Chia Obama - a perfect gift for Easter? Walgreens says no

Looking for that perfect Easter gift?

Some have said that nothing quite says "I love you" like the gift of a Chia pet. You know Chia -- the pottery that grows.

It all started with the original Chia cow back in 1982. The premise is simple. The clay statue is laced with seeds. You water it. And with Mother Nature's help, seedlings sprout. Making the cow fluff out with green "hair."

What could be more beautiful? Or logical?

Over the course of 27 years, many new Chias have been produced. There's a Chia Scooby Doo. Chia Bart Simpson. Chia Kung Fu Panda.

POTUS

And now.... Chia Obama.

The latest from Joseph Enterprises (they produce "the clapper" too) is a bust of the 44th President with the words "Yes we can!" engraved on the side of the statuette.

Patriotic

Although it looks nothing like President Obama, the company claims it is not only a special edition Chia, but also a collector's item.

"Chia Obama is a symbol of liberty, opportunity, prosperity, and hope," the hyper-patriotic announcer says. "Chia Obama makes the statement, I'm proud to be an American."

Not patriotic

If you want to buy a Chia Obama, you might have to get one online. Walgreens is pulling the item from its shelves in at least two cities. They say that the item "is not appropriate for the company's corporate image."

The good news is, however, you can still purchase a battery operated singing fish from their stores. The "Big Mouth Billy Bass" apparently is appropriate for the company's corporate image.
