appreciate that she’s not a robot. If you look and listen, it is obvious that McCain is pleased with her. Yet everyone is trying to divide them, because what would it be without a scandal?

And they tend to stir up a lot of B.S. along the way.

31. Jazzyhue | 10.27.08
I don’t see the bias here at all. If you aren’t seeing a lot of negative reports on the Obama side its probably because there is much to speak of there. I have several news papers in my home page links. They can’t all be bias - can they? They all seem to report what goes on where and exposing wrong doing is what they should be doing. Its not the fault of reporters that all the negativity is coming from the GOP!
32. fat and dubious | 10.27.08
Sarah Palin is the Democrat worst nightmare. She does have the way to convey her message similar to the late Ronald Reagan. Put her in the same political boxing ring with Obama and she will TKO the dude rather quickly, you can not fake beliefs. In situation like this the best strategy is to attack her with petty things like clothings, disagrement with the staff. They don’t dare to go with fundamental issues like abortion or religious because they know she will expose how pretentious and fraudulent the liberal presses are.
33. Scout | 10.27.08
Palin not packing Clothes for her family?
She says she is ready to be VP or Pres? She can’t even pack enough for a Campaign… or is it McCain likes to dress up his Side Kicks? Oh, well he had to dress up the entire family… that is the reason it was so costly?…
She can go hunt moose… Todd can win a Snow Machine Race…. but pack a bag for a 2 month trip with 5 kids… is not something she as a mother, or adiministrator can do …. well… sorry this is kind of basic skills that would demonstrate the ability to plan, and an awareness of what she was about to do..
It is clear she is not able to do anything regarding planning and administration this is why she had to hire a city manager for the tiny town she was the mayor for. This is why she can’t pack a bag for herself and her kids… This is why she does not know what a VP does…
This is why she said… Todd and his “Friends” built them a new house… after she eliminated the town regulations for building permits and record keeping that would aid in the discovery of the costs and how the house built was paid for….
OH… my oh my…

Tony said (..and Fox news were the only ones balanced) lol, are you for real, you’re not serious, you’re joking right!
35. tim sharp | 10.27.08
Sarah Palin is not a maverick, she is a sufficiently educated individual who does not stand out in any way whatsoever except that she is arguably a “good-looking” politician. Her stance on social issues is atrocious and shameful. She does not support abortion rights in cases of rape or incest and her hometown made victims of rape pay for the rape kit at $1000 a pop. If you weren’t paying attention Regina she has been part of scandal when she used the office of Govenor to pursue a personal agenda. I hope she does run in 2012 or later because that will be an easy win for whomever challenges her.
I feel bad for “real republicans” (you know the educated Republicans) because their party feels this need to satisfy the religious right fringe groups that we should be condemning for their intolerance and borderline bigotry.
36. Bluber67 | 10.27.08
This is my year to part with the republican party. They have proven to me that as long as a candidate is against abortion, nothing else matters. Reminds me of the time George Bush was heard saying he needed to brush up on the Jesus thing. Come on folks, carring an unread Bible, and being pro life does not qualify a person to lead this great Country.
37. RadianChalant | 10.27.08
Hey Obama supporters. Let us keep moving forward to victory. Barack Obama was in Pittsburgh today and the crowd was spilling out the doors of the Mellon Arena and into the streets of Pittsburgh. Barack wants a united country and united world. For some reason, the Republicans do not. Why is that? McCain and Palin want division and wars; they are the real present day terrorist. How can McCain lead the Federal Government if he cannot lead his campaign? If something happens to President McCain, President Palin takes over. That sounds foolish and lacks commonsense thinking. Barack for President or as McCain calls him “That One”.

It amazes me that the Dems keep claiming the last 8 years have been bad. If memory serves me right we have only been having economic trouble in the last year.
Could this possibly be traced to the Democrats in Congress? No one was whining when they were living the high life and maxing out their credit cards and all of a sudden you need a savior to help you out of the mess you have created for yourselves.
To many unanswered questions about Obama and he silences anyone who dares speak out against him. Why?
41. Tom in Alabama | 10.27.08
Are the self-centered journalists hounding mcCain and Palin the same self-serving journalists who harrassed Bill clinton for eight years and Hillary unmercilessly in her bid to be the Democratic presidential nominee? Shame on McCain and Palin and the GOP spinmasters for not being able to take a little heat. They are jealous that Obama remains cool, calm and collected which is exactly what American needs for the next crisis that will happen when it is least expected.

