More than 80,000 suggestions for an anti-Rush Limbaugh slogan were emailed to the Democratic National Committee in the past week. The DNC will announce today the winning slogan which will be placed on a billboard in the radio host's hometown.

New Limbaugh billboard slogan announced - creativity was not considered
By Jimmy Orr | 03.12.09
Setting a world record today for beating a dead horse, the Democratic National Committee will announce they’ve selected an anti-Rush Limbaugh slogan to be placed on a billboard in the radio host’s hometown.
The DNC began soliciting slogans a week ago in response to Limbaugh’s well-known statement that he wants President Obama to fail.
“If you’re anything like me, then you’ve had the urge to talk back to a right-wing talk radio host more than a few times. Now you can,” reads an email blast from the executive director of the DNC. “Can you help us come up with a message for Rush that we’ll place on a billboard right in his hometown?”
The envelope please
That message has been decided. CNN is reporting that the billboard will say, “Americans didn’t vote for a Rush to failure.”
Apparently more than 80,000 slogans were emailed in and astonishingly all were somehow deemed worse than that one.
Stand your ground
Despite the outcry over Limbaugh’s assertion, the radio host - unlike Republican leaders who have criticized him - hasn’t backed down.
“What is so strange about being honest to say that I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation? Why would I want that to succeed?” Limbaugh told supporters at the Conservative Political Action Conference two weeks ago.
What about Carville?
By the way, Limbaugh isn’t alone in wanting a president to fail. James Carville is guilty as well. He had similar wishes for President George W. Bush eight years ago.
“I hope he doesn’t succeed, but I am a partisan Democrat,” Carville said of Bush. “But the average person wants him to succeed. It is his country, his life or their lives. So he has that going for him.”
You can read all about it here.
By the way, we know you don’t want us to fail. So follow us on Twitter.

I hate limbaugh …wished I spelled his name wrong … but this billboard is weak …they picked the weakest thing you could say
3. Scott Wood | 03.12.09
Wow. What a bunch of hypocrites! Most of the Democratic party for 8 years not only wanted George Bush to fail, but engaged in treasonous activity to make it happen.
4. ArchiesBoy | 03.12.09
I am a lifelong Democrat. This stunt is dumb. It’s about the dumbest thing the DNC has EVER done, to say nothing of wasting good money. The idiocy of this stunt truly puts them in the same class as the Republicans. Rush would be proud.
5. wot90s | 03.12.09
Me thinks Rush needs psych and drug evaluation. Looked to me like he was a little high when he was giving his speech.
Perhaps the Drug Task Force should check out his “nanny”.
Or maid, what ever he calls her.
Would be interesting to know if he is using again…..
7. pat biello | 03.12.09
Why give the man more publicity? Public controvercy is his ammo don’t expand his arsenal.
10. jimbob | 03.12.09
The drug addled gas bag stepped in it and he will not admit to it. I do not think the public is tired of this yet because most people like to see punishment.
11. Seraphin | 03.12.09
Anything to get the focus off the real issue, which is trowing the house out the window. The administration is flushing our treasury clean and we are debating if a talk radio host did wrong by doing what the Democrats had been doing for 8 years prior.
12. Joe Crocker | 03.12.09
By eliminating part of Limbaugh’s statement, “if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation” the DNC has turned the truth into a lie. I don’t believe that any American, either democrat or republican truly wants America without individual freedom and capitalism as its foundation.
13. MW-Denver | 03.12.09
This is the most childish thing I’ve seen from our so called leaders. And you wonder why we want him(Obama)to fail. This is the mentality of the these Hypocrites. Grow up! You could have used that money to (let’s see) help people with their mortgages. Typical wasteful spending. I wonder if the cost of the billboard was in an Earmark. Way to give it to Rush you morons. I am sure Rush will just close up shop after this show of force.
14. Brent | 03.12.09
That so much attention is being given to Rush is comical. His followers won’t be deterred one bit by a billboard. I mean, why would they? They continue to buy his line about Obama being a socialist and wanting to destroy capitalism even though the most significant government bailout wasn’t even penned by Obama or his staff - it was drafted and pushed upon Congress by Paulson (yes, the former head of Goldman Sachs…arguably the institution with the most recognizable household name in pushing free market economics). The fact is, whether you espouse to unencumbered free market theory or not, the given situation calls for establishing credibility in the system, which requires governments to step in. The previous Republican administration knew this as does the current Democratic one. Then again, facts don’t seem to matter much to Rush and his disciples. The show must go on!
15. Dan | 03.12.09
Not surprisingly, the DNC ignored my request that it stop beating this dead horse. I responded to the e-mail solicitation as follows:
“I am a big Obama supporter and Democrat, but please stop this nonsense. It is hypocritical to say we want to “leave behind the failed partisan attack politics of the past” yet continue to add fuel to the fire over some stupid comments that Rush Limbaugh made. Maybe the Democratic Party sees this issue as politically advantageous (maybe it is, although Rush and his supporters no doubt love the attention), but I’m sick of it and I think this is exactly the kind of back and forth childish behavior that people are tired of and want to see changed. We don’t always have to have the last word. Let’s be grown-ups, please, and focus on the work that needs to be done to turn this country around, not kicking the Republicans while they’re down. A higher level of dialogue would be appreciated, respected, and better serve the Democratic Party in the long run. I won’t be donating any money to have it spent on a ridiculous billboard in West Palm. This is the type of stuff that turns one into an independent.”
16. puhlease | 03.12.09
Bottom line…It’s called Freedom Of Speech. And the democrats HATE that. Unless of course it’s any one of THEM speaking during the last 8 years.
17. Leetastic | 03.12.09
I love it how people say they’re a life long democrat then rip the DNC and plug a point for Rush. Limbaugh is a racist, sexist, homophobic drug addict who is the perfect face for the conservatives. At least he is open and honest about what the republicans represent.
18. Michael Knight | 03.12.09
I think the “slogan” is really, really lame. I like the idea, though, because Rush has his big mouth and a radio show to communicate his, umm, dare I call them, “thoughts.” The rest of us who are appalled at his stupidity and boorishness don’t have those but need a chance to respond, and this could be one way to do it. I just wish that among 80,000 respondents, there would have been one clever one! ![]()
19. Bryan Garcia | 03.12.09
I think we need to leave Rush alone! He doesnt deserve any of the attention he is getting. Let him fade away. He is a nobody with intentions to divide america when we need to unite. His attack on the President in the first 50 days is ridiculous. Its not just him its all his little followers on FM news talk. They all sound like a bunch of little cry babies. Anything that goes wrong, well its the liberals and Obamas fault. Give me a break. If Rush tripped and fell Sean hannity,Quinn and Rose,Glenn Beck would fall
20. USA #1 | 03.12.09
A few years ago, those who criticized the Bush administration were accused strengthening our enemies.
It seems to me that openly hoping for the president’s failure is a bit worse.
As for me, I’m happy that Rush is free to speak his mind. I’m also happy that I’m free to point out hypocrisy when I see it.
21. WILLIAM | 03.12.09
GUESS RUSH IS HAVING A MAJOR IMPACT ON THE DONKEYS SINCE DEBATING HIM WOULD BE A LOSING PROPOSITION ,THEY DECIDE A SIMPLE BILLBOARD WILL MAKE AN IMPACT,AND RUSH LOVES THE PUBLICITY ,,THANS DONKEYS
22. Dave | 03.12.09
The DNC learned to do as they say and not as they do. The GOP strictly used labeling with cute buzzwords, like flip flopper, unpatriotic, traitor, and continue with generational theft, socialist, and quite a few more. Time to label the biggest GOP blowhard.
23. graham | 03.12.09
I think if “demorats” loved our country as much as they hate Rush, then we would be much better of. Kennedy would be ashamed of them. The only thing they care about is saving their cushy seats in Washinton, not our country.
24. nancy m | 03.12.09
Thank you Rush for this thought-provoking debate! You do what you do SO well and your four words (though taken out of context) have brought attention to aspects of the Obama agenda that MSM fails to address. Love You, Rush!
25. Thomas | 03.12.09
Brilliant!!! In times like these the party leading our country is going to waste more money on a billboard for a guy who has every right to say what he wants. At least he lets people tape his speeches, which is more than you can say for our VP!!! I would rather see a billboard asking Barrack why he isn’t keeping his promise to cut the PORK!
26. Dave Brink | 03.12.09
The DNC is sinking to new lows. To echo the opinion of another reading, the Democrats AND media wanted George Bush to fail. Additionally, Rush only stated that if we are heading to socialism then he hopes (as others do) that these initiatives agains liberty and free markets fail - I agree.
27. Pizzaking | 03.12.09
Rush is over the top - and should hopefully and quickly slide down the other side to the bottom. The DNC is making a faulty move…why even give him credence or care…this article - well, it’s a bit slighted towards one side vs. the other…
I believe Americans voted for solidarity and a move to end the partisanship…but we haven’t accomplished that obviously - makes me sick…
I think all the politicians should be in our shoes - Medicare, Social Security, Pay cuts, job losses - than we’ll see real change for the ‘better’
28. iliketoblog | 03.12.09
So so petty, this is all so petty and stupid. The DNC must REALLY believe that Rush is somehow a threat to their message/policy. People are loosing their jobs in this country everyday, their morale is down, and the DNC places this much time and effort and money into such a stupid stunt.
I am all for free speech, let Rush yack, and move on for goodness sake. Geez, if we weren’t able to have heated debates about political style(s) what would we (the USA) be anyway? Socialist?
29. Stacey | 03.12.09
Limbaugh said “I want Barack Obama to fail IF his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation.” There is a big IF in that quote that the press glosses over. IF you are for European style socialism, you should be apalled at such a blatant free market statement. IF you aren’t he just says everything that should be said. BAD reforms should not prevail.
30. JustanAmerican | 03.12.09
More personal attacks from the left, how typical. If it were not for the fact we know what a bunch of Hypocrites you are we might stop to listen from time to time!
“On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, just minutes before learning of the terrorist attacks on America, Democratic strategist James Carville was hoping for President Bush to fail, telling a group of Washington reporters: “I certainly hope he doesn’t succeed.”
Carville was joined by Democratic pollster Stanley Greenberg, who seemed encouraged by a survey he had just completed that revealed public misgivings about the newly minted president.
“We rush into these focus groups with these doubts that people have about him, and I’m wanting them to turn against him,” Greenberg admitted.
The pollster added with a chuckle of disbelief: “They don’t want him to fail. I mean, they think it matters if the president of the United States fails.”
Minutes later, as news of the terrorist attacks reached the hotel conference room where the Democrats were having breakfast with the reporters, Carville announced: “Disregard everything we just said! This changes everything!”
The press followed Carville’s orders, never reporting his or Greenberg’s desire for Bush to fail. The omission was understandable at first, as reporters were consumed with chronicling the new war on terror. But months and even years later, the mainstream media chose to never resurrect those controversial sentiments, voiced by the Democratic Party’s top strategists, that Bush should fail.
That omission stands in stark contrast to the feeding frenzy that ensued when radio host Rush Limbaugh recently said he wanted President Obama to fail. The press devoted wall-to-wall coverage to the remark, suggesting that Limbaugh and, by extension, conservative Republicans, were unpatriotic.”

