Janeane Garofalo says tea parties were for rednecks

By Jimmy Orr | 04.17.09

Hey, if you participated in one of the 700+ “tea parties” held across the nation on April 15th, guess what?

Actress and former comedienne Janeane Garofalo doesn’t like you.

Garofalo appeared on Keith Olbermann’s show Thursday night, and with guns a blazing she condemned anyone who participated in the tax and spend protests on tax day.

“Let’s be very honest about what this is about,” she said. “It’s not about bashing Democrats, it’s not about taxes, they have no idea what the Boston tea party was about, they don’t know their history at all. This is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up. That is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks.”

Olbermann

That’s a strong statement. Olbermann’s reaction?

He didn’t challenge her. Instead he wondered aloud if the network that gave the most coverage to the tea parties — FOX News — could survive if this were the case.

“If you spear your television network … towards a bunch of guys looking who are just looking for a reason to yell at the black president, eventually you will marginalize yourself out of business, won’t you?” he asked.

FOX doesn’t seem that marginal yet. Last month, the network’s ratings were more than double MSNBC and CNN combined. FOX commentator Bill O’Reilly has now hosted the number one cable news program for 100 months in a row.

Rick’s Rant

Actually it was an NBC colleague of Olbermann’s who started the whole tea party business. CNBC’s Rick Santelli gave birth to the movement after launching into a tirade against the housing bailout back in February.

“We’re thinking of having a Chicago Tea Party in July,” Santelli yelled from the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade. “All you capitalists that want to show up to Lake Michigan, I’m gonna start organizing.”

He didn’t have to wait until July. The first tea party was held less than a week after the rant. Subsequent protests have been held throughout the nation ever since, culminating with the mass tea parties on Wednesday.

He seemed pretty pleased with himself on CNBC Wednesday morning.

“I think that this tea party phenomenon is steeped in American culture and steeped in the American notion to get involved with what’s going on with our government. I haven’t organized. I’m going to have to work to pay my taxes, so I’m not going to be able to get away today. But, I have to tell you — I’m pretty proud of this.”

Janeane

Maybe Garofalo’s rant was just typical Garofalo. A partisan. Like a Rush Limbaugh but on the left.

Although she wouldn’t likely like that comparison. She tore into Limbaugh two months ago, again while appearing on Olbermann’s show. This time the discussion was about Rush and his high disapproval rating among women.

“The type of female who does like Rush is the same type of woman who falls in love with prisoners,” she said getting a chuckle out of Olbermann.

“Eva Braun, Hitler’s girlfriend. That is exactly the type of woman that responds really well to Rush,” she concluded.

Blogosphere

As you can imagine, there is much reaction in the blogosphere.

The PajamaPundit wonders: “So we’re upset cause Fox News has “tricked” the American people into reading and watching it day after day (unlike her radio program which TANKS in the ratings). Anyone who doesn’t agree with Barack Obama’s policies is a racist. My “wife” has stockholm syndrome? These words aren’t even funny…they are just plain out of line. Why does Ms. Garafolo have such hatred toward conservatives? Doesn’t she come from the party of love, choice and tolerance?”

LetFreedomRain buys into Garofalo’s argument: “Sure, Garofalo gets a little graphic and lumps all right wingers into the same pile, but her central argument that the tea parties are more about racism than about taxes is a solid one. If the right expects to regain any of its past glory, it will have to do a better job of accepting criticism…”

TheConservativeBulwark says enough of the race card: “The race card will always be locked and loaded as long as Obama is in the White House. Could she make a valid point as to why our ridiculous tax rates are needed and just? No. Could she argue that our tax laws are appropriate, even though they weigh a few tons? No. She falls back on the standard insult: You disagree with President Obama, therefore you are a racist. The End.”

AikenAreaProgressive, on the other hand, gives a big thank you to Garofalo: “Janeane Garofalo, a real American hero, says it correctly: the conservatives are RACIST REDNECKS.”

Not so, say ChicksOnTheRight. “Look at the love-fest happening between Janeane Garofalo and Keith Olbermann. He’s practically drooling at all of her hate-speech.”

Was Janeane “Pat” from Saturday Night Live? Or was she the successful host on Air America? Olbermann is in a race with Colbert. Wait until Colbert takes him next week in the ratings. Here is the punishing news for those that are following the “left” wing media debacle. It’s not that Fox News is “right” it’s just that they are not “left”. I give you the latest ratings:

(Cable News Networks)
FOXNEWS 3,390,000
MSNBC 1,210,000
CNN 1,070,000
CNN HEADLINE 909,000

(Individual Shows)
FOXNEWS O’REILLY 3,980,000
FOXNEWS HANNITY 3,239,000
FOXNEWS GRETA 2,947,000
FOXNEWS BECK 2,740,000
FOXNEWS BAIER 2,401,000
FOXNEWS SHEP 2,185,000
COMEDY DAILY SHOW 1,777,000
MSNBC OLBERMANN 1,499,000
COMEDY COLBERT 1,446,000
CNNHN GRACE 1,336,000
CNN KING 1,292,000
MSNBC MADDOW 1,149,000
CNN COOPER 1,021,000

Total beatdown. If any of you were a media director for a company, you probably wouldn’t place the companies budget spend with CNN or MSNBC unless you wanted to get fired. Nobody is watching them.

2. Ward Kelly | 04.17.09

“Pat” was actually Julie Sweeney. I get a little thrown off by how successful Air America was…and Keith Olbermann (wasn’t he a sports announcer?)

3. political girl | 04.17.09

I just listened to Janeane Garofalo’s rant about people who participated in the Tea Parties across the country and her general disdain for Fox. Does she realize she works for Fox? Or is her limbic brain pushing up against her frontal lobes and she is a bit confused??

Hmmm, I wonder if she will stop accepting their money? Any bets?

4. Eric | 04.17.09

Janeane Garofalo is arrogant. She is trying to diagnose brain issues of people she has never met or spoken to. She thinks it’s o.k. to call people ******* and then complains of racism. How hypocritical can a person be?! She is a typical arrogant liberal who thinks she knows everybody, inside and out and can determine their motivations without even speaking to them. She passes judgement as if she were god. Let’s all let a B rate comdedian tell us what we think and why. That sounds great. Apparently she has all the answers. And enough of the teabagging jokes. Get some class. All I see in this clip is an arrogant woman leaping to judgement and doing a lot of name calling and bashing. She asks who watches fox news. Check the ratings idiot. Typical liberal! When you got nothing scream “racism”. I guess it’s o.k. for her to pass judgement on people and call them racial slurs like rednecks (another term for white trash) because she is just so much smarter than everyone else. I had no idea she was an expert on the brains of individuals she has never met. Keith Olberman’s show is a joke. It’s like a teenage gossip session. He sits there and makes obnoxious remarks and attacks, but never really covers anything in depth. He just likes to hear himself try and be sharp and witty. But it just comes off as childish. Pretty weak stuff Keith. Should have stuck to sports. And as for Jaeane, what a total clown. Also a great example of intolerance.

5. Russ | 04.17.09

Jaeane Garofalo is a terrible actress and an even worse radio host. She needs to crawl into a corner and shut up. If she was never heard from again . . . would anyone notice??? I think not! Way to yell and try and make yourself relevant for a few days loser!

6. Gringo Dingo | 04.17.09

She’s pretty astute. Nice to hear the tea-baggers defined so articulately well.

As for the bozo posting Faux News ratings, Faux news is a train wreck, of course it attacks big audiences, that has nothing to do with integrity though. I watch it for the laughs. You can;t help but chuckle at how freaking low-brow Hannity is willing to go.

7. curly | 04.17.09

I agree. Just another example of the Propaganda being used against Conservatives and how much of a double standard they (Liberals) have. They can say anything they want and it’s intelligent and true but we (Conservatives) are only brainless bible toting red-necks.

8. Shirlene Witt | 04.17.09

I listen to her ranting re: the tea party participants and all of a sudden I get a mental picture of a ranting Hitler. It had nothing to do with racism. It is about an out of touch and out of control government. A government that is leading us down the road to fascism, socialism, totalitarianism or rather the rape and pillage of the American people by too many non productive government types. I would have gladly voted for a man like Allen Keyes, or a real winner ‘Conde’ Rice.

Every time this Janeane Garofalo opens her mouth she shows how narrow minded and ignorant she truly is. She is a truly sad pathetic person but even sadder is that there are people who think she has anything of value to say.

9. kyle | 04.17.09

Even if the Tea Parties were about hating Obama, Hating a black man does not make you racist; although, hating all black people does… If I hate a white man that does not mean I hate myself. Maybe Janeane needs to go back to MTV where she can try and brainwash teens or something…

10. wtf | 04.17.09

LOL, all that nutty whack job conspiracy talk is sooo typical of her kind.

It’s funny to see the left wing whack jobs so desperate.

In New York, there is over $4.00 tax on a pack of cigarettes now. Over $4.00 just in taxes. Oh yeah but according to the left, thats a justified tax, because according to the left wing communist fascist’s people shouldnt smoke, because they say so.

11. Chris | 04.17.09

I was at a tea party and a year ago I wish JC Watts from Oklahoma was running for POTUS on the (R) side. How does that compute Ms. Garofalo?

- EPIC FAIL -

12. cbenke | 04.17.09

Barfolo knows nothing of the movement and I have always found if you don’t know what is going on-keep your mouth shut! We the people at the tea parties know what they are about, wreckless spending, big governemnt & socialism. Never once did I see or hear anything racist. Our crowd was polite and cilvilized unlike Barfo.

13. Person | 04.17.09

Janine says people don’t even know what Boston tea party was about but she does? What an eog this moron has.

14. Teri | 04.17.09

Ms. Garofalo is again parading her ignorance and bias for all to see. She cannot fathom the idea that anyone might disagree with Barack Obama, so she simply puts it down to racism. This is just an attempt to stifle criticism of Obama by name calling. After all, who wants to be accused of racism?

Unless Garofalo is an omnipotent being, she has no idea as to what any Tea Party participants know or don’t know about history. It simply makes her feel pure and superior to insult those who don’t agree with her. It’s certainly much simpler than attempting to discuss the issues.

