Obama's inaugural lunch a salute to Lincoln. Five dollar foot-longs?

What are you having for lunch on Inauguration Day?

Well, if you aren't one of the 200 guests invited to the official luncheon, you can follow the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (they're the ones putting the official lunch together), and cook the same thing.

Five dollar foot-longs?

The menu is a salute to President Lincoln.

That doesn't mean the lunch committee is ordering out five dollar foot-longs at Subway.  Although that seems logical.

Instead it is a real tribute to Lincoln.  As in what the 16th president ate.  Think root vegetables and wild game.  And maybe some stewed oysters.  (And last we checked, Subway does not offer a stewed root oyster wild boar foot-long).

Menu

Here's the official menu:

First Course: Seafood Stew
Duckhorn Vineyards, 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley

Second Course: A Brace of American Birds (pheasant and duck), served with Sour Cherry Chutney and Molasses Sweet Potatoes
Goldeneye, 2005 Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley

Third Course: Apple Cinnamon Sponge Cake and Sweet Cream Glacé
Korbel Natural “Special Inaugural Cuvée,”
California Champagne

Who's in charge

Who is this committee anyway?

Members of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies are Senator Dianne Feinstein, Chairman; Ranking Member of the Senate Rules Committee Bob Bennett; Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid; Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi; House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer; and House Minority Leader John Boehner.

The esteemed committee will probably not be the ones cooking the meal.  It seems that the Arlington, Virginia, based catering company "Design Cuisine" is in charge.