Keep it up DNC, Rush is loving this. If you can’t win the argument, call him a name.
33. John Darby | 03.12.09
The DNC has helped Rush beyond his wildest dreams. By seizing on his “failure” comment they have not only poured gasoline on the fire, they’ve been suckered into a fight that guarantees, by the act, that their opponent wins. The DNC’s lack of insight is truly astonishing…and scary.
34. Max Fromage | 03.12.09
Treasonous activity huh Scott. As a Democrat I never wanted Bush’s policies to fail I hoped that I was wrong and that they would work, but that didn’t quite work out. Did I support trampling all over the constitution? No. Did I support secret meetings with the oil companies to discuss energy policy? No. Did I want to see the USA lose standing around the world and head into an economic collapse just so my politics would prove correct? The answer to that question is also no. If you are hoping that our economy continues to tank so that your political opinion wins out then it is you, Scott Wood, whos patriotism I would question. As to whether or not that is a treasonous activity, I would have to say no. It it selfish and short sighted? I’ll let you figure it out.
35. Bill | 03.12.09
I’m a Democrat, I think Limbaugh sucks, but this is STUPID. The point about Limbaugh has been made, it’s time to move on people!!
36. Ron Webb | 03.12.09
I agree Joe, the qualifying phrase, “if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation”, is crucial. But was it part of his original statement, or did he tack it on later? Does anyine have the exact original quote, and more importantly the context in which it was said? Was he hoping that Obama fails politically, or was he hoping the economic recovery fails?
37. Bob Carter | 03.12.09
Rush didn’t have to say it……. The “OBAMA PLAN” is doomed anyway. Wait until the taxpayers get the bill!!!!! Wait until people see 15% - 18% mortgage rates etc., etc., etc. It won’t take long…….
38. J.Jay | 03.12.09
This is turning out to become a big freak show on both sides. If republicans have Limbaugh, Hannity and o’reilly, Democrats have their fair share in Chris Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann. Matthews and Olbermann gets away with lots of things because they raise points with some intellect behind it, where as Hannity and O’reilly side of things are abrasive and without any substance. Let me give an example, I was watching Hannity last night and some woman (I don’t recall who she is) said I don’t want India and China to run world’s economy. Which would have been fine if she would have added She wanted America to run the world economy but that never happen. On the other hand the whole discussion was revolving around what is this administration doing to bring economy back on track and stimulus bill that POTUS signed yesterday. oh well, got to run.
39. fgblegal | 03.12.09
Google why are you so conservative on your reporting? Even your polls have lost credibility. Limbaugh isn’t a serious anything to anyone on any subject but a few. Obama is trying to ease most of us out of the horrible situation our previous administration created (wealth at any cost is good). And the new administration is serious about majority well being over individuals (Madoff, etc.)

SPIN!
Take a sound bite out of context make it a big deal.
This is a problem in a culture of TXT MSGNG and where conversations are

When we actually talk to people rather than shout in our posts there can be
real progress. When we select sound bites and comment on them we miss
the opportunity to treat people like human beings rather than talking heads.

Obviously the Democrats don’t have anything better to do with all the excess campaign money Obama raised. Maybe they could help bail out the banks with it? Or buy stock in CitiBank? ArchiesBoy’s comment about “wasting good money” brings up a new point: where’s this money coming from? Let’s follow the money (to borrow a phrase from the past) and see where it leads us.
42. ed team | 03.12.09
Semantics are important. Saying Carvilles’ “I hope he doesn’t succeed” is NOT the same as Rush saying “I hope he fails.” Secondly, in Rush’s original statement he did not have “if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation” it was more basic… “I hope he fails.” All his explaining later was from what he was thinking at the time his mouth was ranting.
The DNC is wasting money by continuing. Giving Rush more exposure only gives him more time to modify the truth. Bad choice because it does not divert our attention from the “earmarks” situation Obama has stepped into. his team could have stripped out the most egregious ones out of the present appropriation.
43. Democrat | 03.12.09
This is a pretty stupid idea…but not as stupid as the people who agree with Rush Limbaugh. Democrats did not hope for President Bush to fail, we just didn’t expect anything other than failure out of him. Even setting expectations low did not help his cause.
44. jimmy orr rush supporter | 03.12.09

Scott:
What sort of “treasonous activity” are you implying? I’m sure it isn’t illegally spying on Americans, since Bush did that. I’m sure it isn’t outing a CIA agent, since Rove did that.
So what is it?
49. MarkCinPhx | 03.12.09
I’m sorry Joe but you are wrong. There are a lot of Americans that do not want “individual freedom and capitalism as its foundation”. Unfortunately, most of the people running the federal government, including President Obama, are in that group.
I don’t listen to Rush, but what he said was right. For the DNC to advertise it, and allow it to be discussed by the American people, is one of the best things they could have done. Thank you, DNC, for this advertisement. You should have billboards in every city in the nation.
The American concept of ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ is under the greatest threat than it has been since the founding of our country. That threat is in Washington; government leaders that will destroy what is left of the founding father’s principles. Obama is their leader. Like Rush, I want Obama to fail.