15. nuss | 04.17.09

Barfalo is a good name. I had never heard of this woman before this rant on MSNBC. It reminded me why I have long since given up watching this “news” outlet. There was nothing racist at all about these tea parties. And I can’t imagine where she gets this. I think all Americans recognize that Obama’s election is historic. Afterall, he is the first half white president we ever had. I am white, my wife is black, my children (like Obama) are half/half. It would be hard for anyone to say I am a racist. My wife and children certainly know that I am not….and yet, I fully support the spirit of the tea parties, and I am so damn proud of all the Americans across the Nation who participated. Also, I am sure that I am not stupid. I might even argue that I am smarter than Barfo. I am a tenured professor at a major university, and no one has ever said I am stupid. It is abundantly clear that barfo and the talking (nodding) head with her, what’s his name…..Kenny Oberhund?? or something like that are the onew who are mentally impaired. Rock on tea parties….don’t let it end there.

16. Jeremy | 04.17.09

She has no idea what she is talking about. She states her biases and prejudices as fact and could not be farther off base. Her rant is an insult to her own party or any who believe like her and diminishes any stance she may hold. She is the one who shows herself to be “dumbed down.” But what is one to expect from a liberal extremist.

17. Jeremy | 04.17.09

Is she telling blatant lies or is she really that blind and stupid. The accusations she throws at the Republican party are like she is describing herself. She has no integrity or not actual knowledge. Is she that blind. How much kool-aid is she drinking?

18. Carl Campbell | 04.17.09

She’s totally correct!I love her!!!!Get over it Obama won. I didn’t hear about this when Bush was in Office. Obama has been in office for around 80+ days. Bush was spending 10 billion dollars per month on the war. Sean Hannity never said anything. Conservation wacky racist!!!

19. Bill | 04.17.09

And her opinion is significant because??????

I live in Atlanta, and I saw many races, creed, political persuasions attending the rally here. and I question not only is Ms. Garafalo not familair herself with what the original Boston Tea party was, neither does she understand the true things these “Tea partys” were for.

NOw because you disagree with the president you’re racist??? What an arrogent moronic statement. I had to stop watching this video less than half way through because Such narrow minder, bigoted, and arrogent sputum was nearly making me sick. Is this the ” change” we have to look forward to?

20. hjgroarke | 04.17.09

“It’s about racism straight up.” Whatever you do, do NOT discuss the issue at hand. Give me a break. She throws a few big words around like “limbic” and “synapse” and you can actually see her sanctimony swell.

Am I mistaken that her argument boils down to “Lou Dobbs has nothing without racism?” Again, do not discuss the issue.

As far as I can tell there is fairly large collection of “rednecks” that do not want to work six months of every year to pay off the government. Same kind of people that founded this country. I have to sign off. I’m sick now.

21. RS ONeill | 04.17.09

I am amazed at her comments. I have never heard anything this ignorant, ever from anyone, period.

22. John | 04.17.09

Ehh, whatever with this whole “Tea Party” business! I’m a proud American that doesn’t mind paying his share of taxes. I’m logical enough to understand that without the people paying taxes, there won’t be police officers, fire fighters, school teachers, military, paved roads, freeways, etc., etc. I’m not going to go and use public amenities, then turn around and complain about paying taxes! These “Tea Party” people are being hypocritical, and should find better things to do with their time - like maybe volunteer to help their communities, or better yet, to help our country. Bunch of whiners!

23. Drew | 04.17.09

Not to mention all the libertarians/Ron Paul supporters at those tea parties that just want to fight the massive federal power grab promised under the Obama administration. Can conservatives and libertarians finally organize on common ground?

24. jim | 04.17.09

Janeane Garofalo is a Marxist. I was at one of these parties. I have a Master’s degree. My father attended, and he’s a doctor.

25. Trisha | 04.17.09

Is this woman crazy? She wasn’t at a tea party, she doesn’t know what they are about. How can she say it’s nothing but white supremacist *******?! That’s ridiculous, and a LIE! At the tea party I went to, there were NO signs or people who even hinted at hating Obama because he’s a black president. In fact, at the tea party I went to, the M.C. was BLACK! He was wonderful! But I DID see signs saying we love America and the Founding Fathers who gave us our beginnings and got it right and we believe in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Pledge of Allegience, and we sang patriotic songs, and there were many veterans and members and families of the military who have given their lives to keep us the land of the free and the home of the brave. There were moms & dads & kids, no crazy people like Janeane Garofalo dreamed up. What’s wrong with what we believe in? We love capitalism and freedom and don’t want Marxism, socialism, or communism and we don’t want an egotistical dictator who bows to Saudi Muslim kings–We want a President who defends US and OUR country. We don’t want him going through the world apologizing for our “bad” behavior–we’ve done more for the world than any other country. We believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which includes unborn children. We are not vicious haters of Democrats, as they are haters of Republicans and conservatives. We don’t want to be burdened with taxes that even our grandchildren of the future will not be able to bear because our actions today. It’s not just taxes–it’s EVERYthing that’s happened so far in this Administration. How can she call us stupid and sick when we are free to assemble and express dissent–is this government and “tolerance” only for liberals? This “change” is not good for the United States.

26. Albo58 | 04.17.09

I don’t want to accuse either Garofalo or Olbermann of having any common sense because I don’t want to be the first! Both are as nauseating as they are stupid! Their slobbering love/worship for the inept charlatan that is President Obama has totally blinded these fools to the reality of the largest expansion of government and subsequently the largest theft of US taxpayer dollars in recorded history! The president and his Democratic Party henchman in the Congress are totally inept and should be chased out of office ASAP!

27. don | 04.17.09

What is more American than protesting and standing up for what the individual thinks is right. Many feel that spending is out of hand and will cause a debt that will burden all of us and our children. Regardless of how the tea parties were organized or who organized them means nothing. The important thing is people were heard and voiced their discontent. Too bad the left did not do their duty and that was to report this historic event!!

28. Drew | 04.17.09

Hey, John, state and local fire, police and corrections spending accounts for only 4% of total government spending. Look it up. http://snipr.com/fyhtx Oh and roads are largely funded through consumption taxation of fuel, not by income taxes. But you are right about one thing, go volunteer! It’s the only way we’ll see true social progress. Not through federal programs.

29. SteveB | 04.17.09

Ah. Garofalo. The ad hominem attacker extraordinaire. You know, when I think “history” and “human behavior” I just immediately think Janeane Garofalo.
Let’s see: High school graduate and undergraduate in “American Studies” from Providence College; a Catholic/Dominican liberal arts school. Herbivore, tattooed. Athiest. No children. Frequents the New York/Boston area. My favorite Garofalo quote: “The reason a person is a conservative Republican is because something is wrong with them. That’s science — that’s neuroscience. You cannot be well adjusted, open-minded, pluralistic, enlightened and be a Republican. It’s counterintuitive.” As we can see, she’s your prototypical “open minded” person. Well, its a big world and we have room for everyone.

30. Mark | 04.17.09

CNN = Yellow Journalism

31. Melvin | 04.17.09

She is a fringe celebrity on her way out. I think she desperately wants attention or perhaps she feels sucking up to Hollywood liberals will prolong her desperate attempt at a career. She’s an ignorant nobody, don’t pay any attention to her. She’s a bigger joke than the cartoon characters she does voices for.

32. Sam | 04.17.09

I pity this “woman”

33. JEANNIEMAC | 04.17.09

“Racism” was Obama’s ace in the hole. None of the Republicans would say anything negative about him for fear of being called a racist. Obama knew this, and counted on it. When Sarah Palin said Obama “hung out with terrorists”, which was the truth, she was shut down.

34. Lee Tolbert | 04.17.09

Let me get this straight, she calls everyone at the tea parties “rednecks”? If she wants to to know what a racist is, tell her to look in the mirror.

35. Rufus T Firefly | 04.17.09

I think it is only fair that I remind Ms Garofalo of the words of another “progressive” woman.

“I’m sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow you’re not patriotic. We need to stand up and say we’re Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration.”

-Senator Hilary Clinton

RTF

36. Bradley J Morton | 04.17.09

I want to thank you Janeane, for calling me and my family racists and rednecks. It must be so nice to boil down honest dissent against generational bankruptcy and the move towards socialism as hatred of a human being of a different color. Goebbels would have been pleased.

37. joneys | 04.17.09

Ms G. has not a clue about the thoughts and feelings of a growing section of America. Too bad her Mother didn’t use abortion when she was 10 weeks along with this person. Everybody has a right to their voice and thoughts here in the United States so far, even her. It is just too bad that she was raised with the silver spoon in her mouth and that caused her to have such a foul speeking mouth in adulthood.

38. paul metzger | 04.17.09

Where do people(?) like this come from? She is not only an embarassment to our great country, but to herself! Was she an actress at some point, because she sure speaks like the unimformed, uneducated, left-wing, bleeding heart, arrogant hollywood celebrities!

39. MICHELLE G | 04.17.09

Has anyone ever seen one of Janeane Garofalo movies? Maybe we should let the liberals take our freedom of speech away so we dont’t have to be subjected to her movies. Also was this the only person MSNBC could get, they must be hurting even for actors to come on their show. I guess low ratings equals b-rated actresses to your show.

40. Mary | 04.17.09

First of all why does a washed up actress/comedian opinion matter at all? If she even had a clue about her audience she would not have said a thing! Does she get paid for these comments? Second-I went to the SA tea party and I am the furthest thing from what she says I am. Racist/immigrant bashing-I married a illegal(citizen now) in 1983 and had a white/ mexican son who now has a son of his own.

A little hard to be racist against your own family. -I am from a suburb of Chicago(Irish/catholic). Right-winged-I don’t vote for either party but for who I think will do a good job(no one this last election-both were terrible). I also have 2 degrees-1 in nursing and 1 in computers-so I know my history.

I went to tell the goverment-the whole goverment to stop spending our money on companies that by all purposes should go under and spend it on things that will help all of the people-like Medicare. While we are putting money into a car company that has not make a decent car in 20 years we are cutting spending on Medicare which helps our senior citizens. Picture this-you are 70 and need Medicare but your grandchildren and great-grandchildren can not afford to help you because they are paying back the money that was thrown into a car!!! Who thinks that is right???