What disturbs me very much is that McCain claims War Hero and no one can say a thing about his “country first “when the truth is that he gave info to the Vietnamese. He blocked a bill in Senate after it passed the House so that no one can ever check POW records. POW MIA families complain. See for youself. Go to youtube.com/watch?v=yoseBNet1Ek. I work with, know of, at least three dozen racist people who have registered to vote for the first time ever just to vote against Obama.
And both Obama and Palin are qualified per the constitution. Teddy Roosevelt was 41 when elected VP, had 5 kids, and only the elected office held was GOV for 1 1/2 years, that was it. He became president at 42 years old and is on Mount Rushmore, ENOUGH SAID.
48. VeryConcered | 10.27.08
Sarah Pallin one of the most effective administrators? Was that meant be a joke? The woman is under investigation by the state ethics committee, IRS, and God knows who else. She introduced sales taxes in Wasilla. Sales Tax in Alaska? I lived there for 6 years - the state doesn’t charge you for living in Alaska, they reward you with a Permanent Dividend check!
Tell me something Tom Mariner - what would you do if you found out that one of your employees was filing fake per diem charges? Would that count as grounds for dismissal in your books? Why should it be any different for a politician?

Dave, I understand and feel your frustration. I, too, find it quite difficult to vote this election given the choices in the two major parties. But I do intend to cast my vote, even for an independent, because it is a sweet privilege as a citizen of this country, and I owe it to every man and woman who has sacrificed in every form of service for my right to do so. I am not so much ashamed of my fellow countrymen. I am disheartened in the fact that somewhere we lost our way and let the guiding principles we founded this country on fall by the wayside. People don’t respect each other anymore, and it becomes all too obvious during an election. I do feel each of the candidates understands the extreme importance of THIS particular election and perhaps this will “wake ‘em up” to the fact that we need real leadership based on values throughout Washington.

Are you kidding me about Biden being offended by a reporters questions? Seriously?!? Palin has NEVER ASWERED QUESTIONS in a press conference! Why? Because she has NEVER held one! Her handlers, the RNC and McCain camp have made sure to shelter her from all questions that don’t fit snuggly in their agenda! And that is precisely why they are failing! She is not a credible character, vice-Presidential candidate, or even Politician!
53. Ben | 10.27.08
I’m just surprised at all the comments saying that FOX News is more balanced than CNN. FOX News admitted to using questions and talking points fed to them by the Bush White House! They are the least balanced major news source in the US. I’ll agree that CNN and MSNBC are both head over heels in love with Obama, but they’re not running around shouting about every little mistake McCain has ever made. They’re not talking all the time about McCain’s obvious overabundance of wealth, wasteful personal spending, horrible marital history, or anything else. They aren’t even taking the easy bait and comparing McCain’s platform today with his platform of two years ago. They’re being as respectful as they can. FOX on the other hand is throwing around words like terrorist, emphasizing Obama’s middle name every chance they get, and trying their best to paint him as an unAmerican, elitist, terrorist pig.
55. Blurber67 | 10.27.08

Can we find something on YouTube about this? The things that Sarah Palin yells at a little league game and how they might parallel her foreign policy decisions?
Do you think she used to hide in the woods and ambush snowmachine racers with tree branches if she thought the judges weren’t looking?
I think she would make a good President of the Senate, considering the Democratic majority.

The public has apparently made up their mind about Sarah Palin. The Alaska ethics investigators made up their mind. The McCain campaign staff has made up its mind. Next week the voters will speak.
A mistake that Senator Mc Cain can never admit to in public. Their divorce decree with be issued soon, it will come with no alimony, he got off cheap and so did we.

I wont deny that Palin has “been/is/used to be corrupted” and that McCain is a 8 digit money maker, and I cant deny that Obama and Biden have Issues too.
But still, when I’m really sad and bored, I go watch Tina Fey, The Vise Presidential Campaign, and that one youtube video that shows how Palin can’t say what newspaper she reads.

The people in this country were shocked and appalled after Palin opened her mouth in the Gibson and subsequent Couric interviews. She showed a startling lack of intelligence in both, in my opinion. Obama’s handlers had absolutely nothing to do with what came out of Palin’s mouth during these interviews! It’s obvious the McCain camp instantly realized this was going to be a HUGE problem and kept her under tight control, read: NO press conferences, ever!! She and McCain have brought down the Republican brand to an all time low. You can tell a lot about how candidates will run this country by the way their campaigns are run. McCain’s is completely erratic, backstabbing and off message. Obama’s is a well oiled no drama machine. There it is.
It’s going to be a tidal wave election, super majority to follow.
69. Citizen of Chicago | 10.28.08
Trying to keep this short, but I hope this helps.
McCain’s popularity dropped seriously with Obama’s trip to Europe, as those nations welcomed the hope of intelligent and inspiring American leadership, after 8 years of Bush idiocy.
In response, McCain’s campaign chief, Steve Schmidt, took Obama’s demonstration of diplomacy and called it “celebrity”, and, for good measure, added a war on the ability to speak well..
Political narratives over the Rove/Bush years have almost reached the level of “psy-ops” against the American people, to win elections and retain power. These webs of semi-fictional spinning harm American democracy, because democracy depends on the informed consent of the people.
By manufactured narratives, the McCain campaign lurched on, until the Republican Convention and the launching of the summer blockbuster narrative, Sarah Palin.
It seems like Schmidt and Company accuse the other campaign of some dirty trick whenever they intend to apply the dirty trick themselves. In the case of the “celebrity” issue, they tagged Obama with “celebrity”, then pushed a genuinely shallow celebrity, Sarah Palin. Thus the Palin Effect. The boost in the polls and fund-raising. Reckless populism re-introduced to national politics in the age of nuclear weapons, population pressure, and the challenge of restructuring world financial systems in an age of fundamental energy change of the kind that usually destroys civilizations.
Obama’s popularity is a natural response of people to outstanding qualities of leadership. America needs this leadership now. We do need to return to America’s better history.
Sarah Palin’s popularity is celebrity only, the kind that is marketed in show business, by cynical practitioners of the craft. She shows no love of law, no particular attachment to the values of American government. She is by attitude more qualified to serve as president of Disneyland than vice-president of the United States. Or maybe just the “pro-America” parts of Disneyland.
70. Kassie | 10.28.08
It’s about time someone on the McCain team show some juevos and say what needs to be said. McCain’s handlers are so worried about offending someone that they aren’t bothering to make sure the truth gets out there. If John McCain won’t do it for himself or for America, then I for one am glad that Sarah isn’t afraid. As to his staff not liking her…. too damn bad. SHE is the only reason at least 1/2 of McCain’s supporters are McCain supporters. Deal with it.