America, America God shed his grace on thee! All around us Rome is burning and all we get from the Dem’s is a stupid personal attack on a private citizen. I think this is a great idea. Let the DNC “stimulate” the economy with their own money for a change. A billboard like this is a “boots ready” project.
53. B. Morris | 03.12.09
What a great idea! Now lets erect a billboard to all the big democrats who remembered to pay their back taxes AFTER being offered a higher government post! Oh, and perhaps another one to Queen Pelosi who has forgotten who’s paying for all the special jet sewrvice she demands.
54. Invictus | 03.12.09
@Scott Wood: Democrats did not want Bush to fail. The fact was, Bush failed all on his own. We would have liked Bush to succeed. The problem is that empirically, his plans and strategies and policies were observed to fail.
55. TPartier | 03.12.09
While I thought the Billboard thing was beyond stupid, I also can’t believe how unintelligent so many from the Right that are posting here seem. You act like Obama is out to kill free speech? Really?
And exactly how many protesters - by Bush’s definition, anyone who would even dare show his opponent’s shirt - were forcibly and illegally removed from any Obama events this past election season? Oh - yeah - none.
Funny, that was a regular occurance during any Bush appearance — and those were pre-screened wing-nuts too.
56. Victor Sabin | 03.12.09
By giving him so much prominence, you are actually idolizing him. Rush Limbaugh is a thing of distant past. He is not even a Reaganite; he is a diehard, bigoted ideologue. Ronald reagan had convictions, but no dogmas. When time came he tempered his ideology with realism, took risks and negotiated with Gobachov. The so called Conservatives blasted him for that for six months calling him an idiot, traitor etc. etc. until they realized their mistakes; then they shut up. When economy booms in a year they will shut up again. Economics is a dismal science because it is based on unpredctable human sentiments. The more we feel confident, sooner we will crawl out of this hole.
Ronald Reagan cut taxes, reduced government, piled up deficits, induced collapse of Soviet Union, and ushered an economic boom.
Bill Clinton raised taxes, reduced government, ushered an economic boom and gave us four years of budget surplus.
Bush talked Reagan and acted Clinton and failed bad. Go figure.
57. Jonathan | 03.12.09
Rush Limbaugh needs pushed off a cliff. Through in the Fox News staff as well and the world will be a better place.
58. not deadyet | 03.12.09
How many Americans have killed and died so Rush can say whatever he wants? Just enough I think. If you agree or disagree with Rush (or any of the other blowhards with a soapbox) you have to agree they he (they) have a right to say it. Case in point - rights. Freedom of Speech is one that comes to mind. I wonder how much a DNC sponsored billboard costs?

A huge difference between the statements by Carville and Rush: Carville made the statement before 9/11, in a time of US peace and prosperity. Rush made the statement during the worst economic crisis to hit the US since the 1930’s. If Obama fails, as Rush wishes, the citizens of the US will face unprecedented misery for decades.
62. tabatha | 03.12.09
I’ve heard this logic before: I want you to fail with your experiment. My experiment failed but I want to continue it. Your experiment might work but mine is still better than yours! Cognitive dissonance!! The problem with wanting Obama to fail is then what? Bush failed. If Obama fails, what is there? anarchy? But I agree, why listen to a complete IDIOT like rush.
63. BWJebbs | 03.12.09
I truly find it extremely concerning that the DNC and especially the current administration have nothing better to do than to bash a radio talk show host. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, who cares, this is absurd. The real question is what are they doing behind the scenes that they need to distract the main stream media with **** like this for. So much for the “transparency”.

Wow to think 80,000 people have nothing better to do than come up with an anti Rush slogan. Also who is paying for the billboard. Why not give that money to a needy organization like a soup kitchen and feed some people who can’t afford a meal right now. Last I knew it is the people who “chose” to listen to the radio program. If you don’t like it don’t listen. This is America where we all have a right to freedom of speech. Half the country wanted Bush to fail, half the country wanted Clinton to fail. This is nothing new. Giving what Rush Limbaugh said legitimacy by publicly soliciting anti Rush slogans is actually making him more important. The 80,000 people should spend their time going through the attic finding clothes to give to the poor. That would have a much bigger impact in a very positive way.
70. Ben | 03.12.09
Those who have the idiocy to say things like the Dems committed ‘treasonous’ behavior the last 8 years need to pull their heads out of the sand (or whatever hole they have their heads in). Even in the short period of Democratic majority in the early 2000’s, Tom Daschle and the rest of the spineless Dem leadership rolled over for Bush, for fear of appearing unpatriotic. What did they get for their loyalty? Smear campaigns (we haven’t forgotten the knife in Sen Cleland’s back, and we haven’t forgotten the irony of a party of draft-dodging cowards trashing the reps of REAL soldiers and sailors who served while their Republican brethren found ‘better things to do’ in the 60’s).
My excitement over the 08 elections has wilted in the face of the same partisan **** that’s destroyed the middle class, and therefore America since the 80’s. RIP, American Dream. Long live the American Nightmare.

typical democrat strategy, to take on the person rather than debate the ideas. How about trying to convince Americans that Obama’s ideas will succeed rather than attacking the person who hopes they don’t.
73. Lady M | 03.12.09
I think this whole thing is very funny. The DEMS won everything - they are in control. WHY do they feel they have to respond to a talk show host? If they were so sure of their Leader and his policies, they would just ignore Rush and anything he says. PERHAPS they are trying to move our attention away from Mr. Obama and his decisions? This billboard will just make Rush even more popular than he already is and maybe get people actually thinking about exactly what direction this president (and his Congress) wants our country to move. So I for one am thankful to the Dems - they are getting out the conservative message very nicely!!

Picking up on what someone said earlier … I have worked with many addicts and the earlier comment is right. An overly sweaty face and dilated eyes means he could be on pain pills again, or something else. That is a dead ringer giveaway. I seriously wouldn’t expect Rush to get nervous in front of an audience and start getting sweaty from that. I think he thrives on that…. If anyone can stand near him, take some deep breaths and search for the smell of rotten body oder. That is another dead ringer for a persons body expelling the toxins from the drugs.

Why are DNC playing ‘”DOPE” a Donkey”?
One who has admited and is on “dope” is already a failure himself!
It would be “dopey” to hang that Billboard.
Instead the billboard should read …. “Let us “Dope” a donkey showing the worthy himself blindfolded with him sticking the tail on himself, with one of his but tock labeled “America & The World” and the other labeled “Failure” - with the “pin” “vibrating” between the two but tocks!!!
How about this in contrast to the shot-dead Chimp???!!!

It is all a DNC & Obama money making scheme. The Obama campaign is trying to keep the stream of donations coming. The best way to rile up people is find a good villain and Rush is good at being obnoxious. This is all being learned from our good friend Hugo Chavez who made the USA Empire and George Bush the villains to take away his miserable economic failures. Rush wants socialism to fail not the President. Socialism does a good job of failing on its own.
87. David | 03.12.09
My suggestion for the billboard was Rush is right! But I guess the socialist party is too far left.
88. Walter Payne | 03.12.09
We can see by most of the comments here that even on drugs, Rush is Right!!
89. John C | 03.12.09
Dont the Democrats have more important things to worry about? THey’re in control and are now responsible for fixing everything, like they’ve promised. This doesnt help our country but as usual all they know to do is distract everyone from their massive spending ( which isnt working as Rush predicted - anyone with common sense could foresee this mess).

———-
Pierre, Bush’s habit of only allowing those who totally agreed with him to his speeches and actually removing dissenters from the venue, while Obama invites all to join him and in fact LIKES to listen to the opposition to try to understand their views, kind of throws your statement out the window.

“Setting a world record today for beating a dead horse”
I’m confused.. are people supposed to take this blog seriously? Jimmy do you expect anyone other than fellow right wing nutjobs to believe your hyperbole? Where were your lamentations when your beloved GOP invented the ACORN voting registration scandal out of thin air and proceeded to beat that drum for weeks?
92. Jim Cummings | 03.12.09
Obama had an 81% approval rate in December of ‘08. Now he has an approval rate of 59%. That is the quickest & largest drop of any president recorded. CW Times, Obama’s spending is more than Greorge Washington’s all the way to George W. Bush’s spending combined and we are just in March.