Can we please stop bashing each other and try to make this country something we can be proud of again? Stop spending money like it grows on trees and start providing for those that really need it? Start electing people that actually will listen to the people and not their party lines(both parties).

Our country is going down fast and noone on the top cares. The republicans are mad because they lost and the democrats are like a rich princess who has daddy’s credit card! Both are pitting the public against each other so we will not notice what they are doing. Time to have it stop and make up our own minds.

One last thing-stop with the Hollywood types-who cares about what they think about anything-remember these are people who get too much money for basically lying. While it is ok to have their opinion-it is not ok to have it shoved down our throats. Thanks for reading this and letting me talk.

NON-racisst/immigant-bashing, and stupid Chicago/Vegas/San Antonio sighning out.

41. Chris | 04.17.09

Labeling dissent towards a President as “hate speech” is one small step away from labelling the same as a “hate crime”, and having the speaker incarcerated. This theory quells true free speech, and is a start down the slippery slope towards Orwellian Socialism. The same can be said for labelling the speaker/dissenter diseased or mentally handicapped. This could allow for having that person institutionalized under the same theory that they are being “cured” or spreading the “disease” further by having children or speaking to others. Suggested reading, “Harrison Bergeron” by Vonnegut.

42. Stephanie | 04.17.09

Everytime I hear a Liberal argue a point, he or she feels the need to sling mud and use foul language. Truly intelligent people would find a better way to communicate. There is no substance in the argument and no forward thinking. Do these folks truly understand the impact of this budget and of the great move toward Socialism? Do they know their history? Do they know the name Karl Marx? Do they understand a free market economy and basic economics?

43. karen | 04.17.09

From my viewpoint, those who participated in the
T(axed) E(nough) A(lready) gatherings are patriots standing up for their God-given rights and the God-given rights of future generations of American citizens as protected by the 1st Amendment of the The Constitution of the United States of America.

44. Mooselook | 04.17.09

Garafolo has a radio show? I didn’t know that. Neither does anyone else, apparently.

45. Richard Terrell | 04.17.09

has had it up to here with these liberal . I think the name calling on the left far exceeds the name calling from the right. We conducted our dissent with respect and in relative calm, considering the anger we all have watching our country be wasted in four month’s time. I am sure that if the economy tanks, as I am sure it will if Obama’s cap and trade passes, and our electric bills go up 30% or more, there will be a revolution. There will be blood in the streets. Count on it. We see our country chasing rabbits like global warming and we are going to throw hundreds of millions of tax dollars at this unproven theory. That is enough to get my blood boiling. How stupid can this administration be? Eight hundred billion dollar bailout and not one rep or senator even read the bill. Would you sign a contract you hadn’t read? Think about it.

46. Angry Write Mail | 04.17.09

John, you might feel differently if you lived in California. We taxpayers pay the bills for hospital services, social services, and public education - only to have millions of illegal aliens come up here and drain the system with their FREE use of our public services that WE have to pay to use. We don’t mind paying our fair share of taxes. But we didn’t labor by the sweat of our brows to have trillions of our tax dollars poured down a bottomless pit to bail out private corporations.

47. Gary | 04.17.09

She is nothing more than a “washed-up “, if you want to call her a celebrity, wannabe! This is her way of attempting to make a name for herself! The only way for her to do that is to attack Fox News and the “Tea Parties!”

48. Frank | 04.17.09

I’ve seen and heard this arrogant and quite clueless individual one two many times. She is obviously a tool for ‘others’ who want to stir the pot of controversy or she never would’ve been allowed air time to begin with. Her analysis paints a picture of someone living in a parallel universe. Her reality versus her understanding of this reality, this present time that we live in simply does not connect either in logic, comprehension, insight or intellectual honesty. In other words, she is nuts…period

49. cfishr | 04.17.09

If this woman (not sure about that either) isn’t the world’s biggest horses patoody I don’t know who is! What was that spewing out of her mouth? It sure wasn’t intelligence. So if someone doesn’t agree with what Obama is doing we are racists? Last time I looked our Democrat controlled Congress and Senate is making a mess of spending my hard earned money and that of my grandchildren and their children who aren’t even born yet! How about getting a real job lady or go to Venequala or Cuba and see how much they love you there. Good grief! Do us all a favor and crawl back under the rock you slithered out of!

50. SBWA | 04.17.09

Well I guess she needs a boycott.
She will do as mush for people to vote for a third party as Obama is doing

51. Carl P. | 04.17.09

I for one am quite happy that the libs DON’T get it & continue to spew thier moronic bile. They have awakened the giant - the ordinary people that work hard, pay taxes, raise their families & would like to have as little of the fruits of their labor confiscated by the government.

So, please do continue CNN, Hollywood, HuffPo, et al. The 2010 elections should be very interesting.

52. Paul Revere | 04.17.09

Dear Mz Garofalo ,
These folks are American citizens working class, businesspeople, Democrats, Republicans, firemen, policemen, lawyers, military vets ,Doctors, bankers, mechanics, children,Christians, Scientists , black, red, yellow , and white races who are standing up to protect their country, as their forefathers did when they observed the USA’s freedoms being attacked by conspirators in government, who would be Indited for crimes against the constitution!

People who say no to bailouts and the disappearance of tax money!
Say no to government bankrupting the USA!

Saying no to government representatives endeavoring to take citizens God given Amendment’s away, ie; First and Second Ammendments !

They are saying no to Homeland Security suggesting that military vets may be terrorists! They are saying no to Homeland deceiving them into believing that their purpose was to keep foreign terrorists out of the USA, who have now turned on America and treat law abiding citizens as terrorists, did you know you maybe considered a terrorist threat if you plant a garden? Do your homework folks, you could be standing in line at the soup kitchens, you, your family just praying to get a bowl of soup!
The people are saying no centralized world banks who with little steps one by one, will march folks off to their demise under control of “One World Government”!
Don’t believe it? Do your homework!

First of all Liberals you need to stop making racism the primary issue and stop giving yourselves an inferiority complex. The people who attended the Tea Parties could care less about race and we are for equality of all individuals. We were focused on the massive spending in Govt. and how our tax dollars are being wasted. This goes for both the Bush and Obama administrations. I am hoping this President does not force this country into bankruptcy. If we end up going into bankruptcy who is going to be willing to lend to us? The PORK spending needs to stop!!!!

54. HEY jANINE | 04.18.09

“TO ANNOUNCE THAT THERE MUST BE NO CRITICISM OF THE PRESIDENT, OR THAT WE ARE TO STAND BY THE PRESIDENT, RIGHT OR WRONG, IS NOT ONLY UNPATRIOTIC AND SERVILE, BUT IS MORALLY TREASONABLE TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC.”
Theodore Roosevelt, President

55. John in Honolulu | 04.18.09

Janeane Garofalo talks about hating a “Black Man in the White House” and yet ends that sentence with a racist remark calling demonstrators at this weeks Tea Parties around the country as “Tea Bagging Rednecks!” Who’s the real racist here?

56. Pablo | 04.18.09

Garafalo is a sick demented lady. She is in need of serious psychological counseling. It is amusing to witness the perspectives of the left when the other side is protesting. What is good for the “goose” is never good for the “gander”. What ever happened to civility?

57. Blake | 04.18.09

My tv is very often on fox news even thou I highly dislike their messages. I just make a point of watching who advertise with them to make sure to never buy any product or service displayed there. This is also a suggestion for all of those that feel the same way I feel about fox. The extreme right is getting desperate, but they’re mostly misguided good people.
What would be the alternative to the bailouts? Certainly not cutting taxes to the rich again, they will not go out and buy a new refrigerator, we didn’t see that happening whenever that happened in the past. Let’s give president Obama at least the benefit of the doubt and let’s see what it is going to happen with this strategy. Keep cutting taxes to the rich people doesn’t sound a little suspicios over and over again?
Nixon and Reagan - extremely smart people - invented this kind of conservatism, where only the wealthy has advantages, but the proletarians are induced into liking it, pushing false values, playing on the goodness and ingenuity of the good people. Some of the tricks they play on us are so blatant, it’s almost funny but yet many people in good faith fall for it. I don’t think any of the liberals really deeply “hate” the conservatives, but I can share sometimes the feelings of Jeanine Garofalo. I’m pretty sure that Nixon and Reagan have lost forever, at least for this particular historical moment, the last administration really pushed too far.

58. Stan Winston | 04.18.09

She’s liberal and proud of it, just like you’re conservative and you’re proud of it. See what I mean?

And just like protesters, she has freedom of speech when she’s on TV. What she says might be stupid but don’t tell me that Sean Hannity is a genius.

Moderate republicans, where are you?

To Paul Revere:there weren’t that many, if any, democrats at the tea parties. How do I know? No anti-Bush signs! Just a whole lot of “Obama, the effin’ Socialist” signs.

59. Mrs. Aitson | 04.18.09

This woman is very bitter. She obviously has issues that none of us will ever be able to help her with. She needs professional help.

…and maybe some medication.

60. David K. McClurkin | 04.18.09

Could it be that the greater majority of Americans know that fair taxation is what is needed to climb out of a national economic depression? As long as a bubble of overvalued assets (houses, derivatives, trade, investments, whatever) is around, some form of central management of national spending seems unimportant. But, when individuals are living in an atmosphere where the false cover is removed as it is now, it takes a firm, specific, and informed approach.

That’s what governments do for the common good. You remember - the “commons” was around in original Boston Tea Party days. Return to the whole view of America in those early days and you can see that we all have to pitch in for the solutions.

And, please give “rednecks” a break. They are part of the hodgepodge we know as America. While they may be foolish enough to assemble for such a pointless cause, they are still our brothers and sisters. What has their being mostly white got to do with it?

61. Robert | 04.18.09

I never heard the tea parties were for “whites only”. Looked to me like anybody could show up who wanted to - even if they wanted to display a counter protest.

The problem with Fox News and right wing views is there is no humor. Plain common sense and truth strikes home but it’s not as much fun to laugh at. The best joke writers are liberals and really don’t care about facts, only that they deliver a laugh to an uninformed audience.

Of course the “uninformed” don’t want to be a part of the group being laughed at so they tune in to Garofalo, Olberman, Maddow, and left wing commedy shows. This is to reassure themselves they are making the correct political choice. Surely you wouldn’t want Rachel Maddow “smirking” at your views?