The best thing about this campaign is that it catapulted Gov. Palin into the spotlight and made her the leading Republican candidate for 2012. Obama’s charismatic sheen will have worn off by then and we’ll be sick of the arrogant Chicago pol he really is. It will be the perfect time for Palin to run for President. The people will be yearning for a real person with the traditional values America was built on to ride in from what remains of the western frontier and call us back to our true selves.

Tony, let me get this straight. FOX News is mittel-auf-de-strausse in your opinion? Repeating the phrase “fair and balanced” constantly doesn’t magically qualify you as a competent news group. You have to work for that respect; I’m afraid most idiots in that little 20th century organization, including the head idiot, do not qualify for my respect in even the loosest terms. I am not going to vote for anyone that will turn this country over to our enemies with out even a fight. Just to hand us over to them, NO,NO,NO.
I feel that McCain and Palin have already proven thenselves to us.
PEOPLE, What more do you expect? Someone that will make us a joke to the rest of the world or someone that will not go down without a fight.

Palin in 2012? A moron for a president? Uh… we tried that, it didn’t work.

most of these comments read like just another partisan slugfest.
Gov. Palin has adequately demonstrated two things: 1 she’s in no way qualified to lead this country should that become necessary. 2. She (like most of us, I might add) has her own interests as her priority.
Senator McCain has now demonstrated that he is no longer the McCain we respected for many years. In his present form, he is clearly not fit to lead our country (and, by his own admission of the ‘things’ he’s not well-versed in!). His campaign reached new lows in trading in outright lies and hate. Electing the man who can say “I’m John McCain and I approve these lies and tactics” would clearly be a tragic error. How on Earth could we ever expect him to tell US the truth? Or act in our best interests?
Merely saying all campaigns are dirty to rationalize such abhorrent behaviour and lack of integrity will NOT cut it this time. It’s gone too far and, there’s too much at stake.
As such, sad as that may be to some, we only have one sane/safe choice. And Senator McCain himself has already made that choice for us with his childish behaviour and sordid campaign.

McCain and Palin 2008!!! No one should be brought into the role of the President in the middle of a war unless they have walked in the shoes of a soldier, sailor or Marine. Many people have not served and never will…realize experience is EXTREMELY important in a time like this. McCain also is willing to stand up for what is right not just what everyone wants to hear.

As a former Republican, I say GO OBAMA/BIDEN! Maybe after the Republican party implodes and re-builds, they will produce a worthy candidate. Obama has demonstrated good leadership skills thus far, and I believe he will serve this country well.

Jimmy Orr: again this will not make it pass the test ” . Constructive debate - even pointed disagreement - is welcome” so here I go wasting my time. Orr when you typed about Biden saying “Are you joking?” it would help US to know why he made that remark. What was the question?? I know the last time I made a remark of you smart retort it did not get publish. Let’s see.

To comment 40: Economics are not the only way we should judge the past 8 years. What about the wars, torture, spying on your own citizens? Bush and his team make a mockery of the US and the principles upon which we were founded.

To 72: What makes Sarah Palin a “real person?” The fact that her family’s needs are pretty much being ignored? She has a baby with Down’s Syndrome whom should be receiving early intervention services at this point. She has a 6 year old child who doesn’t appear to be in school (maybe she is getting tutored on the Straight Talk Express??). Her 17 year old daughter is having a baby and needs attention. Or does speaking with a lot of colloquialisms make her real?
George Bush got elected because a lot of people could relate to him and thought he was “real.” I don’t know about you, but I would rather have someone who is smart and thoughtful as president than “real” people like Palin and Bush.

I want to see where all of the bail-out money is really going; probably not to the little mortgage holders, but to the high rollers and gambling addicts that have been running this country for the past 8 years… These are real lives they have ruined. Can our leaders be tried in a world court for war crimes? Can the American people start a class action against the CEO’s that robbed us worse than Bonnie and Clyde?
