Joe the Plumber stiffs McCain. Pursuing country music career?
By Jimmy Orr | 10.30.08
Hey Joe, there’s only five days to go before the election. Ya’ think you can clear out your schedule just long enough to help someone campaign for President of the United States?
Perhaps that’s what John McCain was thinking when his new best friend, Joe Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber didn’t show up to a rally today in Ohio.
Left him hanging
The plumber, who became a central part of the McCain campaign after pointedly questioning Barack Obama on his tax proposal, was a no-show.
Some speculated he was fired after dispensing foreign policy advice at a rally two days ago.
Where’s Joe?
“Joe’s with us today,” McCain said at a rally (not knowing he was stood up).
“Joe where are ya?” questioned McCain.
“Joe, I thought you were here today…,” he said, trailing off.
A true politician, the Republican rebounded by yelling, “You’re all Joe the Plumbers! So all of you stand up!”
Where was he?
So what the heck happened to Joe? He was home. As it turns out, he didn’t know he was supposed to attend.
CNN, always resourceful, called Joe.
They report it was “news to him” that he was supposed to be there, but that he was making plans to join the Republican nominee later in the day. The network also reported Joe was “not happy” about the incident this morning.
Joe the entertainer
CNN said Wurzelbacher was planning to go to Philadelphia to appear at a charity event not related to the campaign.
What — is he freelancing now?
Yes. According to Country Music Television, Wurzelbacher has signed on with The Press Office, a Nashville PR firm.
“He’s getting hundreds of media requests, literally hundreds,” a representative of the firm told FOX News. “Though he’s been thrust into it, he’s a celebrity notwithstanding and with that notoriety he’s being deluged with requests.”
Country music?
But what kind of requests? All sorts. Speaking engagements, a book and get this: a country music contract.
Politico reported that it’s possible. And Joe didn’t deny it.
“I love country music, and I mean it’s pretty much what I listen to from sun-up to sundown,” Wurzelbacher told FOX News. “But as far as me being a country music star, I don’t know. I don’t think people are that deaf-tone out there.”
Thanks but no
Not everyone out there is thrilled with the idea. Take Prefixmag, for example. Their headline today? “Joe the Plumber to become Joe the talent-less country singer”.
You can’t win ‘em all over, Joe.

The “right” team for America. They’re just like us!!
5. pat | 10.30.08
Who gives a hoot about Joe the plumber can he help pay our bills, mcain should focus on the issues on hand and stop defocussing using Joe the plumber (Who is Not a Plumber) to take the time to get his plumbing license. Urgh when you run out of air you create a scape goat.
6. fred | 10.30.08
funny. you ask THE ONE a question, and “they” try to ruin your life. funny. funny as all get-out. think how funny it will be when THE ONE and his minions and the power of the federal government and justice department come for you..if you step out of line……….
funny.
good thing it will never happen under prez mccain.
7. Don Smith | 10.30.08
I heard that Joe finally figured out he would be better off with Obama’s tax plan.
9. Sean | 10.30.08
I watched that live after I finished my morning jog. It was so surreal that I thought I was hallucinating from lack of oxygen to my brain because I just stopped jogging. I loved the kid’s…I mean crowd’s reaction. The quizzical huhs and tepid response to McCain just about made my day. You are all joe the plumbers kid.
10. Steve C. | 10.30.08
A plumber that doesn’t show up on schedule, just what we need. And he didn’t show up to get his license and he didn’t show up to pay his taxes. What a great American.
15. fern | 10.30.08
Sarah Palin, Joe(not his real name) the (non)Plumber — what a pathetic team McCain has tied himself to.
16. Cliff | 10.30.08
This is just like the thing on soupwar.com
People have a preference and for the darndest reasons don’t budge.
It has nothing to do with logic and reasoning things out it’s like
you’re Campbells soup with McCain or Progresso with Obama.
17. Hendrook | 10.30.08
I see a powerful GOP ticket in 2012:
Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber as VP.
They can’t lose.
18. Amanda W. | 10.30.08
Why are people so stupid? You can be a plumber without being licensed in many areas. He worked under a master plumbers license. Do you really think your CPA does all the work. No, he has interns…. And, we better all care what people think. This country wasn’t not built by elitists only. We are a country whose greatness is built on the back of diversity. Pioneers who settled the west, elitist from England and so on. And, the issue at hand is exactly what McCain is addressing. Obama is misleading people, manipulating and many are being sheep, or perhaps the rats of Pied Piper [Obama]. Good luck with that.