Listening to the post tea party outrage, I would say the left was definitely receiving the “tea bag” on April 15.

62. carolyn branch | 04.18.09

Right on to Janeane, she is 110% right about EVERYTHING she’s feeling. And I got her back ALL the way. I just want to add that people that were, and are working for a lousy minimum wage of 6, 7, $8.00 an hr; while some folks made 9, to $500.00 an hr. should have hit the streets in protest a long time ago. You people that make a decent wage should’nt mind paying higher taxes. After all some of you make your money off the public any how, So stop ******** and be glad you got it like that.

63. Tyler | 04.18.09

I think she is right on the history, these new tea parties have nothing to do with the original one in boston. It is NOT taxation without representation. thats just rediculous.

also, they are protesting reckless spending by buying millions of tea bags? i love me some irony, but thats just too much.

64. John Adams | 04.18.09

Memo to Fox writing staff: Terminate 24 character Janis Gold played by Janeane Garofalo immediately!

65. Bre | 04.18.09

Ms. G. is uninformed, under-educated and misguided. Her bio said she studied history. Perhaps she should have paid better attention. She can’t argue the issues of overspending, so she must throw out the race card.

What she and the far-left doesn’t understand is that in addition to the 300+ thousand people who attended the tea parties, there were double that number who, for one reason or another, were unable to attend. Mostly because they all have JOBS!

It’s a shame really that race still plays a factor with all the far-left “haters”. Ms. G. is a disgrace.

66. Maureen | 04.18.09

How dare she call people racist and rednecks who participated in these peaceful protests!!! My husband and I went and I can assure you that we are neither!!! Another example of the liberals who can’t take anyone disagreeing with them. We are so offended by her IGNORANT comments that we will not be watching 24 next season if she is still on!!!!! She and Oberman…what a pair!!

67. Madness | 04.18.09

This is just ridiculous, I am a conservative, not a republican. Americans in general are fed up with the Federal government, with the whole Tax and spend. I hated Bush and cant stand Obama. 90% of the people were against bailing out the banks did Bush and Congress listen NO. The Stimulus bill Obama wanted no one even read but voted and passed it. This isnt about race, this is about what is right and what is wrong. So it doesnt matter whether your a D,R or an I, what matters is making sure we dont have to pay for every other business’s mistakes, or bailing out other Americans that got their selves in bad loans. This woman called everyone that joined a tea party a racist, but yet she used the term ******* which could also be a racist term so who is the racist.

68. Eric | 04.18.09

I admit I lean to the left and I disagree with Garafolo, I like Olbermann’s show I didn’t see the show on Thursday night but after reading the story I was blown away. I don’t consider Olbermann to be the greatest news source if I see something on his show that is interesting I’ll go and look it up online because I think all news media is lacking because the focus of Fox, CNN, and MSNBC is all on ratings and advertising money that they can bring in not on actually informing people.

However, I don’t think that the comments about the left being worse than the right are valid; I don’t recall a blue state ever making any statements from any elected officials from seceding from the union like Texas is now. I don’t really believe Texas will secede but the mere notion of it because they don’t like what is going on in DC is messed up. Also, where were these people complaining about the national debt when Bush financed two wars on credit? Why weren’t those of you who went to the tea parties being the fiscal conservatives you know want Bush to repeal the tax cuts to pay for the wars? I’m not going to argue about the merit of the wars but rather the way they are being paid for. Isn’t fiscal conservatism about spending within your means and generating more revenue when needed? Why didn’t those of you want more tax dollars brought in for our troops?

69. Vila | 04.18.09

First some of you really must learn to spell, it’s jeanine, not janeane. Do you make the same ruckus over Ann Coulter? Let’s be clear, we all put down what we don’t agree with, yet, this does not make the speakers view any less valid.

70. Kathy Wilson | 04.18.09

We all have our opinions - conservative & liberal. But let’s tell the truth. Did Garafalo & Olberman and all the other left-wing media even LISTEN to what the people at the Tea Parties were saying? Did they take the time to LISTEN to what the message was? Let’s be honest. They didn’t. ANYTIME you disagree with what this president & congress are doing, you are labeled a Racist… that somehow it has to be about hating a black president. Are you kidding? QUIT BEING DISHONEST AND OPEN YOUR EARS AND REPORT THE TRUTH. The truth is that those of us at those tea parties DO NOT LIKE

71. Marko | 04.18.09

They’re right. I didn’t see a singe Black person at these protests.

72. NickthePick | 04.18.09

BOYCOTT 24 where she has a role.Let Hollywood elite know there is a price to be paid by spreading lies. The TEA Party I attended was full of young well behaved citizens and ordinary working class people concerned about the direction our government is going.
I will not comment on the inaccuracy and falsehoods from her for she is a smoke screen to take our eyes off the prize which is to save our country from far left wing radical policy.Yes,the Bush Administration is much to blame for the current state of affairs, but spending money like a drunken sailor in a ***** house is not the answer.

Someone needs to tell Ms. Garofalo Martin Sheen was not really the President.
Too much time spent on this wacked out, drug using liberal. She will pay for her offensive behavior and go to the way side like Ted Danson and Rosie O’Donnell.

73. Patrick | 04.18.09

I was surprised about this. I believe she is ignorant. I believe she does not even believe in her words since she is mumbling. I am a man who was raised by a family about treating a man based upon the actions and values of a man. I do not oppose the policies of our president because of his color. I oppose the specific policies of our president that is creating programs and supporting legislation for a “dependednt citizenry” and welfare state. I believe these programs and legislation is going to a scale and scope beyond the principles within our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. All men have inherited rights as US Citizens, but each person should determine how to live their lives. Yes, government should be able to assist in specific areas for their citizens. However, specific policies of our president is wrong. What is more upsetting is that our country and some citizens are becoming complacent and believe what is the easy right is best for our country. We have forgotten our responsibilities with our inherited rights and looking and depeding on our government to solve any problem. What made our country great is that the responsiblity and success of a citizen was done by the individual with the support of immediate family, immediate social and religious institutions, and then government-local, state, and federal. I believe comments by Ms. Garofalo is wrong and insulting. I was there at the Tea Party in Manhattan, Kansas because of my stated views in this blog. I am not a racist, but I do not agree with the policies of our president and most of democratic party. So I expressed myself as a citizen with inherited rights and not inherited means to live my life.

74. jarbee | 04.18.09

If Republicans had substantive arguments to discuss rather than middle school taunts to hurl, it would be a lot easier to assume their problem is something other than race. Debating the tax code is always worthwhile, but there does seem to be another kind of anger lurking amongst those baby boom white men and their moms that turned out for the teabagging.

75. ’saffy197 | 04.18.09

Why is it that when Conversatives say something somewhat negative it gets blasted by the Liberals; but when Liberals say something negative about Conservatives (or in the case of Tea-Party) the media pretends it didn’t happen or they get ill-informed, uneducated comments from someone like Garafolo. This is what I have to say to Ms. Garofolo and like-minded thinkers?

Dear Ms. Garofolo (and Sean Penn)

If you hate our country and what it stands for (like the Constitution) cuddle up to Chavez, Castro, but remember - you don’t have the freedom to express yourself like you do here. So when you want to blast the government - oh you won’t be able to..

If you hate our health care system so much - don’t get treated here - go wait for a couple of months in the UK or Canada…

That new Prius you might want - in Cuba it might take you 10 years to get it - you have to apply to the government to get one…

So Ms. Garafolo and Mr. Penn and you others who hate America so much - LEAVE!

76. Bryan | 04.18.09

Has MSNBC sunk to a new low….. Can they get any lower??

77. John | 04.18.09

Free speech…what a concept…why is it that every pig like this DEMANDS the right to speak freely until they disagree with what someone else says. Did I see a note that she is an actress and a comic. She acted in WHAT that is memorable? And as far as funny….please. She is neither an actress or a comic. She’s just a BIGOT with a microphone (look at the pic). Hey Jesse, Al and Louis want a really angry woman on your team, the four of you could spend the whole day hating and living off money you didn’t earn and Oberman could smile, nod and tell you how tolerant you are.

78. Gerard | 04.18.09

Janeane *is* the spoiled daughter of an oil executive. Her contempt for average Americans may just be a product of her privileged upbringing.

79. Liz Van Valin | 04.18.09

The “TEA” parties were an opportunity for anyone to “speak” freely as guaranteed by our First Amendment rights under the US Constitution. That is why we participated. This right is not limited by party affiliation. The participants we saw among the 5000-strong in Phoenix were pleasant, thoughtful, respectful and educated; they were not arrogant, elitist nor closed-minded. They were represented by many races, genders, and ages. The participants were common-folk, not ******* — they care trendously what happens to our country — they take responsiblity for their behaviors, don’t make excuses, and don’t feel represented by their government. They have every right to speak. It is a sad commentary when some don’t feel “safe” speaking their thoughts in public.

It is tragic that no matter how much money our schools receive that children are not being taught our history, our Constitutional rights and responsiblities or our freedom from tyranny including a spend-thrift government legislative body.
Sincerely

Liz VV

From one Jeannine to the idiot (Janeane Garofalo) regarding her statement about the Anti-Tax TEA Party protestors… take a lesson in history yourself about the Boston Tea Party, Ms. Garofalo. But since you brought it up, here’s the details regarding The Boston Tea Party:

Boston Tea Party
“1773. In the contest between British Parliament and the American colonists before the Revolution, Parliament, when repealing the Townshend Acts, had retained the tea tax, partly as a symbol of its right to tax the colonies, partly to aid the financially embarrassed East India Company. The colonists tried to prevent the consignees from accepting taxed tea and were successful in New York and Philadelphia. At Charleston the tea was landed but was held in government warehouses. At Boston, three tea ships arrived and remained unloaded but Gov. Thomas Hutchinson refused to let the ships leave without first paying the duties. A group of indignant colonists, led by Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and others, disguised themselves as Native Americans, boarded the ships on the night of Dec. 16, 1773, and threw the tea into the harbor. In reply Parliament passed the Boston Port Bill (see Intolerable Acts).”
See study by B. W. Labaree (1964).