Plain and simple, the DNC doesn’t believe in free speech.
This is the prologue to the Democratic campaign for political censorship.
95. Lee R. | 03.12.09
Ignoring the propagandist is probably a smarter tactic when it seems that the propagandist is already in disrepute.
But…..if you have to have a slogan:
1. “Stop the Rush to the bottom”
2. “Hey, Rush: zealotry is the biggest failure”
3. “Tell him that failure is not an option”

The transcript of Rush’s original comment is here:
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_011609/content/01125113.guest.html
“Look, what he’s talking about is the absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care. I do not want the government in charge of all of these things. I don’t want this to work. So I’m thinking of replying to the guy, ‘Okay, I’ll send you a response, but I don’t need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails.’”
“We’re talking about my country, the United States of America, my nieces, my nephews, your kids, your grandkids. Why in the world do we want to saddle them with more liberalism and socialism? Why would I want to do that? So I can answer it, four words, ‘I hope he fails.’”
98. Doug C | 03.12.09
I think this country was founded on freedom.
Freedom of speech, thought, and opinion. Dems go ahead with your slander waste money it only ultimately helps Rush’s case and draws attention to his activities. Putting it in his hometown is juvenile at best. Why don’t you ,while your at it, soap his windows and TP his house. That would show him, yeah.
Why don’t you fricken people get to work on something constructive rather than the wasting time with such childish attacks.
99. MM | 03.12.09
“At least he is open and honest about what the republicans represent.”
No, he is open an honest about what right-wing conservative Republicans represent. A majority of Republicans and Democrats are much more centrist in their thinking and beliefs, but typically they are much less vocal. Saying what you said would be like someone saying Jesse Jackson represents all Democrats.
As a registered Republican I think Rush is a total goofball in most areas and even in an area I might agree with him on I think he presents it in a stupid manner.
100. spratte | 03.12.09
The media and politicians must think the American people are dumb. We the public watch everynight the news (right or left) and for the last eight years or even prior administrations, we can see the slant/s for one party or the other. Each party think they are right, just look at the blogs here, your no better than the politicians !. As an American-period, I want less government and more of MY MONEY and I really don’t care how we get there, but I’m not hearing it from either side of these lifelong politicians. This is the real problem, them getting the masses to take sides and the problem never will get fixed, so wake up people and stop drinking the cool-aid. Elect honest people and lets remove the current ones. I know that will never happen though, if it could, it would have been done already !
101. Flyfish | 03.12.09
I would have thought that two minutes of hate was enough…but the Democratic Party is making it clear we’re in for 4 more years of hate. Not surprising since we just suffered through 8 years of it. Americans will soon tire of this lame bait and switch tactic.
102. Jimmy | 03.12.09
I don’t think any true American would disagree with Rush’s complete statement without taking it out of context. Then why would we allow a candidate with no experience, questionable associates, and promising everything to everybody become President. He now tries to appoint people who dodge paying their taxes, etc. Wake up people he has already lied to everyone about his promises, that’s a fact he is not doing what he promised. He has already failed. All we have left to see is how badly will he fail. I really hoped for all of our sakes he would succeed but I can see all he is interested in is his politics and image. How would he like to lose his job, medical for is family, best schools for his children. I think he would try a different approach. Maybe we need a billboard to hold him accountable, like “Impeach Obama”. that would help the country more than worrying about what Rush says.
103. james | 03.12.09
I’m sure Rush will be losing sleep over this incredibly clever and vicious attack. Once again Democrats are more interested in slaying their opposition than fixing the problems of our country. democrats are renowned for beating dead horses. like that moron olbermann who still counts down the days bush said mission accomplished. or how about pitching all our money to the companies that screwed things up so badly. putting out a fire with gasoline? But Obama sure sounds sincere, and he does have a charming smile.
104. Jason | 03.12.09
OK people get facts straight before posting:
1) This is the DNC paying for this lame billboard, not Obama, not your goverment, and not your tax dollars
2) This has nothing to do with 1st amendment freedom of speech, left or right. No one is suppressing speech, only adding to it.
3) James Carville is not by a long shot equatable to Rush Limbaugh. Most people don’t even know whom Carville is.
4) I’ve never known liberals in general to want Bush to fail is his efforts to lead America, find some facts to back that up please
5) Please research what “socialism” means before talking about it. 60 years of propaganda have infused the two very different philosophies of Soviet Communism and goverment social programs. Please educate yourselves. And for God’s sake if you’re going to complain about goverment investment into social programs, at least realize the hypocracy of doing so on the Internet. Go post on CompuServe!

How ironic the message: “Americans didn’t vote for a Rush to failure.” Since this is exactly what Pelosi, Obama, Reid, and their fellow Liberals have been doing.
Rushing forward with wasteful spending, under the guise of doomsday failure. Trillions of our Taxpaying dollars rushed into spending to payback their entitlement voters and supporters.
Now, the same bunch is talking about a second Economic Stimulus bill (Revenge of Porkulous) to waste even more Taxpayer dollars. What is their rush? The first batch of money has not even had time to be printed yet.
Pelosi, Obama, Reid, and their fellow Liberals are rushing around like uncontrolled brats in a candy store. As such, we are doomed to failure.
111. Lise Quinn | 03.12.09
I never hoped bush would fail - I hoped that our country would survive his foolish administration. I think that elevating Rush Limbaugh to ‘party leader’ will turn people away from the Republican party. He may be a money drawing commentator, but he would be a horrific president or party leader. So let us portray him as leading the republican party, this will help to ensure the GOP can’t get their people elected. Go Rush go, be loud, be proud and be an embarrassment to the GOP.
112. Consumatopia | 03.12.09
It should be remembered that Rush was a lot more specific than “I hope Obama/policies/agenda fails” (he’s changed his phrasing repeatedly, and has said each of these ambiguous things numerous times). He also said “I hope this prolongs the recession”. You can’t get any less ambiguous than that in calling for American suffering.
This is important only for one reason–Republicans in Congress are sticking by someone repeatedly and loudly (certainly much more so than Carville) calling for Americans to suffer. And there’s a good chance they share his logic–they hope that economic suffering makes it more likely they’ll be restored to a majority. So when Obama is negotiating with Republicans, it’s worth keeping this context in mind–there is no possible win-win situation, this is completely a zero-sum game, because Obama wants Americans to have jobs while Republicans want Americans to lose jobs–at least until they’re restored to power.
113. me again | 03.12.09
What Rush typically says is what many think in their most hateful moments of frustration. It is you for whom he speaks. The naughty you that wants to strike back in hatred and greed.
If Obama fails, we all fail. If we can’t analyze and plan policies free from big business, war interest and human indifference, we are all going to fail. The Republicans have held this country down in fear while they picked our pockets and left us for dead since the gipper took office. Take your stupidity, your anger, join Rush Limbaugh, and speak your mind! Those of us who think as well as of feel our way through life find your destructive raving most enlightening.
We now have an intelligent President and administration. For some reason that I don’t understand, many confuse intelligent with eloquent and in so doing miss the opportunity to raise the bar through working together. Rush is eloquently holding us back, wasting our time, to serve himself. He neither understands or believes what he says.
All of you need to simply shut him off and ignore him.

This headline sounds like the old story of the donkey who was so busy chasing a gnat that he fell off a cliff. Be careful DNC. Stuff like this often backfires.
I am independent. I quit thinking, “my party can do no wrong.” I’ve decided that both Republican and Democratic parties are politically and morally bankrupt. I vote for candidates who are of sound mind and character who I feel represent my views and interests regardless of party. I have this naive dream that good people will rally together steer us on a course of liberty.
Obama promised change. I hoped that he was not so entrenched in Washington politics that he would by-pass the old political machine. Instead, he has embraced it. No meaningful improvements will occur, it the same vehicle on the same road. Only now, the Democrats are driving.
My only fear is our destination. Bush created a potential police state in Homeland Security. Obama and the Democrats are likely to expand its role as they “change” government by expanding it. They are also likely to continue to centralize power in the Federal Government and expand its roles in the form of new social programs designed to “take care of the American people in this time of need.”
What was it we used to call centralized control of a police state? Was it communism, totalitarianism or some passe term like that? I can’t remember.
115. Ken | 03.12.09
Rush will probably love the publicity. Rush is an entertainer, not a spokesman for conservative America.
To strike back at talk radio, Democrats need to establish appealing, viable talk radio programs. Advertisers did not want to sponsor Air America (http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2983). That would seem to indicate that Air America rhetoric was misaligned with mainstream America.
Inability to establish viable left-wing talk radio programs has encouraged the DNC to revive the Fairness Doctrine, primarily to target right-wing talk radio. The Fairness Doctrine is Orwellian; it violates our constitutional right to free speech.
This latest turn to billboard advertising smacks of desperation.
116. MarvyMarv | 03.12.09
Rush is a perfect example of the perfect conservative Republican. I wish Newsweek would publish more of those flattering pictures of him on the cover.