Poor Joe. If I ever see a Presidential candidate walking towards me, I’m running the other way and not stopping until I see ocean. I don’t need that kind of grief. Still, he might be a little to blame. When news agencies came knocking down his door, he could have told them to go away. He didn’t have to accept interviews. He could have said, “I’m just a normal citizen, not a celebrity, please respect my privacy and go away.” He seems to be eating the fame up however. Maybe it’s worth all the jealous people trying to tear you down.
22. John | 10.30.08
You do not need a “license” to be a plumber. To run a business he would need to get one, but not to solder some copper pipes together. Just like electricians. At least in my part of the country
23. fred fep | 10.30.08
deaf-tone, indeed!
How are these fools even as close as they are? The Nativist Party, I mean the Know-Nothing party, I mean the Federalist party…I mean the Republican party, man are they horrid. If they cheat and win we would be in major trouble with these two who only care about themselves, their followers who have a collective IQ of about 3½, with Joe the Worthless as a cabinet member (Joe the Interior Secretary?)
They bus kids (legally?) to fill out their rallies, they resort to 1920s-style red baiting and lynching-era racism. The Republican Party deserves to be a minority party, I lay you odds taht these absolute frauds begin demanding proportional representation now, they have the consistency of lumpy oatmeal.
25. David | 10.30.08
How ironic.
You all are so quick to beat up on a plumber when it is actually the Obamanation to mankind that is going to take you down the toilet.

Just saw this blurb when I went to Google news to see what was going on in the world. I am just so sorry that our voters and especially the “news business” even brings up this non person. What a waste of resources and time.
27. David | 10.30.08
Joe and Sarah are headed for hollywood fame! Media spots galore; streets paved with gold. McCain has raised the standard of living for at least two poeple (offset by his own decline). Maybe that Hollywood crowd is not so bad after all! Enjoy yourselfs while a professional takes care of our country.

I can’t believe they’re putting this fraud out in front as some representative of the people. What a joke! It’s reasons like this that McCain is trailing so badly. “Joe the plumber” commenting on Israel, puh-lease. It’s so very sad in some ways to watch the old m an decline.

He is a Joe. Like millions of others he represents the hard working American. But you people are so ready to hang him up like a lynch mob your blind to what kind of person Barak Obama is.
He is the Hitler of days gone by. He mezmerizes his prey and whan its time he will suck you dry. Get off the plumber train and get to the real person whos going to make America a soialists place. or in otherwords get your head out of.

Why do sheeple who voted for Bush even get to make comments or casts votes in this election. You guys blew it not once, but twice. Now you want a 3rd opportunity and have the audacity to suggest that Obama as president would not be a much needed retreat away from your ignorance. Give us all a break and go to sleep for 4 years; your president has been asleep for 8.
42. McCain 2000 | 10.30.08
Why is Joe the Plumber still news? Because McCain & Co. keeps putting him in the spotlight.
Why do folks tear Joe the Plumber down? Because he stepped into the spotlight, misrepresented himself and his lot in life, and asked a stupid questions–and the GOP ate it up.
Why should we care about Joe the Plumber? Because McCain cares. This is the man McCain is using to showcase his ideas. Note that some people from both camps want to stop talking about him; the Obamamites don’t want to talk about the “spread the wealth” comment, while McCainiacs don’t want their candidate to continue associating himself with this embarrassment. Note also that there are folks from both camps who obsess over the guy; McCainiacs buy into what he represents with his words, while Obamamites revel in what he respresents as the failures of the McCain ‘08 campaign.
Like it or not, Sam the Inquisitor made his bed. I, personally, have no sympathy for him, and it’s laughable that anyone should feel sorry for the attention that he gets–at his own behest. On the other hand, I think it’s awfully silly that people spend so much time fawning over/criticizing the guy.
43. lol | 10.30.08
Joe The Plumber is a guy who has money so he is “cool”, but he isn’t. The Republicans can’t do anything to help them so they use people like Joe The Plumber to help them.
P.S. Obama for prez