Now that we’ve ALL had our history lesson, just what is it that you don’t get about the event on Wednesday - April 15, 2009? I am NOT a racist. I am NOT a Republican or Democrat, but an independent voter looking for the right person to run this country. I am NOT a white supremist! I am a 52-year-old Caucasian woman who’s been unemployed since August 2008 — having a very difficult time finding another job (of any kind) and struggling to make it through another day. You are no more an expert on history than you are on making a decent, meaningful acting career for yorself. I’ve seen your work and quite frankly, it stinks! But, still Hollywood lets you continue to “work”, unlike some of us other not-so-fortunate individuals. How do you get away with this? Why do you get to keep your job when you suck so badly at it? Oh well, I guess life’s really not fair.

81. Megan46 | 04.18.09

Ms. Garofalo is right!
It just an excerise in a very thinly disguise angry white people who still can’t get over that a black man is in the white house.
Tea party indeed!

82. pwner | 04.18.09

Hey Sam. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, Bush isn’t an elected official anywhere. Why would anyone be protesting him?

83. Logical thinker | 04.18.09

Jeanine has proved once again how small her mind is. Has she done anything relevant in the last five years?? I love how mad these liberals are about fox. Very smart of them to promote and cover the tea parties. Their ratings were proof of that. Isn’t CNN new tageline “no bull, no bias”. It resonates through the whole network. What a joke.

84. Karen | 04.18.09

This woman is an angry, ugly, left wing liberal…She has made a fool of herself with her harsh words. Her words are a reflection of who she really is…A complete moron IMO.

85. Robin | 04.18.09

I am not a perfect person by any means, but a good friend once offered me the best advice: “The best revenge,” he said, “is to live a good life.” And in doing so, I’ll choose a path opposite that of Janeane Garofalo’s.

86. gregr | 04.18.09

Let’see, Garafolo was an unemployed actress when asked to be on the show “24″ on the FOX network. Now she calls their listeners racists. How long before she is unemployed again? The tea parties were attended by a huge cross section of the American public. The misconception is that the tea parties were about the here and now, the reality is that the concern is about how things happening now are going to affect the future. I would call that forward thinking and responsible not racist.

87. Kim | 04.18.09

What an idiot! That’s what these Hollywood types all scream if they are unwilling to listen to anothers view “Racism”. Where were these anti-Obama black-man rallies at that she attended? Oh brother, put a sock in it honey!!!!

Maybe all the people that went to the TEA Parties should sue this worman for defimation of character and racist remarks!!! She certainly slandered white people! Class Action law suite perhaps.

88. Richard | 04.18.09

Who is Jeaneane Garofalo? I’ve never heard of her!

89. Sumitra | 04.18.09

Hate speech to categorize the apparent opposition. Classy woman you are JG… Not!
We attended a Tea Party to denounce the multiple bailouts of the many wreckless businesses and individuals. They made investments, those investments tanked; perhaps they need to file for bankruptcy. That is the way risk works. Why are we rewarding their failures?
Perhaps you JG are set for life, but many of us have to work for a living. Most of us can not afford the trillions and trillions being given away, to everyone except those who had avoided such risky investments. I have no job since a layoff last year, and no unemployment benefits. Nothing about the bailouts is coming my way. So I receive no benefits, yet I will be paying income taxes again when I finally find another job, thus having made benefits in dollars available to everyone else. We have every right, and even an obligation to protest the handouts which will only be recouped by later taxes that we will be paying. That is what the Tea Party was about.
Your attitute stinks, and to avoid stooping to your level, I can suggest only that your hate speech is unwelcome and uncharacteristic of me and my partner who attended a local Tea Party to protest the appeasement of the avarice of so many with their hands extended, as enacted by our so-called representation in Congress.

90. quixote | 04.18.09

Do these people have any answers other than small government?
Yet the right will never give up on the humongous military and the feeling of power they get because the US spends a lot to maintain its superpower status. For the 500-600 Billion we could go around paying people to play nice, instead of strutting around and causing all this resentment and hate.

Not paying for the spending all along is exactly how we wound up with 10 trillion deficit, out of which there is no way out.
Even if you conceptually are for small government, Would this be the time to say cut teachers, and social workers and other public programs and put even more people out of work?
Obama has been there since January 20th, why no protests until now?
Carrying a 10 trillion debt means we have to continue the charade of ever increasing growth in GDP, even as people become actually poorer, so we can pretend that the debt is only 1 xtimes GDP. If the GDP shrinks, which is what would have happened with a complete collapse, then the US govt would have to default on its debt.

91. PulSamsara | 04.18.09

Tea Partys were NOT just for red-necks !

They were also for inbreds, half-wits, people who fell out of shopping carts on their head as babies, and those whos family tree resembles a telephone pole.

They are much more inclusive than you dang uppity liberal hollywood types would lead us to believe… shame on you - I’m gonna say a prayer for you all tonight - right after the Klan meeting.

92. I Do Not Get It | 04.19.09

What is this tea-bagging thing about as a verb? Only liberal art graduates seem to have any experiance with it. Just asking, I was a science major.

93. Fred Bishop | 04.19.09

If there was a battle I’d want the red necks on my side.

94. Woody Porter | 04.19.09

I have read the article — and viewed the video — with interest…

…and I have read the responses with alarm. Of the (…as I write) 58 responses, I’ve found (…as a max) 3 or 4 that sound like reasonable people talking.

Let me make my position clear. People like Janeane Garofalo, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Moore, Sean Hannity, Keith Olberman, etc. are not, ultimately, serious people — they are are entertainers. They make money (…sometimes a lot of money) by being provocative. They announce & pronounce “truths” to people who are willing to buy into their palaver — and who, ’cause of that, are willing pay for their movies, or willing to listen to the ads of the companies sponsoring them.

What these folks are involved in can be put very simply —

…”show-biz.”

Unawareness of this rock-solid fact can have a sad result…a public with “show-biz” minds. Mr Olberman questions the viability of Fox News, Mr. Kelly blasts back with the latest Nielson ratings — we’re treated to dueling material from ‘Daily Variety’ columnists. Ms. Garofalo is put down as a “B-list” or “D-List” personality — if she were “A-list,” would her comments be any less bothersome? if she were “F-minus-list,” is she not entitled to say what she thinks?

I’m sorry — just about every comment I’ve read so far (up to ca 57) displays a kind a ginned-up, hammy, show-biz outrage. Not everybody who disagrees with us is is a moron. And not every (deliberately) provocative statement from an entertainer — left, right or center — merits a full-press drama-queen response.

95. S.H. | 04.19.09

I think “tax tea parties” are a great idea. The tax systems has been a complicated problem for far too long. But when I saw our local TV coverage of the event in our state, it was full of “rednecks” and those who hated Obama. She’s right.

96. Patrick | 04.19.09

Careful Janeane ,you don’t want to lay it on so thick. If you’re going to establish bonafides with the leftists you been assigned to infiltrate -a little less “Tanya” will go a long way.Just ask Gloria Steinham (another “Company” Babe)

97. Kellie Conner | 04.19.09

To Stan Winston:

She can be a liberal and be proud of it….that’s her prerogative, but that does NOT give her the right to spew personal attacks at people she knows absolutely NOTHING about! I am not a racist, nor am I a redneck…and I don’t appreciate being called those names by anyone, especially just because I don’t agree with her political views. What ever happened to just having an open, honest political debate in this country? Why must the liberals ALWAYS resort to these vicious attacks? Is it because they know deep down that WE are right and they can’t think of any intelligent counter arguments? Honestly! How about “judge not, lest ye be judged”…???

And as for your other question about why there were no anti-Bush signs at these rallies….Well, that MIGHT be because BUSH is no longer the President. Excuse me for doing so, but I’m going to lower myself to the liberal level for just a moment here and simply say, “DUH!”

98. Ben | 04.19.09

“Since when has it been part of America patriotism, to keep our mouth shut and not raise questions about what are government is doing? That has always been the tradition, of America.” Hillary Rodham Clinton 2006 at a UAW speech

“I have a different view of what was done yesterday. I saw people who believe in the Greatness of America, I saw Democrats and Republicans pull together with a common goal. I saw people whose love for this Nation should not be ignored. I was witnessing History.” –Grandpa fighting for the future of his grandkids

99. Bill In Dallas | 04.19.09

It is turly a shame that brave men and women have given their lives so she can open her mouth and spew out this stuff. I do love me some 24, but have to clean the screen each Monday from spitting at this “thing”.

100. frank.g | 04.19.09

never watch 24 as long as this pinhead is on(garafolo)

101. venicementor | 04.20.09

Ugly is as ugly does! Ms. Garofalo is a perfect example of an individual who is ugly on the inside and shows it on the outside. She doesn’t have an ounce of grace and this has been apparent for a long time. What a miserable person she must be. She has to live with who she is and remember every moment of it when she dies.

102. mai | 04.20.09

For those on the right who resent the racism tag whenever they criticize Obama, I would like to remind them of the moniker they gave liberals who critized Bush: “unpatriotic”.

It’s always a shame when thoughtful discourse is stiffled because of mindless stereotypes.

103. Pat McDermott | 04.20.09

Garofalo is lazy. Instead of refuting the points that the Tea Party participants were trying to make she immediately dismissed them all as racist, even though there was not one racist sign in the crowd or one interview in which anyone even mentioned the President’s race. This is a childish tactic used over and over again by liberals. They immediately start calling their opponents the most horrific names they can imagine in an attempt to blind their listeners to the fact that they are either dead wrong, or that they don’t have enough knowledge of the points in question to even attempt to refute them. We don’t always get the bonus of a new medical theory like her Limbic Lobe Theory. That would be creative, if she were an eighth grader…

Maybe a few more tea parties will make people like her realize they actually need to pay attention to what is going on in the world instead of just buying their party line and running their mouth like a bratty kid.

104. Jamie | 04.20.09

Racism? LOL I doubt it.

True, most of the people I saw interviewed on Fox didn’t know much about anything–they claimed, for instance, that taxation is ‘facist’–but it was clearly more about right-wing economic ideology than racism.

But as to the question of whether FOX News could maintain high ratings if it alienated ten percent of the population, there I had to chuckle. It alienates at least half of the population now, and look at its ratings!