The DNC is clueless when it comes to political strategy. It’s depressing.
Meanwhile, for Joe Crocker, the following is a bit from a Newsweek article by George W Bush speechwriter David Frum:
==
All of this began even before Obama took office. In his broadcast on Jan. 16, Limbaugh told listeners he had been asked by a major publication for a 400-word statement about his hopes for the new administration:
–I’m thinking of replying to the guy, “OK, I’ll send you a response, but I don’t need 400 words. I need four: I hope he fails.” … See, here’s the point: everybody thinks it’s outrageous to say. Look, even my staff: “Oh, you can’t do that.” Why not? Why is it any different, what’s new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what’s gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here … I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: “Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.” Somebody’s gotta say it.–
Notice that Limbaugh did not say: “I hope the administration’s liberal plans fail.” Or (better): “I know the administration’s liberal plans will fail.” Or (best): “I fear that this administration’s liberal plans will fail, as liberal plans usually do.” If it had been phrased that way, nobody could have used Limbaugh’s words to misrepresent conservatives as clueless, indifferent or gleeful in the face of the most painful economic crisis in a generation. But then, if it had been phrased that way, nobody would have quoted his words at all—and as Limbaugh himself said, being “headlined” was the point of the exercise. If it had been phrased that way, Limbaugh’s face would not now be adorning the covers of magazines. He phrased his hope in a way that drew maximum attention to himself, offered maximum benefit to the administration and did maximum harm to the party he claims to support.

Thanks DNC for the new anti-Obama slogan, “Rush to failure”. This describes exactly Obama’s first 100 days with the stimulus package.

You DNC crybabies can only complain about Rush. You tried many times to compete against him only to fail miserably. Air America, with Big Al “I am going to take down that big fat liar” Franken, he was so educated, Harvard I believe. You have all your lib cronies on National TV going after him and you still can’t stop an AM radio Jock. You should worry and you should keep attacking him. Because with all your “Big Guns” out there, you only bring more people to listen to his message and you should really worry that most of them will finally realize he’s right. So with all of your smart people out there who fail at attacking Rush intellectually, can only attack him for his physical attributes and his past drug use. (Typical Democratic cowardice). Oh by the way if we put Obama on that level than we should talk more about his really illegal drug use. Last I heard that most people caught using cocaine usually did time. And let’s not forget about Obama’s ties with Rev Wright and other upstanding anti-Americans. I know, I know it’s only OK if Dem’s do it. Jeez, what Hypocrites

You libs are pathetic. This billboard, IF it’s the one that was actually picked is a WIN/WIN for Rush Limbaugh, because using the word “RUSH” as a noun in reference to Rush Limbaugh…it argues the American public didn’t vote for a “Rush” caused failure. You’re right…he’s not responsible for the insanity of the current administration. He’s a private citizen voicing his constitutionally given right to object. He’s trying to wake up this country to the socialistic goals of Obama and the Dems. If used as a verb, no the American public DIDN’T vote for a “rush” to failure but that is EXACTLY where Obama IS taking us! The libs are too smug and blinded by their sycophantic addiction to Obama that you don’t even know when you are slamming yourselves. HA!
128. KS2 Problema | 03.12.09
I hate to spoil the new “narrative” that you media drones appear to have settled upon… but Carville — who is certifiably a piece of work, I’ll be the first to say — withdrew his comments at the end of the talk he gave them in. Why? Because the date was 9/11/2001 and the attacks had just become known at the end of the event. He — prudently — showed loyalty to his country — and President Bush — in the light of trouble.
Limbaugh should show such flexibility.

Many Democrat leaders never tired of mouthing the absurd mantra “I support the troops but not their mission”. Borrowing from geniuses like Kerry, Kennedy, Harry “the war is lost” Reid, and Pelosi I would like to say that I support the President but not his policies.
The Democrats love of freedom of speech and open debate is well illustrated by the attack on Rush Limbaugh coordinated by the White House and picked up by the brain-dead media. Why do you think that they never mention that Limbaugh’s comments included the important qualifier that he wants Obama to fail IF (message to Democrats: check out the meaning of “if”) his policies lead to socialism and attendant loss of personal freedom? Answer? Because they are scared stiff of addressing the substance what Rush Limbaugh says. That’s why they settle for absurd stunts like the billboard.
Nothing is more revealing on so many levels about this bunch than their billboad. They have played right into the hands of Rush Limbaugh and I for one am loving the fact that they took the bait and opened the door to a real debate about what is going on in the US.

134. Brent | 03.12.09
Jason - Nicely put. But like I put in my previous post, most don’t want to know the facts, much less discuss them (the vast majority of the comments here are a testament to that). They just want to say ‘I am right…you are stupid’. I suppose it can’t be much different, seeing as how this is how the news media (from so-called ‘balanced’ mainstream sources to admittedly bias talk shows) delivers the news. Here’s the recipe: invite a couple of people from opposing points of view - ideally one strong one to hold up the slant of the given media outlet and one sacrificial lamb for the opposition - give them a controversial topic and five minutes to see who can make the other one look stupid the fastest. Viewers and listeners self select to tune into only those outlets that support their already-established point of view and pick up little nuggets to throw at people with opposing views, be it online, at work, what have you.
And in the end, what do we get? Arrogance. Culture wars. Senseless bickering. In short, no one looking for real solutions…just amo to continue saying: ‘I’m right…you’re stupid’, neither one noticing that both sides are doing their part to bring down the already sinking ship. Oh yeah, the other thing we get is a bunch of talking heads that become more rich and powerful as we they play the public like a fiddle.

Why don’t the democrats and republicans both turn all of their energy to insuring that by the year 2020 there is still a United States of America that has not been decimated by a financial crisis, unemployment, civil war, and loss of Democracy? I am not impressed by both side’s reprehensible behavior and pork barreling while we continue down a path to extinction. It is akin to brainwashed cult members, following along without any sense of reason or common sense. Yes, these fools are going down with the ship, no matter what. I, as a Republican, submitted a number of ideas myself, none of which were anti-Limbaugh. I am sure quite a few people submitted suggestions which were contrary to what the DNC wanted top read, but of course the DNC is counting those in its spin to make it look like there were 80,000 anti-Rush suggestions.
In fact, knowing Rush’s drawing power, I would venture to say that a *significant* percentage of those 80,000 were anti-DNC…

Actually, this strategy of tying the republican party to Rush is brilliant. The republicans stabbed Obama in the back after he made the changes he wanted in the stimilus bill None of them voted for it. They did this because rush told them to in his appeal to their narrow base. The vast majority of swing voters and moderates view rush as a big negative. The more they can tie the republicans to rush, the more seats they will win in 2010. The RNC needs some balls.

Wow, are you kidding me?!
I’m not a Dem nor a Repub, but this is ABSURD and an embarassment to the country! In the middle of an economic crisis, the majority party, who is supposed to be fixing things, is bent on breaking one guy who said 4 words on radio. It IS a distraction, it’s a WASTE of $, and STUPID.
Rush Limbaugh does not represent my views, but I would really wonder how the wiser Democrats are reacting to this. The Republican core values on small gov’t and conservative fiscal policy are actually starting to sound better than all this billion, trillion dollar spending that has happened WAY too fast.
I vote for BHO, but I’m kind of regretting it.
146. bgreen2224 | 03.12.09
The billboard reveals a considerable shortage of talent and creativity and is actually a perfect response to the Republicans as they wallow in their own muck of desperation.
So far as hoping Bush fails being a justification for hoping Obama fails, we once again see the Republican philosophy used to justify stupidity. An eye for an eye rises once again to the surface of the Republican mind and should convince everyone that this is a party that has long outlived its utility.
While it was patriotic to hope that Bush would fail in his efforts to turn the office of the president into a dictatorship by stripping Americans of their basic rights of privacy and false imprisonment, only a Republican could twist that into justification for wanting Obama to fail.
Essentially the Republican way of thinking is as dead as Reagan and simply requires a coffin and speedy burial as it is already beginning to stink.

What’s the difference between Rush Limbaugh and Osama bin laden? (in terms of fundamental pick-a-fight ideological beliefs)
Rush gets more air time!