Joke ( sorry, Joe) the Plumber, is he still out there, struggling to make it like the rest of us. He’s just trying to make something out of nothing, just like his friend John McCain.
45. Joel | 10.30.08
Amanda W. should read her history books. This country was indeed built by elitists and on the backs of the common folk who were taken advantage of. Frm the revolutionary war to the birth of the rail roads to the beginning of labor unions to the first 6 years of the GW Bush administration. The fact is however that the elitists tend to be Republicans.
46. Sam Stone | 10.30.08
Joe the Plumber. A nobody who exposed the socialist tendencies of nobody who thinks he is somebody.
47. Daniel M | 10.30.08
You just have to shake your head at the folks from the right who cry “Democratic Hate Machine” when the crowds don’t buy in to the superficial silliness that is Joe the Plumber. Wow, surprise, it turns out that he was full of it, as in, not going to net $250K any time soon, already owes back taxes, actually going to save on taxes under Obama’s plan. If you are “all Joe the Plumber”, quit whining and aim a little higher next time around.
48. Devan Ellis | 10.30.08
Lets cut the crap and become a civilized country again. In my 74 years, I have never seen such horse play in an election. Everyone seems to be making a mockery of our Government. This is the REAL world - do you really care about “Joe the Plumber”? We should be thinking about our children’s welfare, and who we trust to care for them when we are gone - certainly not someone who will “Re-distribute” their hard earned dollars.
50. Steve | 10.30.08
Hey Fred that wasn’t Obama that trash the Constitution that was Bush and after his stooge got through with the “Justice Department” the name was chaged to the “Department” because Justice was not to be found. Amanda W. Yes some people in this country are stupid but who do you think is doing the misleading? A tax plan for the rich brought to you with the face of a plumber. A man who has no real ideas on how to lead so he tries to make you afraid of that one.
51. DALBY | 10.30.08
If everyone becomes Joe the Plumber, with over $250,000 income who’s gonna be the customer?
52. Kevin | 10.30.08
Who cares about Joe the damn plumber? Has McCain even proposed ONE single economic policy he would do different than George Bush? McCain says he also stands for change…yeah right. I don’t agree with all of Obama’s policies, but I’m voting for him because he will bring optimism back to consumers and investors. Republicans have had their turn at look where we’ve gotten. Exxon Mobile just posted their HIGHEST profits in the company’s history in the middle of our economic crisis, and McCain wants to continue tax cuts for wealthy corporations. Doesn’t sound like change to me.
Support OBAMA and DEMOCRATS in 08!!!
53. cardsharky | 10.30.08
Since McCain staffers were too busy leaking factual information about how sorry a candidate Sarah Palin really is they forget to contact Joe about when and where.
55. sherry | 10.30.08
When Joe told Obama that he was”getting ready to buy a company that makes $250,000-270,000 a year” he was lying - perhaps wishful thinking is more appropriate- but he certainly was not telling the truth. He was attempting, as he says, to back one of these candidates into a corner which is something he “always wanted to do”. It was obvious that his intentions were to bring the candidate down. Again, he is shown to be someone of no substance or character. I am NOT Joe the Plumber, McCain! And I doubt many Republicans would like to be compared to someone of that low calibre.
56. lonecrone | 10.30.08
All that attention for lying on camera to Obama and getting caught. I just can’t understand what McCain is thinking when he does these sleazy things.

Amanda, you are right on…….hey there kids……read about John McCain’s tax policy and health care policy……they are better than Obama’s, and will help future job creation. Giving handouts to people do not create jobs or ultimately help the economy grow. Don’t be just an emotional voter……do I love McCain….?…no…..but of the two candidates……McCAIN POLICIES ARE THE BETTER OF THE TWO. Please research…..don’t just believe everything you hear. And don’t just do your research on the Daily Kos…or Slate…or Moveon.org………they are totally slanted. Please,,,,it is too important. Thanks.