105. Dave | 04.20.09

Garofalo is as much of a blowhard as O’Reilly. However, I too have thought that the tea parties were about something other than taxes, considering tax rates haven’t gone up yet, and most people are actually seeing a bit more in their paychecks.

Where has the outrage been as the cost of two unwinnable, destructive wars has risen to nearly $860 billion dollars? The Obama stimulus plan comes in somewhere over $900 billion. We probably wouldn’t need to borrow nearly that amount from the Chinese if we weren’t hemorrhaging what we are in Iraq and Afghanistan.

106. Roger | 04.20.09

Maybe Janeane Garofalo went overboard, but I think there is an iota of truth in what she said. There were many racial slurs (directly and indirectly) made at some of these rallies. I also think that the tea parties were simply against Obama (and perhaps some of his policies), but not against his tax policy because he’s reduced taxes for 95% of the country. You’ve got to wonder what tax policy of Obama’s they are attacking. Is there an article in the CSM that is pro-Obama and critical of the tea-bagging? I doubt it.

107. Liberals are Right | 04.20.09

Janeane Garofalo is not only beautiful, she is brilliant!

More importantly, her moral and intellectual compass is very well tuned.

She was right that Iraq was the wrong war to fight. She was right that the Bush Administration was ruining the country (by maliciousness and/or ineptitude). She was right that the Right is wrong.

I wouldn’t call all of the tea party protesters “rednecks,” but I would question their knowledge of american history, their understanding of economic mechanisms, and their benevolence as citizens of the American community.

108. Jeff | 04.20.09

Everybody needs to breathe slowly and relax. All this article tells us is what Garafolo’ opinion on the matter is and anyone who has seen her stand up or seen her politicking on news stations would not be surprised at all by her comments. She is far left and that has never been denied and her comparison to Rush I think is perfect. They are both extremes of each side with an uncompromising view and horrible and over-generalized contempt of their opponents. Both of them feel empowered by their fringe minorities of like minded extremists and are historically irrelevant even though they think they are representative of most Americans. Most Americans are moderate-left and moderate-right and are willing to compromise with the “enemy”. We moderates can look at issues from others’ perspectives and find a common ground. We understand that either side is not the sole solution to all of our problems and welcome dissenting views. But compromise, decency, and moderation doesn’t sell papers; controversy, anger, and cheap shots do. And you can see it on both sides of the aisle in these responses. The inflammatory back and forth is exactly what publishers want to see, regardless of topic, because each person going to this punching bag festival is earning them advertising money. I feel we are letting drivel like this and Rush polarize us and we are loosing our ability to compromise by demonizing the opposition. Bloggers here tear into G because she was attacking the Tea Party’s right of free speech without recognizing her right to free speech as well. Bloggers here ream G for over generalizing the Tea-Baggers but then follow up and over generalize all liberals as being like-minded with her. And boycotting a TV show because of this partisan opinion, which was not sanctioned or related to the TV show at all, is over-reactive and petty; but, ultimately anyone has the right and power of boycott to get their point across, but we should pick our battles. I have seen and enjoyed many movies or TV shows whose stars have differing opinions than me because enjoying their work by no means translates into condoning their personal opinion. Watching a Travolta flick doesn’t mean I am a Scientologist or that I agree with Scientology, it just means I think Travolta is a good actor. The race card here is completely unjustified but we must realize that both extremes use inflammatory rhetoric to divide us, just switch “unpatriotic”, “socialist”, “elitist”, “xenophobe”, “imperialistic war monger”, and “Corporate Puppet” for “racist” and you have the history of derogatory terms both sides have been using against each other for decades. The success of Democratic Governance is dependant on compromise, and compromise is dependent on the ability to see each other’s perspectives. Without perspective we cannot compromise and we whittle away the strength of our governance. The inability to agree or compromise starts wars and the only way to end them is through agreement and compromise. This isn’t an “us/them” competition, we are all Americans and we need to work together.

109. Captain Spaulding | 04.20.09

I am neither left nor right wing and I do not subscribe to any one party’s set of beliefs; having said that, I think that Miss. Garofalo is ignorant and lazy. You cannot play the race card every time someone disagrees with President Obama. When you do that, you are in fact being the racist, and you are creating division and hate where there doesn’t need to be any.

110. Simpleton | 04.20.09

Huh?

Garfolo calling tea-partyers racists is even more despicable than the tea partyers claiming it was not a support group for people who did not vote for Obama.

Look, Obama did not raise taxes, the taxes are the same as they were under W.
The bailout scheme started under W, and has only continued under Obama.

So claiming that tea-partyers were angry about Obama’s taxation are simply disingenuous.

Where were the tea-partyers when W and the Republicans ran up the debt?

111. Roadface | 04.20.09

Who is Janeane Garofolo? Is she somebody famous? Why should her opinion be so sought after?

112. Eric | 04.20.09

Spending billion upon billions to kill people is ok but not to help our own country. Great family values. During the last administration if you said anythng bad about the prez, you were unpatriotic, how is that any different than todays ‘racists’? Cons are so concerned that they won’t get every cent of thier ‘hard earned’ money - from pushing thier pencils while playing with other peoples money - they are having tea parties, how quaint. Are they not being represented? I certainly wasn’t during the last administration, I didn’t vote for a war that can’t be won, oops, victory was declared, I guess we really did win… I think the consevatives should send thier kids and thier money over there since it’s so improtant to them. I will work to keep mine in this country to help people here who need it. It may be unpatriotic, but it seems like the right thing to do. ( or is it the left thing to do…)
Don’t forget to get an illegal immigrant to cut the crusts off your sandwiches at your tea parties, god knows you wouldn’t want to pay an american a real wage to do such a thing.

113. Robert | 04.20.09

Number of billions per month spent by George Bush in Iraq: $10
Number of dead US military to date in Iraq: over 4,200
Number of conservatives who protested above spending or war: ZERO

Knowing conservatives are hypocrites and frauds: Priceless.

114. Tatterdemalian | 04.20.09

Garafolo in 1993: “Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.”

Garafolo in 2009: “Dissent is racism.”

What a difference a change of administration makes, huh? And to think some people claim there are no real differences between democrats and republicans…

115. Shane | 04.20.09

The beauty of the current tea party movement is that it depicts magnificently just exactly how much these people hate this country and representative government. I believe, if I recall my grade school lessons correctly, that in America we hold elections on a pretty regular basis. If your party or candidate lose the election then you can try again in a few years.

The tea party movement is really just about losing. The Republicans lost the election and now feel that this justifies a lack of cooperation with the American government. The Tea Party idiots and their response has basically been, “I’m taking my ball and going home.” Babies and poor losers.

It’s not about taxes. Under the previous president, taxes were grotesque, taxes collected were routinely ‘misappropriated,’ stolen, or poorly spent. Taxes collected were also utilized on a war that THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS did not support. Taxes collected were utilized to support secret prisons and torture. Taxes collected were utilized to line the pockets of Wall Street. As a tree-hugging hippy (and veteran) I never once thought of ignoring my taxes out of protest over Bush policy. I did think, “Just a few more years and our country will have another chance. It’s our way.”

If your party lost, then there is always the next election. That’s the American way. If you can’t wait for the next election, then you obviously don’t support the American system of government. If you don’t support the American system of government, then you’re a pretty poor excuse for a patriot.

As so many right-wingers like to say, “America, love it or leave it.”

116. pblknm | 04.20.09

people who attended TEA PARTIES hate black people…… hmmmm,

“a mind, is a terrible thing to waste”

ms. garofalo has most definitely wasted hers.

god bless america, and keep the protests against this current resident of the white house going.
as a 20year army retired serviceman, hey janeane, guess what? i am also a black man 55 years old.
thank god both my parents raised allll of us not to give a damn about the color of ones skin.
just his or her character.

117. Ron | 04.20.09

I am in the center. In other words on one hand I can understand the need to spend money (on the economy) in order to get it chugging again. And on the other hand, I understand the conservative side that says we can’t keep borrowing like this. (Our debt is currently $11 TRILLION — that’s 11 thousand billion - think about that…)

Regarding Garofalo, she’s a little too biting for me. I thought she was funny when I was in college, though.

Signing off, although I wasn’t at one of the tea parties - and don’t quite see myself going in the future - I nonetheless respect the people who went tremendously. They are standing up for the Constitution and want a simpler government - what is wrong with that?

118. Terry Noble | 04.20.09

Well, I see we have another example of an actress/actor that is looking out of their navel because they have their head up their a**! It’s fine if she has her own personal opinion she is entitled to it. HOWEVER, since she is a public figure (actress)she does NOT have the right to use her public identity to abuse anyone else. I would call what she did very selfserving (mainly make a splash in the media good or bad in the thought that their is not such thing as bad publicity)! I really will be looking for 24 to kill her character off in some horrible fashion soon…..it’s very clear in her on-screen character’s attitude that her off screen attitude cannot be hidden. We do not need anyone like her to make things WORSE. Come on 24, do the right thing for all of us!!!

119. Hootin | 04.20.09

#115 Shane said it all!

120. Joey D | 04.20.09

I honestly don’t care what color my president is. I am not a redneck. Though I didn’t go to a tea party, I abhor government spending and especially taxes. I find Janeane’s comments insulting. Bush racked up debt just as much as Obama will. I don’t like either.

Her comments drip with the same prejudice that she thinks she is against.

121. Jane | 04.20.09

Garofalo = Ahmadinejad.

