White House Press Secretary Gibbs mocks birthers

NEWSCOM
Scoffing at the conspiracists who question President Obama's citizenry, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs (not pictured) said the likelihood of the president's birth certificate being forged was so remote that "You couldn't sell this script in Hollywood...You couldn't sell that to the WB.” The WB, of course, is home to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (also a program on vampires).

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs took out after birthers at a meeting with journalists Thursday morning.

Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, birthers contend that President Obama was born in Kenya and that the birth certificate attesting to this birth in Hawaii is a forgery. Under the constitution, only those born in the US are eligible to be president.

Gibbs was asked about a new Public Policy Polling survey which showed that 41 percent of Virginia Republicans think President Obama was born abroad and 27 percent are not sure where he was born, a stunning 68 percent who doubt Obama is legally qualified to be president. Mr. Obama is headed to McLean, Virginia Thursday evening to attend a fund raiser and a rally for State Senator Creigh Deeds, the Democratic candidate to be governor of Virginia.

Gibbs responded that "if I had DNA [evidence], I am entirely sure a significant number of people would not believe it."

Hard even for vampire lovers to believe

The White House press secretary then recounted the number of events that would have been required to fake Obama’s birth in Hawaii, had he not actually been born there. Of that chain of improbable events Gibbs said, "You couldn't sell this script in Hollywood...You couldn't sell that to the WB.”

The WB is home to "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" -- also a program about a vampire.