149. Mike | 03.12.09
There is a huge difference between the left wanting President Bush’s War on Terror policies to fail - essentially taking the side of the enemy instead of the side of our troops - and Rush (and a huge number of Americans) wanting President Obama’s socialist fiscal policies to fail.
When you look at them, the President’s economic ideas are inherently incompatible with both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The honest, straightforward approach would be for all of you non-producing, hands-out liberals to secede from the USA, and create the United Socialist States of Amerika, or whatever you want to call it. You can create your version of utopia there, while the rest of us can get back to the hard-working, responsible freedom, self-determination model that this country was founded on, and which worked so well while we followed it. You can have open borders; we’ll have national security. You can have freedom without responsibility; we’ll have freedom with responsibility. You can have equality as an outcome; we’ll have “created equal” and then the rest is up to the individual. You can create your own fictional version of history; we’ll teach it as it happened. You can feel; we will think. You can fail miserably while extolling your freedom and equality; we will succeed by acting like adults.
By the way, have you noticed that President Obama has continued almost all of President Bush’s policies regarding the War on Terror? I’m confused by this, because I was told for so long that this was was fictitious, contrived, lost, evil, and President Obama was going to end it immediately. So far we have no change in the timetable to leave Iraq, a statement about not waterboarding any more (gimme a break!), he carelessly ****** off our best ally, and a statement that we would close Guantanamo within a year (oops - with no exit plan - how can that be?). I believe the messiah had one **** of an education between the election and the inauguration. Welcome to reality.
For being so brilliant, it’s amazing to me how the actions and opinions have changed between the election campaign and the presidency. Surely his election statements weren’t flawed because he was spouting off based on very little knowledge of what he was talking about? Surely they weren’t fundamentally flawed based on a cursory review of history and economics? Nah…these guys are so smart, all we have to do is elect them and we won’t have to worry about making our mortgage payments or filling our gas tanks any more. Our system of government was based upon the assumption of an informed electorate. The informed electorate listened to the campaign rhetoric and saw right through it as being unrealistic. The uninformed electorate voted for President Obama and are the ones who are increasingly confused and dismayed that reality isn’t following the promise.
God help us. God bless the USA, and God bless Texas.

Here is a very good suggestion for all you libs: why don’t you sit down with some Conservatives and LISTEN to them explain to you the real truth. Then you will see what is really going on. No yelling. No insults. Just listen and write down questions. Then after they explain the truth, you will know why so many Americans realize that the alphabet media is full of bs and why true enlightened Americans have only Radio to believe. We read, we watch, we listen, we learn, we decide.
Sit down.
Get some coffe.
Listen.

The billboard, if there is to be one, might say “so what?”
That is about all the time and energy and attention Rush Limbaugh et al, Inc., deserves. Why are we engaging in this dialogue with that “person”? After all, that is what the billboard represents–an ongoing dialogue and a challenge for him/them to respond, and for a continued escalation of wits. Sophomoric sparring is idiocy when life as we know it on the planet is at stake. COME ON, get a life. There is vital work to be done people, and no time to lose. Thank you.
155. mark - truth | 03.12.09
RM - what failed policies - the man has been in office for less than two months. His policies have not even been implemented yet. The economic failure is the result of bush and republican policy failures. As was the war, the first trillion dollar deficit. Do you know how government works?
And to Sean-O, didn’t Cheney say deficits matter. Why do they matter to dittoheads now?
156. Larry Dee | 03.12.09
I wish and hope that the RNC HAS THE BACKBONE to respond in kind to this type of attack by running a billboard or a TV ad something like this:
“HEY BO, WHERE’S THE CUTBACK IN SPENDING, AND THE ELIMINATION OF EARMARKS, AND THE TOTAL TRANSPERANCY THAT YOU PROMISED?”
Talk is cheap…but action is the real test of an individual.
157. Kimberly | 03.12.09

OK. So you would not send the COAST GUARD out there to rescue one teenager capsized in the ocean and lost at sea …. because his loss would make zero DOLLAR impact but here the COAST GUARD deployment would cost $30,000 to $100,000 dollars for that (POSSIBLE) rescue!!!
$10 TRILLION has been WASTED in the PAST and GOBBLED UP by FINANCIAL HOT AIR BALOONS - SUBPRIME LOANS (profit for UNREGULATED few) - OTHER BALOONS that should not be mentioned here - ENRONISK BALOONS … combine that with the FINANCIAL WIPE-OUT going on today - that alone will be worth $50 TRILLION LOSS - 3 MILLION PEOPLE UN EMPLOYED for the profit of a few LOSS MAKING OUTFITS !!! So, if not salvaged by spending just this $2.4 Trillion today - is just left to your INTELIGENT Imagination !!!

I find it amazing that the donkey club all state that Rush Limbaugh said he wants Obama to fail. HE DID NOT STATE any such thing! Rush said that he would like Obama’s policies of socialism to fail. This is just more donkey propaganda that the dull of mind can not see through and take to heart as fact. The MEDIA is the real culprit in giving such bs legs and now our very own inept democratic congress wants to plaster this garbage on a billboard. Keep it up! Real people with the ability to think are going to outvote the peoples imposters in the Donkey Club in less than two years. We will vote into office people that listen to us as opposed to expect us to listen to them. The scarecrows in congress will have to go back to Oz to figure out what happened after the next elections.

So let me make sure I am understanding this right…you are right and everyone else is stupid. Right? You don’t speak about any real problems, any real solutions, or any real facts you would use to support them…but what is important that everybody knows is that you (and presumably those who think just like you) are smart and rest are stupid.
Alright…I am part of the stupid crowd, but I am here to listen (coffee in hand). First question: do you agree with the government-sponsored bailout plan of financial institutions? If not, what was the best viable alternative?
161. Don | 03.12.09
One writer said something about “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
LIFE–with the opening up of more abortions and the stem cell research what does this say about Obama’s take on life?
LIBERTY–our personal liberties are taken away when the government takes control. Look at the IRS
PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS—How can one pursue happiness when the tax burden will be so huge that no one has anything left? Remember Jimmy Carter.

To mark - truth “what failed policies”
The failed policies of Barack Hussein Obama start with:
The multi-trillion dollar deficit spending that most economists agree will have disasterous economic results; while not helping the people that really need it.
The many other proposed socialistic spending (welfare) programs that have been proven failures world-wide, over mant decades, are now becoming “Barack Obama’s failed policies”.
Try reading a history book sometime.

Camille Paglia said it best yesterday when she scored the silly jejune childish attack by Obama on a private citizen exercising his First Amendment rights. The biggest scandal is that not a few of the blowhards railing against Rush are also attacking Rush—for being so successful at what he does. Mark minus Truth really doesn’t see the difference between a VP’s off-the-record quoted comments and a POTUS who is making generational grand larceny the hallmark of his administration? And that Democrats insisting banks give defective clients mortgages or face scrutiny by the likes of Barney Frank & Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac didn’t precipitate this avalanche of toxic debt? Whew!
BHO is even disappointing economists and investors/businessmen [Warren Buffet, Andy Grove, et al] who voted for him but now believe he and Geithner and Summers haven’t got a clue as to what to do and are flailing like dervishes trying to look like they are doing something. What they’re doing is running up a deficit five times larger than GWB’s if their “plans” work out!?! Camille is right. The DNC is a complete shambolic Chicago crime spree.

This billboard is great as 98% of the people riding pass will correctly associate the message to the disaster which is the Obama administration.
Conservatives should simply co-opt this message to a billboard across the street from the White House!
Others for variety would be “Why is Barry Obama Rushing toward Failure?, “This is not the Failure we RUSHED to vote for!” or “Unprepared to be the First, RUSHING to be the Worst!”

Before all this happened, Rush had 23 million daily listeners. Now, with all this brouhaha he will increase the numbers of his listeners dramatically. This program all by itself makes profits for thousands of small radio stations.
What is really going on is a phased program to shut down Conservative radio by a new “Fairness doctrine.” The pre-Reagan era doctrine is a non-starter because of Constitutional issues. But, the plan is for the FCC to use its regulatory authority to force local stations to have a programming “Policy Board” composed of people like “Community Organizers.” They will ensure community values with veto power over the station owners’ programming preferences, even if it makes the stations unprofitable. This way the Democrats can say it was a “Community” decision,, but the effect is the same as the old Fairness Doctrine. I expect members of ACORN will line up to staff the Policy Boards.
Make no mistake, Rush is the poster boy, but the campaign is to silence free speech.