122. Watusa1773 | 04.20.09

Unbelievable. First, Al Sharpton calling the Pirates “the volunteer Somali Coast guard” and then this. I do know that you can Google lots of ACTUAL studies that associate drug use with odd thought patterns and lower verbal control. Solipsistic Garofolo. Look, Britain didn’t do well with 68% taxes, that’s why they are undoing it. Even EU taxation is excessive. But let’s give her what she wants, Sharia law and a Marxist state. In fact, I’ll be happy to let her use her BIG mouth to try and get the young lady out of the jail in Iran. Who gave her airtime? I’d rather listen to Rosie O’Donnell. If she’s straight, I’d hate to be her emasculated excuse for a boyfriend. Liberals, it’s like this: If you make it better for people to be on welfare, more people will be, then the fewer people working to pay taxes for thsoe people will be less productive and look for other ways to hide their money elsewhere, and then the whole economy and GDP slows down. Taxes are like a parachute behind a drag race car. Get it? Too NASCAR for you? Sigh. There were 22,000 people at the Tea Party here. Where’d she find one with only 20 people? Marin County, San Francisco? Who represents conservative and independent people? If she’s lumping us together, then should we have something racist like LULAC, the NAACP or LA RAZA (The Race) to sue her for us? I call that hate speech. So much for being a Constitutionalist. The Founding Fathers, who believed in hard work (much like the male Pilgrims that she dresses like) would have her in the stock for heresy. And under Sharia law, surely let’s say, Sadaam’s son Qusay, would have locked her in a coffin full of nails and closed it for refusing to make love to him. So much better. Hey liberals! Who cares abotu WMD? Sadaam killed 20,000 KURDS. If genocide isn’t a good reason to invade a country, what is? Certainly your ideal, the UN, hasn’t the balls to do anything about ANYTHING. So the US took care of it. Obama: Stop apologizing. I hope your daughters enlist. Then you’ll get it. Barfalo: stop smoking weed and eating so much Ben & Jerry’s. It shows.

123. swizzle | 04.21.09

Check out the photos of the tea parties, you’ll see 99% of those involved are white. The last 1% is someone just passing through. You can claim it’s not about race but when everysingle protest consists of nothing but whites, your argument against it goes out the window.

124. Rufus T Firefly | 04.21.09

To Vila:

Actually if you read the headline of this article, or are familiar with Janeane Garofalo, you will see that Ms Garofalo spells her name Janeane, not Jeanine. Also, if I were attempting to correct someone’s spelling, I’d make sure I at least knew how and when to capitalize.

<>

Ann Coulter is articulate, educated, and, unlike Ms Garofalo as of late, funny! Ms Coulter also bathes on a regular basis; something that can’t be said for Ms Garofalo.

125. Brian Lang | 04.21.09

Janeane always try’s to come off as more intelligent and knowledgeable than the average Jane / Joe. Anyone can be well-read Janeane, but you truly showed your complete lack of true intellect by revealing that you are exactly the person that you publicly loath.

Kudos baby!

126. Sophia | 04.21.09

Janeane rocks. The rest of you that have a problem with her are obviously very sad excuses for Americans. You are the ones that backed George Bush who has brought this country to its knees and lost all sense of integrity that we once had. You take for granted that this is the greatest country in the world and let your “conservatism” ruin it. What does “conservatism” really mean? It seems to mean that you allow waterboarding. Seems it means large corporations should run the government like it’s their own personal playground. Now that Obama has been VOTED into the White House, you fringe zealots are sore losers.

127. Susan Hopkins | 04.21.09

We wouldn’t be in such a financial mess if the previous administration hadn’t poured trillions of dollars into military spending.

Billions to help our own people = BAD

129. Ernie Dykes | 04.21.09

I read some of the comments and see that half of the people do not understand what this country was founded on. We all have the right to say what we want about anyone and I will always defend their right to say it. However when you do not agree with what is being said and start calling people names and saying that they are un-American then I think that you are not sure you believe in what you are saying and get mad. When we start believing people because they are famous or they think that they are right then we have lost the freedom of thought and need to say nothing.

130. PIM | 04.21.09

and while all ,are worried about the scum who attack the protesters……. The gov’t is doing dirty dealings… and socialism is moving in… Anybody who would speak of citizens in such a manner, for their protesting the destruction of what this country has been… then I hope they are the first terrorist to be tried when all is said and done… anybody who thinks this is ok behavior is nuts, period….. You don’t like this country , move…. Air service to any place in the world can be found for you..

131. Rodney | 04.21.09

Again, those on the Liberal Left just don’t get it and still try to lay all of this on the past administration. Yea, Bush started it, but what you who are blinded by your leftist views can’t see(or don’t want to see)is that it is continuing with Obama. In his first 100 days, he has spent as much as Bush did in 8 years. It all started when someone thought it would be a good idea to bail out failing banks and Obama continues that trend now.
The tea parties were not about protesting Obama, but the government as a whole. Republicans, demarcates, left, right, it don’t freaking matter, it’s all of them who are driving this country into the ground and just because a large bunch of us decided to try to do something about it, we get called the racists, and told we are wrong.
When Obama takes us into socialism and you have to share everything you have worked for with those who don’t want to work, then we will see who is crying all the tears.
He (the government) is taxing those of us who work and rewarding those who don’t want to work. Am I the only one who sees this as wrong?

132. Drow Ranger | 04.21.09

Janine Garofalo is a total scrub. She has no clue what she is talking about. How ironic that she goes on about limbic brain assertions (false) and how people won’t see the truth if they are exposed to it…when she’s the same way.

How’s that grape koolaid, Janine?

133. Thomas | 04.21.09

It is absolutely amazing… that so many Pro-Obama supporters immediately bring up the fact that he is a black man when someone mentions or speaks out against any of President Obama’s beliefs or policy changes he is attempting to make.

Disagreement with the changes he is making or attempting to make has nothing to do with the shade of his skin. It has to do with Americans finding these changes scary. To many of his beliefs and changes he is trying to make continue to challenge the long standing freedom that America was founded on.

I for one do not believe we should give up our freedom or ability to have choices based on the Government becoming so “Big” that they can’t all be fired, and replaced. But I also believe that everyone has the right to their opinion - so those who believe he is making the right moves, and choices, I respect, and would again fight, should that freedom of you having a choice ever become threatened, to make sure you have the right to disagree with me.

However, if it is alright for the President of the United States to dismiss or fire top executives within the private sector - as part of an agreement for those private sector businesses to accept money from “a government bailout” - then let’s not forget their dismissal was due to a lack of performance - and the President should also be able to be dismissed as quickly for the same lack of performance with the handling of funds and policies of our country. After all - it is our tax dollars that is paying his salary, and as part of our “citizens bail-out plan” - we get to make that decision for you as well, Mr. President, Senate, Congress, Governor, Mayor, and every other elected official in this country.

Little ms G is an intolerant person. It seems that Democrats and Liberals are doing their level best to apologize and defend Obama, even when he is wrong. Does she have a degree in history? American? Then she will know that anyone against Obama is not a racist. Barry Obama just is too well defended by the liberal establishment. There is a larger force at work here by others than just hateful liberals. Is the Gore-Soros-Old Europe cabal at work here?
The mainstream media will not show our Pres. even smoking a cigarette. What is up?

136. stressfreeliving | 04.21.09

Looks like Jimmy Orr did not research too much about the Tea Party movement. Rick Santelli did not give birth to the movement. This movement was created several years ago by groups on the “left” and the “right”. The 9/11 truth movement advanced the movement forward and then was picked up by Ron Paul supporters and smaller government groups.

This includes, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and others. In case you haven’t seen these people, they are all white people. You are without a clue. I just had a thought, she’s an actress right? Do you think all these actors & actresses are paid to come out and say this stuff to bend the minds of young people and anger the rest of us? I’m convinced they’re trying to get us to revolt so they can round us all up & put us in fema camps. I never meet anyone who believes all this garbage except for maybe teenagers and potheads.

Who likes the idea of socialism? This may be a New World Order coup because the only way they can deal with middle Christian America(any color) is to falsely accuse them of something then lock them up for it. I’m getting paranoid but not without cause. I can’t help but think these people are being paid to promote this garbage. Perhaps it’s just difficult for me to believe someone can be so demented as to paint all average Americans with the broad brush of racism. It’s unfair. I think they want us to hate each other and it’s like they’ve been trying real hard to make us fight each other. I can’t help but think they’re trying to start race wars deliberately. Well you know what? I’m not a racist. She can accuse me of being one all she wants to but I know myself and I’m not a racist. I have no problem with people of any race, but I do have a problem with communists and socialists & that’s what this is really all about. She’s probably standing in line behind Obama to cow-tow to Chavez’s ,Castro & every other evil world dictator.

I live in rural Oklahoma. During the campaign, emails circulated by locals, including a small town mayor and another little town’s city manager, were of the Obama is a Christian/Muslim (don’t ask me what that is–I don’t write this stuff) terrorist socialist facist and not an American citizen. Post election, the same emailers went straight to the point and began circulating racist jokes targeting the new president. Since then, the jokes have tended toward the promotion of violence against Pres. Obama.

Oh, and the only news the people around here ever watch is Fox. But you knew that, didn’t you?

145. Bagger V | 04.22.09

After all its not our fault, our misfiring synapses made us do it…

This is a very good point. I liked her in Mystery Men (yeah, I’m probably the only one who likes that movie!) and in Seinfeld and her voice acting in movies like Ratatoullie (sp) continues to be very good.

What makes someone who has profited so much from the free market system hate capitalism so vociferiously? So much so that despise anyone who speaks out against the looming socialist state!

154. mrcouchp32 | 04.22.09

The irony of these tea parties, is that President Obama just passed the biggest TAX CUTS in history, and yet these protesters and ranting and raving against him, as if he raised them. The growing deficit is a legitimate concern, but it seems to me that these protesters’ anger against President Obama is misguided. Obama’s spending is being used to invest and create greater opportunities, for all Americans. George W. Bush’s wasteful spending and borrowing created the deficit, and hurt Americans, and the United States’ standing in the world. Taxes will undoubtedly have to be raised on Americans across the board, eventually to pay down this huge deficit. But if President Obama achieves his goals of restoring the economy, reforming health care, energy and education, and improving our country’s infrastructure, then I think most Americans, will be understanding of taxes having to go up. The rest, are going to cry and moan anyway.

155. Is she on heroin? | 04.22.09

Keep it up, Olbermann - you and you’re ranting guests are losing folks in your party every time you speak.

156. Robert | 04.22.09

While the Monitor is still a great source for international news, when it comes to issues like this your bias clearly shows. You have misrepresented the exchange and the basis for which she made her claims.

These are the facts:

The tea party protesters are liars. They said they are protesting high income taxes. In fact 95% of them are paying lower taxes than they did under the Bush regime. If they were honest they would’ve protested their higher taxes during the Bush regime.

The tea party protesters claimed they were protesting wasteful government spending. However, they never once organized a protest as George Bush ran up the federal debt, and tripled the annual deficit. So, they lied about their motives again.

