Rick Perry to Kay Bailey Hutchison: Bring it on!

By Jimmy Orr | 12.04.08

Things always get interesting when there are intra-party battles.  Think the New York Yankees versus the Boston Red Sox.  Or Ohio State - Michigan.

Now think Texas Governor Rick Perry and Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.

It’s a high-noon showdown - Texas style.

Just like George W.

You see, Senator Hutchison might be tired of being in the U.S. Senate.  The highest office in the Lone Star State could be more appealing.  Problem is, a fellow Republican - namely Rick Perry - occupies the position, and he isn’t interested in giving it up.

So when Hutchison announced today that she’s interested in the job, Perry didn’t back down.  In fact, he used some of the bravado that fellow Texan - President George W. Bush - once used.

Exploratory committee

First, what Hutchison did.

She filed paperwork creating an exploratory committee allowing her to raise money to run for governor.  Here’s the official document.  While doing so, she put out a statement with a little kick to it.

“Texans deserve a Governor who, in the context of sound budgetary policies and low taxes, works for quality schools and universities, access to health care for our families, communities safe from crime and drugs, protection of private property rights, safe transportation and a government that listens and responds to them,” she said.

“There’s too much bitterness, too much anger, too little trust, too little consensus and too much infighting. And the tone comes from the top. Texans are looking for leadership and results.”

Oh yeah?

How’d the current Governor take that?

A simple statement.  To the point.  With a Patrick Swayze “Roadhouse” attitude.

“Bring it on,” Perry told the Dallas Morning News.  (You remember the terrible movie called “Bring it on” from nine years ago?  We included the trailer from it below.)

More Roadhouse

Anyway, a bit later, Perry’s staff had some fun at the Senator’s expense by tweaking her name in honor of her support of the $700 billion package aimed at rescuing the U.S. financial sector.

“Kay Bailout has been talking about running for governor and passing legislation for years and neither has ever happened,” a spokesman for Perry told USA Today. “Today she continues her streak of indecision.”

It’s only December 2008 and election fun is just beginning.  Yee-haw…

“Bring It On” terrible? What movie were you watching?

2. Mofo | 12.04.08

Rick Perry (Gov. Goodhair) is a very entertaining figure and that’s probably why he’s our governer. He really hit the ball out of the park with Katrina assistance though and a lot of us Texas Dems like him for that. Even though KBH does have a lot of support from Texans, I don’t know where that comes from as she hasn’t really done much good. I’d love to see another Democratic governer but the chances for that happening are slim to none. At least we’ll get a good show out of these two.

Fun article, thanks Mr. Orr. :)

Thanks for the laugh Barack and Ileana. Nice to receive additional affirmation that you’re both “real” people.

You seem to have forgotten George Bush’s “Bring It On” was made from the safety of US soil, over 5 years ago when he was posing in front of “Mission Accomplished” banners.

We’re still in Bush’s Vietnam, and Obama will be cleaning up his mess for a while. Bush has brought dishonor to our nation and made a mockery of the phrase, “Bring It On”.

Jimmy Orr has disgraced himself as a journalist during the 2008 campaign through his misinformed, consistently biased position. His tone is offensive, his arguments are crude, his point of view is highly unoriginal. At least he is consistent in these qualities, as demonstrated by the present article. Left-wing propaganda could use better intellects than his.

Kay is right. Gov. Perry is starting to get over in his head. He issued an executive order to require girls 13 and above should be vaccinated for HPV without seeking a vote. When it was time to increase funding for school system, he went on to increase tax on cigarettes by $1 a pack with having huge surplus from property taxes.

Two losers…
A Lightweight and a Prima-Donna…

9. Derek | 12.04.08

Mr Orr: Roadhouse debuted 19 years ago, not 9.

Hey MoFo, “hit the ball out of the park with Katrina assistance”?

Have you been down there lately? I’m a Texas Dem also, but I don’t there’s much difference between these two.

OK, Senator Hutchinson just confirmed in an email that she is supporting the loaning of at least $25B that was passed on 9/30/08 in HR 2638 set for mismanaged US automakers. Guess they are already funded and we are just watching the grandstanding by Congress before they hand over the money. Bill Gates said that if all other financial institutions think that they aren’t good for the money, why should taxpayers loan them money. GM’s stock is worth about $3B and they want $18B in loans……What? The taxpayer continues to be the tail on the dog. Meanwhile, Rick Perry (the Gov that normally shows up just in time to run for re-election) looked the escalating recession/depression in the face and decided that Texas, out of ideology, didn’t need any Fed funds for infrastructure or system support. Apparently, he thinks he understands the economy better than the best economists (including Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize economy) reviewing our priorities. As an Independent, I hope that a candidate shows up soon that can take both of these two yahoos out of any leadership role. Texas and the US deserve better.

The Republican Party has exploded and now, like a scene out of Mad Max, they are scouring the barren Republican political landscape for whatever they can get, even cannibalizing their once fellow Republicans in the process.

Let the cheerleaders fight it out on the sidelines, the Democrats will be the ones playing football for at least the next eight years.

Why do you ask for comments, since you are very limited with your posting to the site!!!

“Bring it on?” The last time I heard that, it was from President George W Bush, as a precedent to the conflagration his war in Iraq brought on. Even he has suggested that was inappropriate. But Perry always was the slow one.

15. Jake | 12.04.08

Texans, how about drafting Ron Paul for the nomination fight? Threesome is much more entertaining!

16. Justin G. | 12.04.08

Perry is a power-mad swine and Hutchison is hip-deep in the good ol’ boys network. I thought the motto was “Don’t mess with Texas.”

Well with these “choices” they keep messing with Texans over and over again.

17. Bill B | 12.05.08

Dooood….how do you incorporate “Bring it On” into your article? That’s like serving up a reference to “Breakin - Electic Boogaloo II,” or the “Jammy, Jam, Jam.” You’re so cool!

I’ve never been a fan of Slick Rick, although he’s grown on me a bit with his handling of the hurricanes here. However, he was quick to condemn the Federal government (when he is supposedly a proponent of the state handling things) because it didn’t act fast enough. And he dares call Sen. Hutchison on the bailout when he’s grubbing for some of the bailout money himself.

Care to actually check out Kay Bailey’s record? I posted her accomplishments and ratings on my website, http://tracykarol.com. I’m Independent. I’ve never voted for Rick Perry (or George Bush, or Barack Obama). I have voted for KBH, just as I voted for John McCain. So I think you could call me a true Independent. I stand behind a candidate, not a party. However, with Obama leading the DNC, I don’t support anyone in that corrupt bunch at this time (nor do I see myself doing so in the future, unless it turns into a completely different party).

So — I don’t really care about the slogans (that was a BHO thing, and it stood for NOTHING). I simply will work my hardest to ensure KBH wins.

I can’t wait until the election. I will fight tooth and nail to make sure neither one of you gets elected and there are thousands of us. We will replace you since you don’t know how to stand up for our beliefs, Our Constitution, Our Bill of Rights. You just keep being silent and passing one thing after the next. We are watching you. You will be replaced.

20. Charles | 01.27.09

We, the people of Texas are watching ALL of you! Senators, Representatives, Governor, Attorney General, even you untouchable Judges! We Will vote you all out and replace you with REAL conservative principled people that make Texas, TEXAS! We will have our judgement day with you!