181. Laird Popkin | 03.12.09
This article follows the lazy “false equivalance” approach that is too popular with gutless reporters. It’s always safe (and allows the writer to be smugly superior) to blame both parties, but it’s generally quite misleading, because the situations that the writer stretches to equate rarely are comparable. For example, in this case there are two huge differences between the two uses of the word “fail” that make them far from equal. First, what they’re saying that they want to fail. And second, the context of the discussion.
Carville said that he wanted Bush to fail to move his political agenda forward. That’s certainly partisan, but far from unusual in a democracy, as he felt that Bush’s political agenda was bad for the country. Rush wants Obama’s stimulus package to fail to keep the country from falling into a depression. That’s not being merely partisan, that’s hoping that the country fails, because (1) it’s stunningly unpatriotic, and (2) it exemplifies the (recent) Republican track record of caring only about ideology and not results.
Second, the context is very different. Carville was speaking in a time of relative peace and prosperity. As soon as the country was in a crisis, he immediately took back everything that he’d said, because he’s smart enough to know that partisan competition that is healthy in peaceful times is destructive in a crisis. Rush, on the other hand, either doesn’t know or doesn’t care, and is actively working to undermine the President at a time when the country is in a deep and worsening financial crisis.
What’s really going on is that Rush is pursuing a PR strategy that is good for him personally, but which is bad for both the Republican party and the country.
The key fact is that Rush can be a hugely successful radio performer with an audience of 10m listeners who love him, but 100m people who hate him. On the other hand, the Republican party has to appeal to a broader base of voters in order to have any chance of winning elections. What Rush is doing is appealing to a small, devoted following but alienates mainstream voters.
The Republican Party is somewhat trapped, because they have to placate Rush because his followers are the core of the party, but doing so alienates the mainstream voters that they need to win elections. They’re trying to have it both ways, by saying moderate things to the press, then apologizing to Rush, but it’s coming off as pathetic and spineless.
On the flip side, the Democrats are happy to use this opportunity to tie the Republicans to Rush, because every moderate voter that he drives away from the Republican party makes their job easier in the 2010.
So you get Rush and the Democratic Party happily promoting Rush as the leader of the Republicans, to their mutual benefit, with the Republican Party trapped in the middle.
182. Ron | 03.12.09
Rush is not concerned whether his press is good or bad, his job is to get into the news. He doesn’t care whether he is doing damage, his job is to get into the news. I have been following the give and take going on today on this board. Posters such as Dave (THE LIBERAL ONE) demonstrate the typical Leftist mode of operation on boards such as this. They can’t win an honest debate based on facts and on the real core issues, so they always readily resort to belittling, name-calling, personal insults, distortions, and childish retorts. They never offer any time-proven constructive solutions to real life problems. In fact, liberals don’t want ANY debate if you disagree with them. God forbid they confront the truth of their failures and honestly deal with them. They don’t want to level the playing field, they want to clear it of all oppostion. Nothing coming out of Washington, D.C. is bipartisan now. Democrats are overreaching now and people are beginning to clearly see that. Democrats own this mess now. Liberals like Dave (THE LIBERAL ONE) are not part of the solution, THEY ARE THE PROBLEM we confront in this country today. Now I guess I can expect him to come back at me with some snide juvenile remark since I’ve tweaked his ego.

Fact: Bush entered Iraq on a lie. Now Iraq is a quagmire that we’re struggling to get out of and probably won’t for a long time. We had Saddam Hussein hunkered down with our overflights while he held the many ethnic groups in check and kept Al Qaeda out. We lost 4000 good men and women for what?
Fact: Bush allowed illegal wire tapping of American citizens. A quick search of “fbi illegal wiretaps” should (probably not) convince you.
Fact: Bush pushed through tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations (oil anyone?) that helped push our economy into recession. Trickle down economics have turned out to be more Republican mush (unless you’re one at the receiving end of those tax cuts.)
Fact: Bush turned world empathy after 9/11 into world disgust with America by pursuing his cowboy diplomacy.
Fact: The Bush administration outed a CIA agent to punish her for her husband’s stand on enrichable uranium in Africa, which proved to be true but unusable for the neocons in their lies to the American people.
Enough facts?
191. Brent | 03.12.09
Justin – By most Rush listeners, I suppose I would be considered a liberal. While both sides here are guilty of name-calling with little or no substantiation, it is consistently those on the conservative side claiming that the liberals are idiots and if they would only listen to the conservatives, they would start to see the light. Well, I have asked a previous poster to illuminate me on what is the core of what Rush’s (and arguably the True Conservatives’) main point of contention with Obama: his being a socialist, as evidenced by the bailout package (never mind that it was drafted by the previous administration). The poster didn’t respond so I will put the question to you: if the current government action constitutes socialism, what would be a better alternative? Feel free to take your time to go back to Rush’s website to see which talking points are the ones you are supposed to use.

Liberals always need a demon, and for the moment, Rush Limbaugh has the target on his back. For the past 8 years it was Bush and Cheney. If they don’t have a demon, they conveniently invent one. This whole business of jumping all over Limbaugh now is to DISTRACT people from the real issues and what exactly is in going on here. You can basically take everything that comes out of Obama’s mouth and interpret that to mean the exact opposite.
There’s a grass roots movement gaining momentum out there in the country, and it’s going to sweep over this country like a tidal wave soon enough. The Dems are over-reaching, but they can’t help themselves. Remember, over 50 MILLION people voted AGAINST Obama just four months ago. That’s not even considering the millions of people who didn’t vote at all who don’t like what they see happening to their country and their grandchildren’s futures, to say nothing of the many Obama voters who are now reconsidering the “CHANGE” they are getting now. With Congressional approval ratings currently the lowest ever in history, coupled with the dramatic drop to date in Obama’s approval numbers, (and undoubtedly more nose-diving to come), the
“rebellion” is steadily gaining strength. Let’s just see where the approval numbers are in a year or two and then see who’s right, shall we? These clowns in the White House are in way over their heads and haven’t the slightest clue what to do to pull us out of this mess. That is becoming more and more evident with each passing day. SOCIALISM IN AMERICA IS DOOMED TO FAIL. Unfortunately, this is a painful lesson we’ll all have to learn for the foreseeable future, and will affect the next two or three generations of Americans.

Don’t get me wrong - President Bush and his team made huge mistakes in executing the war - I’m not a blind follower.
Not interested in writing a book - my main concern is that when one reads the Declaration, the Constitution, the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers, and then looks around, our current national government is a completely different model than what the founders established.

So, the lesson is both Parties, Liberals and Conservatives hope their opponents will Fail. Yet Conservatives, are the only ones who said that it was wrong to oppose the president in a time of Crisis, and then turned around and did just that, and were confused when people were upset at them being hypocritical. Also isn’t there a difference between thinking someone will fail, or even hopping someone will fail, and out and out Saying You hope they will Fail. It amazes me how the outspoken conservatives are so oudaciously hypocritical. Gay is wrong, unless you’re a senator hitting on interns. Marriage before Sex, unless your the daughter of a Republican, but they’re going to get Married, oh wait they aren’t now. It’s not the opinion that’s the problem, it’s the unwillingness to stick to it, and then the surprise when everyone sees the hypocracy. Even worse, is the Everyone sees it except the Hypocrite. Values are things that stand up to a test. Non of the Conservative “Values” stand up to any tests. They have no true values, only shallow platitudes. That’s the problem. We need Conservative Spokesmen who espouse Values, that can stand up to a test.

So, we “RUSH” through a stimulus package, TARP2, spending bills, etc. with no oversight or even time to read the bill. So bad that we now have “signing statements” to modify what Congress approved and the President signed, as the initial bills were flawed and questionable and needed after-passing revisions.
Then the DOW continues to crater, and we’re told we have to do more.
Now the DNC states we didn’t vote for “a rush to failure”. Are they going to take their time and try to do a competent job with future bills?

The guy can’t even get his administration staffed with the most gracious six-month headstart ever provided to any incoming president.
Looooo-zer
207. Dave Drum | 03.12.09
It’s an inexpensive form of advertising, is a billboard. I live in a moderate sized state capitol and a large, full-colour advert can be placed for a month for under U$500. Cape Girardeau, MO is less than half the size of my city - so prices should be no more than here.
The publicity generated from the DNC placing an anti-Rush billboard in his hometown is worth FAR more than the very modest cash outlay.
208. Elaine | 03.12.09
This is a perfect example of the DNC not wanting to admit they picked a failure as president. No wonder they jump at anything they can, taking words out of context to try and smear someone who is speaking the absolute truth.
What did Rush Really Say??????. You will never hear the truth from a democrat.
209. MW-Denver | 03.12.09
For all of you liberals out there. Here is a little common sense for you. You might have to have some conservative translate it for you
“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”
Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931 - 2005
BTW: Dave the liberal; get a clue. Fact!