WHY would you think they wouldn’t try to destroy some guy in Ohio.
REMEMBER, the Dems are the ones with FEWER moral standards to live up to…why else do they laugh and point fingers when a conservative commits a sin…I’m surprised they even NOTICE!
61. Lee | 10.30.08
Who cares if Joe the plumber isnt a real plumber. Although he seems to have knowledge of this field. And so what he owes back taxes. A few million people do also.
Now lets get to Obama. Liar of his friendships with terrorists and America haters. And if you think Obama is going to make 1/2 of his campaign promises a reality then you are all dreaming. He lies like everyone else. And if you are so gullable to think otherwise then you get what you deserve if he is elected. I dont want no one come crying to me.
62. kiki | 10.30.08
The socialist and “redistribute the wealth” from the Republicans need to stop until the propose a flat tax - we already have a progressive tax system and McCain is not proposing to change that! And why don’t they propose a flat tax?….Oops - I forgot the rich actually pay less taxes under the current system then under a flat tax, because the use every loop-hole and “deduction” they can!
64. John | 10.30.08
Is Joe the Plumber working to be in the Republican ticket for 2012? Sara already has indicated she is intending to run for the presidency. we will have two highly intelligent candidates and will be very difficult to choose one.
65. Bb | 10.30.08
The media does seem to be picking on this guy, but he set himself up by claiming he was something he wasn’t. Yes, he can work under his boss’s license now, but will need a license to buy the business. He claimed he was in a position to buy the business, but isn’t, and he doesn’t seem to understand the fact that it isn’t the gross receipts of the business that get taxed, but the net draw the owner puts in his pocket. Even that is like an employee’s gross income, all the personal deductions come out of that and the taxable income that’s left is what one pays taxes on. Any plumber in a two-man shop that has over $250k in taxable income either needs a new calculator, help from an accountant, or has a spouse with a really good job and should stop complaining.
If he’d really been a small business owner, I doubt the media would’ve picked on him. He would’ve just been the GOP hero that managed to get Obama to say “spread the wealth around”. He should get a nice consulting fee from the GOP for getting Obama to make possibly his biggest gaffe of the campaign.
Won’t matter, however. The problem isn’t what “Joe” said, it’s what McCain has been doing and saying for the last eight years as he aligned himself with Bush. If things had gone well for Bush in the last couple of years that would’ve been a good strategy. Unfortunately, Bush crashed and burned and McCain is really doing surprisingly well given that he hitched his wagon to a dead horse.
66. Maurice | 10.30.08
You guys know that John McCain is a billionaire and that Sarah Pallin’s maiden name is Heath, you know those nasty candy bars, so there is money there. You just can’t enroll in 5 different colleges without having money.
67. Aycee | 10.30.08
Joe the Plumber… that’s the entirety of McCain’s campaign, even Joe bailed out on him. And Palin, she’s a joke now in ‘08 and will fade into the hollywood hall of fame for wanna-be politicians within the next year or two. Most American’s are as dumb as those who support these two bozo’s. They can see clearly through them.
68. me | 10.30.08
Ah to listen to the GOP (Grand Old Poops)worry about the “Democratic hate machine”. Where in the world were the complaints when the swift boat for lies where out trash talking. My favorite now is the complaints about how Obama is spending so much money. The GOP outspends the Dems in almost every race but when it happens to them it is all croc tears.

Bravo please have McCain propose his flat tax plan, No exemptions, no deductions just send 20% - 30% of your income to the republicans so they can maintain the bloated, inefficient gov’t bureaucracy they have created in the last 8 years by borrowing the money from China. We will probably be lucky if it is only 30% when the Chinese call in their loans due to the shrinking dollar.
Who knows how we will get out of the mess the repubs have made but the rule I know is when in a hole stop digging and America needs to stop the repubs from digging us in deeper.

If Obama is a socialist so is John McCain. Nothing drives me nuttier than the way the McCain camp keeps throwing that around. Surprise people! His tax plan also has a sliding scale taxing the wealthy ata higher rate then the rest. Let’s get some perspective on this though. 70 years ago that top tax bracket was 90%. Even a mere 30 years ago it was 79%. 8 years ago it was 39.6% president bush lowered that rate to 35%. Obama’s plan merely let’s that latest cut expire in 2010 as originally written. For this he’s labeled a socialist. Bravo. Read some books. Learn what a word means before you use it to attack someon’s character.
76. Lou | 10.30.08
Joe the plumber should go to jail. He doesn’t pay his taxes and he doesn’t have a plumber’s license. Paying your taxes IS patriotic. Looks like Joe the Plumber is a liar and a tax evader.
77. David | 10.30.08
If ‘Joe the plumber’ was ‘Jose the illegal immigrant plumber with no license who’s been dodging his taxes’ and was for Obama, the Republicans wouldn’t stop roasting him for decades. They’d resurrect him every election. They’d vehemently point out that he’s unlicensed and he’s dodging paying his taxes. I can hear them now, ‘Jose is getting all the benefits of being a taxpayer but he’s not paying for them, Jose is taking work from licensed plumbers’. But since he’s for McCain all is forgiven. An unlicensed illegal dodging his taxes isn’t pulling his weight, an unlicensed Republican dodging his taxes with an eye to owning his own business is obviously intelligent and we need to listen to what he has to say.
As a recent article pointed out two-thirds of the businesses in the USA paid no federal income taxes from 1995 to 2005. That’s from a GAO investigation. Joe the Republican business owner wants to be among them.
Most likely the Republicans will simply discard him if he becomes too much trouble, like all labor.
78. Gretchen | 10.30.08
Joe the Plumber is just an average guy shooting himself in the foot by voting for the party of Wall Street fat cats. He is the kind of guy the GOP has historically taken advantage of to advance their own money-grubbing elitist agenda.