The dishonesty of the tea party protesters is the context in which Ms Garafolo made her statements. They couldn’t come out and say, “we are protesting Obama simply because we don’t like him.” If they told the truth, that this had nothing to do with higher taxes (because 95% are paying lower taxes), then perhaps their exhibition would not have appeared like racially based hatred against Obama. But the protesters were liars. The fact that they waited until one of the largest tax cuts in history to protest higher taxes proves that.

Let’s point that out again: the tea party protesters were protesting higher taxes after one of the largest tax cuts in history!

Garafalo was right. This was really motivated by racial hatred against Obama.

Obama did what? Are you stoned or stupid?

Obama has not passed a single tax cut! He has TALKED about it, but as the saying goes, talk is cheap! He has also talked about “protecting” tax cuts for the working class. Do you know what that means? It means he will probably keep the BUSH TAX CUTS in place! (Of course, the Democrats won’t call it that!)

It took President Bush, 8 years, while prosecuting a war against a dangerous, stateless foe, to run up a deficit that is less than 1/2 of the deficit that Obama and Company has run up in the first 100 days in office!

I’m sure you and Ms Garofalo both have the same T-1 feed to the DNC propaganda mill. I’ll bet you both have the website of the American Communist Party bookmarked too!

Obama did what? Are you stoned or stupid?

Obama has not passed a single tax cut!

Stoned or stupid? Strong words from someone who hasn’t been paying attention to the news.

Obama’s Tax Cuts biggest in history:

http://www.politicususa.com/en/Obama-Tax-Cut

There were $282 billion dollars in tax cuts in the stimulus bill. Every Republican voted against the tax cuts. The Republicans were in favor of higher taxes.

161. Rob Martin | 04.23.09

I honestly think people are fed up with the bailouts and the lack of transparency in the government. I am white and my wife is black. Obama is a human being plain and simple. Red neck. No. One beleiver in God and Jesus Yes

162. HillbillyBumpkin | 04.23.09

JG tries to come across as SO cerebral.

She’s an idiot.

163. GEJ | 04.23.09

160. RfrancisR

That’s not a tax cut, pal! It is part of the so-called Stimulus Package. If it were a true tax cut it wouldn’t go to people who pay no taxes! It will be made up for in successive years.

What Obama has done here is “take from Peter to pay Paul”. Of course that will ensure that Paul will always be your friend.

Nice to know people like you and Ms Garofalo have no problem selling their souls for $7 a week (which is about what the average tax payer will get from this bogus tax cut.)

164. Jess | 04.23.09

Janine Garafalo is a ignorant person who has no clue what she is talking about…. besides when was the last time she was in a movie worth watching??? she’s a washed up actress who needs to give it up

165. de | 04.24.09

boycotting 24 and anything else garofalo.

Liberals have no point, so they always fall back on name calling.

166. GEJ | 04.24.09

I have to disagree with 165. de.

24 is a good show and I’m sure many of the cast and production staff are extremely embarassed by Garofalo’s ranting. If a boycott of 24 were sucessful and got the show cancelled it would be to provibial case of thowing the baby out with the bath water.

I think a better route would be a letter writing campaign to 24 demanding Garofalo apologize for her callous bigoted remarks.

167. Patricia | 04.24.09

I cannot watch “24″ when this person comes on the screen. Just what is she doing on the side of the good guys? They must be confused, or maybe Janice will be killed off next week.

How else can Fox get rid of her? She is ruining the show.

168. GEJ | 04.26.09

I was just wondering. Does anybody remember how quickly ESPN dumped Rush after he implied that the sport’s media was giving Donavan McNabb’s performance a pass just because he was black?

I’m sure if Janeanie Garofalo has said something like that, she would have been fired on the spot.

169. Jeff | 05.07.09

J G is just incredibly misguided. I feel sorry for her. Her visciouseness is likely over the edge of healthy adults. As I listen to her at different times, I am reminded what happens to folks who receive all their input through the glasses of their own point of view. Facts or common sense no longer matter… only how they can be twisted to support their perspective. JG’s comments on the “tea parties”, (she malisciously placed her teabagging slur)is an example. There is no substantiation of her claims, yet they are stated as obvious facts.

170. William Shumaker | 05.11.09

Ms. Garofalo is the most out of touch person I have heard in many years. She plays the ‘race card’ over the nation’s tea parties? And then has the audacity to state no one in those groups knows what the orignal tea party was about? It was about taxation without representation. With an all Democratic political power in every corner of Washington, it is taxation without representation in effect. She talked about the budget Pres. Bush left, it doesn’t hold a candle to Obama’s deficits. She seems clueless when facts are required. God bless her, but some serious reading of history and a keener idea of the daily facts would help as well. I feel sorry for her.

171. Dr. Tracy Baker | 05.12.09

Who gave any credibility to Janeane Garofalo anyway? Just because she’s an actress/comedian doesn’t make her an expert about anything. Maybe we should laugh at this troll’s rantings. Is that the intent? Just listening to her, I realize she has no conception of reality. Maybe she’s mentally ill. Yeah, yeah, that’s it! She’s a wacko nut job that helps the liberal press sell air time. Seriously, she is obviously not well grounded mentally and needs to see a psychiatrist, not be on the air waves influencing other people of her ignorant persuasion.

172. Clinton | 05.12.09

We shouldn’t be surprised at anything the liberal Hollywood crowd says. I just read a comment in which someone derided FOX News for being biased. Ha-Ha. Do you BELIEVE that? We didn’t hear the liberals whine during the election when the mainstream media attacked Sarah Palin. They didn’t just stick to her political differences; rather, they attacked her family and faith.

I don’t even think the MAFIA attacks the families of its victims, does it. I am so tired of the liberal media (namely every network, except FOX). I watch FOX religiously; and, frankly, it is the ONLY network decent Americans should watch. There wouldn’t even BE a FOX News if the mainstream media wasn’t so blatantly biased. Then, there’s the airheaded Hollywood crowd–bubbleheads like Janeane Garofalo and Julia Roberts.

Many of you might have forgotten, but Roberts implied that Republicans are “repugnant” and are “reptiles”. She is too dumb to know that there are MILLIONS of Republicans in the this country. It would be great if no Republican watches another Julia Roberts movie again. And as for Garofalo, she doesn’t know what a “redneck” is. The term was applied to people whose necks were burned by the sun as a result of working long hours in the fields.

In other words, “redneckss” are hard-working Americans. I like redneckss. If we had more redneckss in America, I wouldn’t be paying for someone else’s mortgage with my hard earned tax dollar.

Hollywood should stick to the things they know a lot about–things like alcoholism, drug abuse, divorce, and assorted other brands of depravity. Do you believe they are arrogant and dumb enough to try telling the rest of us how to live? They need to shut up and sing!

They, along with their liberal cohorts on NBC, CBS, and ABC are the reasons too many Americans have lost their sense of decency. People don’t stand for anything decent anymore. Liberals embrace ANYTHING as long as it’s new.

173. T. Walt | 05.13.09

I guess the tea party goers should have turned over cars, set them on fire, smashed out windows and hurled bottles at the police. That would have got Janeane’s attention and perhaps participation.

174. TaosRed | 05.14.09

janeane garofalo showed her ignorance again. Why is it if people are showing their outrage against a “black president” who just more than tripled, leaning more towards quadrupled the country’s deficit, who has spent more than our country has since its inception, who is looking to set up social programs that mainly support nonworking lugs, that these people protesting are “prejudice”? Hey Jeaneane I went to a tea party and you have no idea of the wide variety, the true spectrum of people that were there. It was NOT a gathering of prejudice people. If you truly believe that, you are more ignorant than I ever imagine a person could be; you insult the intelligence of down to earth Americans, middle of the road Joe’s like me. The word prejudice puts people back on their heels; it’s used by people like you to throw up a smoke screen because you don’t understand, can’t comprehend what’s going on. Bush’s fiscal discipline was bad, but Obama has QUADRUPLED IT! Wake up or just shut up!

175. Patrick | 05.14.09

What makes Janeane Garofalo’s comments controversial is that they are neither completely false nor completely true. There are both elements of racism and legitimacy to the protests.

176. Greg | 05.14.09

I’m pulling for her to be the villain on 24

177. Mike M | 05.16.09

The other networks are FOS’ best advertisement. One person said it earlier that the other shows have no content all they talk about is how bad FOX is

GO FOX GO!!!

178. Jim | 05.19.09

She needs to be taken off 24..It’s a good program and she has just about ruined it…I also think that 24 does not need to get into the global warming trend. There is enough other out there to do that.

179. Michael Palmeter | 05.20.09

The characterization of the American political milieu as “left vs. right” or “liberal vs. conservative” is simplistic at best and more often than not purely erroneous. It would be much more useful to think in terms of “effective vs. ineffective”, “compassionate vs. callous”, “progressive vs. reactive” or “informed vs. uninformed”. Americans are often (self) described as both passionate and diverse, usually in the sense that these are admirable traits, which they may be. What Americans should strive for, however, is to be more reasoned, intelligent, knowledgeable and honest. Particularly that last one (honest) and especially with themselves. There’s a lot of dishonesty out there, usually robed in self-righteousness, grandiosity and moral superiority.

180. Rick | 08.05.09

As a conservative, I respect MS Garofalo’s right to have an opinion….having said that, my opinion is she is a complete pinhead!

181. Paradigm | 08.25.09

Does anyone of consequence really care what Garofolo says or thinks? This is what happens when a Hollywood actress (or actor) wants to prove to the world that they’re not just a pretty face on a screen. It’s the same narcissism that led Tom Cruise to launch a campaign to prove to everyone that he’s the world’s leading expert on psychiatry.

Garofolo’s contention that everyone who opposes Obama does not hold any water. It’s a ridiculous simplification. How, pray tell, does she explain the fact that white conservatives were the only people who came to the defense of Justice Clarence Thomas, when the left was tearing him a new one? And, how does she account for the fact that just about all conservatives would vote for Michael Steele in a heartbeat, if he would declare his candidacy for president…or legislator for that matter?

This just goes to show that the left is desperate. Whenever they have run out of options, the always fall back on an increasingly tenuous connection to racism. Sad…yes…but I’m enjoying watching it.