Every time some one declares Rush to be an addict, I have to wonder: ‘Who is the hypocrite here?’
Rush told his national audience he’d become addicted to prescription drugs, after obtaining them for a legitimate physical condition, he took a leave of absence to enter a rehab program and STOPPED using, and has spoken about how wrong it was. After being ‘outed’ in a tabloid by the housekeeper who had gotten immunity for being his ‘dealer’, he was hounded by a prosecutor who accused him of ‘doctor shopping’ the PARTNER sharing an office with his doctor!
Obama wrote in both his autobiographies that he used marijuana and cocaine…both reportedly illegally obtained, and has NEVER claimed to have stopped using these illegal substances. He also admits using addictive cigarettes.
Looks to me like YOUR guy is the stoned addict.
211. RWSJim | 03.12.09
Wow. Think of the number of homeless and single mothers and downtrodden and out of work people that could be helped with the amount of money the DNC is going to spend on a personal attack. Laudable, dems. You must be proud.
212. Stone | 03.12.09
Candidly, I view all this as an outrageous waste of time. We finally have someone in the White House for whom such things as thoughtful and nuanced ideas are not anathema. This will probably not happen again in my lifetime. We should seize such an opportunity and not be distracted. This whole stupid obsession over Rush shows that some in the DNC still think they’re in the campaign. They’re not. It’s over and they won. Do they get it? They won.
Now drop this Rush nonsense, and let’s go forward on the urgent fronts of a teetering economy, the need for clean domestic energy, for globally competitive education, for easily available health care, for greater cohesion among our allies abroad, for holding the international line against calculated terror against cultural pluralism, for holding the international line on global diplomacy and the rule of law, and the need for proceeding internationally and cooperatively on addressing polar warming and global climate control.
213. Ryan | 03.12.09
What can be said. The man has a big microphone.
I’m of a mixed opinion on the whole thing. I feel that Obama is trying to exhibit a certain amount of class (whether he is or not is not for me to say), and I am not sure this campaign was exactly taking the high road. On top of that, it’s Limbaugh. He is extremely tough to take seriously due to some really ignorant statements. On the other hand, this is also the people at work. This isn’t a statement out of Obama’s mouth or from the DNC’s mouth necessarily. This is the people talking, which can lead one to assume that it might be worth talking about.
Ah, the theatre of government…
214. Real Limbaugh | 03.13.09
Rush me some more drugs and fatty foods! Obama eats arugula and exercises, that commie pinko! His wife has more muscle tone than me. Ditto ditto.
215. peglegninja | 03.13.09
If so many liberals hate rush limbaugh why are they listening? (Most people I know don’t listen to him, but also hate him. Which brings up some obvious logical questions.)
216. Angela | 03.13.09
The right accusing anyone of beating a dead horse? Ha!
And no, the Democrats did NOT want Bush to fail. They wanted him out of office, and disagreed with his policies.
217. Mae | 03.13.09
Thanks 15.Dan. My sentiments exactly except I left the Democratic Party before the fiasco of Obama’s nomination. Put your money to better use. Come be an Independent. You’ll feel better about life in general knowing no one can claim you or tell you what to think. How I love the smell of liberation in the morning!
218. rodney | 03.13.09
open your eyes and look and evaluate what has happened in the last 100 days sence the election. abslutly a downward spiral , a dnc puppit on a dnc string . and too many irons in the fire @ one time . we dont need multi tasking from our leaders in this time of need. talk does not get it . and where else are you going to get the stright truth of any thing except from fox news or rush, hanity ,beck.ingrem , orilieh . wake up america. mine and your family will pay for this even our great grand chrildren as it appears to me now . and i can read and am not led by a purse string of dnc or gop. but i do like the slogan. but as it appears there seems to be a rush to failure by the dnc .
219. Kay B. Day | 03.13.09
Having jumped on the latest bash a conservative bandwagon, GQ insulted Michael Steele with what is perhaps the most racially motivated slur imaginable. And no one, not even the GOP, noticed.
We live in challenging times. For either party to push this sort of foolish partisanship is counterproductive. I guess the DNC just doesn’t have anything else to do right now.
Good post, btw.

Rush who? The MNF guy? When I walk past my neighbor’s house, their pet barks. I keep walking and he either stops barking or I can no longer hear him.

How do you manage to see anything with your head so far up?
222. Jason | 03.13.09
This is a very foolish stunt by the DNC… The best thing you can do when dealing with windbags like Limbaugh is to ignore them - just as you would with internet trolls.
In any case, people like Limbaugh serve the interests of no one but themselves, and I’m still astonished that people listen to him when he clearly is out of touch with reality (like most political radio talkshow hosts I’ve heard, both on the left and the right).
To respond to one comment in particular by him mentioned in the article - yes, it is foolish to want a president to fail. If you oppose a policy, that’s different than wanting the whole administration to ‘fail,’ and in any case the best option to offer reasoned arguments and solutions. If you have a good logical argument against a policy, bring it up and use it! Don’t just scream meaningless rhetoric.
223. The other Tim | 03.13.09
“Americans didn’t vote for a Rush to failure.” Is that the best they could come up with?
Rush should buy the next billboard and put up the message “… but that is exactly what we got.”
224. JW Morrison | 03.13.09
I don’t know. I have listened to Air America and I have listened to Limbaugh. Between the two, I couldn’t stand the rants spewed by Air America. Of course, Limbaugh’s bloated opinion of himself is hard to take but his analysis of current topics have been proven right more than wrong. If one doesn’t like listening to him then don’t.
225. Tim | 03.13.09
Yeah, give Rush more ammo. I hope he never goes away and as long as he voices what the other half of Americans think, it s fine by me. I didn’t like McCain but Obama is proving to be a worse choice than I thought.
226. Luther Walters | 03.14.09
Just what does that Billboard mean? I’m sitting here thinking about it and all I can think of is that it sounds like some kind of slap at Obama! Unbelievable. By the way, Rush Limbaugh affiliates should benefit greatly from all this buzz. I’d imagine he just loves it.
227. John R | 03.15.09
Yes, DNC maybe you should place billboards in every major market, or a city, that Rush is popular in. Yeah, that’ll do it. That should help you get your message out. Don’t worry Rush wont a a snappy comeback on his show. Yeah, that’s a great plan, Go for it!
228. terri | 03.15.09
What I find vile and hideous is the president of the United States, engaging in high school antics, ridiculing citizens of this country, etc. George Bush has more class than Barry Hussein Obama will ever have. Obama is not a King. Keep talking Rush
229. Tanya Armour | 03.15.09
The DNC had every Right to hurry and fix the “problem”
We were asked to write what we thought was hitting Limbaugh were
it hurts–I was all in!
I had more than one![I submitted all of these:]
1.bad boy bad boy—goo goo gaa gaa!
2.Bored with Rush??-then Billboard is ashes!
3.Rush? forgot Jesus-Christ: then what’s more funnier than that?
4.Halo America–Goodbye Rush!
5.Roses are Red and Violets are Blue, Rush stinks and Limbaugh do too.
NUMBER 5 IS WHAT I SUBMITTED…SENT THE OTHERS IN BY THE DNC WEBSITE
230. Tokyo Rose | 03.16.09
Your anti Rush comments are in vain. No 1 talk show in america ! Many are listening for his guidance, and heeding his words.
I would suggest you try a boycott of his sponsors. That sometimes works for the liberals…
231. jeanise55 | 03.16.09
i am so sick of giving rush all this attention this guy is a drug addict giving instructions on how to run america and those who support him say they have morals yeah when it comes to infringing on somone else’s rights pride goeth before a fall and i believe with all my heart what is done in the dark will surely come to the light this guy thinks he is the no one person in america he has a listening poplulation of 20 million or so and there are over 300 million of us left who do not care for him or his ideas he is such a bigot which has no copntrol that’s why i know he is using he never stopped and if he did’t have money he would be doing time like the other legal addicts and he’s ugly too.
232. Bruce Donnelly | 03.20.09
You’re all missing the story here. Read the top line again. They asked for suggestions. They got 80,000. They keep telling us how Obama compiled an email list of 12 - 14,000,000 supporters in his campaign - now turned over to the DNC as “Organizing for America”, which is now going to be out this weekend lobbying individuals to call members of Congress.
This is a pathetic response rate. It shows that they couldn’t even get their most ardent anti-Rush zealots to get very interested or creative. How many already wish that they weren’t even on that email list - after 60 days?

Never argue with someone who has a microphone. It is the first rule of discourse. A withering boredom of this blowhard would better serve the DNC.