I can’t believe people actually have any respect for someone who doesn’t obey local regultions for licensure or pay taxes. People who work without licensure hurt all the other tradespeople who work hard and do what they’re supposed to. They’re kind of like people who cross picket lines or don’t at least try to buy American. People who don’t pay their taxes hurt all of us and are just leaches…drains on the community. This guy has a blatent disregard for what it means to be a good citezen. He’s just not pulling his own weight in society. That he’s the poster boy for McBush/Palin says a lot about them.
Vote Obama/Biden!

84. chris | 10.30.08
Basing your campaign on a dude named Samuel who is not a plumber and calling him Joe the Plumber makes no sense at all. It makes about as much sense as a candidate who knows nothing about the economy and finished at the bottom in his college class selecting a running mate who knows even less than him and took 6 years at 5 colleges to graduate. Out of all the people he could have chose he actually found someone dumber than him, do you realize how difficult that must have been?
Ironic that these two “non-rocket scientists” would then proceed to question an opponents understanding of the Constitution. Not just any opponent but a first in his class at Columbia, first in his class at Harvard law School, former Harvard Law Review, Constitutional Law professor.
only in America!
85. drdbsmith | 10.30.08
How ironic that Joe will now probably end up making much MORE than the $250,000, based on the fact that he is going to be going to all these speaking engagements. So in the end, he WILL have to pay more taxes under Obama’s tax plan when he is elected in 5 days.
86. Sam | 10.30.08
Barack Obama is no more a socialist than Ronald Reagan or Sarah Palin.
Ronald Reagan - EIC (earned income credit) on your tax forms
Sarah Palin - Alaska resources ’spread the wealth to the Alaskans’
OK Christians, who was the ultimate socialist? This is an easy question,
anyone, anyone? hint: JC

Have you head that sources in the McCain campaign confirm that McCain has promised Joe the Plumber a high position in the Small Business Administration. McCain says, “Joe represents hardworking American’s and I won’t forget him.”
88. bertpeer | 10.30.08
You just have to cringe when a Republican accuses the Democrats of being “hateful.” Let’s see: Dole calling her opponent “godless”, Bachmann calling people disagreeing with her “un-American”, McCain and Palin trying to smear Obama with statements so vicious and false that if used by ordinary people in day-to-day life would cause people to be outcast from their jobs and social networks.
89. robert matthew | 10.30.08
ENOUGH with Joe the plumber. I’m 79 years old, a Korean veteran, and have experienced many election campaigns, but McCain’s is by far, the most negative and shameful. All this talk about Socialism and we are one step away from nationalizing our banks under this Republican administration. All this talk about “tax and spend” and Bush has taken us from a $3 trillion national debt to $10 trillion in 8 years. This Republica administration’s slogan should be “don’t tax and spend more”
OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!

Could anybody tell me if Joe the Plumber is coming to campaign here in Charlotte anytime soon? I’d like to hear him speak and ask his opinion on the Fed’s Open Market Account and his take the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations. I also hope that he’s being well remunerated for his campaign appearances. A man on plumber’s wages can’t afford to take too many breaks from his regular job.

Joe the Plumber is in the spotlight because MCCAIN put him there and MCCAIN/PALIN keep putting him there. His “credentials” are being analyzed because he is being treated as an American Hero under the MCCAIN/PALIN campaign who say he represents all Americans. He doesn’t represent me. He’s obviously loving the attention and seeking the attention or he WOULD quietly disappear and say, “Thanks, but no thanks,” to requests for appearances.

There was a fake plumber named Joe, he was just all flash and no show, back taxes abound, no license to be found, said “So long John McCain….Where’s my dough?”
